    @WALLAROO: 12 more days, exciting!

@photojane: Excited for pics of Sadie's nursery. I am feeling well, minus the not ever sleeping! Hope you are feeling well too

@JerricaBenton: Good on ya for having your bags packed and still getting to classes at the gym. I'm slacking and just doing prenatal yoga and walking. Oops!

@tororojo: Hooray for head down LO's! What week do you have your GBS test? I'm going for mine next Thursday.

@Emilie: lol I went crazy one day and ordered a bunch of books off Amazon! Yes, I think the Bradley Method book would do great in that aspect, much like the HypnoBirthing that way. That is definitely a strange symptom - I haven't had that happen as yet but I can imagine it would be super annoying!

@shopaholic: GORGEOUS!!! A mix of the two would be so beautiful! I would love to do something like that if I knew the gender and it was a girl. Ah the benefits of knowing which team you're on.

@ladyfingers: Sorry to hear you are having a bad day! Always so amplified when preggo I feel! I'm certain your evening will be much better. Head home, put your feet up and enjoy a cup of tea with a favorite book. Hugs!

We just finished having our maternity pics done, I am so excited to see them! I was on the fence before but I feel happy with the decision to do them after our session. Makes it feel much more real that the end of pregnancy is coming up really fast!

Umm guys...my mucous plug just came out!! I'm only 35.5 weeks. Waiting to hear back from my midwife.

@shopaholic: Yeah - the decorating part is my favorite! I love those mobile inspiration pics! I made one with pink crystals but I got all my supplies around Christmas time because I was able to find ornaments that worked. The theme is vintagey pink and red and light blue. I found little stuffed animal ornaments in floral prints with all those colors and I used the pink crystals in between. I used pink sheer ribbons at the top - this was the inspiration pic for the top:

@lolabee: Thanks! It makes it easier for me when I can focus on stuff I can control! I just put post-its on my dresser and my huband's listing the last minute things we'll have to throw in the bag when it all goes down! Re working out: Hey I'm a firm believer that any kind of moving around is good! I know it has helped my keep back problems at a minimum!

@ladyfingers: I know exactly what you mean about a certain dr/midwife changing your whole perspective of an appointment. I have one like that at my practice and I always leave feeling anxious. I'm sure everything is fine with you. I always thought if there was no protein in the urine you are fine.

@Mrs. Lantern: Crazy! Maybe it wasn't the whole thing? Good luck!

  5. Mrs. Lantern

    apricot / 359 posts

@JerricaBenton: It wasn't the bloody show..it was clear. Midwife says to not worry and that it's not a sign of start of labour. Just that your body is preparing for labour. Now I'm trying to not overanalyze every braxton hicks as a contraction!

@Mrs. Lantern: That's good! Uggh, I am so excited but so scared as we get so close! The fear of the unknown I guess

  7. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@JerricaBenton: Yeah I"m just so worried she'll be the one on call when I pop lol

@Mrs. Lantern: Mine came out around that time, last week, too! My midwife was totally unimpressed when I told her yesterday lol... I don't even think she wrote it down. Did you have a cervical exam recently? I had my first one the day before it came out, and she said that can do it. Mine wasn't bloody, either, but it was definitely the mucus plug. Crazy, huh?!

So the other midwife in our practice called me back and I just told her I needed some reassurance. She explained things very well -- said the danger zone for bp is typically 140/90 and not only am I below that, but my readings yesterday were in keeping with my trend in the past -- she said the midwife yesterday probably just didn't look as far back as she did to see what my typical numbers are. She said the feet swelling is new but that I just need to stay on my side and drink fluids while at home, as much as possible. Otherwise she reassured me everything else she's looking at looks great (and we already knew the baby and blood flow/placenta looked great from the u/s) and I'd be back next week anyway so they'd be keeping an eye on things.

    I feel so much better!

@ladyfingers: Sorry you had a crappy day, but glad things seem to be going better and that they called you back quickly!!

