@WALLAROO: Happy Halloween!!!! I'm sorry about your rings! I am dreading the moment I can't wear mine anymore! Currently (at 25w) they still fit, so I'm hoping that doesn't change!

@Mrs. Lantern: Such a cute costume!!!!! I'll be planning my glucose test when I have my doc appt on Friday. Not really looking fwd to it!

@ladyfingers: Seriously. I get heartburn EVERY SINGLE DAY that I'm a work. I'm typically fine at home. I wonder if it's from sitting up all day (as opposed to laying in bed doing nothing at home!) Lol. Maybe I should stay in bed until Feb?

Ok, so this is my first time posting pics on HelloBee so I hope I do it right! Here's the nursery thus far (and the inspiration board I made)....DH and I wanted something cool, bright, modern, and fun. What do you think?

@ValentineMommy: I love it! That is so fun! Here are some of ours so far.

@ValentineMommy: That's definitely cool, bright, modern and fun! And gender neutral! The stripes are really cool, how did you do that?

  7. ValentineMommy

    pomelo / 5791 posts

@ladyfingers: LOVE it! I love the reading wall and especially looooove the navy glider, it looks super comfy!!

@tororojo: Thank you! We didn't want the room to scream "Boy!" or be sports themed or anything like that....it's just not our thing! The stripes took a painstaking amount of time, labor, tears, and painters tape. Did I mention tears? Lol The crib will go in the middle of the stripes on that main wall.

@ValentineMommy: It is the most comfortable chair I have every sat in! And I agree, your stripes are AWESOME!

happy halloween everyone! we're not giving out candy because we live in a neighborhood of old people, so we're going crib shopping with the in-laws instead. love your costume, @Mrs. Lantern -- so cute! anyone else dressing up?

i have my glucose test on the 7th, and then we go back to get the results on the 14th. i'm a little nervous, but i'm really excited for my appointment on the 14th, because we finally get to talk to the OB about the VCI.

@ValentineMommy: that nursery is awesome. so unique, bright, and fun. i don't think i'd have the patience to paint those stripes, so hurray for you! those colors are great... so non-traditional, and i love that.

@ladyfingers: derek's nursery is looking so great! i see you found a rug... it's perfect. did you build the book shelves? we're having a baby book themed shower just so i can build a huge wall of books like that! i'm super nervous to build them though.

y'all are putting me to shame. how much have i actually done of the nursery? NONE. so far it's a mostly empty room with an unfinished dresser and boxes piled in the middle. we picked out and bought the crib sheet material (i'm planning on sewing them), and have the colors all picked out. we found an AWESOME, AWESOME mid-century dresser at a consignment shop, and we're painting it hot pink. i'm excited about it in my mind, but i guess better get a move on it!

  10. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@photojane: Thanks! We realized we only have room for one bookshelf, and apparently you can't secure an Expedit to the wall if you have baseboards (unless you do some sort of carpentry hack, which I'm in no way cut out for). So we decided to sell the second bookshelf and just do one running horizontally so it's 2 up and 4 across. Which means there's not much room for books, just the top 4 cubbies (we bought containers for 4 cubbies to hide his toys, blankets, etc.). So basically the book wall is it! Which is fine because I'm sure he'll have tons of books but I don't want to overwhelm him so I'll probably just switch them out over time.

Don't worry about your nursery! it sounds like you're doing a lot of DIY stuff so go easy on yourself! It'll be awesome!

ETA I just realized you were asking about the existing book shelves lol. They're Ribba picture ledges from IKEA!

@ValentineMommy: Love the nursery and the stripe. Such a cool idea!

@ladyfingers: Yay! It's starting to come together. I love the bookshelves.

@Mrs. Lantern: Love the costume. So cute. I have my Glucose test scheduled for 11/15. I will be just shy of 28 weeks.

@photojane: That hot pink dresser sounds awesome!

@ValentineMommy: Omg love the stripes! Super creative!

