@pwnstar: well. I had a massive amount of fluid leak this morning while I was jumping rope at the gym. It didn't smell like anything but I'm going to assume it was pee because I think i'm too early for fluid to leak, right? It would be blood if something was wrong? I'm going to just drink a ton of water today and hope the cramps don't come back, but I definitely freaked myself out.

@JoJoGirl: Chances are it was pee. So awesome, right?! The first indication would be the smell. Amniotic fluid has no smell . . . even diluted urine will have a slight smell. And a fluid leak will continue over time. Eta: so once you empty your bladder, the leaking will continue (you could wear a pad to monitor it if you wanted to). BUT. If you are in any way unsure, go get checked out. There is a swab test they can do to detect amniotic fluid. It's a simple test, and you will also likely get the hear the HB.

@pwnstar: There wasn't any smell, which is why I got nervous. but I went to pee after it happened and it stopped happening, so I assumed it was just pee? It's been fine since then and yeah it would keep leaking over time. So going to just try not to worry I really don't want to call - I had this happen once with my first pregnancy and they made me stay for HOURS monitoring potential contractions and whatnot and sent me home saying to drink more water. So I'm going to drink more water and assume if there's no more leakage, it's okay

@JoJoGirl: That's a good plan! With my first, I had a slow leak over time (lack of fluid was one of the reasons I was induced). But when the tests were negative the first time (at 30 weeks), I chalked the wetness up to pee/swamp crotch because it was the hottest summer ever(!) and I was a swollen sweaty mess! I'm sorry you're dealing with this! It's so stressful. Makes me want to give you a big hug and shuttle water to you while you rest with your feet up!

@pwnstar: Aww you're the best!! If by "rest" you mean "sit in my cubicle and work", ha ha. I still feel a little off today but no more leaking since this am so trying to relax!

@JoJoGirl: Ha! Work. *sigh* I'm trying so hard not to work but these damn deadlines keep popping up and I don't want to malpractice, so hi ho, hi ho!

@JoJoGirl: I also have spurts of lots of watery discharge.

@pregnantbee: @pwnstar: @LCTBQE: Thanks for backing me up on this one! I felt it was such a rude question that I replied back quite harshly myself - "oh no, I knew, I just didn't feel it was anyone's business until I felt ready to tell them" and I am kicking myself for being rude as this is someone I see on a regular (multiple times a week) basis. Sighhhhh. You just can't win.

@JoJoGirl: This is the point in pregnancy with all 3 of mine where I have had an upswing in fluids like that. I'm sure you're just fine!

  9. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@coopsmama: I wouldn't call that rude, I would call that straightforward. She's the one who should be embarrassed.

@JoJoGirl: Oh, that would totally freak me out. It sounds like you are fine though! As others have mentioned, I've had a LOT of random gushes of watery discharge, so it could have been that too. But my money is on pee. So glamorous

So my aching/cramping feeling continued last night. The heating pad on my low back took it away completely, but then when I turned it off to go to bed I noticed it again. I've been constipated (again, glamorous), so I think some of it was discomfort from that. But I basically went to be last night 40% sure I was having contractions. I basically convinced myself to go to sleep because I figured if someone was really wrong, it would wake me up. If it was fine, I'd just sleep it off.
Sure enough, feeling much better today with no cramping or aching! So glad that is over. and 16 weeks today!

@coopsmama: Yeah, thats a super weird comment on her part. And it doesn't sound like you were rude, just straight forward. And that is a good thing!

@Silva: Glad you're feeling better. Are you taking stool softener or anything? My OB said even if I have to take them daily they are safe.

@T.H.O.U.: i haven't been. but i think i'm going to start trying a fiber supplement. TMI but there was blood today. ughhhhhh.

Oh wow, thanks for all the reassurance!!! I really appreciate it - these are the glamorous parts of pregnancy nobody talks about I'm familiar with the more mucousy type of discharge but not so much watery, so super appreciate everyone's reassurance!

  15. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Silva: Right there with you I'm definitely having cramps and lower back aches today which is not helping with the fluid fears. I think this must be normal for this stage? I can't remember from my first!

  16. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@JoJoGirl: Everyone I've talked to says its all way worse the second time around. My friend said her round ligament pain started super early, like 14 weeks, and was awful. And the on-call nurse I spoke with yesterday said that unless it feels like actual contractions, or is accompanied by other symptoms (bleeding, UTI symptoms, etc), its probably just stretching and growing.
The heating pad on my back was amazing. Highly recommend. I tried a bath, but I just can't deal with not-hot baths so it didn't feel good to me.

@Silva: I've been in the same boat the last week or so yuck! Also considering fiber supplements. I'm kind of hoping it's partly due to not eating very balanced when I was sick last week. Trying to add more fiber-y things to my diet this week to see how that goes. But...yeah. Not pleasant!

