We had the NT scan this morning. I was a complete wreck last night, as we've had no u/s and hadn't heard the heartbeat yet, so I kept thinking what if we walk in and there's no baby in there?! Ugh.
Anyway....there is a baby and everything looks perfect. DD was so excited to see "sibling baby" as she says. Heartbeat was great at 167 and I'm measuring a bit ahead, but they won't change my due date. I feel like I can breath for the first time in a few weeks.
@pirouette you have an u/s today too, right? Hope it's wonderful and your spa weekend was wonderful!
@shootingstar- that's all really interesting!are you having an NT scan? The tech who did my scan said that now they do a second blood draw at 16-20w (new to me, they only did one draw with my first) that can predict a bunch of things like pre-e and preterm labor.

@OldpuebloJenn: So happy to hear all went well with the NT! Isn't it a relief to see a baby in there? I love that she calls the baby "sibling baby" - too cute.

@OldpuebloJenn: Yay! I'm so glad it went well. What a relief. Love that you got to take DD, too. I have to have a second round of bloodwork, too, after 15 weeks. I had totally forgotten about that from the first time around.

@OldpuebloJenn: Congrats on the good scan! I had the same thought going into my first ultrasound, that they'd be like "there's no baby in here". I haven't heard of that blood work, that's fascinating. I'm going to have to do some research and ask about it.
@coopsmama: Our front-runner is Lily.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@ShootingStar: I ️ that name! That's a great choice.
We have a running list. It's hard because our first two have last name type first names (unintentionally really, those are just the names we liked for them) and so I don't know whether I need to continue that trend or not. Feeling like it would be kind of weird for our third and probable last child to have a different type of name?
Also: went full on maternity clothes today. And I feel SO comfortable.

@OldpuebloJenn: hooray for a good scan! its such a relief!
@coopsmama: yeah, i had to put on a maternity shirt today because my belly kept peeking out. it continues to shock me how early I'm showing. its actual bump now, too- it starts in my pelvis and slopes up and is firm.
we have a boy name picked out (alden), and a couple girl names. I have one favorite girl name, but my husband still waffles a little. Plus some friends recently told us that the nickname for my favorite girl name (wilhelmina) is a name they might use (willa). I love the name enough to not really care- but it has given me some pause.

@OldpuebloJenn: I'm so glad you had a great appointment today!
@coopsmama: My husband really is pulling for Michael for a boy. But its because basically everyone in our life is named Michael, so he thinks its a great reason to name the baby Michael. Both uncles to baby are Michael and two our our best friends are Michael. But my husband was named after his uncle so he thinks this is great. I'm a little meh about it, but otherwise am fine with the name. Benjamin is another contender. But he doesn't like "Benny" for short, and I think shortening classic boy names with a "y" is so adorable.
@ShootingStar: Lily is so pretty. I'm so glad you had a great appointment today, too. Although, I really hope you don't get pre-eclampsia this time around.
So I have a new appointment with my regular ob/gyn today later this afternoon. This is my first appointment with her and I'm around 10/11 weeks. I don't think I'm scheduled to have an ultrasound. I sort of wish I was, though, because I had a big red spotting incident over that included clots. Ugh. I was seriously thinking that I was past this. And really, I'm on like 85% bed rest still, with extremely minimal activity otherwise. So I can't even imagine what's causing this bleeding. And really.. what even happens at a 10/11 week appointment with the obgyn? For non-IVF girls, what's the general schedule of appointments up wot the 10/11 week mark?
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: basically after my initial appointment it was just a heart rate listen, a measurement, and a chat. Every four weeks until the third trimester I think? Then every two? I forget. The only other special appointments were the NT scan (which we did last time but aren't doing this time), the anatomy scan around 18-20 weeks, and the gestational diabetes appointment.

@Silva: Thanks for telling me all of this. When was the NT scan? And what specifically is that?
pear / 1718 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: So glad that your appointment went well!
@coopsmama: We have kicked around a couple of girl names, but nothing yet for a boy. We're going to wait until after we know the sex before we discuss names seriously (we should know in about 10 days or so!).
@agold: I'm so sorry things haven't calmed down for you. You never know, the OB may send you for an u/s. It just depends on how everything checks out. I am sure you will get to hear the HB today at least!

@OldpuebloJenn: yay for a great ultrasound and healthy baby!!!
@coopsmama: Non-mat clothes are way too uncomfortable lately!