@JerricaBenton: I love that mobile photo! I'm not being creative there; we registered for one that looks like a toy of some kind. Oh well.

@Mrs. Lantern: Wow! I agree that I've heard that it can come out way before labor, but still...progress is progress, right?! We are getting close!

@lolabee: Looking forward to seeing some of your maternity pics...you will share, right?!

We finally chose a pediatrician today! It's a practice we'd heard only positive things about, and the doctor was great: the right mix of very professional and knowledgable as well as really friendly. One more thing to check off the list! The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD has been sitting on the table since I picked it up from the library on Monday, but we haven't watched it yet. This weekend we will, and then I'll let you know my opinion! I've been reading Bringing Up Bebe this week, and it is fascinating. Highly recommend!

Nothing much else here...just trying to stay awake and stay (somewhat) focused at work every day!

@Mrs. Lantern: Glad to hear it's just your body prepping for labor! Are you feeling well? Lots of BH

@ladyfingers: Glad you got an update that put your mind at ease
@JessiBee: I will definitely share some pics when I get them back. We ended up doing them in our house so I think that made things a lot more comfortable. Congrats on choosing a ped! Big thing crossed off the list, I am sure that feels great.

Am I the only Mama on our thread that isn't getting cervical checks? I'm wondering if the curiousity will drive me nuts! lol

@ladyfingers: I'm so sorry you had a disappointing appointment! I hate when I forget to ask a question or we get off topic and I never got that question answered.

That is so amazing they can see baby's hair! DH's family has a history of producing bald babies that don't sprout any hair for 2-3 years! I'm hoping to see some hair on our baby girl at next week's u/s!

@Emilie: Ooh! Thanks for those links! Will definitely check them out tonight!

@lolabee: Thanks! I know, I originally wanted to do Team Green, but now I can't imagine not knowing and how I'd decorate! But it's still such an amazing surprise that will await you! Can't wait to see your maternity pics!!!

@Mrs. Lantern: OMgosh! I'd be on pins and needles and wonder if every contraction was the start of labour!

@JessiBee: Good job on picking the ped! Every time I remember I want to call the offices for an interview, it's already past closing time. Got to get on that soon.

@JerricaBenton: Ooooh! SO pretty! I love the sheer ribbon tie on top, might have to borrow that idea too if I find something pretty! Love the vintage feel too.

  11. Mrs. Lantern

    apricot / 359 posts

@ladyfingers: Same with my MW! No real response. Nope it wasn't due to a cervical check. She says the cervix might produce more mucous in the upcoming weeks.

@JessiBee: After what happened, it feels so much closer! I better start thinking more earnestly about birth plans and prepping that hospital bag!

@lolabee: I haven't had a cervical check either. Maybe it's not done routinely in Canada like in the States? The MW told me to come in for one if I notice any unusual activity before 37 weeks.

@shopaholic: LOL definitely. Must. stop. overanalyzing! lol

  12. lolabee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@shopaholic: I can't wait to see pics of your nursery and maternity pics!

@Mrs. Lantern: Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. Although out of the girlfriends that I've asked they had checks, starting at varying times. I've forgotten, where in Canada are you? You are so lucky that you have a MW, I applied at every place in our city the day I found out I was pregnant. Declined at each place, just not enough midwives to meet the demand. Where are you planning to deliver?

  13. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@lolabee: I actually already had a check at 28 weeks. The midwife asked if I wanted one last week, but I declined because I didn't want to be disappointed that I'm not dilated yet. Starting this week I'll always meet with my OB instead of a midwife, and I'll get a check every week. I don't like surprises - I want to know what my body's doing!

@Mrs. Lantern: Exciting!! I've had lots of mucus/discharge lately, but nothing that looks like a plug. I keep looking for it though! I'm trying not to rush the last couple weeks, but I just want some signs that something is happening.

I feel like Sadie Girl has dropped. She may not have officially dropped, but she is definitely lower than she has been. Her butt was all up in my ribs before, and now it's right above my belly button. The pressure on my bladder is INSANE. I pretty much always feel like I need to pee. Not feeling much in the way of cervical/vaginal pressure though. I'm hoping for some good news during my cervical check this week!