@ladyfingers: i can't believe you have so much done already! I'm with @photojane - our room's not even empty yet! Hopefully soon we will get our acts together... We've had a lot going on...

Sooo unfortunately we were in the path of Sandy. Our power has been out since Monday night. We've been staying at my parents who didn't lose power. Our house was damaged in the storm and may need to be completely resided but it could have been worse. There were a lot of people who lost everything. It's very sad watching the news and seeing the shore points where we vacationed that were destroyed.

Here's a pic of the back of my house and on a lighter note my outfit that I wore to work today for Halloween...

@Phillybaby2013: I'm so glad to hear that you and your DH are safe but I'm sorry to hear that Sandy did some damage to your house. Love the shirt. I wanted to get the twins version but I kept putting it off and then forgot.

Hey! We *just* got our power back so I am giddy with excitement. Some people here have a lot of damage from Sandy so we are relatively lucky even though it is sad to see lots of landmarks and beachclubs destroyed.. I am especially happy because I am supposed to have my glucose test next week (if my dr. offices have power!) and it is so hard not to eat junk food (and halloween candy) when you're bored in the dark! Back on track tomorrow!

    pomelo / 5791 posts

@ladyfingers: Thank you!! We just got our glider set up yesterday and I've already sat in it for awhile - it's so comfy!

@photojane: Thank you! It took a lot out of me, trust me...and a good two weeks to paint. I'm SO glad it's over, because there's no way i'd have the patience for that when I get bigger.

    @WALLAROO: Thank you!

@Phillybaby2013: Thanks!!! Love the shirt - so cute! I'm so sorry about the damage from Sandy - we were lucky we didn't get anything, but our neighbor had a huge tree fall on their house (which is what I was afraid of!)... that storm seriously made me consider cutting down our two huge sycamore trees. They scare me now!

@JerricaBenton: Good luck with your test!!! I don't know HOW you're staying away from all the candy!!!! How long do you have to stay away from it? I'm sure my test is coming up soon, and I haven't been good about it at all.....

Oh, and here's a bump pic from yesterday!

  17. JessiBee

    kiwi / 733 posts

@photojane: My nursery is about where yours is! It's empty of furniture, with a pile of painting supplies in the middle. We have bought nothing at all for the baby. We think we know which crib we want, but have yet to see it in person or order it. I guess we'll get there soon enough, right?!

@Phillybaby2013: I'm glad you guys are okay, and hope you can get your house fixed up and powered up soon!

My glucose test isn't until the end of November, right after Thanksgiving weekend. I asked about prep/what to do/eat before it, and my doc said to stick with whatever I usually eat. I pointed out that it was right after Thanksgiving, so there was nothing "usual" there, and she laughed, and said not to worry about it. So...aiming for that attitude: trying not to worry about it!

I apparently gained 8 pounds in the last month, which makes me unhappy and nervous. I did have giant boots on for my weigh-in this month, so I'll attribute a couple of pounds to those, but it still makes me worried that I'm going to pack on a LOT. I'm a little person--about 120 before pregnancy, and I've never been one to have to worry about weight before. I know my body will put on what the baby needs, but . . . it's a lot of weight, and I've never seen numbers like that on the scale, and I'm stressing about my body in a way I never have before. Ugh. Just needed to vent.

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@Phillybaby2013: I'm glad you guys are safe but that sucks about your house! My husband is from Massapequa Park (Long Island) and he said a lot of his high school friends' parents' houses were destroyed from flooding. He's really sad about it. Your costume is adorable though! Also, re: the nursery, I'm a total overachiever and am actually kind of embarrassed that we have so much done lol. I just can't stand sitting around waiting to do stuff, and I wanted to get it done by 30 weeks (arbitrarily) because I'm huffing and puffing as is, much less when I get bigger!

    @ValentineMommy: Love the bump!

