@agold: i think you have to pay a monthly fee for storage.
he says its been awhile since he researched it, but his recollection is that it is pricey and the science isn't really there to support it yet. Of course, that doesn't mean it won't be more useful someday.
You do have to choose between clamping and cutting the cord in order to harvest the cord blood, or delaying that- and there is some interesting research showing the benefits of delayed cord cutting.
I was looking for the AAPs statement and found this helpful article which covers some of the research: https://www.scienceandsensibility.org/tag/american-academy-of-pediatrics-position-on-cord-blood-banking/
This is the AAPs official article on it: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/119/1/165.full
They do not recommend private storage, stating that most issues that might be helped by cord blood would already be present in the cord blood, thus precluding its usefulness in treating those issues:
"Cord blood donation should be discouraged when cord blood stored in a bank is to be directed for later personal or family use, because most conditions that might be helped by cord blood stem cells already exist in the infant’s cord blood (ie, premalignant changes in stem cells). Physicians should be aware of the unsubstantiated claims of private cord blood banks made to future parents that promise to insure infants or family members against serious illnesses in the future by use of the stem cells contained in cord blood. Although not standard of care, directed cord blood banking should be encouraged when there is knowledge of a full sibling in the family with a medical condition (malignant or genetic) that could potentially benefit from cord blood transplantation."

@ShootingStar: I like that idea - a fb group when our babies are being born so we can share pics and stuff. For now we can just leave things as they are.
my dad told me today he's ready for me to have a second baby! "I'm not getting any younger over here!" Haha I can't wait to tell them this weekend!

The ultrasound didn't go well today. The baby stopped growing at 9w 5d (I would have been 11 weeks today). There wasn't a heartbeat. It was really hard to see and I wasn't preparing for that since my pregnancy symptoms are still strong. I was alone. Ugh, I could barely make it home from crying so hard. Luckily my husband came home from work early. I'll have a D&C next week.
I'm wishing you all healthy and happy pregnancies and I'll probably follow along.

I just had an ultrasound this morning! The baby was moving all around and we saw both legs and both arms. My husband thinks he saw a little manhood, too! Baby measured at 11w1d which is just about on track. I only have one more week of PIO shots thank God. One last appointment with the RE next week and I'm a graduated IVFer! Phew.

@agold: awesome!!!!
Has anyone here gotten sick with a cold/virus so far? I either have that, or light food poisoning. Last night I ate some quiche that I think might have been bad, was up all night with nausea, and then threw it all up at 6am. Now I have body aches and chills but no fever. My OB says just stick it out and as long as I don't have a fever or more GI problems, there's nothing to do. She thinks I likely just have a virus. But it's freaking me out. I haven't vomited once yet from m/s. If you were sick, did you just ride it out and not worry?

@LCTBQE: I always heard unless you get to the point of needing to go to the hospital, there isn't much way to harm the baby from vomiting.

@LCTBQE: I got the stomach flu in December when I was 6w along. I just tried to stay as hydrated as I could. I also had the chills and aches. It didn't seem to cause any problems at our first US a month later where everything was fine!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@LCTBQE: So sorry you're sick! I would think you'd be fine to rest at home unless you get to the point of being super dehydrated, if you're not able to keep anything down. I hope you start feeling better soon!
pear / 1718 posts
@LCTBQE: I've had a cold the last couple of weeks, and everything has been fine. The first couple of days were the toughest, hands down. I hope you are able to rest and relax, and that you feel better soon! Eta: I would keep an eye on your temp and fluid intake. And don't hesitate to call your OB. Always better to call than to worry.
CVS went well this morning. Doc said baby looked perfect. HR was 155-164. I should have prelim results in a couple of days (including the sex!), and full results in about a week.

@coopsmama: @pregnantbee: @Pirouette: @LCTBQE: Thanks, girls. It is such a relief finally. I finally felt excited during the actual appointment.
@LCTBQE: I'm so sorry you are feeling sick. Just so you know, my girlfriend got food poising and threw up so badly to the point she was hemorrhaging blood. Her baby was still a healthy 10+ pounder with no problems from her vomiting.

@pwnstar: EEK! I'm so glad it went well and that things looked good. Can't wait to find out what you're having!

The first one I have on there for the 10th is my final u/s with my RE. The next two are with my regular ob and I think those might be some of the functional ultrasounds. Although I'm not sure!
