@dcw6411: ha!! Ohhhhh yes. The honesty is the best. It reminds me of a story my Mom's friend told - she was showing her younger son pictures from his baby book including some from when she was pregnant at her baby shower (with him). She told him, "and here you are in my tummy" and he looked at her horrified and said "you ate me?!?"

@dcw6411: Yay! I hope baby is still cooking in there and that the tech can see what you're having!

@dcw6411: And thanks, too. DS has always been very inquisitive so this is no different. He has also asked "how will she come out??" Uh.....

We also didn't want him to think the baby is growing in my stomach, so we actually told him the baby is in my uterus and that when she gets bigger, it looks like my belly gets bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if he announced at school tomorrow that he will be a big brother and that baby sister is in mommy's uterus. Lol.

@pregnantbee: omg your son is SO cute! i love those questions! i'm on the other side of the spectrum, since i'm due the very beginning of september but baby will be born end of august. so we're really far apart! doesn't matter though, we're all in this together

    @coopsmama: that is too cute!!

@dcw6411: monday will be here so soon! so excited for you!

@coopsmama:@pregnantbee: awe so cute! Gotta love inquisitive little ones!!

@pirouette: we sure are all in this together!

My DH finally put it all together last night when he started asking about due date and stuff. (He's been quite freaked out by all of this so im trying to let him warm up to it at his pace). He's a big hockey buff...still plays 2 nights a week. We're "due" on 8.28 and so he says: Well, we're going to squeeze those legs of yours together until Sept. 1 because thats the age cut off for hockey. What a hoot!
Are any of your husbands getting used to the idea of a new baby in funny ways?

  7. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@MrsKerch: haha, i love it! DH just keeps touching my (invisible) belly and asking if my maternal sense is telling me it's a boy or girl. which is hilarious because we both had that gut feeling that only a parent can have that our daughter was a boy

  8. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@MrsKerch: Hahaha!! That is hilarious. I'm sure you won't be interested in making it to September once August rolls around - I hope he is understanding. 😜

@Pirouette: We're 2-2 over here on guessing the sex correctly. I'm curious if we're correct again! With my first my sex drive kicked into high gear towards the end of the first trimester and never went away - it was a fun pregnancy. From that we concluded boy since we figured the increase of testosterone had something to do with it. Sure enough. Second pregnancy I was a lot less sick and had no sex drive whatsoever and so we went to the anatomy ultrasound and told the tech, "we're sure it's a girl, can you verify?" So first thing she did was confirm girl. I've been thinking girl this whole pregnancy based on my symptoms and last night my husband laughed at me because I'm so not feeling sexy or even remotely interested and he said "yup, another girl! I thought so! If it were a boy we'd be getting to where things should start being more fun." 😂 So we're both pretty convinced this is a girl - it will be interesting to see! If you had to venture a guess what do you think for this baby? Right or wrong, still fun to guess!

  9. MrsKerch

    apricot / 256 posts

If I had to guess, it probably will be a girl. I don't know...just a hunch but I will be happy either way.

  10. dcw6411

    apricot / 382 posts

@coopsmama: My guess is a girl, but everyone who knows about this pregnancy (just family) says boy. We have one of each already and would be more than happy with either!

  11. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@coopsmama: HA! I've never heard that sex drive connection before but could totally see it being true! My symptoms so far have been similar to my first pregnancy but also different in weird ways. my MS is a little worse, but the excess saliva isn't an issue, and sore and huge boobs not at all, and extreme fatigue is way less. and my face isn't fat like it was immediately last time. and yes, low sex drive, but I attribute that to the nausea. so based on the MS issue, i tend to think I'm having another girl. the other stuff just makes me want my appt to come faster to make sure everything is good! I've never been pregnant with a boy so I don't know how it would differ!

oddly enough, with my miscarriage last year, i was 100% certain it was a girl. so maybe that one was the boy

We're fairly convinced it's a girl too. This pregnancy just feels SO different than with DS.

