@photojane: @tororojo: He was actually really nice, to be honest! He was the nicest person I've ever had suck my blood lol. He talked to me which made it a lot easier, I really really hate needles with a passion, I get all dizzy and feel like I'm going to pass out, so the distraction was welcomed. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to 4 sticks in 3 hours. How does that even work? Sheesh... at least I can catch up on Downton Abbey while I'm there.
pomelo / 5331 posts
@photojane I was at 140 for the one-hour test! Psssh. I almost passed.
cherry / 144 posts
@ladyfingers - oh nooo... you were so close to passing! boo =( Downton Abbey is AWESOME though... it'll make the time fly by!
I'm actually going in for my GD test in less than an hour. I tried to eat less fruit, juice, and carbs yesterday than I normally would (steak and mushrooms w/ water for dinner), and then this morning I had two eggs scrambled with some mushrooms and tomatoes w/ water for breakfast. We'll see how it goes!
pomelo / 5791 posts
@ladyfingers: Oh no! I'm sorry you didn't pass! Mine is on Monday and I'm really freaking out about not passing. Plus the needle thing....not my fav. What's the normal range? If you're close to it, I would think you'll definitely pass on the three hour at least.
pomelo / 5331 posts
@ValentineMommy: I think it's 65-139. So while it's totally annoying that I was so close to being fine, at least it's reassuring it wasn't like 180 or anything. My friend told me she had to take the 3-hour test with both her kids -- TWICE with the first one, because she screwed up and had a ton of vanilla creamer in her coffee that morning so she begged to be able to take it again. Made me grateful, at least I won't have to take it twice (I HOPE!). Unless I throw up halfway through...
kiwi / 711 posts
@ladyfingers: So close! At least it gives you some reassurance that you weren't way off and as much as the 3 hour test will be annoying at least you should be able to pass. And you know I love me some Downton Abbey
@Emilie: I take my test this afternoon. Good luck with yours!
kiwi / 733 posts
@ladyfingers: Ugh. I'm sorry you have to do the 3-hour, and only by one measly point! But I agree, at least that means you were so close to normal range on the 1-hour that hopefully the 3-hour will be annoying, but come back normal. Best of luck, and we'll all be here waiting to hear stories and results!

@ladyfingers and @wallaroo - thank you! I really hope I pass.
The drink itself was not bad at all. It tasted kind of like orange fanta, and it was cold so it was pretty easy to drink. I did notice that it kind of burned my throat near the very end though... just like one of you girls mentioned As soon as I find out, I'll let you girls know if I passed.

yay! passed the glucose test scored a 100 in a range of 65-139... so glad that's over!!
kiwi / 711 posts
@Emilie: Congrats on passing! That was a quick turnaround. They didn't tell me when they would let me know the results.
I got a quick peek at the twins yesterday. They have not settled in on their position. On 10/26 they were both head down. Yesterday baby girl was breech and baby boy was transverse. I shouldn't be surprised that they totally flipped because I feel them rolling and moving around all the time!
kiwi / 733 posts
@Emilie: yay! Congrats!
@WALLAROO: a little jealous of your quick peek! When do babies settle into position?! I guess I hadn't really thought about it!
I'm 27 weeks today, and feeling a little run down: emotional, tired, achy, but hoping it will pass soon and I can get back to happy and excited (with some little aches and tired on the side), where I have been for most of this crazy journey so far. Happy Friday!
cherry / 144 posts
@jessibee - thanks!! hope you feel better soon - the weekend usually perks me up after a long work week... hope the same works for you!
@wallaroo - so fun that you got to see your twins!! I wasn't sure when I'd know results either, but I got an email this morning saying that my lab results were online so I was able to check right away. I hope you find out your results soon!
pomelo / 5331 posts
@Emilie: Congrats!
@WALLAROO: I love it when that happens... I know people say ultrasounds are bad or whatever, but I really enjoy them
So my 3-hour test wasn't THAT bad. I was so nervous last night I didn't even want to sleep because the sooner I slept, the sooner I had to do it. They were really funny at the lab because they kept saying, you know this is a 3-hour test, right? You know you have to be here for 3-hours? You can't leave. NO REALLY YOU CAN'T.
The drink was a lot worse than the one-hour drink, it has 100 mg of glucose (about twice the amount I think) so it's like pure syrup. I got the fruit punch kind this time and I think it was chilled but really, with it being so syrupy sweet, chilling it doesn't do much. It took me longer to get it down than the one-hour drink. They did one draw right before I drank, then one at one hour after, one at two after, and a final one at three after. I think the tech I had for the first three draws was new because it always hurt when the needle was going in and then for the 3rd draw she dripped blood all over me lol. The last tech was much gentler. Or maybe I was just excited I was done.
I had heard so many stories about people passing out, throwing up, etc. The worst part was waiting -- SO boring and I was too antsy to read (and if I looked at my iPhone screen too long I got nauseous and started to get a headache from not having eaten, etc.) -- being so thirsty and hungry, and the waiting room was FREEZING. Otherwise, I was fine. And then I stuffed my face full of Chipotle. I also am a little sore on the inside of my arms, mostly I think from the bandages. And I feel like a drug addict because I have three visible marks on one arm (still can see the one from Monday's one-hour test) and two on the other!
I hope the fact that the drink barely fazed me isn't bad news! Anyway, that was my experience just in case anybody else has to go through it. I really hyped it up to be so much worse than it was, and now it's over. I should have my results by my Tuesday morning OB appointment.

