@HLK208: Thanks. I suppose if I really don't like how my birth process goes with the doctor switching scenario, then for #2 (God willing there is a #2), I can also switch my insurance and go to the one lady doctor that all my friends go to. She's the only one at her office.

@agold: yeah! I'd get to know the doctors and get a feel for it! It might be perfectly okay just never go to an office than has dozens of doctors like my old office lol. It was so impersonal!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@HLK208: I really try to avoid an office like that. I like to be able to call and talk to a front desk lady that I know who will take out a book and find the perfect appointment time for me! ETA: big medical centers with lots of doctors feel a lot less personal.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: I'll echo the other ladies and say that at my large practice, there's no guarantee I'll get my own dr at delivery. In fact, there's only a 1 in 16 or 17 chance! And I only have appointments with her, so I will never even meet the other Drs. This is the primary reason why we hired a doula last time and have decided to hire one this time. I lean toward wanting an unmedicated birth (did it last time) and also wanted to be sure I'd know one person in the room besides my husband.

@pregnantbee: Yes, I suppose that makes sense about a large practice. I've never wanted to be at a large practice and when I first started going to my lady doctor just for annual appointments, it was just her and her own practice. Then she got one other lady doctor. Then I went to my RE for over a year and when I came back to lady doctor, she now has a third man doctor. Ugh. Three doctors didn't automatically register as "large practice" to me. But I'm done complaining about it. I knew I was bound to run into a problem with the type of insurance I've been clinging to.

@Pirouette: oh and we sort of told our daughter. She came to the last ultrasound and understood it was a baby. She thinks that the baby lives at the doctor's office though, which is sort of hilarious. We will explain it to her once we start telling more people.

@dcw6411: thanks!!
@Zbug: haha! That's pretty cute. We are thinking of telling our parents this weekend and I'm thinking we'll tell lo too, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it
@HLK208: thinking of you today!!

Alright ladies, add me to the list!
Location: FL
EDD: August 16 (hoping I go a bit later)
How far along: 12 weeks today.
First child? - Third
First doctor appointment: Had two good ultrasounds already and the NT scan next week (no risk factors so assuming it will go well).
Any symptoms so far? Hungry, tired, hoping to be less moody now that we are a bit more in the clear from a loss.
Who have you told? Parents and siblings.
Happy to be here in another August group! This board has been really active and Ive been reading to follow along. Later on I hope we can start some "theme" threads to keep things kinda organized (like nursery idea thread, baby gear/registry thread etc)>

@T.H.O.U.: yay!!! So glad to see you post here! I was wondering if you'd join
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@HLK208: Yes! We had two prior losses (one being later in the first tri, a mmc). Also several friends IRL know about HB so I wanted to be cautious of posting in non-gold threads for a while.

@LCTBQE: @Zbug: @T.H.O.U.: Welcome - the more the merrier!
@agold: Definitely meet more doctors. I think you will be surprised how much you like each of them! For my first pregnancy, I met 5 or 6 doctors in the practice group, and LO was delivered by a doctor I had never met. It was a total non-issue to me, which really surprised me!

@T.H.O.U.: Welcome! I'm so glad you finally joined us And as you may have read above, several of us have experienced loss. These ladies have been amazing support. Excellent idea about breaking the thread into themed threads later. Feel free to do that.

@T.H.O.U.: yay!!!! Welcome! We can def do some themed threads to break it up, or even start a private fb group to break things up a little easier.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: I do love the ideas of themed threads after we get past the first tri and really start thinking about other topics. I'm not sure I'd participate as much if the talk were moved to FB. Am willing to try, but I really like keeping this all separate.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@pregnantbee: Yea, one of my other groups did a FB group but not until much later (like 3rd tri/birth I think) not everyone joined (since its your real name) and its a pretty quiet group. I"m all for hanging around here for a while. I will probably start a gold "bump" thread because I dont like posting pictures without some privacy.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@T.H.O.U.: That's exactly it. I don't mind using Gold threads, though my gold expires in about a month and I'm not sure I'm renewing. I do like the private message feature, though Wouldn't want to exclude anyone.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@pregnantbee: We can do a second bump thread that isn't gold, too. Mine is due to expire soon and I won't be renewing right away if at all but I have no problem with posting pictures with my head cropped or whatever so it's not a big deal to me, personally.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: oh i don't care either way. I just dont post pics on here, but other than that it's all the same to me!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@coopsmama: @Pirouette: I just crop out my head so I don't mind sharing pics that way.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@pregnantbee: Agreed. I'd prefer that so no one is excluded and we can all share our growing bumps!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: congratulations on baby #3!!
@pwnstar: Thanks for your input. Now that I've slept on it, I'm feeling much better about it all.
I'm so happy with this group as it is! I won't join any facebook groups or gold posts, but its great for you all to do whatever you need to feel comfortable if this thread doesn't do it for you. @coopsmama: you are so sweet to not want to exclude anyone!!

I'm on my phone and just lost my tags, but thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!
@T.H.O.U.: I think there are a lot of us here in the excited but scared group here

The November '13 board moved to Facebook once our babies started to be born. A lot of people wanted a more secure place to share pictures. I'm fine with either here or FB.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: I'm glad you are feeling better about the doctor situation.
Sorry to belabor the point, but For what it's worth, I talked to the doctor on the phone some during labor, but she really only came in when I made the decision to start pitocin/epidural, and at the end for pushing. Other than that it was me and my husband laboring, with nursing staff checking in and taking care of us.
I go to a practice with 7 doctors/midwives, and I really love some of them and am totally keeping my fingers crossed that I don't end up with other ones. But it's the luck of the draw. And ultimately they all seem to have generally the same approach (low c section rates, etc), so I trust them all to help make decisions about my health.

@T.H.O.U.: Congrats!! We are due date twins
I would be happy to do a Facebook group, although I know not everyone is all that active on Facebook. I'm not in general, but I have a secret Sept. 2012 wives Facebook group that formed while planning our weddings (we met on the Knot board) , and we are all still super active in the group, like we chat every day and a lot of us have met in person. It's pretty awesome! I'd be happy to stick to HB, too, though.
So today, Babysizer says my baby is the size of a chicken nugget (week 12). I think that's pretty awesome, lol.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@Silva: Agree. I go to a large practice (10 OBs). They like you to see a few of the other ones (usually mid pregnancy when there isn't much to discuss). But luckily since I was induced both times before I was able to make sure my OB was there. But he really was just there for the 20-30 minutes of delivery. Other than that its a random nurse with you anyways.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: and @Silva: Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I felt like I was at some sort of cafeteria doctor office so its good to hear that this is common amongst other girls.
And next question - has anyone done cord banking? I got a lot of info on it, including a $300 off coupon! Holy sh*t. How much is it to do? But I was reading the info and it made me nearly cry thinking that I needed to do it for my baby. But shoot. If its so medically necessary, why would it be thousands of dollars?
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@agold: we did not do it. My husband is a pediatrician and I defaulted to him. I don't remember his reasoning but I will ask him for you!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@agold: We did not bank, but I believe its free to donate. Its so expensive because they have to store it for your child's life span!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Silva: I would really appreciate knowing his opinion! I'm a sucker for sad stories and the cord blood pamphlets are filled with them! So I want the real scoop.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@agold: I dont know, I didn't look into it that closely. I would imagine there are payment options.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: I imagined it as one large payment up front and then recurring storage costs thereafter. But how large of a payment? I can't find it online and I don't really feel like calling the numbers in the pamphlets because it looks like its going to be a big sales spiel.
