@Phillybaby2013: Thanks for sharing your glucose test experience!

I just wanted to add that I got the slip for mine this week, and the nurse said that the lab will tell you to fast, but the doctor does not want you to fast. She said to eat normally but don't pig out on a high sugar meal that isn't typical for you. It is strange that there is so much conflicting information!

@JerricaBenton: My doc said not to fast as well. They said eat normally.

My doc also said to eat normally but not too close to the appointment. I got the drink at my last appointment (choice of orange or fruit punch) to take home and I'm supposed to drink it an hour before my next appointment (they'll take my blood right when I get there).

I received the drink at my last appointment as well along with instructions for the test. I am supposed to drink it 45 minutes before my appointment and drink it within 5 minutes. They told me to eat normally but do not eat or drink foods containing sugar or caffeine two hours prior to my test including fruit, juice, soda or yogurt.

@tororojo: Hm... my appointment is at 7 a.m., so I'll either be eating RIGHTBEFORE, or not at all lol.

I didn't get the drink ahead of time. My appointment is on Monday.

@ladyfingers: I didn't get the drink ahead of time either - and now I'm not looking forward to the non-cold syrupyness (like that word? lol) of it.

We (ok, my DH) finished painting the nursery last night, and so I had to figure out how to post a picture this morning...my first one here on HB! We picked out the colors before we knew gender, and while the wall was a pain in the neck to do (I did the math and the diagraming. He did all the painting.), I love how it came out. The other three walls are grey, which is why I took the angle shot, so you can see a little of another wall.

Now...we just have to find furniture. Today, though, we bask in our pretty, finished rectangles!

@ValentineMommy: That is why I'm happy I got the drink ahead of time. I'm going to have it super cold and try to chug the super sweet drink.

@JessiBee: I love your nursery wall! It looks amazing. Good job with the design and execution.

i had my GD blood test on wednesday. i got the fruit punch flavor, and had to drink it 45 minutes before my appointment was scheduled. i had some sausage about 20 minutes before i drank it, but nothing else that morning. i didn't think the drink was that bad. it does burn a little, but it's not too bad. i have my next appointment on tuesday to get my results. diabetes runs in my family, so wish me luck!

@lolabee: love the ceiling! i'd love to do that, but i definitely don't have the patience.

    @JessiBee: love, love, love!

we're working on the nursery this weekend. i'm excited to finally get it going. i can't wait to show you guys!

I am loving all the nursery photos! You girls are so creative! I guess I haven't entered the nesting phase yet...baby lantern's nursery is pretty bare

Going for my GD test this Saturday. Nurse says she'll like me to fast for 12 hours. Luckily brunch awaits after

@JessiBee: Wow, beautiful! You girls are all so crafty!!

@photojane: Good luck! (both with the GD test and the nursery!)

@Mrs. Lantern: Ooh, how lucky that you can do it on a Saturday. I'm so not looking forward to getting up at 6 to do the hour test starting at 7 and then go into work at 9. I'm gonna be a hot mess!

@JessiBee: this is A-Mazing! Kudos to your hubby! You guys are really making me depressed that we don't have anything done yet. I need to get moving.

@photojane: good luck on Tuesday! Hope u get good news. I haven't heard anything yet so I'm hoping that means good things.

@WALLAROO: @photojane: @Mrs. Lantern: @ladyfingers: @Phillybaby2013: THANK YOU!! I usually look at everyone else's projects and listen to your progress and think that I'm both uncreative and behind, so I really, really appreciate the positive feedback!

As far as behind-ness, my GD test is the week after Thanksgiving, which although it's coming up fast, seems really far away and after everyone else's! My doc said it's usually between 24-28 weeks, and of course I have (had) appointments at 24 weeks and (just past) 28, so she picked the later one. I think she wanted me to relax and enjoy Thanksgiving BEFORE my test. Given my newfound weight nervousness, though, I'm not super-thrilled about having an appointment a couple of days after a major holiday, but I will get over it. The baby is taking what she needs, and I am just trying to grow her big and strong, right?!

    hey everyone!!

it's been SO long since I last posted - it's so fun to get updated on everyone though and the nursery photos so far are great!! Mine currently is just a room of boxes, with only the crib and changing table set up and ready to go.

I just got back this past weekend from my babymoon in Tokyo and South Korea... lots of good eating for me and my little baby girl! Today is 27 weeks and 1 day, and I've definitely noticed that stairs are totally killer these days.. and have been for the last week or so. Maybe it's because I usually don't have to walk a lot of stairs in the US?? Most of the subway stations in Korea did not have escalators so I was walking stairs multiple times a day. Anyone else having issues with stairs these days??

