@Pirouette: I get this sometimes from my IBS Pregnancy has not helped of course and I get what feels like a knife stabbing it's way down my intestines. It happens in bursts but it usually ends after a few minutes and I know I'll have to use the bathroom (TMI haha).

To make you feel a bit better, I threw up today and yesterday and peed myself both times Was not expecting that until later on!

@Pirouette: I'm so sorry you had a bad day yesterday. I feel you on the bathroom relief issues. If it makes you feel better, I was sitting on the couch yesterday and kept smelling farts even though I'm pretty sure I wasn't farting. The farts are like seeping out of me!

@dcw6411: I'm wishing you all of the best luck at your appointment tomorrow! How long have you been on bed rest now? I forget - has your husband made it home yet?

AFM, I had an ultrasound today. But I have them once a week up to 12 weeks so I feel like they aren't generally exciting to anyone else but me. The baby measured fine and heart beat was good. But it took the doctor like a minute or more to find the baby on the screen. I nearly died. And I'm off full bed rest and onto modified activity - basically work and home. Its progress I suppose!

    @pregnantbee: @agold: thanks ladies.

@agold: Oh another awesome update! I think every ultrasound is really exciting, even if they are frequent. Great news that baby looks good and that you're now on modified activity. How many weeks along are you now? I think we need to find and update the due date board and the u/s board b/c I can't remember! So happy for you.

  5. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: Thanks so much for the excitement. The baby measures 9w1d. Is that how far along I am? I haven't actually been told a specific due date yet. I think its weird for me to calculate by my LMP since I did IVF.

  6. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: 9w1d is a good estimate, I guess? I have no idea how they do due dates with IVF. I guess they'd go by ovulation date/implantation?? I'm just so glad you're making progress.

  7. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: So I just found an IVF due date calculator online. I must have found that before and that's how I got my August 20th due date. Per that calculator, I should be 9w4d along. The baby is measuring 9w1d. Does that sound okay to you?

  8. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: Sounds totally ok, though I'm no expert. I keep measuring about 2-3 days "behind" based on LMP. I think I Oed a little later than 14 days. No idea about anything IVF. You could totally ask one of the IVF boards, though.

@dcw6411: oh wow, I'm so sorry you are dealing with this repeatedly! it was so horrible and I can't imagine it happening frequently. I was so wishing I wasn't at work, but at the same time, I was more worried about my long commute home! fortunately, i just had the mild cramps by then. I hope you can decrease the meds soon and that it takes away this miserable side effect!

@pregnantbee: @HLK208: thanks, i hope so too! I wouldn't wish that kind of thing on my worst enemy!

@mrschickpea: oh man, I'm sorry...that is just cruel! the things we do to grow a baby I have celiac, so i'm no stranger to stomach issues, but this was like a whole other animal, and especially since the first response is "am I losing the baby?" which doesn't exactly help matters.

@agold: what a wonderful update!! baby steps towards full activities I had twice a week appts when i was high risk in the 3rd tri last time and still thought every single one was a big important moment! and omg the gas. our poor husbands!!

Well, I've had a great day today. Not. My boss just told me that she told her boss she doesn't plan to come back after maternity leave. Apparently, he responded, "I thought that would probably be the case when you told me you were pregnant. I know you don't do anything less than 100 percent and you wouldn't want to give less than 100 percent to your family." That makes me feel great about the possibility of me taking over her job. And apparently if I do, I won't be giving 100 percent to my family. Nice.

@MrsRcCar: I'm so glad you're doing as well as can be expected after your loss. Thankful you're getting some support and pampering. I can imagine there is a sense of relief about being able to move on now after Monday. I'm still thinking of you often, though.

@agold: Sounds like a great ultrasound and update! Happy to hear your bed rest isn't as confined anymore - must be nice to be able to be up and about the house/work now! Definitely progress in the right direction!

@MrsSCB: Ugh. This type of stuff makes me angry. And I assume he doesn't know about your pregnancy yet either. Just ugh!

  13. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@MrsSCB: Ugh, that was not an ideal response at all! But honestly, if I don't read too much into it (and without knowing the boss), I feel like he was trying to pay her a compliment but it came off a little backhanded?! I feel like he was trying to be understanding and compliment her desire to give 100% (which he has obviously seen in the workplace) but it just came out wrong. Hopefully that's all it was and that you'll still be fairly considered for her job.

  14. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@pregnantbee: No he doesn't yet. And he did ask her if I'd be interested in taking over her position. She said she was confident I could do it. I think they, plus our communications director, are planning to meet to discuss next week. If I do get offered the position and accept, I'm super nervous about telling them I'm pregnant I'm worried they'll think I was being manipulative or something by not telling them beforehand. But it shouldn't matter, right? Ugh.

@coopsmama: Yeah, I'm hoping he was trying to make her feel better or something, because she was pretty conflicted about it.

  15. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@coopsmama: Ooooh, this assessment seems like it could be plausible. @MrsSCB: I wonder if it just came out wrong?

  16. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: Totally shouldn't matter. That would be discrimination and illegal on their part.

I had my first appointment with nurse midwife team today and it was a reminder of why I love love love having babies with them! The midwife I saw today spent a full hour with me (like they always do) and it felt super therapeutic and we were able to talk about all sorts of things related to the birth and my kids. No Doppler or ultrasound today since I just had a good US last week and at 11 weeks tomorrow it's still a bit early for a HB via Doppler - they usually can't catch one until 13 weeks with my pregnancies.

But I got all my blood work done, breast exam in, etc. so it felt productive and I had two hours away from my kids and was also able to squeeze in time with hubby for a coffee so it was a good morning. Now at almost 2pm neither toddler wants to nap so it's a good thing I got some away time this morning.