@ladyfingers: I think the waiting would get to me as well. I couldn't imagine getting my blood drawn so many times. Good luck! Let us know your results.
I passed my glucose test and my iron levels are good too!

I'm gonna do a full respond post but want to do it on my computer.... In the meantime here's some pics from my 3D ultrasound today! It was so amazing... I'm gonna try to upload one of the clips too don't know if it will work...

Hi ladies- haven't been on here in so long! How does everyone feel this week?
@ladyfingers: I can't believe they made you take the 3 hour test! My first pregnancy I also got a 140 but the doc let me pass. He just said to chill on the carbs but since I hadn't gained that much weight he wasn't worried.
@Phillybaby2013: aw, I love your pictures! It makes me look forward to our next u/s in a couple of weeks!
@ValentineMommy: Good luck with the test. I don't know for sure what helped this time but I did have lots of protein at my last meal before the test (dinner), so maybe try that?
Around here...I passed the GD test but the nurse botched up the blood draw and more than a week later I still have a ginormous bruise. We (I) did a ton of shopping this past week since it's our second and we're not having a shower. I think having all the "stuff" in our house makes everything seem more real. And sciatica has hit big time.

Hope all the Feb mamas are doing well! I'm doing my glucose test the week after Thanksgiving. I'm debating whether or not to experiment with a can of coke and testing my blood sugar and hour after. It's just about the right amount of sugar. I hate surprises
So what are you all wearing to your showers if you're having one? I couldn't find anything I liked so I ended up getting a non maternity dress at NY&Co. It has an empire waist so it works - and it was only $30!! I got it in the burgundy color.