PS: Got my Group B results back - negative! Good news since I'm allergic to Penicillin.

  14. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@photojane: what? You got your cervical check already at 28 weeks? I wonder if I will get mine this week then...I'll be one day shy of 33 at my appt. The OB hasn't mentioned the cervical check, strep B tests, or any stress tests. I only know about these things from reading them on here. Thankfully, because I like to be prepared too.

You are looking fab! Hopefully Sadie is coming soon!

  15. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@shopaholic: My practice does a check at your first 3rd trimester appointment just to make sure you haven't started dilating yet. It's just a precaution. I haven't had any since then. The OB's usually start the checks whenever you begin your weekly appointments, but since I saw a midwife, I just skipped it last week. I think most practices don't start doing checks until 35 or 36 weeks, and the Group B test happens at the same time. I think you only get the stress tests if you go past your due date or you have some sort of complication. They're definitely not routine at my practice.

Thanks! I hope she's coming soon too! I'm READY. Gahhh! Did you decide on a mobile?

  16. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@photojane: oh! Thanks for explaining all that! I love my OB, she makes everything seem less stressful, which I love, but probably why none of this has been mentioned to me yet.

We r in the mountains for a long weekend, so I haven't gone to the stores to look for mobile materials yet. I hope Sadie comes soon for you too!

  17. Mrs. Lantern

    apricot / 359 posts

@lolabee: I'm in Vancouver. How about you? I can't believe there's not enough midwives to meet the demand And you approached them so early too! I have a strep B test at my next appointment but that's it.

@photojane: I hear it often just falls into the toilet and most women don't event notice! I only noticed 'cause I was in the tub when it happened. Yay for negative strep B test!

@JessiBee: that's exciting you chose a paediatrician! Did you get to meet them first before deciding?

Is anyone feeling any pelvic pressure?

  18. lolabee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@photojane: That's a fair point. I think if I asked my doc she would do a check but she just doesn't do it routinely. I guess I will just play it by ear. Great to hear you are GBS -, such a relief!

@Mrs. Lantern: Nice I love Vancouver! Maybe not the real estate prices though Such a great city, I wish I could go 3 times a year just to shop haha! I'm in Winnipeg. Ya, it was/is super disappointing. I tried asking our only birthing center a few more times after being declined as well, to no avail. Maybe next time though! Is it fairly common to go with a mw in Vancouver? It's still not very popular here (I don't have any friends that have used one) but the demand is definitely increasing.

How was everyones weekend? I'm getting so antsy to 'meet' our first February babe. I wonder who it will be? Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I've pretty much finished packing our bags for the hospital. I left a note in both bags listing what still needs to be put in for DH, just in case of an emergency.

Are most ladies bringing a birth preference list? I wrote mine out yesterday but really need to cut it down - I know if it's too long none of the medical staff will even bother to read it.

My photog gave us a sneak peek of our maternity pictures (a FB appropriate one lol) SO excited to see the rest!

    EDIT *FB made it pixely!*

@lolabee: Love the photo. So romantic.
My doula is from Winnipeg! She was just there over the holidays. MWs are becoming pretty common in Vancouver...but it could just be the people I know. I still get the question, "Are you having a home birth?" when I tell them we have a midwife. I think people are starting to learn more about the wonderful things they do and that they are not only for home births

  20. Mrs. Markers

    @lolabee: love the pic!

question for the group... are you all sterilizing bottles, pump, feeding supplies before LO arrives? I've heard that some babies prefer different bottles to others, so I'm hesitant to take all of one brand out of the box in case I want to return. Are you waiting or just having everything ready to go?

  21. lolabee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@Mrs. Lantern: Thank you! That's cool that your doula is from here, a lot of people from here move out west to either Vancouver or Calgary. That is awesome that midwives are becoming more common there, I think in the next decade a lot of things are going to make a shift with labor and delivery.