  15. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@Emilie: Ugh, I feel you on the stairs! Our apartment (2nd floor) has pretty steep stairs leading up to it and they kill my legs every time! I figure I'm dragging around close to 20 more lbs than I was in the past though, so it makes sense.

  16. Phillybaby2013

    kiwi / 520 posts

@Emilie: welcome back! Glad you enjoyed yourself! Sounds like a great trip... Besides all the stairs. I feel like everything is getting increasingly difficult these days. I get out of breath very easily and my back kills. When I squat I feel like my uterus is gonna fall out lol so I try not to do that too much.

We FINALLY got the baby's room emptied this weekend. I was feeling really discouraged bc there was so much stuff but towards the end I just moved it to our spare room and will sort through it later. Hopefully were gonna start painting soon. So much to do!

Oh and I want to share something here that I don't want to tell anyone IRL b/c I will get yelled at. I did something bad...I had to stop by my parents to pick up something and no one was home. I ran past the dining room table and noticed a notebook with the address list for my shower. I peeked!! There were invitations inside and i looked at one. So now I know when my shower is and no one else knows that I know. Guess I need to practice my surprise face!

  17. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@Phillybaby2013: You're so bad! I would want to know when, though--that way you can make sure to look super cute! You should definitely still pretend to be surprised.

  18. Phillybaby2013

    kiwi / 520 posts

@tororojo: i agree. Nothing has been mentioned yet like a decoy invite and it's the 25th so maybe they were trying to catch me off guard and invite us somewhere that day. I usually don't wear makeup on a daily basis or do much to my hair besides a ponytail so i would have been super pissed if l didn't look nice for all those people and pictures!

  19. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@Emilie: Yep! Stairs are a killer. In general I just get way more winded and my heart beats fast just from normal stuff. All I did was vacuum the house yesterday and I was totally beat afterwards. I didn't even dust or clear anything up or do any countertops!

@Phillybaby2013: HAHA that is kind of hilarious and totally something I would do. Now you'll have to make sure you're all gussied up

I had my GD test this morning, it wasn't too bad! I'm really hoping I pass though because I did get kind of jittery near the end of the hour wait, and almost fell over in the parking lot from all the sugar and then the blood draw. I can't imagine the 3-hour test. The drink wasn't too bad, they actually refrigerated them so it kind of tasted like the Hi-C orange drink at McDonald's which is my guilty pleasure anytime I get a meal there, so it kinda worked out well for me I should find our next Tuesday at my next appointment how I did, if they don't call me before then.

Is it bad that I'm getting nervous about my shower invitations? It's Dec. 16 and I don't think my friend has even started them yet, judging from the conversation I had with another friend who's helping her plan the shower. I am a generally uptight person and I'm trying to go with the flow more but I would be so sad if the invites didn't go out until a couple of weeks before, especially with all the holiday rush. I told the friend in charge of invites to let me know if I can help with anything (she is so extremely busy, is taking like 5 classes and just took on a research position and has 2 kids, and she just left me a message this weekend that she is barely home at all anymore, so idk when she would do this stuff!). IDK, would you just sit back and say whatever and wait and see what happens? Or would you be like me and get all riled up? I can't really say to her, make sure you get those invites out soon lol. So I don't know that there's much I can do...

@Phillybaby2013: Thank you for the compliment on the nursery. My DH is enjoying the HypnoBirthing class much more than I expected him to, which is awesome. Thanks for talking about your glucose test experience, I am dreading mine. For some reason - unlike most of everyone else's responses that I've read - I have to fast. I'm thinking I'll pass out for sure!

I wouldn't have been able to resist peeking either!

@JessiBee: I think our bodies just know what to do as well! I figure if I'm doing my best to keep myself healthy then I am giving my baby my best.

It is SO hard shopping for things gender neutral, especially clothes! The big items aren't nearly as frustrating.

Oh WOW! I love your feature wall, great job.

I will also be having my GD test in the 29 week mark.

@ValentineMommy: Thanks! It turned out better than I expected

@photojane: I wish I could take credit, I just gave my painter the color and a picture lol. I score zero for creativity on this one! Let us know about your test results, I am sure you'll be just fine.

@Mrs. Lantern: I think you and I are the only ones that have been asked to fast, I hate not eating breakfast! I hope you didn't find it tough and enjoyed your brunch afterwards.