  18. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@coopsmama: Oh, that sounds so nice! I'm glad it felt productive even without a scan or Doppler. I wish I could go to a practice with midwives but once I picked a PCP with a certain group, I'm stuck in the group. I had a good enough experience and hired a doula last time, so we'll just do that again.

  19. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@MrsSCB: Don't worry about it! They need to choose you based on your merits and performance at work - not based on whether or not you're pregnant. @pregnantbee: is right and that would be discrimination! Obviously you intend to return to work after pregnancy so I think it shouldn't be a problem and I don't think you need to tell them until you're ready! (It would be different in my mind of you weren't planning on returning, but just out of fairness for them to choose someone who will be able to hold that position consistently down the line vs. someone just taking a short (relatively speaking) maternity leave.)

  20. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@pregnantbee: Ugh that's super annoying that you can't change your mind! But at least your experience went well so it shouldn't be a problem. I had a horrible delivery experience with my first (not with these midwives) so it was truly a blessing to find them. My birth with my second was not at all what I wanted or expected (induced) but it was okay because the providers I had were supportive and loving. And I feel like a good doula can provide that warmth for a birth, too!

  21. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@coopsmama: It's definitely not ideal, but there are 17 OBs in the practice. 17! Depending on when I go into labor, any of them could be the dr on call. I disliked the guy who delivered my son, and he's still there. Thank goodness for my husband and doula who helped advocate for me. That's why we'll get a doula again -- peace of mind that we'll for sure know at least one person at the birth who has seen it hundreds of times and can help fight for us. We already met with one, and we're just deciding whether to go with her or meet with a few more. We have to go with someone other than who we used the first time, otherwise I'd just book her again.

ETA: I wasn't necessarily set on med-free last time but that's what I ended up doing. I'd like to do it again.

  22. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@coopsmama: @pregnantbee: Thanks, I'm trying not to feel guilty about not telling beforehand -- it's far from a given at this point and I just want to make sure I at least get a fair shot.

  23. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: It's none of their business at this point. They really don't have to know. No need to feel guilty.

  24. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@MrsSCB: if there's one thing I've learned about pregnancy and the workplace, it's that no two pregnancies are the same, and no two mothers are the same. I'm guessing he read something in her personality that made him think she'd want to be a SAHM, but that doesn't mean he'd think that of you. The only way to prove yourself is to obviously come back to work postbaby, but I've learned that you can't apologize for other mothers' decisions. And there's no reason you should tell them before you are comfortable just because of her decision. when you are ready to tell them, just make it clear that you do plan to come back and are committed to the new position. it will all work out

@coopsmama: yay for a great appt!!!

  25. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: Thanks for letting me know about your measurements.

@Pirouette: Thanks! And yes, baby steps. I can't even imagine what it will be like to get back to full activity. I keep thinking that maybe once I get to a normal OB I will be treated like "sure, go do your megaformer pilates!"

@MrsSCB: Oh no. Your boss' comments. That's awful. When I told my boss that I am pregnant, he said "well I wish you would have waited until March or April." Ha! They just aren't too sensitive, are they. But like coopsmama said, its quite possible the comments weren't meant in a mean way. So just try to put it out of your mind - especially since they weren't said directly to you. And I probably wouldn't tell them until after you get the new job. Its not like you can be discriminated against because you are pregnant, but it would just be nice to avoid any hint of that.

@coopsmama: Thank you, and yes, it will be nice to get up and around. Although Im sure once I'm home, my husband won't let me do much. Bummer, but at least he is concerned. As for your appointment - and your day in general - it all sounds fantastic!! I'm so glad you love your doctor(s). You sound so upbeat and refreshed! And coffee with your husband in the middle of a weekday sounds like a dream.

@pregnantbee: I'm actually able to change my medical groups (PCP) pretty easily. I have to do it next week actually to go from RE coverage to OB coverage. (Well, I'm praying it goes as easily as I think.) Have you called to see if you can change your medical group?

  26. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: I really don't think I can. I think the only way would be to go to a different affiliated hospital and OB practice that is MUCH further away. Then I wouldn't be able to go to the monthly, biweekly, weekly appointments on my work lunch hour! And it is totally worth being close so I don't have to use all my PTO for appointments.

SOOOOO, I told everyone at work yesterday and today! They had the best reactions. They're all so excited for us, and I'm relieved to be done with The Sweater Chronicles. It's such a relief not to have to hide anymore. So, here's my outfit on day one of "out in the open." Now this little lady better stay put and grow well.

And am I crazy for still being a tiny bit worried that the lab messed up and it's really a boy?? Will have to wait until early March for the anatomy scan and confirmation.

@Pirouette: @agold: Thanks ladies, I will be keeping it to myself a bit longer, I think, and will try not to worry too much about it.

@pregnantbee: You look great, I'm glad you don't have to try to hide anymore! And maybe I shouldn't tell you this, but the DNA testing was wrong for a friend of mine. They told her based on the blood test she was having a boy, and when they got to the anatomy scan, surprise! It was a girl. Although, she had originally been pregnant with twins and lost one, so they suspect that's why the male DNA was in there. Crazy! I think you're probably good, though

  29. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: EEK! That's very interesting. In my head, I know there's a slim chance the DNA test is wrong. However, I also wonder if maybe I went too soon for bloodwork at 10w2d even though it was ok to go after 10w. Maybe there wasn't enough fetal DNA for them to detect the presence of a Y chromosome?? I'm just all up in my head

    And thanks for the compliment!