@Mrs. Markers: Thank you! Hmm I have not even considered doing this. I'm now wondering if I've taken a very close minded approach in thinking I will for sure be breastfeeding....

I'm interested to hear what everyone else has to say!

  22. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@Mrs. Markers: I have no idea about this but don't think we'll have anything sterilized. I took the pump off of our registry since supposedly insurance has to buy it, and I took bottles off since I don't know what kind of pump we're getting...is it bad to not own any of that before baby is here? (we do have Target and Babies R Us within 10 mins of home so I figure DH can run out and buy something in an emergency)

  23. WALLAROO

    kiwi / 711 posts

@lolabee: Love the pic. Can't wait to see the rest.

@Mrs. Lantern: I am definitely feeling pelvic pressure. I'm just feeling all sorts of pressure these days.

@Mrs. Markers: I have not taken any bottles out of the packaging yet. I am hoping that breastfeeding will be successful so that I won't be needing the bottles right away. Curious to hear from the non-first time moms on their advice for this.

Not much to report except that I'm starting to get more contractions with a few that are painful but I can still talk through them. They aren't consistent at all. Just basically feeling uncomfortable. The babies don't really kick as often as they used to (although there is plenty of movement), but when they do man they are strong! It's crazy to think that I only have two more appointments until my c-section date.

  24. Mrs. Lantern

    apricot / 359 posts

@WALLAROO: That's coming up so soon!! I hear you on the uncomfortable. It's ironic the only time I have "rock hard abs" is when I'm pregnant since baby lantern is squeezed so tightly in there!

@Mrs. Markers: I am washing and sterilizing all the bottles and pump. Mine are hand me down though!

  25. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@Mrs. Lantern: Love Vancouver! Such a gorgeous city!

@lolabee: LOVE the picture! Agree - it's so romantic and intimate feeling! Your dress is really nice for pictures too!

@Mrs. Markers: I don't think I will open or sterilize any bottles until we need to. Hoping to BF so FX'd. We have bottles and a sterilizer at home already so if we need to use a bottle, I think it would only take a few minutes to prep some.

Can't wait to meet the first Feb. babies too! I think maybe @WALLAROO: is the first to be scheduled is that right?

  26. lolabee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@WALLAROO: Thank you! That is crazy its only two more appointments, SO exciting!!

@shopaholic: Thanks! I was so undecided on what to wear, I ended up changing a few times and realized afterwards I was only in bare feet - oops!

Yes I believe you are right @WALLAROO: is the first that is scheduled. Exciting to think our first babies on the Feb boards will most likely be twins

  27. shopaholic

    bananas / 9973 posts

@lolabee: LOL! I didn't even realize you were barefoot either! The pic captured such a beautiful cliche "barefoot & pregnant" *chuckle chuckle*

  28. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@lolabee: LOVE the picture - it's beautiful! I'm not bringing a birth preference list, because I don't really have preferences. Ha! Basically, I want an epidural and the baby out safely... otherwise, I trust my OB's and midwives to make the best decisions for our health. They're all really awesome and I totally trust them.

@Mrs. Markers: Yep! I boiled all the bottles and pacifiers I have. I'm a lunatic, and need everything to be ready. I don't have a huge collection yet, but I plan on pumping and supplementing, so I'll need the bottles from the beginning. I definitely want to BF, but really want Sadie to be able to take a bottle!

@WALLAROO: You're getting SO close! I'm so excited for our first mommy!

I found out today that I get a free breast pump! I was anticipating it being part of our huge deductible, so I wasn't going to get one. I'm not sure how frequently it will be used, but I'm excited to try it out.

Also, Sadie's nursery is COMPLETE. It is so weird to have a finished nursery in the house! I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow to share with y'all.