@Emilie: Tokyo and South Korea, that sounds wonderful! I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your baby moon! I haven't noticed too much trouble with stairs, but if I am doing any sort of cardio I find myself getting winded way easier.

@ladyfingers: Oh dear! Your GD experience makes me feel certain that I will be passing out at some point. That's not a fun spot to be in with the invitations, I don't have any good advice because I would probably just let whatever happen, happen. Not the best road to take! Hope it all turns out well and she has it all under control.

@ladyfingers: Glad your test wasn't too bad. And your right about the Hi-C likeness. Altho for some reason when you said Hi-C it made me think of Ecto-Cooler. Do you remember that?! Haha. Wish they still made it.

I don't know what I'd do about the invite thing...I'm super Type A and would probably be thinking the way you are. How close are you with her? If it were my sister or a close friend I would try to joke about how they weren't out yet and hoped the got the hint. It sounds like she has alot on her plate so I wouldn't want to stress her out either or sound ungrateful. I also would hope she wouldn't take on something that's important to you if she couldn't handle it and make it nice for you. Maybe you could work through the other friend to help push things along since she's involved with the planning too?

@lolabee: I'm happy your hubby is enjoying the class more than you thought! It's helpful when our men surprise us especially when it comes to baby stuff. We have our childbirth class on Dec. 8th and I hope DH takes an interest in everything.

Found out tonight at my appointment that I PASSED the glucose test!! She didn't tell me what my # was but I'm so relieved. Although I asked about our anatomy scan since we never really got results from having to keep going back and she said they couldn't say 100% on the spine that it was normal?? She asked if we had the 2nd part of the Sequential Screen, which we did and it came back fine so she said it was probably nothing. DH said maybe she didn't see the 2nd report bc we thought they got a lot of spine images since that was specifically what we went for. The 3rd one was strictly for the heart. Would you be worried?? I'm tempted to get a copy of all the reports to see what they actually said. I think I'm going to ask at my next appointment which BTW we are now going every 2 WEEKS!! Can't believe how flipping fast this is going!

We just had our first (of two parts) of the labor and birthing class, and I'm kind of disappointed. I thought the (nurse) presenter mainly just read the powerpoint presentation, referred us to pages in the booklet they gave out (but without a copy of the powerpoint slides), and ran through everything really quickly. Anything I didn't know going in--I don't think it was explained tonight. We did a little on relaxation and breathing techniques, but I didn't think she gave enough guidance there either, but maybe I'm just crabby. And pregnant. My husband didn't think it was as useless as I did, so I'll be satisfied with that, but I wanted a moment to vent here! For those of you who have taken classes, have you found them useful? We have part two next week, and now I'm kind of dreading it a little, and then we're signed up for breastfeeding and for a baby/home safety class, and now I'm working on adjusting all expectations downwards.

Sorry to be a downer tonight...I'll try and have something more positive to post soon!

@Emilie: your babymoon sounds so awesome!

@Phillybaby2013: so funny! i am terrible about sneaking and ruining surprises. i always ruin christmas. i always found my presents growing up! i'm glad i'm not the only snooper/surprise ruiner! CONGRATS on no diabetes -- good, good news!

@ladyfingers: i totally get you on the invite thing. my mom sent my invitations out 2 weeks before the shower, which is the weekend before thanksgiving!! i was so frustrated she waited so long. it totally freaked me out. a lot of people have actually declined, but i'm hoping we still have a decent turn out. i feel like there's still enough time to send out invites for december 16th though - i wouldn't worry yet!

@JessiBee: boo for your sucky teacher! i think you'll do just fine though. lots and lots of women give birth without any classes. your body will kick in and you'll be an awesome super woman when the time comes!

@lolabee: i can't believe you're still team green! you have so much will power. i was team green for maybe a week. haha

in other news, i got my GD results back, and they were normal. hurray! my appointment isn't until tomorrow, but my OB loads all of our test results and chart info onto an online charting system, so i got to check them out today. apparently the reference range for a normal result is 65-139 mg/dl, and my result was 115 mg/dl. so, so glad to not have to do the 3 hour test!

also, we did a hospital tour tonight. i actually work at my hospital doing newborn photos, but this was my husband's first time there. we had a little information class beforehand, and though it was old news to me, hubs really enjoyed it. it totally made things real though... i'm starting to freak out a little bit. how in the world am i already in my third trimester?!

anyone else starting to get nervous about labor and delivery?

@JessiBee: GORGEOUS! I love it! I'm sorry about your class - I haven't taken any yet (we only signed up for one in Dec). Hopefully the others you take will be better!