@pwnstar: I'm paying out of pocket for this appointment today and I was quoted about $358 without an ultrasound. Today, however, my husband and I both agreed that we would pay whatever amount to have an ultrasound so we could see that everything is okay. Either way, I go to my RE on Wednesday and will have an ultrasound there.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: it's the nuchal scan, part of the screening for genetic abnormalities (along with some blood draws). We did it the first time right around 12 weeks, but this time did the harmony screening test so it was just a blood draw.
pear / 1718 posts
@agold: It's OOP even with the symptoms you've been experiencing? I'm sorry to hear that.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@pwnstar: Well, it wouldn't normally be out of pocket. I have a lame, but also in way great, insurance that requires me to pick a medical group. The RE i wanted to go to is not in the same medical group as the ob/gyn I wanted. So I had to choose when to switch medical groups. I have two more appointments with RE, and those will be more expensive out of pocket than the one appointment with ob/gyn. I hope that makes sense. Once I switch medical group to ob/gyn, I pay nothing and I think even the birth itself will cost me around a $50 co-pay. Right now with RE, I pay $40 co-pay for each "ob" appointment. The infertility stuff prior to positive pregnancy test was all out of pocket.

@ShootingStar: What a beautiful name I'm also hoping for no pre-e for you! So stressful.
@coopsmama: Hooray for maternity clothes! Might as well be comfortable.
@Silva: Cute names! I hear ya on the still not believing you are showing as much as you are. I realized that mine is still more blump than true bump. I can suck it in and make it mostly disappear, though that's definitely not comfortable to do for more than a couple seconds!
@agold: I love the name Benjamin and Benji for short I think 10w was just the official intake appointment -- I did have an u/s and the official handing over of the "what to do/not do when pregnant" manual. I also got paperwork for the NT-scan bloodwork.
@HLK208: Ow, ow, ow! No crazy baby-related dreams for me yet, but the crazy other dreams continue. Last night, I apparently went to the movies to watch a screening of the movie made from my screenplay. (Uh, I'm not a writer....) I couldn't find a bathroom that worked. (shock) And I couldn't find short Twizzlers. Just the kind that look like licorice laces. Can you tell what I've been craving??
We have a girl name that we've been considering -- it was one of our top choices from the first time around when we ended up with a boy. Not sure if it's a final decision yet, and we don't plan to share until after birth. I think I'd like to revisit some name boards and make sure we haven't overlooked anything we like a bit better.
Not much else to report!

@OldpuebloJenn: yay!! great update!! and thanks for thinking of me, i was the same ball of stress as it sounds like you were this morning!
Update from me...I had a wonderful spa weekend! SO nice and relaxing, and we went out to a few nice dinners (I gained like 10 happy pounds this weekend!) Was totally relaxed until this morning when i was just a huge mess. My BP at my appt was through the roof (i have abnormally low BP) and the nurse was like "um, nervous much?" lol.
Anyway, I am officially pregnant! There's a baby in there! I am measuring a few days behind my LMP due date (not surprising since I ovulated a little late) but my doc is sticking with my LMP due date of 9/1 since it'll be easier for purposes of planning my c section, which will be right at 39 weeks assuming all is good (around 8/25). Baby looks good, and had a h/b of 171 (maybe baby was nervous too ). We talked a little about the protocol for this pregnancy, and she said she'll order an extra ultrasound or two between 20-32 weeks to see if i'll need the additional monitoring. I'm officially not AMA since I won't turn 35 until 2 months after my due date. However, she wants me to get the panorama test done next week, so i'll stop by there for blood work, and I'm waiting to schedule the NT scan once the u/s center figures out my new insurance (waiting for a call back). Excited that I'll know the sex in like 2 weeks!
we are thinking of telling the parents this weekend, and then everyone else after the panorama and NT results in about 2 weeks. EEK! it's finally feeling real! the relief on DH's face was awesome after the appt and i can only imagine what i looked like!

@ShootingStar: I love the name Lily!
@agold: Benjamin was on my boy list for #1, but we never actually got to the point of discussing boy names.
@HLK208: i've been having crazy dreams. more like I'm crazy in my dreams haha. I had a dream that we adopted a dog and then lost it on the way home (!!!) and were too embarrassed to go back to the shelter and tell them because we knew we'd never get a dog again after losing one on the way home. and then my BIL called my husband and said they found a dog while out partying in NYC and brought it home and sent us pictures and it was so freaking cute. I was so jealous i started crying. See? Crazy person! I woke up wondering what in the world is wrong with me.

@Pirouette: that entire description of your dream made me laugh! Also, my first is a Ben

@Pirouette: and YAY for a great appointment!! So glad baby is doing well!!
pineapple / 12234 posts
@agold: I so hope the bleeding stops hugs! My doctor just wanted to discuss the pregnancy and make sure baby was growing okay last week (9w, 6d) so I didn't get much out of that appointment.
I have another ultrasound tomorrow...a little nervous since baby was measuring small last week
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@HLK208: thanks!! and you definitely have good choice in names - it must be getting harder and harder with each baby I'm thinking of you for your appt tomorrow and hoping that last week was a fluke!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@HLK208: How small is the baby measuring? Mine always measures a couple of days behind and doctor said no problem. My sister's girl was like a week or more behind the entire time. So I hope you have nothing to worry about over this.