I got my Panorama blood work today, but it was like pulling teeth to get it done. I get so frustrated with my doctor's office. It's like all the people that work there are sheep, and they just repeat what they've been told. So initially the nurse said we should do the panorama test at 11w, and they were getting a lot of retests before that. So I researched the test and found that panorma says you have approximately a 90% chance of not needing a retest between 9 and 10 weeks. Between 10 and 11 weeks you have a 95% chance of needing a retest. So I decided I would do the test today at 9w1d, and I should have the results back by my 11w appointment and I can get a redraw then if I need.

Well I called today to set it up and they gave me a huge hard time and the receptionist was like "the nurse won't do it before 10w". And so I started quoting the stats to them asking if every one of their patients before 10w just happens to fall into the 10% that needs a re-draw. Eventually I got someone on the phone who was like sure just be aware you might need to do it over.

This was after I had to fight with them to get a Zofran prescription. I haven't mentioned this here, but I have type 2 diabetes. I have PCOS with insulin resistance, and I had GD with my first pregnancy, and I'm one of the unlucky few where it never went away. So I can not treat morning sickness with crackers, which was their advice to me. All the nurse could tell me was that taking Zofran increased your chances of the baby having a congenital heart defect. But she couldn't tell me what the chances were. So I did my own research and found that taking zofran before 9w increases your chances from 1 to 1.3 percent . I'm sorry, but I think my baby's in far more danger if all I can eat are saltines all day.

So I'm just ugh about them right now. A lot of my job is dealing in statistics and probabilities and the likelihood of something happening, and these people just parrot what they've been told instead of actually understanding anythign they say. 😠

@Pirouette: My friends who have had boys all say the sex drive connection is totally true, too. It sounds weird but idk - I think there is something to it. I will be excited to hear good news after your first appointment. I'm sure all will be well. Fwiw, I've not had sore boobs. with my last two pregnancies like they were the first time around. It always made me nervous but the pregnancies have checked out normal.

@ShootingStar: oh my gosh!! What a pain. Sounds like they actually need to educate their staff on statistics and actually thinking through situations before spouting off advice. That would be so frustrating to me. I'm sorry you're not feeling heard. Glad you were finally able to set up your draw!

@ShootingStar: I live that you keep challenging them! Yay to being your own advocate, but boo to having to fight everything.

@coopsmama @pirouette - I was on pelvic rest (read- no sex) with my first so I had sex drive through the roof. With a girl! But my sex drive may have been a result of not being able to get any?!

  15. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@coopsmama: interesting, sore boobs (and also huge boobs) were one of my strongest symptoms with my first, and this time, they haven't grown at all, and I have only occasional mild soreness. I'm wondering if having gone through nursing for 18 months, they are desensitized or something? and thanks, i think all will be well at my appt, but then moments of panic set in at random times (like in my dreams, usually)! less than 2 weeks!

  16. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: haha yes, if you're told you can't, then you definitely want it more!

@MrsKerch: Lol, is this your first? I hear first babies often come late, so if it is, you might be in luck Oh, men and sports...my husband works for a sports team, and we literally planned TTC to avoid playoff season (he basically works constantly during that period and I didn't want to be alone with the baby right away!)

@ShootingStar: sorry your doctor's office has been such a pain I hope the Zofran helps you feel better asap. I am a total analytical numbers person, so I'm with you, I want the actual stats for a lot of this "don't do it" stuff. My H has been reading Expecting Better, which explores a lot of the numbers, and he's really enjoying it.

In terms of the baby's sex, I have noooooooo idea! So many friends have said they had a hunch from the beginning about their kids, but beats me! Can't wait to find out though.

I've been having fun with this baby size comparison website -- I'm 10 weeks today, and my baby is the size of the golden snitch (for any other Harry Potter fans ) or a Ferraro Rocher chocolate or a poker chip: https://babysizer.com

@coopsmama: YES, hahaha. Girl pregnancies = no sex drive. Boy pregnancy = crazy sex drive. I'm sure the testosterone had something to do with it. 😂

Based on that theory, I'm having another girl lol.