@Emilie: I definitely have stair issues as well....I think I've been having trouble with them since like, week 16, lol.

@Phillybaby2013: Lol! I would have peeked too! I am not big on surprises, so I'm glad that I know when mine is! Congrats on passing your test! If everything was fine in your second part of the sequential, I wouldn't be too concerned....can't hurt to ask though!

@ladyfingers: I would be nervous about the invites too, especially with the holidays so close to the shower. I'm totally OCD, so I feel your pain. I'm not sure there's much you can do about it though...

@photojane: Congrats on passing the test! I'm really looking forward to our hospital tour, as well. Ours isn't until Dec, but I can't wait! I'm not really getting nervous for labor/delivery, since I'm having a c-section, but I AM getting nervous for when the baby is actually HERE and at home and I'm alone and confused. Lol. It's starting to keep me up at night!

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@photojane: Yes, so frustrating! You're right though, I just need to hang in there. I don't want to be ungrateful! And congrats on your test! You reminded me that my doctor's office has an online portal now so I'm seriously checking the lab and tests section like every hour even though I just got the test yesterday lol. I hope I get some news before Tuesday! That's so fun about the hospital tour, we had ours on Saturday and it was so awesome to get to see the rooms (well, most of them) and learn about how they handle things. I love that our hospital does kangaroo care by default. I don't love that you only get like 10 minutes when you have a C or that you can't eat or drink anything but ice chips but... it's a hospital, so I don't know what I was expecting there But the rooms are huge and everything is so nice and new and clean and it actually got me excited! I am super nervous though about L&D... you want to know something crazy? I'm most scared that I will have no idea I'm in labor lol. I keep reading about Braxton Hicks like it's a given you'll have them by now and I'm like am I having them? idk, what does a contraction feel like if it doesn't hurt? OMG I WILL HAVE NO IDEA WHEN I'M HAVING CONTRACTIONS. I'm a nut.

@ValentineMommy: I'm glad to hear there are others as OCD as I am! I don't think there's anything I can do either, I don't want to stress her out further or appear ungrateful. Maybe if it goes another week or so I'll ask her if she knows when the invites are going out because I've had a lot of people ask me when the shower is. Which is actually true!

@Emilie: That sounds like an amazing babymoon. I would love to just eat my way around those two cities but I would be bummed at not being able to eat the sushi in Tokyo. I know you can eat it from reputable places but I have still tried to avoid it. Stairs and hills have been pretty difficult for me for the past few weeks. I get contractions when going up the stairs.

@Phillybaby2013: That is too funny about the invites. It is hard not to peek when they are right there for the looking. Better start practicing your surprised face. Congrats on passing your GD test!

@ladyfingers: I chose the Fruit Punch flavor I hope it isn't that bad. I think there is still time for the invites to go out but hopefully the go out soon! As for the contractions, your stomach/uterus just gets rock hard. It doesn't really hurt but you can tell the difference. I usually get mine if I get up too fast from a seated position, going upstairs, or if I have been working too hard in the kitchen. Hope that helps!

@lolabee: So awesome that you guys are still holding strong with being Team Green. I have noticed that I have been leaning towards some gender neutral things so that the babies can share some items so that way I don't need to double up on everything. It is a little more challenging.

@photojane: Yay for passing your GD test! That is so cool that you do the newborn photos at your hospital. That must be a fun job. So I'm confused does the third trimester start week 27 or week 28? I am getting nervous for L&D only because I have no idea when these little babies are coming.

@JessiBee: I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the class. Hopefully the next ones will be better.

@ValentineMommy: Do you have your c-section scheduled already?

Has anybody else been experiencing pregnancy induced carpal tunnel? I only have it in my right hand and it sucks! The nurse told me that unfortunately it is a pregnancy symptom and can be exacerbated because of twins. The only relief she mentioned was to try wearing a wrist splint at night.

Other than that I'm feeling ok. Babies are super active and are punching, kicking, rolling, hiccuping, and stretching. We are going to class #5 of 7 tonight and the topic is breastfeeding multiples. I'm excited to learn all about it and how to make tandem feeding a possibility.

@Phillybaby2013 - omg!! haha... I totally would have looked too I'm glad that you know though so you can look how you want to look at your shower! maybe even try to do your makeup and hair a bit more often before the 25th, so it's not a total giveaway that you knew it was coming when you get all dolled up? hahaha. and.. yes, stop doing squats - we don't want your uterus to feel like it's going to fall out that can't be good!

