I am enjoying my root beer now and it's the best thing ever! My kids were thrilled with the little jaunt out, too, because they rarely get French fries and I couldn't resist the opportunity to spoil them.

@Pirouette: It went away at 24 weeks with my first and 15 weeks with my second.

@pwnstar: Thanks so much for being happy for me about the lack of sickness! It is like a fog is lifted. I was getting so depressed by being sick every single minute of every day. Feel like myself again - finally!

@coopsmama: I'm glad you're enjoying your root beer and fries! DH has tacos planned for dinner and while that usually sounds great, it sounds terrible for tonight. I can't tell him though because he will ask what I want instead and I can't come up with anything better
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@T.H.O.U.: I hate that. It is so hard when absolutely nothing sounds good and yet you know you need to eat...something. I've cried now and again this pregnancy because of that. Ugh. Hope you can figure out something that sounds remotely good - or figure out how to make the tacos palatable.
I haven't been able to do ground beef at all really this pregnancy so tacos would be out for me, too.

@ShootingStar: @agold: I went from an RE to a midwife practice. There's an expectation of wellbeing, so no news is good news, but coming from an RE where I heard back about every drop of blood, pee, etc....it's been challenging to say the least!

@Pirouette: I am going to miss being on the same schedule, too! I currently have an appointment on February 25th, but I don't know if its for an ultrasound or something else.
If you have an OB appointment, and its not for an ultrasound, what else could happen at the appointment?
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: The non-ultrasound appointments are really boring. You give a urine sample, and they check for protein, they physically measure your stomach to see if baby is growing correctly, listen to the heartbeat, check your weight gain, go over any questions you have.
ETA: At least in my experience they are boring Can't speak for everyone.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: Good to know. But I like to hear ALL news! I literally want a call every week saying "you and your baby are great!"
@pregnantbee: I suppose hearing the heartbeat is nice. And there's no stomach to measure yet for me. So I suppose I can expect to pee and get weighed! But I do always hate getting weighed at the doctors office, at like 3 pm, after I've eating the bulk of anything I'll eat for the day.
Does anyone have an at-home doppler? (I know a few of you do.) I was thinking of getting one.. But how long does it take to find the heart beat? I think if it took me more than 10 seconds to find the heart beat, I might panic so I'm really thinking of not getting one.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@agold: Yea it can take some patience and time to find it. Also, in a few weeks you will start feeling movement and wont need the doppler anyways (or baby will move so much its hard to hear).
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Thanks. That is good to know and makes me feel better about not getting one.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@agold: i wouldn't know, because I'm very lucky that my OB does an U/S at every appt! so it's pee, blood pressure, weight and then a quick U/S. She never measures my belly or uses the doppler though, since the U/S made those unnecessary. OB appts are super short, unless you have lots of questions.
kiwi / 595 posts
@agold: since I see midwives, most of my appts are non u/s appts. I only have two throughout, unless there's a reason for it. My appts are b/p check, weight check, measuring the belly, listening to heartbeat and lots of conversation about well being (nutrition, activity, etc).

@pregnantbee: See, that's what I need to ask on Monday. I had the NT US then they took blood for the Panorama (which came back low fetal DNA) there was no other bloodwork for the NT unless they do something at the 16w next week.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@mrschickpea: Back when I was all dialed in to this OB stuff (before my insurance made me switch doctors), I had two blood tests drawn on Feb. 2 - one was for the NT scan, and one was the extra genetics test I paid out of pocket for. It was my understanding that the blood test I did on the 2nd was going to be used with the NT scan I had scheduled for the 18th. <---- Take this all with a grain of salt because I'm quickly learning that I'm a really clueless pregnant person.
clementine / 928 posts
@Pirouette: not finding out the sex! I just don't think we got initial NT bloodwork with the U/S, just blood taken for Panorama. I'll have to check the online portal for my OB, maybe they did do a blood vial for the regular NT bloodwork. She did say I was low risk when she told me the Panorama came back with no results. I'm just not sure whether to try it again this late or just move along and get to the A/S.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: I almost feel like OB appointments will be pointless without an ultrasound or hearing the heart. I would rather chat about weight and nutrition through email or text. Although, I suppose blood pressure check is important too.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@mrschickpea: I never know how many blood vials I give because I never ever look at what's being done to my arm when there's a needle in it!!
clementine / 928 posts
@agold: that makes sense! I had a ton of blood drawn at my 8w and two vials at my 12w (which I thought were for Panorama). I totally not up to par on all these tests and bloodwork either lol. I think you may be right though!

@agold: I'm certainly in the minority, especially on these boards, but there's evidence that u/s aren't as harmless as we assume. And it's a risk I'd rather not take lightly. Of course, if I had a concern or was high risk, I would take every u/s I could. But I hear the heartbeat at every appt!