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

I love that everyone is guessing the sex! Can't wait to see who is right! For what it's worth, I've been wrong both times. I only had dreams about girls when pregnant with DS. Didn't have any gender dreams with this one, but since I feel the same way I did last time, I assumed it was another boy. Oops!

@HLK208: I was actually hoping for an upturn in sex drive with this pregnancy. I really couldn't care what the baby is - will be so delighted with either! But I feel like since weaning M I have had nooooo drive so was hoping to feel a little more 🎉🎉🎉. Probably TMI. Sorry ladies. 😜😂

  21. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@coopsmama: BFing totally zapped my drive. and it took a few months after weaning before i got it back. And i had a miscarriage just before weaning so i am sure that didn't help matters. But a few months after weaning it was like one day, it was finally back!! it was amazing! and now i'm pregnant so hit or miss

@mrsscb: yes, our first. He is one of 5 and they were/are all hockey players. Athletics show up in both of our backgrounds pretty much from day one so we'll probably be those parents teaching to skate or ski at 18 months!

@Pirouette: @ShootingStar: @HLK208: Bahaha okay glad it's not just me!

And @HLK208: I totally was just thinking about how much more tmi this thread will no doubt get the further on we go - the mucus plugs, the peeing while sneezing (thanks baby!), the DTD reports in an attempt to kick start labor. This is such a glamorous and romantic time of life. Not!

How is everyone feeling today? I had to go to the 4th page of the boards to find us this morning. I am having pre-appointment gitters today. I go in tomorrow morning for a check on my bleed, contractions and of course baby. I so nervous. Eek!
I have joined the crazy dreams club. Thankful to be sleeping better but when I wake up I am so mad at DH for whatever crazy thing he did in my dream. Lol. Poor DH!

@coopsmama: @dcw6411: I am doing well. We are gonna get out of the house today and celebrate my friends birthday a little bit with her. Later tonight we are gonna hit a Babywearing meeting. I got up and straightened my hair, painted my nails and picked out clothes that make me feel cute. DH set up for me to get my hair done this weekend while I am visiting my parents. So I am looking forward to that normal flow of things. I am not pushing myself too much because I have no desire to bleed more then I have to. Physically I feel almost normal. Emotionally I am still sad a little but I am sure I will always be a little sad about not meeting this baby. DH is happy that I am getting out of the house today. He has been worried since I have been in the house in sweats and sports bra for like a month.

@dcw6411: sending you all the good vibes for your appt tomorrow! we have so many pages i can't keep track of who has appts coming up anymore!

I had a bad day yesterday. i ate lunch and then about an hour later started having what felt like contractions - tightening and extreme pain that lasted like 15 seconds at a time and happened every few minutes for the better part of an hour. I was sweating and had chills and was pretty sure there was something seriously wrong (and all this was at work, of course). then all of the sudden, i realized, no, my stomach is very sick. I felt so much better after finally going to the bathroom about an hour later (sorry, never TMI around here, right?) but i still had light cramps the rest of the day and am just terrified to eat ever again (not really, i'm eating lunch right now, but eating in fear!). I have no idea what caused it, but it was the worst hour I've ever experienced at work, that's for sure! and i couldn't shake the feeling something was really wrong.

other than that, DH came back from yet another work trip last night, and i was so thankful to see him after a rough day.

hope everyone else is doing well!

@Pirouette: Um you are amazing for surviving that at work! This has been happening to me every couple of days and it is horrible! I cant imagine it happening at work. For me, the intense pain fades after using the restroom, but I seem to have increased contractions for the remainder of the day. I had it happen yesterday as well and had to lock myself in the restroom while my toddlers tried to break down the door. I hope it was just a one time random experience for you. I think mine is occurring because I'm taking so many medications so I am hopeful things will settle after my medical use stops. Glad your DH is home!