  29. JessiBee

    kiwi / 733 posts

We are getting so close, and a few of you are already full term...wow!! I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to finding out if/when she'll start with the internal checks, when I do the strep swab, whether I have any other ultrasounds, etc. I'm up to weekly appointments, so it's feeling REALLY close now! Finally feel like we have the necessities: pack and play being delivered (UPS) tomorrow; glider is in at BBB (hubby to pick up next weekend with borrowed car); even bought diapers and wipes on a Target run today! Have a load of baby laundry to do, and some postpartum things to get for me, but mostly, we're pretty set! Yikes.

@Mrs. Lantern: Yes, choosing the pediatrician felt like a big thing. We did meet him (and had previously met one of the other docs in the practice, who I didn't click with as much), and I know several people who use the practice, including some friends married to doctors, so we're feeling great about the choice.

@lolabee: Love the pic! I think @ladyfingers could still be our first February mommy, since it sounds like she and baby are gearing up already.

@Mrs. Markers: I guess I'm also feeling optimistic that breastfeeding will work out...or at least that I'll be trying that exclusively for long enough to deal with potential bottles after baby's arrival. Actually...we have no bottles in the house at the moment. Perhaps I should remedy that on the next BBB run...

@tororojo: Agreed on the pump. Entertainingly, since our insurance is through my DH's work, he has to be the one to make all the phone calls, so he gets to talk to them about pumps! I love that now they're (supposed to be) covered, but it's still so early in the year (and therefore the new policies) that we're nervous that nobody quite knows the process yet.

@WALLAROO: You're so close!! I get some tightening every now and then (not even once a day, usually), and I think those are contractions, but I'm not entirely sure. If it happens when I'm out on a walk, I seem to involuntarily slow down a LOT, so...that's what I've been assuming they are. Obviously, they are few and far between and not so intense at the moment! I'm "only" 35 weeks (and a few days)...

@shopaholic: LOL barefoot and pregnant. I laugh at myself when I walk around the house that way, too!

@photojane: Congrats on the finished nursery! We have some work to do still, especially with things on the walls. Can't wait to see pics of yours!

  30. photojane

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@JessiBee: It feels so good to get stuff done, doesn't it? Just having diapers, wipes, formula, etc. in the house has made me feel so much more ready for her arrival.

I'm with you, I think @ladyfingers might be our first! We might have two February mamas in January. There's always a huge influx of women delivering when there's a full moon, and there's one on January 27th, so we've instructed Sadie that she can make her appearance then.

  32. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@JessiBee: Haha, my insurance is through DH as well so he has to do all the breast pump research/phone calling...which so far has been a TON of calls and conflicting information. If we can grow babies though, I think it's okay for them to research/figure out the pump situation!

  33. lolabee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@shopaholic: hahaha totally barefoot and pregnant! I am barefoot all the time at home. So I guess I am the cliche

@photojane: That makes sense. I feel I have to bring one because I am not, by any means, guaranteed my doctor. I won't have even met any of the other doctors in her rotation. So I figure best to have typed out 'preferences' since whoever ends up delivering me won't know me at all. One of the other reasons I reallllly wanted a MW. Free breast pump - awesome!! Big money saver there. Can't wait to see nursery pics!

@JessiBee: Exciting to receive items for the nursery, my fav is getting things in the mail. Such a good feeling to be checking things of the list. Thanks for the compliment on the pic You're right, @ladyfingers: could totally be our first Feb Mama. When did you change to weekly appts?

  34. ladyfingers

    pomelo / 5331 posts

@photojane: Yay for dropping! People keep saying I look like I've dropped, but I don't see it at all. And then other people tell me I definitely haven't. I don't know if maybe I'm not feeling/seeing it because I'm so short torsoe'd, or if he just hasn't dropped.

@WALLAROO: I had a ton of Braxton Hicks this weekend along with the pink discharge, and then... nothing! No more pink discharge, no contractions, no cramps since Sunday. Ugh! So aggravating.

@JessiBee: @photojane: @lolabee: IDK, my money's still on Wallaroo. I have the feeling this baby is going to keep us waiting for a while.

