@AuntieEm: You sneaky lady with the gingerale! Smart! Ugh and I hear you on the smell!! Poor thing! I've had trouble just going to the grocery store. I can't imagine sitting in a seafood restaurant.

@MrsKoala: Um yeah. Seafood with a raw bar. Yuck.
But after a while I got used to it.
Hope everyone is well today!

So I was wondering if anyone has been keeping track of their weight gain and if so, how much weight have u gained so far if any??
pomegranate / 3706 posts
Hi everyone! Just finally caught up on this thread. I've been so terribly sick and confined to my bed most days for the last 4 weeks. With my DD I was sick until 18 weeks and I'm at 10 now, so it's potentially still a long road ahead. Not much weight gain here- vomiting too much. Next u/s for us is July 29 at a little over 12 weeks.
Regarding SAHM/ work, I'm kind of both. I own a business I run from home, and it's seasonal (wedding related), so I stay home most days with my daughter, and have a sitter 2-3 days a week during my busy Spring/ Summer season. Otherwise, I just work at night when my LO is asleep. I personally LOVE being home with my daughter, but it's the hardest job I've ever done. The days I have a sitter and work, are much easier days.

@MSBartlett: I haven't gained yet luckily. Not sure how because I'm eating horribly and often.

@MSBartlett: Im definitely going to keep track. We have a scale at home and it read the same numbers after my appt. However, Im really happy to write this, a few days later the scale read my regular weight number and I hadnt gone to the bathroom in 2 days so I dont think I have gained anything yet. I trust that number since it lined up w my other dr appts which is nice!

@erinpye: so sorry your sick! Would you try the B6 and Unisom or Zofran?
pomegranate / 3706 posts
@citymouse: aww thanks, tried it all doesn't do anything for me and zofran also adds the additional prob of being totally backed up and in gastrointestinal pain. Severe MS is no joke! This is my last baby!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
@AuntieEm: 'You time' is something you definitely have to make a conscious effort to do, but it is doable! Even just a coffee on my own whilst DH watches LO makes a world of difference. I also have always made sure to use some of her nap time to do what I want to do (reading, writing, making photo books etc) rather than feeling as though I have to get all the household chores done during her nap time. It's the little things that make a difference but you definitely need to make a concerted effort to get that time on your own!
@MSBartlett: I'm normally slightly obsessive about my weight but the battery on our scale has gone flat and I haven't replaced it yet so I don't actually know whether or not I've gained weight! Last time I didn't gain any weight until 16 weeks and then gained 8lbs in two weeks! I gained 32 lbs total last time and hoping to stay around the same this time.
@erinpye: I'm so sorry you're suffering from such severe MS! Really hoping it eases up sooner for you this time, fingers crossed!