@coopsmama: frrriiieeeeesssssssss. My mouth waters when anyone mentions these golden delicacies. Cannot. Help it. So jealous right now because I can't leave the house since I'm roasting an entire pork shoulder in the oven (for 10 hours )

@OldpuebloJenn: Yep, you are right. Thanks so much for the perspective!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@mrschickpea: ah, sorry, i misunderstood! I thought you meant that the panorama test came back low risk but they couldnt tell sex because of fetal dna, so i thought you were just asking about redoing it to find out sex! If the nt scan came back low risk, i probably wouldn't redo panorama again. But definitely ask the doc! Did they charge you for the first test despite no results?
clementine / 928 posts
@Pirouette: no, I think they said that there would be no charge but maybe that would be if we tried it again? At least I haven't received am actual bill yet, just a info packet from the lab that does the Panorama. I'll have to confirm Monday! They also said that DH could come with and they would mouth swab him too just in case but he can't get off work next week I imagine if they aren't going to charge us for the first one, we won't re-do.

On the bright side, I found out in my meeting that I'm getting a promotion. On the down side, I'm sick again. I don't know if it's the reflux or something I ate but I'm dying. And still at work. Ugh.

@OldpuebloJenn: What is the theory about negative impacts of too many u/s? Just curious.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Yay promotion! Boo sick. I'm sorry -- I hope you feel better soon.

@OldpuebloJenn: IDK I think the "evidence" is pretty overrated. Of course, ultrasounds should only be performed by professionals, but many studies show them to be perfectly safe.
As someone with a high risk pregnancy I had to have many ultrasounds to monitor the health of my baby. Some of us don't have a choice in these matters, so it's frustrating to hear myths spread from pseudo scientists that imply routine medical care can endanger our babies. My son is perfectly fine, and I anticipate my daughter will be too.
cantaloupe / 6017 posts
@MrsSCB: congratulations on the promotion! I hope you feel better soon!
@T.H.O.U.: I'm really struggling with absolutely nothing seeming appealing. I'm not repulsed by it, usually- but nothing seems worth the effort. I'm kind of "meh" about almost everything. Unless it's from a resturaunt. Ordering off a menu and having other people cook is just about all I want to do.
kiwi / 595 posts
@ShootingStar: my intent was never to offend. I didn't spread any myths from pseudo scientists, the information I've read comes directly from the American board of ultrasound medicine. My understanding is that for me, who has been, lucky, with two low risk pregnancies, that I don't need more than two u/s. Although with my first I had more due to placenta previa. Whatever anyone else chooses, or needs for their pregnancy is no concern of mine, and I certainly understand why some providers offer them at every visit.
To me, the risks, or lack of risks are not conclusive to support a non medically necessary u/s. My friend, who is pregnant and deals with high anxiety requests one every visit from her provider, and I would never fault her that, nor anyone that deems is right for them.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@pregnantbee: @Silva: thanks ladies. And it definitely appears to be food poisoning or a stomach bug
At what point do you call the doc? I've been getting sick about every 15 min for a few hours now, even though there's obviously nothing left in my stomach. Ugh.
pear / 1718 posts
@MrsSCB: A promotion!!! How awesome and GO YOU! I am so sorry you're sick. If it were me, I would go ahead and call the on call OB/nurse line and tell them what's going on. They'll probably want to make sure you don't get dehydrated. That sounds so miserable. I hope you feel better soon!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: @ShootingStar: agree with both of you. I think there is some solid recommendations to not get medically unnecessary exposure to ultrasounds. I think just like anti depression meds, they are safe if needed but it doesn't mean people should just take them for fun. I think every pregnant woman and mother has to decide their list of risks versus rewards and hopefully does so well informed.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@MrsSCB: congrats on your promotion!!! I hope you feel better
@ShootingStar: I agree, and I think some of the recommendations are to scare people from going to elective places every week or whatever. I absolutely agree they should be performed only by medical professionals. I was also high risk and will require constant ultrasounds this time as well so I trust the doctors that that's the right way to proceed.
that said, @OldpuebloJenn: I didn't find your comment offensive or judgmental at all. My comment that I'm lucky my ob does so many ultrasounds was probably a little flippant from your perspective but I'm totally comfortable with my doctors approach, and it turns out it enabled us to catch my daughter's slowing growth earlier, so there's that. If I wanted a less invasive approach, I'm fortunate to live in a city with options for everyone!

All this talk about movement is so exciting--so the ladies who have started feeling it are around 15-ish weeks now, is that right?
@Pirouette: SO glad you had a great N/T, that's wonderful. can't wait to hear good panorama results (and gender!) xx
@MrsSCB: Congratulations on the promotion that will last longer than the sickness, yeouch. Sorry you're so ill. BTW, my mom has terrible reflux and she takes over the counter generic of Famotidine (20mg). I have *no* idea if that's safe during pregnancy, but I know for her it's very effective. Sounds like a different story than a stomach virus or whatever it is you have right now, though. hope you're feeling better soon, lady
can you keep gatorade down?
@Silva: can you waste some money on takeout for a few days?