@JessiBee: I have gained a lot of weight quickly as well. Last month I gained 8 pounds. I don't even know what it will be this time around. I hate that I'm always in the doctor's office at different times so it's not even the most accurate -- at least that's what I'm telling myself. I've already gained 20+ pounds and I'm not even in the third trimester yet! Guess I'm giving in to so many cravings...

So I finished our mobile last night, and I need honest opinions. I was modeling it off one that I loved on Etsy but didn't want to pay $50. There are some differences, and what I'm thinking might help is on every other strand, adding a colored disc near the top, above the first baseball, so the baseballs are staggered and some strands are longer than others. I think it looks crooked and sad and skimpy, but DH loves it. Thoughts? I don't want to take it completely down (hanging it was a BITCH), but I can take down individual strands by loosening the jump rings, and working on it some more that way.

@ValentineMommy: Your nursery looks great! Thanks - I definitely had a bit of candy but I tried not to go overboard. I don't think you have to do anything special but I wouldn't load up on carbs the day before the test. I go to an endocrinologist for my thyroid and she gave me a blood sugar monitor just to have an idea and my levels have been fine, but the few times I've experimented by testing after a bingefest my level was high.

  20. WALLAROO

    kiwi / 711 posts

@JerricaBenton: Glad to hear you guys got your power back.

@JESSIBEE: I definitely can understand where you are coming from when it comes to the weight gain. I was about 119 and in the best shape I had been right before pregnancy. Once I became pregnant I had to completely change my mindset and realize that this weight gain was for a purpose - to help our babies grow as much as possible. I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone =)

@ladyfingers: Cute mobile but I think I like your idea of adding an extra disc on every other strand so that you have some longer strands.

    @ValentineMommy: Good looking bump!

  21. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@WALLAROO: The other idea my friend had was adding a strand of just colored discs (alternating color on the strand) between the baseball strands. So there would be three on each "side." I'm not sure what would look bets -- thickening it up, or lengthening some strands.

  22. WALLAROO

    kiwi / 711 posts

@ladyfingers: That could look good too but for some reason I just like the idea of different length strands as well. So maybe strands of colored discs that are longer than the baseball strands?

    @WALLAROO: Thanks! We're very thankful.

@ladyfingers: is the mobile hanging over the changing pad or what? i actually think it's really cute the way it is, but i would definitely lower it.

you guys inspired me to at least get an inspiration board together for my nursery! we aren't painting until veteran's day weekend, and we won't begin decorating until after we're done painting, but i have lots of ideas already.

the cute owl/butterfly pattern at the top left is our crib bedding, which we're using for the color scheme. that's our actual dresser, but i "painted" it pink in photoshop -- i'm hoping the paint job looks better in real life.

@photojane: That's super cute! I love all the bright colors.

  26. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@photojane: Yes, that's where the changing pad will go. I guess I could lower it, I can't really unaffix it from the ceiling (I used very very sticky picture hanging tape to get it there and it will pull off the ceiling paint at this point) but I guess I could cut the strings attached to the mobile and add shorter strings to lower it. I didn't want it to be too low because I didn't want to constantly be bumping into it while changing him.

  27. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

    @tororojo: thanks! i'm excited!

@ladyfingers: i only say that because it takes babies several months to be able to focus on things at that sort of distance. he may not be able to enjoy it if it's too high. i plan on hanging my mobile above the changing pad too -- we'll see if my diy turns out as awesome as yours (i doubt it)!

  28. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

Ok I know this is totally frivolous. But I added onto the mobile a bit - I like it so much better now!

Also @photojane I love your mood board and the pink dresser! So that's the actual dresser but photoshopped pink? What a great piece, great lines! It will be such a fun room.

  29. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@ladyfingers: love the new and improved mobile. I liked it before, but I think that little fix made a big difference. and, yep... that's my photoshopped dresser. I found it in perfect condition at a consignment shop for $80. I found its brother on an online antiques dealer's website for $400 (in much worse condition), so I got a really good deal!