Just wanted to introduce myself... I am 36yo and 7w4d pregnant, though feeling a little skittish about it since I had a miscarriage in January. This will be our first LO. Based on my OPK, my due date should be 25 Feb 2014, but I guess technically I could wind up with a March baby too.
I live in the NYC area and am currently researching my options for delivery to make sure I am comfortable with my ob's hospital (St. Luke's Roosevelt), philosophy, etc. I am floored by the c-section rates at hospitals in this area.
My other concern right now is how to manage this news at my job. I work for a 60-person company, have a relatively senior job there, and will be the first female employee to go on maternity leave.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@ElbieKay: hi! Welcome! There are a few of us Feb mamas who have suffered miscarriage as well and your feelings are normal! We just take it one day at a time. Have you had your first appointment yet?
We have a lot of similarities! I also miscarried in January and I am also in NYC and my OB is at St. Luke's! Bummer we share one of those things but neat we share the other two.
How are you feeling in general?
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@Honeygold89: Thanks!
@AuntieEm: My first appt is tomorrow... Fingers crossed. Tomorrow will be 7w6d. I wanted to schedule it for last week but couldn't find a date that worked for me, my doc and my husband. My boobs are less sore than they were during the week, so suddenly I am feeling nervous even though I know it's a bit irrational. Otherwise I have generally been feeling fine, just a little tired and my appetite spiked for a few weeks but seems back to normal. So far I have been really lucky wrt morning sickness; hopefully that will continue!
How had your pregnancy been going? Which doc are you using? I see Anna Rhee. Are you planning to try for the SLR birth center, or will you stick with regular L&D?
honeydew / 7463 posts
@ElbieKay: Fun! Good luck a tomorrow's appt. Definitely ask your doc if she is willing to see you more often in the first tri. It gave me a lot of comfort considering the past MC. I had an appt at 5.5 weeks, 6.5 weeks and tomorrow at 8.5 weeks. It's will be the farthest I've gotten so hoping in goes well.
I'm feeling ok. I didn't feel MS till 7 weeks. It's been kinda crappy the last week but keep telling myself that it will hopefully be better in a month.
I have Lily Wong as my doc. Love her so far!
I'm undecided about the birthing suites vs L&D. I've been considering going drug free but I'm afraid I'll be miserable and regretting it (since the don't do epidurals at all in the suites). I kinda want the option in case it's unbearable. You?
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
So I spent a big day with family today for a surprise birthday party for my grandmother. I was soooo sleepy so I was kind of staring off into space while everyone was talking, and out of the blue my granny said, "I can tell you're pregnant because of the way your eyes look. First time I've seen it since you told me your pregnant!"
I said, "What? Is it the blank, staring off into space look?"
My sister said "No your face and eyes change when you're pregnant."
I asked them how but they both just shrugged it off as "it just does". Anyone know what they were talking about?
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@AuntieEm: You always have the option of moving to the L&D ward if you change your mind, as long as you don't wait too long.
@Danizaur: Thanks!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@ElbieKay: Ohhhh good to know! I haven't talked to my OB about those options yet so I had no idea. I guess that makes sense though Don't want the suites to feel like a prison.
What time is your appt today? GL! Let us know how it goes.
Mine isn't till 2:45. Time is going to drag!
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@MrsKoala: Thank you! I am starting to feel nervous... fingers crossed.
@AuntieEm: Mine is at 11am. DH and I are working from home this morning and will head out together in about 45 minutes. Good luck this afternoon!

@ElbieKay: Welcome! I am a fellow NYC february mom to be (35 years old). I also had a miscarriage earlier this year so am feeling pretty skittish. I will be delivering at Cornell. If I wasn't coming from IVF and loss, I might have considered "crunchier" alternatives like SLR birthing center. Good luck today!
P.S. I also get your job concerns. I am a graduate level professor and up for tenure this fall. No tenure track or tenured woman has ever taken maternity leave at my school. The last two who had babies about ten years ago took two weeks off. Gulp. Have you told work yet?