congrats to all the ladies that passed their glucose tests!
i had my shower this weekend and it was AWESOME. it was book themed, and turned out so cute. i can't wait to share pictures with y'all. i'm sick for the second time in a month (boooo!), so the uploading/editing will have to wait for now.
so, for the past week i've been having major crotch pain. it came out of nowhere, and won't leave. it's on both sides right where my inner thigh meets my crotch. it feels like i did 1,000,000 squats. sitting is my only relief... laying, standing, and walking kill. i'm thinking it's only going to get worse as she approaches watermelon size. i don't think i can do 12 more weeks of this pain! anyone else experiencing new pain or discomfort?!
@ladyfingers: for what it's worth, the drink barely fazed me either! i didn't feel hyped up, and i didn't crash either. i think you'll definitely pass -- you were so close the first time! i'm glad it wasn't too unbearable for you. update us as soon as you get the results!
@Phillybaby2013: i am so jealous of your 3d ultrasound! i've been dying for one. i've been trying to convince my husband to take me to the elective place, but he wants to be surprised. i just want to see her little face so badly! i'm terrible with surprises. baby boy is so, so cute already!
@Baby Boy Mom: i get you on having the stuff in the house. my in-laws bought and helped us assemble the crib last week, and it's so weird to walk by her room and see it looking more like a nursery. it's getting real!
@JerricaBenton: cute dress! $30 is a great deal. i loved ny&co pre-pregnancy. i haven't been in there in months though. i wore this dress from target with a sweater, tights, and pink patent flats:
pomelo / 5331 posts
@JerricaBenton: I do too! I'm again obsessively checking my practice's patient portal for lab results even though they never posted the first ones. Guess I just need to wait until tomorrow morning *sigh*
@photojane: Glad to hear your shower went well! My friend told me my invites have gone out, so I can stop obsessing about that now
We had our childbirth class this weekend, and it was so interesting! We learned breathing techniques and lots of other stuff I sort of but not really knew about. I'm so glad we took it, even though the 8-hour crash course was way exhausting. Anybody else taking classes?
We also got our car seat! Things are moving... now we just need to install it
pomegranate / 3872 posts
@photojane: Cute outfit! I got a grey dress kinda like that at Gap but it's more casual, like a sweatshirt material.
@ladyfingers: Hope you pass this one!
We signed up for 3 classes: Birth Preparation, Breastfeeding and Infant Care and they are all in December - it's gonna be a busy month! We're doing the all day birth one too, because it worked out better for our schedule. I hope we get some good information!
kiwi / 733 posts
@JerricaBenton: We also signed up for three sets of classes: Labor and Delivery, Breastfeeding, and Bringing Baby Home. Unfortunately, it looks like my husband will be out of town for work for the third one, and I don't want to go without him, but I'm not sure there's another session of it we can do. If it's as "good" as the first session of Labor and Delivery was, though, I'd rather cancel anyway! Session two is tonight...keep your fingers crossed that it's better than last week's!
Congrats to those who passed the glucose tests...and to being done with them! Now that I'm realizing I'm in the third trimester, I guess it's time to get moving on finishing (and making public) our registry and actually getting some things bought and set up! Yikes.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
@JessiBee: I wonder if it's the same program/syllabus that yours was! I hope we get something out of it! Hope yours goes better this time.
Yeah, I can't believe how quickly time is going now! Our nursery is still an office Time to get moving!

Question--does anyone else get mild uterus cramps sometimes? Almost like faint period cramps, but just uncomfortable and not painful. I'm assuming it is probably my uterus stretching (happens maybe 1-2 times a day) and I will bring it up at my appt. next week unless something crazy happens before then. Haven't noticed any stomach tightening so I don't know if it's Braxton Hicks...anyone else? I'm the last Feb. mom (2/28) so I figure you're all at least a little ahead of me and have maybe felt similar things.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
@tororojo: I definitely still feel stretching discomfort and sometimes maybe like, gas pressure? I can definitely tell stuff's all jumbled up in there, haha. It's uncomfortable but not painful, like you said. I don't think I've had any Braxton Hicks either - I don't think anyway. My stomach is always pretty hard though, so if they aren't supposed to be painful maybe I wouldn't feel them?
pomelo / 5791 posts
@Emilie: Congrats on passing your test!
@ladyfingers: Glad the three house test wasn't so bad! At least it's over now! We're taking a class as well, but not childbirthing. I didn't think it was worth it for me since we're having a c-section. We're taking the baby basics class.
@Phillybaby2013: Adorable!!!! We really wanted to have a 3d, but decided to spend the money on a maternity shoot instead. I am really wishing we had done it after seeing yours though!!
@Baby Boy Mom: Ugh, I feel you on the sciatic pain. It's the WORST!
@JerricaBenton: Love your dress! I still haven't picked anything out! I better get on it...my shower is in two weeks!
@photojane: Cute dress! I'm glad you had a great shower! I can't wait for mine!
I had my glucose test this morning. I didn't feel hyper, or crash later. So, that's good. However, I was given the unchilled fruit punch version, and I hate hate HATE fruit punch. So, that was no fun at all. I gulped it down though. I am praying I pass!!
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
@tororojo: i think you're just experiencing tiny contractions. my midwife and ob both talked me about contractions at previous appointments. apparently your uterus contracts throughout your entire life even though you don't feel it most of the time, but is more active during pregnancy & therefore you'll feel it more frequently. the more active you are that day the more contractions you'll have. they just told me to sit and have some water if i was feeling a lot of cramping, tightness, or sharp pains. i'm in all kinds of pain these days though... contractions, sore hips, crotch pain! it's a mess!