@photojane: It's beautiful! I love finding furniture and transforming it with paint. I have a half-painted hand me down dresser in our closet that I have plans to someday tackle with chalk paint (not chalkboard paint) and dark stain on the ornate edges. But man I just don't have the energy for it these days! I can't wait to see how yours turns out.

@WALLAROO: @ladyfingers: I'm sorry to hear about your rings! I am not looking forward to that day

@ValentineMommy: looks great! I would have had tears doing that as well, kudos to you!

@ladyfingers: perfect lil boy nursery! I love your hardwoods with the all of the colors you have chosen.

@photojane: wonderful inspiration board - I'm sure the real thing will turn out beautifully.

I'm not sure if someone has already asked this, what week does the glucose test usually occur?

We started out HynoBirthing class on Thursday, it was fantastic. Our instructor is great, very informative and animated. I'm hopeful that I will learn a lot from the course, be able to put the coping mechanisms to use and be successful in a natural birth

@lolabee: I love that ceiling! I'm getting the lab script for my gd test on Monday, I'll be 27 weeks. I think it's typically 28ish weeks for the one-hour test, then you do the 3-hour test if you fail that one. Since we start going every other week at this point I would assume 3-hour test if you need it is around 29/30 weeks?

  33. WALLAROO

@photojane: That is such a cute inspiration board. I love the color scheme

@ladyfingers: Love the changes you made to the mobile. Are you happy with it?

@lolabee: Wow that ceiling looks amazing. How long did it take to do it? I am taking my 1 hr glucose test on 11/15. I will be almost 28 weeks.

I went to my first prenatal yoga class on Saturday and it was great. I'm looking forward to my next one. I also went over to my girlfriend's house to taste test some desserts she wants to make for the shower in two weeks. She made some pumpkin pie pops that were so cute and delicious! I can't wait for the shower.

@ladyfingers: Thank you! I am really happy with how it turned out. Thanks for the info on the glucose testing.

@WALLAROO: we jumped ship on doing it ourselves and hired a painter. My DH despises painting, I didn't want to have a melt down trying to map it out and then have my arms above my head for hours! The painter had it done in a day.

Pumpkin pie pops sound absolutely delicious! Glad you're enjoying the yoga.

Ah! I have a lot to catch up on.......

    @ValentineMommy: Looking great lady!

@JessiBee: You're not alone. I've been stressing about the weight thing too. It's so hard although I'm on the other end of the spectrum of you starting out overweight. My doctor wanted me to try to keep my weight gain to 15 lbs for the entire pregnancy. I already passed that and I feel so much pressure to not gain anymore even though my doctor hasn't mentioned it yet. I'm not eating terrible but not the best I could be either I guess - I'm just hungry!....Try to remember it's for baby and I'm sure you'll bounce back in no time.

@ladyfingers: i LOVE your mobile!! Especially the redo that you did. Your room is certainly coming along! I need to steal some of your overachiever-ness. Haha.

@photojane: judging by your idea board the nursery is gonna be super cute! I'm a color person and I love the shades of blue and pink you picked. They really compliment each other in a fun way. And the bedding goes great. Can't wait to see the real deal! Let me know how painting your dresser turns out. We bought our dresser second hand too and were planning on staining it to match the crib but I'm debating if painting it would be easier.

@lolabee: glad your enjoying your hynobirthing class so far! Maybe you can give us some tips as the big day gets closer. ; )
Oh and the ceiling looks awesome. Very modern and fresh. I love that everyone is doing something very different in their nurseries.

I thought I'd share that I had my Glucose Tolerance Test this morning. I want to preface this with my Dr. told me not to fast and gave me no special instructions (or atleast that I could remember). Figuring that I usually feel sick if I don't eat in the morning I ate a protein bar on my way to the lab. When I got there the lab tech told me I shouldn't have eaten and it could skew my results. I was kind of upset and worried that I would fail my test for sure if this was true. I looked it up online while I was waiting for my blood draw and apparently there is A LOT of conflicting info about this. I still don't know what the right answer is just thought I'd mention it....

