@MrsKerch: Yes, body temp regulation has been what I'm having trouble with the last few days and I'm usually really good about it. Such a strange thing and I'm so glad you mentioned it because it was driving me crazy.

@Silva: That's so great your test results came back good. I'm so happy for you. And no finding out gender, right??

@mrschickpea: Fantastic! Look at your sweet baby's little face. So adorable already. You are another team green, right?

@HLK208: I'm glad you heard the heartbeat! That's a great sign!

@agold: yup, still team green. They don't do that test if you don't request it, so our next decision point will be the anatomy scan. I've been considering finding out because my daughter is hell bent on a girl, and I'm worried she might need some time to adjust if it's a boy. But I really love the surprise at the end, so hopefully they more we talk about it the more comfortable she will be with either outcome!

@agold: yes, still team green! We had a blood draw for the Harmony test after the scan and requested not to include the sex. Will hear back in about 2 weeks for genetic abnormalities.

@Silva: yes, I was so surreal! I kept bursting out laughing when the baby was jumping around because it was so strange and I was in awe! It was like OMG this is real and it MOVES lol

@pregnantbee: we saw the little fingers and feet, it was so neat! It liked it's hands next to its face so we got a lot of photos of that

@Pirouette: thank you! So excited and relieved!

Thank you all for your good wishes for our NT scan. I'm on my phone so I will tag you all later. You ladies are so wonderful!

So, it went great! Baby looks healthy and is measuring a bit ahead. My bleed is still there but shows it's healing. They have moved my due date to July 30, but I hope you will all still have me in the August group if that is ok.

In our biggest news of the scan... it is a BOY! We were both shocked, as we were convinced it was a girl, but we are thrilled! Our boys will be two years apart and I'm sure will have a blast together. Here he is in all his glory!

@dcw6411: Wow! What an amazing ultrasound. Hooray for a boy! I can't believe you saw "it" so soon! Is your husband so excited? I'm glad your bleed is healing. Mine is still here, but slowing/healing too. Thank God.

@Silva: I think the surprise at the end would be so fun too! I can imagine its different this time around when you have your little girl wanting to know so badly!

@mrschickpea: I would love to see my baby moving around on the ultrasound! Do you think you drank or ate anything that made the baby move a lot?

For the girls who had the early chromosome blood test done, did anyone have to pay out of pocket for it? How much was it? I haven't really ever planned to have it done. But was just thinking about it recently. I know my insurance won't cover it so I'm curious if it is like $25, $100, or $500.

  20. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@agold: I'm interested too! My doctor said some insurance plans will just have you pay $100 out of pocket for the testing so I assume it's more than that!

  21. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@HLK208: I can't imagine I will do it if its more than $100. I'd like it to just be $10!

@agold: so glad your bleeding is slowing as well. With my first, i never did anything special but she never stopped moving around during the ultrasounds! I've heard you can have some juice a little before or something but i never did - even when i had to fast 10 hours for every appointment in the third tri, she was still so so active! A dancer at heart i guess

@agold: so I'm not AMA, and my doctor wasn't sure my insurance would cover it. They called and got prior authorization, luckily. BUT the back up plan was that I call the company directly (harmony) and ask them what it would cost me and explain I wanted it but my insurance wasn't covering it. I guess the company is coming down on price a lot, trying to get the word out about the test so that it becomes standard. Someone I know did it this way and Harmony had her pay 80.00. You could try!

@dcw6411: congratulations! I'm so happy to hear things continue to look healthy! What a scary start you've had!

  24. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@agold: I think they cap it at like $250 or something. You'd have to call your insurance and find out if there's coverage and then call the company you want to go with. I did MT21 the first time, Panorama this time. Still waiting for results though.

  25. MrsKerch

    apricot / 256 posts

@agold: I had it done and am waiting to find out the $$. I'll let you know on Thurs after my apt if they tell me and you don't get any other response by then.

  26. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@agold: it's $350 at my doc's we would totally do it if $200 or less but $350 is a bit steep.

ETA: they only offer one brand and my insurance (Cigna) doesn't cover NIPT unless you are AMA or have risk factors. Other brands may be less expensive OOP, but as far as I know, my office will only do that one. I'm not sure you could ask them to do Harmony instead, or something (just for example).

  27. mrschickpea

    clementine / 928 posts

@agold: if insurance doesn't cover (probably won't) our OBGYN office is contracted with the company so the max would be $200 if insurance didn't pay for it.