@Phillybaby2013: I hope you and DH enjoy your childbirth class and congratulations on passing your glucose test! I don't have any helpful advice on your screenings/scans...our doctor didn't go through our one US with us. Just the briefing we got from the radiologist we ran into, thank goodness for that! Beautiful 3D pics, makes me want one!
@JessiBee: I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with your first class, hopefully you will like your second half!
@photojane: LOL thanks! Being team green is something I knew I always wanted, it definitely is tough at times though since you know the option to find out is there. I am thinking lot about labor and delivery, our HypnoBirthing Class doesn't really give me a choice! Super exciting about your shower, glad you had a great time.
@WALLAROO: Thank you! I think it's SO awesome you are having twins. Can't wait to feel hiccups that I can identify as hiccups! It would be very interesting to see what the pros say about tandem feeding. Congrats on passing your glucose test!
@ladyfingers: I am so sorry to hear that you failed the 1 hour glucose test, after reading further, I can't believe they made you retest at 140! (That being said I am no doctor - what do I know?!) I am really glad you passed your 3 hour and it wasn't too bad. You dealt with it WAY better than I would. I for sure would have been out cold on the floor.
@Emilie: Congrats on passing!
@Baby Boy Mom: Congrats on passing! I am sorry to hear about your sciatica. I went for my first appointment today with a chiropractor who specializes in pregnancy, I think she will be a big help. Will let you know how I feel in a couple days.
@JerricaBenton: Have fun with all of your classes!
@tororojo: I have felt some pains but they feel more similar to RLP. Thinking just another growth spurt?
@ValentineMommy: Glad the test wasn't bad for you, you're giving me hope! Fingers crossed you pass.
I have 2 weeks until my glucose test, I am afraid! LOL Unlike most of everyone else I have been asked to fast and my appointment isn't until 10:40...I don't do well without breakfast and I have a tendency to pass out with blood draws so I'm thinking with the combo of the two I'll be out cold for sure!
I had my first chiropractor appointment today (recommended by my doula & massage therapist, yay!) I think it went really well, I think she'll be very helpful in treating some issues and in turn aid in labor and delivery as well.
Have a great week everyone!
pomelo / 5791 posts
@lolabee: You'll be ok! Tell the nurse you have a tendency to pass out and they should let you lie down. At least, they let me! I almost ALWAYS pass out, and I didn't this time. I'm thinking it was all that sugar!
pomelo / 5331 posts
Well, odds are one of us would have gestational diabetes, and I'm the one. I failed my second and third blood draws at 204 and 155. The doctor's office is working with me to try to scramble and make an appointment in the next couple of days to see a diabetes nurse and get my blood meter. I'm so depressed, because I have no clue what I can eat and I'm assuming that Thanksgiving is going to be pathetic. I'm just basically feeling very sorry for myself. This is my very favorite holiday and now I'm sitting here feeling like a fat loser. My OB commented on my weight gain so far and said I've already gained 30 pounds so this will be a good thing for me. Right, because I'm a fat ass.
Anyway, hope everybody else is feeling better than me today. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

@Phillybaby2013: Thanks for sharing your 3D ultrasound. Amazing! I don't think we will be doing one since we pretty much see the babies every 2 weeks.
@Baby Boy Mom: Having all the stuff in the house is definitely making things feel real. Congrats on passing the Glucose test.
@JerricaBenton: That dress looks great! I wore a greyish/silver and white striped sweatery tunic with leggings and boots.
@photojane: So glad you enjoyed your shower! I have had some crotch type pain when I first get up from sitting for so long. I think it is just the initial weight of my uterus. It does go away after a few steps.
@ladyfingers: We've had our carseats for awhile too but haven't installed it yet. I'm not sure when to do that. When are you guys going to install it?
@tororojo: I get Braxton Hicks but mostly when I first get up from sitting or if I have over exerted myself. As for stretching I feel the babies stretching in there and pushing my stomach out. It is really weird to see my bump go lopsided because one of the babies is pushing out on that side.
@ValentineMommy: I had fruit punch too. It was gross. Sounds like the other ladies had the orange one and it wasn't too bad.
@lolabee: Glad to hear the chiropractor helped! I agree with @ValentineMommy: mention to the nurse that you have the tendency to pass out.
I also had my shower on Saturday. It was great. My friends did such a wonderful job. We felt incredibly loved and can't wait for everyone to meet our babies. I have my first prenatal massage today and I can't wait!