The stuff itself didn't taste bad at all but it burned a little in my throat each time I took a sip. I had the orange flavor. After a while I started feeling jittery and baby boy went crazy which is to be expected after that much sugar hitting your system. I had my blood taken and went to work. Once I got there I started feeling really yucky and hyped up. I had our department nurse take my blood sugar and it was 54 which is incredibly low. This was about 45 min after they drew my blood at the lab. I immediately ate something and got an OJ so I didn't pass out. I'm hoping since my sugar was that low after such a short amount of time that my original # couldn't have been that high. I'll find out on Monday! Just out of curiosity I had the nurse check my sugar an hour after I ate lunch and it was 109 which is completely normal. I've felt crappy the rest of the day.

Hopefully the rest of you ladies have a good experience and hope we all get good results!!!

  37. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@Phillybaby2013: Thanks for sharing your info! My doctor did tell me I don't need to fast, but if I do eat something, it should be something without sugar, like scrambled eggs. So maybe the nurse was thinking the protein bar had too much sugar?

  38. JessiBee

    kiwi / 733 posts

Interesting! I have my glucose test at my next appointment (after Thanksgiving), so I asked my doctor at my last appointment what to do beforehand. She told me to just eat whatever I usually do: breakfast, snack, whatever. So...I guess that's my plan!

Thank you all for the weight support. I know it's for the baby's good, but I've never had to worry about weight before, so I guess I sort of assumed it would just work itself out where it needs to be. And I kind of know it will, just not necessarily the way I thought/hoped it would. But I'm trying to pay more attention to not just eating when hungry, but trying not to eat any more dessert than usual, trying to keep making good, healthy food choices (but not driving myself crazy), and figuring the rest will take care of itself.

We're finally looking at building our registry, and it's STRESSFUL!! I hate how everything is pink, blue, or green, as if there are no other colors. I like purples! I like yellows, and oranges, and blues (for girls!), and grays, and teals, and lots of other things, but apparently the baby-stuff-makers disagree. Arg.

Also, @ValentineMommy: @lolabee: @photojane: @ladyfingers: I love the nursery updates! We're still in the painting phase (with no real stuff to put in yet after painting), so I'll try and share a photo (my first on HB!) once the painting is done.

  39. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@JessiBee: yes I agree our bodies know best! I was up 6 lbs at my weigh in Monday (since 4 weeks ago) so I've now gained a total of 24 lbs at 27 weeks. That made me so nervous but the doctor just said my blood pressure and weight look perfect and my fundal height is great and his heartbeat is great. So I'm just going with that !

@ladyfingers: I love the changes you made to the mobile - it's adorable!!!

@photojane: I love everything about that nursery. Love love love the colors! I actually almost bought that same glider, but it didn't match our blue as much as I wanted it to. It's super comfy!

@lolabee: omg that ceiling is awesome! I would have probably attempted that myself and realized halfway through that I couldn't do it. It looks amazing, your painter did an awesome job!

@WALLAROO: prenatal yoga sounds awesome! I was really into yoga before being pregnant, and now, I honestly don't want to move. Lol

@Phillybaby2013: Yikes, I am not looking forward to that glucose test, and after hearing your story...I REALLY am not looking fwd to it! Mine is in two weeks and I'm afraid of how it will go with all this candy I've been eating!

@JessiBee: I'm totally with you on the registry stuff. I am not a fan of baby blue (or light green or yellow) for our boy, and there is absolutely nothing we could find that would go with our room. Since we registered at Target and buybuybaby, we ended up having to bite the bullet for all the nursery bedding/changing covers/etc, because the only ones we could find that we liked were from Land of Nod (they have much brighter colors), and I wasn't about to open another registry. You'll find something, keep looking!