@pregnantbee: Duh, sorry I am wishfully thinking today is friday already. Why are you nervous?

  21. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@T.H.O.U.: I keep thinking it's Friday, too. Sloooow week. Anyway, I get nervous before every appointment b/c I'm always afraid suddenly something will be deemed wrong. Like no hb or whatever. I told DH not to come to this one since there's no u/s.....I'll feel silly if I do have him come for such a routine appt, though.

@LCTBQE: Well shoot. I stand in hot showers for like 30 minutes every day!! I suppose I have a few things to tell my doctor about today at my 3:30 appointment!

@coopsmama: I don't think you were rude at all.. Old church ladies sometimes say the dumbest things.

@pwnstar: "Swamp crotch" just made me laugh out loud!

@pregnantbee: I, too, am still so nervous about ultrasounds. I really just hope my baby is okay! And I don't think I'm actually getting an ultrasound today so I told my husband not to come. But he totally shifted his schedule and wants to come! So crazy. I never thought I'd be the girl with a husband coming to every appointment. But it's his own doing.

@agold: SOO exciting! What are you hoping for? What are the pros/cons for you of each sex?

  24. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: WHEEE. Reveal tonight! So exciting. As @T.H.O.U.: asked, do you have any kind of preference? Any guesses now as to what it is?

  25. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: @pregnantbee: I personally don't have a preference. Maybe slightly prefer a girl. I'm very close with my mom and my sister. I'd love to have a little girl. But my husband is very much a guy's guy. He is very athletic and I would love to see him with a little boy. While I know he would want our daughter to learn how to golf, I'd love to see him playing baseball with a little boy. So really... only positives with each option!!

My 4.5 year old niece really wants the baby to be a girl. So I'm hoping for a hilarious reaction from her if the baby is a boy. I'd be so entertained if she cries or throws a fit.

@pregnantbee: I'm also telling my husband not to come to my non-US appointments. I want to feel free to ask whatever weird questions I might have without an audience

@agold: eekk so excited for you!!! haha I should have recorded my daughter's reaction to finding out it was a boy! and btw, my husband came to every appt when i was pregnant with my first, until the end when I had twice a week monitoring, and he came once a week. he didn't want to miss out on a thing! this time, he came to my first ob appt and won't come to any others, only my u/s center appointments, which are every 4 weeks for now until the 3rd tri.

I hope people still post bump pictures here! I'll be posting one soon. My lower stomach is definitely a bump. Is it normal for first time moms to get a lower bump at 14.5 weeks? I am still about 10 pounds below my starting weight, but now I'm worried since I've been eating like bags of M&Ms every day.

  31. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@agold: I have something similar! You can't see much in profile, but if I poke right above my pelvic bone, it feels really firm. And when I lie down flat a little bump sticks out. I think that's probably normal! I'm 15w2d. I wouldn't worry about the M&Ms, haha, I still haven't gained either really, but I have that little low bump!

    Whoops, double posted!

  33. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@agold: Yes! I only had a tiny bump below my belly button when i was 14 weeks with my first. I didn't "look" pregnant til like 20 weeks.

  34. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@JoJoGirl: are you showing sooner this time around? I showed SO late the first time, but am definitely bigger than I was with my first at this time. i also think i'm gaining all over, which i didn't with my first. But mostly because I've been on a "eat everything in sight, no moderation" diet!

I will try to take a gold post bump pic sometime soon

  35. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@JoJoGirl: @MrsSCB: Thanks, girls. And yes! My little lower bump is also really firm! That's how I figured it was a bump and not m&m chub.

  36. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Pirouette: Oh of course!! Everyone shows sooner after their first. My theory is the muscles/tendons/ligaments are already so f-ed up from the first pregnancy, they just wave the white flag immediately. I'm FULL-on bump right now - had my first "congrats!!" at work today - and I'm barely 3 months pregnant. I look 6!

  37. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@JoJoGirl: haha it's crazy how that works! Right now, i think my boobs are still giving me away, but i just look wide all over. I definitely have a little bump starting but it's not noticeable over my clothes so much as i just look like i ate a million cheeseburgers. I'm ready for full on bump mode. although I should probably tell work first, if they haven't already figured it out!

So....... a bit TMI... but are anyone else's lady bits feeling a bit sore and swollen? I do not remember this until WAY later in my last pregnancies.

@JoJoGirl: Hey now, you're almost *4* months pregnant!

People keep randomly stopping by my office to congratulate me. Which is nice! But. I haven't told any of these folks that I am pregnant! So. I wonder who is . . . ?! Lol. And *sigh.*