@valentinemommy and @tororojo - glad it's not just me feeling those stairs!!

@photojane and @ladyfingers - you're making me feel optimistic about the GD test. I need to take it later on this week!

@photojane - sorry to hear about the shower invitations... I would definitely feel uneasy about them going out much later than now. Maybe you could ask your friend again (the one not doing the invites) and see if she can push the other friend along? If they're doing printed invites and haven't really started on the design yet... they still have the print them, address them, and mail them out. Maybe suggest doing an emailed invite like paperless post (if you're not opposed to it)? It'll be faster and cheaper for your friends! and definitely less work as well.

@lolabee - yes, the babymoon was great! it's funny you say that about cardio though - I've still been taking my cardio classes (zumba and cardio kickboxing) and I've been ok for those, but not stairs! haha.. so we're kind of opposite for that?

@wallaroo - yeah, I was bummed about not being able to eat sushi, but there's so much other good food in Tokyo that once I was there, it wasn't a big deal at all! I did cheat very slightly though and one course for one of my dinners had a teeny bit of uni on top of the salad... so I ate it

@ladyfingers: If people are asking you about it, can you direct them to your friend throwing you the shower? Maybe that would get her on the ball?

@WALLAROO: C-section isn't scheduled yet - the doc said we would wait, just to see how I'm progressing. I'm apparently measuring an entire week ahead. If everything progresses "smoothly", it will be a week before my due date (so around 2/6)

@ValentineMommy: I could, but none of these people know my friend. I have two groups of friends basically, one is in her circle, and one isn't. So I would feel bad like handing out her phone number and telling people to just bombard her with calls. Plus, I mean, I know the date and location of the shower so I can just tell them myself. I just figured telling her I'm getting lots of questions, would help move her along.

@ladyfingers: Could you ask if she needs help stamping/addressing envelopes for the shower or something like that? Which would imply that you figure she's on the ball and you're just innocently offering your services...basically it's an excuse to hang out! (slash check up on her)

Thank you all for the encouragement on my bummer-class! I think that with 24 hours distance, it was still a disappointment, but not quite as bad as I made it sounds last night.

@Phillybaby2013: @photojane: Congrats on passing your glucose test!

@photojane: You do newborn photos?! That is awesome. I kind of want to peek at your pics now that I'm definitely obsessed with newborn photos (and finding someone to do them not-too-expensively). I am definitely a bit nervous about labor and delivery! I go back and forth, but right now I'm more nervous about the whole responsible-for-another-human-being thing that comes afterwards.

@ladyfingers: LOL at no idea on contractions. I've been thinking the same thing! Every time someone mentions Braxton Hicks, I nod as if I know exactly what they're talking about. I don't know what it should feel like, or if I've had them. I'm confident neither of us will miss all of labor though...much as we might want to.

@WALLAROO: No carpal tunnel here, but I'm with you on LOVING the baby movement! I was just sitting on my computer last night and she was squirming around, and I grabbed my DH's hand and just put it there. He had this look on his face of not quite believing it--he hadn't gotten to feel much movement yet, but last night's was unmistakable (even for him!) and really cool.

Keep feeling good, ladies, and (trying to) relax about getting everything done RIGHT NOW!

I feel like I'm going to cry. I failed the one-hour glucose test so I have to do the three-hour test now. I know a lot of people fail it, but I feel like a total loser. And now I have to figure out when I can take 3.5 hours off of work. Boo!

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@ladyfingers: oh no! what a bummer! i read that it actually happens a lot. there are tons of false positives on the 1-hour test. i know it sucks to have to take the three hour test, but at least your chances of actually having GD aren't very good. did they give you your numbers?

  37. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@photojane: Yeah, the guy at the lab told me that probably 2 out of 3 women fail the first test (after he told me how much the three-hour test sucks and went into detail about all the sticks and the glucose level of the drink... so thanks, dude for saying "it sucks so bad but oh btw you'll probably have to do it." No, they didn't give me my numbers but I'm going to see if I can get them when I pick up the requisition form today on my lunch break. I'm going to see if I can get a Friday morning appointment, there are some available at a couple of different labs about 3 miles from either work or home. The nurse just said the "glucose level was a little higher than expected" so hopefully it wasn't that much.

@ladyfingers: what a loser! even if it sucks, i want medical professions to lie to me and tell me how easy it will be. we don't need more stress, right?! my doctor said that anything around 139 or below was normal, so if you find you were right around there then maybe that will help you relax a bit!