@ladyfingers: Boooo, I'm so sorry! And I'm especially sorry that you got blindsided right before Thanksgiving; that totally sucks. Can you change your eating habits starting on...Friday? I have glanced through some of the GD posts and I think you can still eat lots of yummy stuff, just has to be more protein focused and less carbs. And I guess you have to be a lot more conscious of what goes into your body. But we could probably all stand to be more aware of what we're feeding our babies, no?

@ladyfingers: I'm sorry to hear that you didn't pass and that you had to get the news right before Thanksgiving. I hope that your doctor's office can give you some yummy recipes and meal ideas for the rest of the pregnancy.

@ladyfingers: Aww, I'm sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I've gained 25 pounds according to my ob's scale.
@WALLAROO: Yea, I definitely don't want to have to drink the fruit punch again. Ew. That's awesome you had your shower - I can't wait for mine!!! AND a massage?? You're a lucky lady!
pomelo / 5331 posts
@ValentineMommy: I hear people all the time tell me they gained 50, 60, 70 pounds in pregnancy so honestly, I felt on track with the bulk of the population. Every doctor appointment I'd been going to they'd been telling me my weight was perfect. So I know they weren't trying to, but I felt like I was being berated. Like I'm a fat failure who's endangering my baby. But it's just my mood after having gotten the diagnosis and some other stuff that's going on.
@WALLAROO: I'm not sure when we're installing it, just the next free weekend day we can get! Maybe this Saturday or Sunday? They stressed at our hospital tour and our childbirth class to install it now rather than later just in case, so we should definitely get on it! Your shower sounds great too
@tororojo: I've gotten mild cramps the whole time, but I usually feel an urgency after so I can identify them as gas cramps. Usually my round ligament pains will feel like cramps in the side, gas cramps are like cramps along the bottom and through the front. My doctor did say a while back that as the uterus grows, it has to contract, so that may also be what's going on. I've heard labor contractions described as starting in the back and wrapping around the front, like a squeezing sensation. It sounds like what you're experiencing is normal for this time!

@jerricabenton: Love that one! I just got a dress from Motherhood but was thinking more for our "baby moon" that is still tbd. They didn't have that many cute styles though.
@photojane: Love that dress! So true about the crib...we already have one obviously, but walking in with a double stroller was like whoa! I can't believe I'm going to be pushing around this monster in three months!
@ladyfingers: No class for us but I am reading way more books about labor than I did the first time around. In a strange way I feel like I'm preparing for my first all over again. Sorry to hear about the GD!!! I think the diets usually end up emphasizing lots of protein, so at least there's turkey?
@lolabee: Definitely interested to hear how it goes with the chiropracotr. Although I know it is way better on days I don't carry my toddler too much, so I probably need to just be better about that!
pomelo / 5331 posts
@Baby Boy Mom: True, and it sounds like, from what other people have said, that I can still indulge a little bit but can't go crazy and have to just balance what I'm eating more. So maybe one sliver of French silk pie on Thursday a few hours after dinner, instead of a huge piece right after and another huge piece later that night Walking should help keep it under control as well.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@ladyfingers: Ya, sounds like a plan! FWIW at least you get to taste pie. We're "skipping" Thanksgiving since it's just us and a huge PITA to get the right ingredients in Mexico. DH decided it's not worth the hassle to cook for ourselves. /end pity party
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
@ladyfingers: oh booo! sorry about the results. at least we're almost in the single digits! you won't have to deal with this for too long, and it may end up really helping with the post-baby slim down. I definitely think you'll still enjoy thanksgiving... I think we could all use a little moderation that day!
I think I've gained 15 pounds so far, which is too much for my pre-preg weight. I think I should probably only gain 15 total, but with baby girl growing rapidly and the holidays approaching I'm in trouble. I need to hop on the moderation bandwagon.
Also, everyone, a sneak peek at Sadie's nursery a la instagram! We've been working on it all weekend, and it's almost ready for the big reveal...