I have been in the worst possible mood today. I have been crying all morning long. I'm so uncomfortable and I feel so bad and selfish that I am sick of being pregnant. I should be all, oh, I want the baby to keep cooking, every day is so much better for him, oh he will just come when he's good and ready. But my feet are swollen so much that they hurt, and I can barely eat because he moves around so much and so violently, and I'm exhausted and there's barely anything to do at work and I can't get comfortable and I just want it to be over already.

I really wish I could go on and on about the wonders of pregnancy and how happy I am, but right now, today, I just want this baby to be born happy and healthy and in my arms. But I still have 19 days until my due date, so whatever.

  35. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@ladyfingers: I think it's okay to WANT it to be over! It's not like that's going to make your baby come any earlier, so don't feel guilty about it. He will come when he's ready, and at least you're making progress! Sorry you're feeling so bad, though. But hey, only 13 days of work, tops!

  36. shopaholic

@ladyfingers: {{HUGS}} It's okay to feel the way you do. 10 months of pregnancy is HARD work!

  37. WALLAROO

    kiwi / 711 posts

@photojane: I need to call my insurance regarding the breast pump again. I tried talking to them about it last year but they were still confused so I was going to wait until 2013. Do you know what type of breast pump they are covering? Is it just the single breast pump?

@JessiBee: Sounds like you guys are good to go!

@tororojo: Haha. How is your DH doing talking to insurance about breast pumps?

@ladyfingers: I totally feel your pain. I'm so ready for this pregnancy to be over and just meet my babies. I'm just so uncomfortable. We are almost there though!

  38. tororojo

    grapefruit / 4669 posts

@WALLAROO: He's a trooper and doesn't seem to mind...EXCEPT he has to literally go through pages of medical suppliers (provided by insurance) making phone calls to see if they'll rent breast pumps and none of them will. So it's not helpful for them to tell us they'll pay for a rental but not tell us where to get it from. Poor DH.

**Question** When did you ladies get your registry completion discount? How much was it? Did you receive by mail or by email? (Babies R Us and Amazon, specifically) <--I really want to buy our car seat since it's the last thing we truly NEED, but haven't seen a coupon yet.

  39. WALLAROO

    kiwi / 711 posts

@tororojo: I only had an Amazon registry and I received my completion discount 30 days prior to the due date that I entered. It was 10% off of certain items - mainly ones that were fulfilled/sold by Amazon and not a third party.

  40. JessiBee

    kiwi / 733 posts

@photojane: YES! It's scary to have diapers and things ready to go, but it definitely feels good, too!

@tororojo: Haha, excellent point. I'm on the baby-growing, he can take care of the pump-procurement.

@lolabee: I started my weekly appointments today, at 35.5 weeks. (Or else today was the last of my every-other-week appointments, and next week is my first weekly? My previous appointment was two weeks ago. My next one is in a week.)

@ladyfingers: I am getting closer and closer to understanding that feeling! I've had a really easy pregnancy, but I'm just getting increasingly uncomfortable and tired and sick of answering "when are you due?" Any and all (natural, safe, and probably useless) methods to attempt eviction begin February 1, when I'm 38 weeks.

@tororojo: I got my BBB completion discount coupon in the (snail) mail at around...34 weeks? But it's only 10%, and I don't think you can stack it with their usual coupons, so we probably won't use it at all, sadly. I don't think we've gotten the Amazon one yet.

So I had a doc appointment today, and discovered that in the last two weeks, I lost a pound and a half. Or one of the scales was off. The nurse seemed entirely non-concerned; she basically said I'm really little and the baby has nowhere else to go, and not to worry about it. Somehow, my stomach keeps on growing anyway, because according to the doctor I've been measuring right on track the whole way, including two weeks ago and today. I think my body just doesn't want to get to 150 pounds! (I've been hovering a couple pounds below it for several visits now.) She said I'll have my strep swab next week (at 36.5 weeks) and start the weekly internal checks next week also. She did feel around (from the outside!) and confirm that at least for the moment, baby is head-down. Which, given the hiccups I felt way down there at 3 am, I could confirm. It's almost February!!!