@Pirouette: whew for you too! Glad everything looked great! And yay for a wonderful weekend!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: @ShootingStar: I'm glad you both had good appointments!
@agold: I hope your appointment goes well! I had my last appointment at 8 weeks (with an US), and my next one is a week from today for my NT scan. I'll be about 13 weeks. I think that's pretty typical for this time, around a month or so between appointments.
@Pirouette: a spa weekend sounds amazing, glad you enjoyed it! And yay for a good appointment
@HLK208: I hope all goes well tomorrow!!
I am so ready for this day to be over. We had to let someone go at work today. While I definitely think it's the right decision, I obviously don't enjoy the prospect of someone being fired We are also looking for a new writer, so we had four interviews today. I am exhausted!
Just one week until my next appointment and I can't wait! I'm feeling nervous all over again and just want to see that all is OK.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@MrsSCB: I'm sorry you're having a hard day I hope the rest of the week is better!
@agold: I was 9w 6d last appointment and baby was measuring 8w 3d - so kind of a big difference. But it wasn't an internal u/s so that's probably why. I'll get a better idea tomorrow if the baby is actually measuring behind.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@HLK208: it can only go up from here! (I hope...ha). Is it possible you might have ovulated late? I measured a week behind, but since I wasn't tracking o-date super closely they just said I probably ovulated late.
Oh, forgot to mention, I had a dentist appointment this morning that was probably my easiest appointment ever because I couldn't do xrays and stuff. So just a cleaning. I think it took about 15 minutes. But my gums were definitely more sensitive. The hygienist said that's not uncommon because of increased blood flow during pregnancy. Just FYI in case any of you have a dental appt coming up. I also learned my dentist does a free extra cleaning for moms-to-be, which is nice.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@HLK208: I think that measuring the babies at this point is such an imperfect art. So I really wouldn't be too concerned.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@MrsSCB: my gums are definitely more sensitive during pregnancy! also, oddly enough, being pregnant last time led to 3 cavities and my first dentist appt postpartum - after not having had one since i was a kid! kinda scared to go back to the dentist after this pregnancy
pomelo / 5257 posts
@Pirouette: Uh oh, I'm prone to cavities in general, so that doesn't sound good! I grind my teeth at night, which apparently makes you more likely to get them. Hopefully the extra cleaning they give will help some. I already scheduled it for June.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@Pirouette: yes! I had 6 after my pregnancy with DD1 I never get cavities and I go in for cleanings every 6 months!
@MrsSCB: @agold: thanks! I got an early positive so I think my date is right but we'll see tomorrow!

OB called today and said that there wasn't enough fetal DNA for the Panorama I had last week at 12w. She said its normal and it happens but I was kind of concerned? I know of many people who had it done at 9/10w with no issues so I'm kinda bummed She said I'm low risk and I don't have to redo but I know DH really wants the results back so she suggested coming back at 15w for a redraw and to have DH swabbed. Boo, I was really looking forward to knowing the results for piece of mind sooner rather than later
@OldpuebloJenn: so glad your NT went well!
@Silva: I love Alden! We have Alban on our short list!

Hi all, this is such an active board! I've been stalking heavily but didn't feel comfortable joining for a while after two successive m/c's in late summer and fall. But, I've just had my third good scan and would love to be here.
Location: NYC
EDD: 8/25
How far along: 10w4d
First child? Yes
First doctor appointment: a month ago--we've had 3 scans already, all looking good.
Any symptoms so far? queasy, fatigued, awful insomnia, constant light cramping, breasts are huge and excruciating. quease seems like it's been tapering off a bit since I got to 10w.
Who have you told? several friends who know about my losses and know how to deal with my m/c PTSD and finally my parents today.
nectarine / 2461 posts
@HLK208: thanks! I think we have the same EDD? *that's* how heavily I've been lurking.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@mrschickpea: Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear this. It's good that it still sounds like you're at low risk....Can't hurt to have another draw.
@LCTBQE: Hooray! Welcome. So happy to have you join us. I've also had 2 losses in the last year, and it has taken me a long time to feel comfortable that this is actually happening. Hugs. I'll add you to the roster
nectarine / 2461 posts
@MrsSCB: thanks PS did you end up trying Unisom? I took it last night for the first time (finally got my ass to Rite Aid) and it is a miracle drug. I slept like normal for the first time in a month, esp notable considering I was a total ball of nerves before our appointment today.