Ok so the shopping-for-baby bug has finally bitten. I'm still resisting but "window shopping" online like crazy. I started a nursery Pinterest board (private, of course).
Anyone else starting to get the urge???
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@Danizaur: I've never heard that your face and eyes look different. I don't think I look different. Hmm.. interesting.
@AuntieEm: Oh, yes. I have the urge. DH is holding me back until we have our NT scan. Basically, if everything looks okay then, I'm allowed to start buying things. But I'm aggressively window shopping.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@MrsKoala: Do you use Pinterest??? You should definitely start a private board for your nursery. Its sooo much fun and helps you keep track easily of everything you find from all of the different websites.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@AuntieEm: I do! I started a private baby board but I haven't pinned anything yet. I'm so weirdly superstitious and I just feel weird about pinning until after the scan (this probably has a lot to do with the fact that one of my close friends had a bad NT scan and I'm scared).
honeydew / 7463 posts
@MrsKoala: I hear you! I didn't even LOOK at baby stuff till this past weekend because I was scared. Its not really superstition but more out of fear of getting excited and then disappointed.
But I figure that getting excited creates positive thoughts and positive thoughts can only be good for the little babe
I still haven't even told my parents yet. I think I'll tell them if today's scan goes well, and probably some girlfriends at lunch tomorrow (they all enjoy their beverages and I've already pulled my tricks on them twice. I don't want to push my luck and I just don't feel like trying to hide it anymore).
My doc said that if you have 2 appointments with a good heartbeat the risk of something happening is significantly lower, so that makes me feel better.
pomegranate / 3231 posts
Well we saw the heartbeat today. I was feeling a little nervous before the appointment, but now I feel like I'm about to jump out of my skin! I can't believe I have to spend the afternoon at work. I am so distracted. I'm not sure if I am relieved or even more worried about the NT scan now! My doc recommended the T21 test since I am (only 2.5 months!) over 35. So, we will probably know the gender by 12 weeks or so.
@raintreebee: I have not told my job yet. I am only 8w pregnant. At the very least, I will wait til I get the NT scan back and have had a chance to share the news with family and friends first. But then I also may wait til after the anatomy scan if I manage to keep it hidden that long. I was thinking about finding/starting/reviving a thread for that when I get closer to game time.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@ElbieKay: So happy that you saw a heartbeat! That's so awesome!
@AuntieEm: Our parents don't know either. Only three people know our secret right now and it is killing us not to tell anyone. But we promised each other that we would only tell those three people before 12 weeks.
honeydew / 7463 posts
So today's appointment went ok. Strong fast heartbeat but I'm worried that I was measuring about a week behind what makes sense. The doctor has no worry at all since the "clicks" they make on the screen are +/- 2 days AND she was having trouble getting a shot of the whole baby due to its position (so she's saying it could be bigger than she was able to see on screen).
I don't know, I guess she's saying its really ok and I should trust her but I have a bad experience with measuring small and its scary.
I still just don't feel confident. Definitely not telling my parents now till I have a really reassuring appt.
next one is July 31st. She also gave me the prescription to schedule the NT scan in 4-5 weeks (done at the hospital).
ETA: even if everything is healthy, it's also frustrating to be a week behind where I've been thinking I was. Thought I was 8w5d and she is saying 7w5d. Sorry I'm being a downer.
grapefruit / 4554 posts
@AuntieEm: when I was in for my dating u/s I was till I was two weeks behind what I thought I was. Frustrating yes, but as long as baby is healthy, I'm ok with it
pear / 1531 posts
@AuntieEm: Don't be sorry--this stuff is incredibly stressful. I just wish you didn't have to go through this, especially given your history. But with the combination of just a couple millimeters=a day or so, the inability to see the whole baby, and perhaps some uncertainty about ovulation, a week mismeasurement happens very quickly. At one of my appointments, part of the baby was hiding. Eventually, the doctor was able to to get a better view of the it which instantly increased the measurement by a couple days. But if I tell you not to worry, that doesn't do much good! I will be thinking of you. My new philosophy is to trust the professionals--if they aren't worried then we shouldn't either.
I had a little scare at the end of last week. When I was released from my fertility clinic, they told me to stop my baby aspirin (I have a blood clotting condition). I called back to ask why and they said I have a 2mm x 1mm subchorionic hematoma (which is a blood clot in your uterus near the placenta). I googled all night and got extremely worried after reading HORROR stories. I then called my new OB that morning who I hadn't met and drove 90 minutes to get checked out (I was on vacation upstate). He didn't seem terribly concerned and did the regular exam. Then the next day, I had a tiny bit of pink CM and flipped out. So called him on his cell, and he said it was probably just from the pap. Haven't had anything since (knock on wood). For now, my instructions are just to take it easy--no aerobic exercise, no sex, etc. Hope it goes away soon!
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@AuntieEm: Aw, hang in there AuntieEm. I think it makes sense to trust your doc. Did you calc the 8w5d, or was that from your last scan? Just remember that those calculations are always estimates, plus you could be off by a day or two as well.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@ElbieKay, @raintreebee, @lavender: Thanks ladies I knew all of you would understand and make me feel better.
@raintreebee: Ayayaye. Sorry about your scare! I would totally have freaked out too. You're right though, if the pros aren't worried then we shouldn't be. Worrying doesn't do us much good anyway (easier said than done!) Please keep us updated on things!
@ElbieKay: Thanks for the words of encouragement. The 8w5d was based off of my LMP. Now, I know when I likely ovulated and that's only 2 days later than my LMP estimates my due date.
I don't know, I got my bfp on June 8th which is 8dpo based on temping and OPKs. So it seems highly unlikely that I could be any less than 8w3d. I guess though there is a lot of room for error.
@lavender: You're totally right. And I'm happy if baby is healthy, no matter the due date. I just wish I felt confident.
I was doing so well with pushing my MC fears aside. I guess I'm just extra emotional. Oh, and DH had to cancel on the appt last minute which was also really upsetting. He had a "work emergency". Maybe that just sent me into a poor mood and now I'm mopey
As of right now, new EDD is Feb 27th! Considering there are only 28 days I hope I don't get pushed to March (no offense to those gals I've just gotten so comfy here
honeydew / 7463 posts
@MrsKoala: I forgot to tell you, I asked my doc yesterday about sleeping positions. She said that its OK to sleep however you want till 20 weeks!!! I was surprised by that, but she said that is when (for most women) your belly extends past your hip bones. Until then, your hip bones (while sleeping on your stomach) protect you from "smooshing" anything.
She said 20 weeks is same for back sleeping.
That was surprising to me, but I guess she knows what she's talking about??? She said when in doubt, prior to 20 weeks, if it doesn't 'feel right' then don't do it. So I'm just going to listen to my body and if it puts me at ease (physically or mentally) to sleep on my side before 20 weeks, then I'll do it.
Hope this helps a little!
honeydew / 7463 posts
@MrsKoala: And now that I reread that, belly is probably the wrong word. I think 'uterus' is what I should have said (since we're women and we come in all sorts of shapes and sizes).
Then again, maybe I'm paraphrasing it all wrong. The point is, she said 20 weeks and something about hip bones before that protecting baby. Haha.