I had an egg mcmuffin before the scan and a bite of DH's spicy chicken sandwich! Maybe that did it!

  28. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@agold: @HLK208: Wish I could help, but because I'm AMA, ("age indications") my testing is mostly covered. I am curious to see how much is covered though. Last time I had the quad blood screens and an Amnio and paid nothing OOP. This time we're doing a CVS (next week!), so I will see what else, if anything, the MF Doc recommends.

@dcw6411: Such good news about the bleed. And congratulations on your beautiful boy!

@pregnantbee: So happy for you that you are out of the pregnancy closet! Although I will miss your sweater chronicles!

What are you guys planning on dressing your august babies in? There was a thread about summer babies that made me think about it, but her baby's due in May so she'll have a newborn all summer. I think we'll probably end up having LO2 around 8/15. August will most likely be 80s or warmer, and September will probably be 70s though pretty much anything from 60-90 can happen.

DS was a November baby, so it was a no brainer. But with summer temps and AC and being born so close to the fall, I have no idea what kind of clothes to stock up on.

@Pirouette: Thanks for your comment! And I will definitely try orange juice in the morning. And how sweet - a dancer at heart!

@Silva: Thanks for the tip. I am not above calling the company directly to ask for a discount. $80 isn't too bad.

@ShootingStar: Thanks for the info. I didn't know there were different companies offering the same kind of test.

@MrsKerch: Oh you are daring to have it done without knowing the price first. Are you going through insurance or OOP? And no, I will not figure this out by Thursday.

@MrsSCB: oh, wow! $350!?! I wouldn't do it either. I really don't think I will do it if its over $100. (And I only say $100 because my little mom said she'd help me pay for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay over $50.)

@mrschickpea: Now I'm craving an egg mcmuffin! My appointments are always so early that I don't think I will have time for anything more than OJ. So hopefully that does the trick!

@pwnstar: Well, the silver lining to being considered AMA is that you didn't have to pay for all that!

@ShootingStar: August and September are usually the hottest months in my area so I'm hoping to have some cute summery newborn clothes for at least a bit. And shoot. I really haven't even started thinking about logistics such as clothing. I'm stumped on choosing a rocker!

  31. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@ShootingStar: LO was born in december so we had lots of fleece sleepers. i'm guessing we'll just do cotton sleepers with this one, since i'm due the last week in august and it gets cool pretty quickly here once september rolls around. I found sleepers the easiest to deal with when LO was that little.

  32. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@ShootingStar: I live in the South, and LO was born in early September. She wore a lot of kimono tops/onesies (I was seriously nervous about her head/neck, and I didn't want to put things on over her head! But the kimono style made changes (both clothing and diaper) super super easy), socks, and diapers, covered with a muslin swaddle the first few months. When taking her to the Ped, I generally used a light cotton sleeper. Easy peasy!

  33. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@ShootingStar: I'm not going to be buying any summer clothes! It starts to get cooler in September. Like you, I'm guessing baby will come mid-August (went a little early last time), so maybe some short sleeve onesies and light sleepers but that's it. We don't have AC throughout our house but we have it in our bedroom where baby will be sleeping. DD was a July baby so she got more use out of summer clothes.

    @agold: True!

  35. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

Oh my gosh! I don't even know how to dress a baby!

  36. MrsKerch

    apricot / 256 posts

@agold: I definitely should have asked how much but we were determined to do it regardless because of my genetic issues anyway.

  37. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket because I am AMA and my insurance is great. I got the Counsyl test, and the genetic counselor told me that the test runs $750 through insurance or if you call them and tell them you are paying out of pocket, they cap it at $350. I'm guessing other companies do similar things.

  38. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@MrsKerch: Oh I absolutely understand that. If you have a real concern, that no price would be a deterrent.

    @pregnantbee: Gees. Why so much!?

  39. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@ShootingStar: I'm in Northern CA and it is hottest here in Aug-Oct. so I'm assuming I'll be dressing her in summer clothing plus a Lauer for infants? We spend a lot of time indoors in A/C when it's so hot, so she'll need extra layers.

  40. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: No idea. I took the test without knowing whet would be covered. I was willing to pay $350 for peace of mind. Was thrilled when insurance covered all.

As for dressing a baby? The rule of thumb in early days is to dress them the way you would dress that day and then add 1 layer since they can't regulate their body temperature that young.