@ElbieKay: Welcome and congrats on seeing the heartbeat! It's such a great feeling to see that little heart flickering away!
@AuntieEm: Oh honey, I'm sorry, I know how nerve wracking it is to not have your dates line up with what you thought. Given there was a nice strong heartbeat, I'm guessing your baby was just curled up a bit, not allowing a good view for an accurate measurement. I know exactly what you mean about hearing that you're not as far along as you thought, but you know your body best. If you know your O date and when you tested positive, I'd bet that your next scan will bump you back to what you thought your EDD would be. I'll be thinking of you....
@raintreebee: I'm sorry to hear about your scare as well but glad that everything is ok now! Terms like sub chorionic hematoma sound so scary but I know they're fairly common and not usually an issue. Still, hoping the rest helps and it clears up soon! Great advice by the way on trusting in the professionals! If they're not worried, why should we be?
@MrsKoala: Yep, definitely concur on the sleeping positions! You'll know when it's time to start changing positions - our bodies are really good at waking us up to let us know if we're doing something that's not great for the baby! I'm a stomach sleeper as well and will be doing so until it gets too uncomfortable!
And on that note, it is 2:30 am here and I am suffering from major insomnia. It's the dry season in Australia so there are major bushfires raging everywhere (on the Top End anyway, where I am). The winds have shifted so whilst it was clear when I went to bed, now it is so smoky outside it's like pea soup! I don't have asthma per se (borderline and used to have an inhaler but don't anymore) but we'll just suffice it to say that I'm struggling to breathe right now, hence not being able to sleep. I've just turned the A/C on so hoping it filters out the smoke and let's me breathe, and subsequently sleep soon! < >end whinge
Anyway, hope everyone else is doing well!

@Ree723: aw I hope the ac helps and you can get some rest but I've been dealing with insomnia too lately and ms is just really picking up but not enough be worried but I will bring it up at my next appt.
@ElbieKay: yay for a heartbeat it's the best feeling
