February 2014 Babies!

I have the worst insomnia. It took me an hour to fall asleep, and then I woke up at 3 and it's now 3:30. I was planning to get up at 5:30 to exercise before work but now I don't know if I will make it. Is this pregnancy insomnia, or just regular insomnia?!

@ElbieKay: Oh definitely pregnancy insomnia! I find myself waking up all night and my sleep in general is just not very restful. Hope it goes away soon!!

Ugh, my nerves this week are getting the best of me and making me even more nauseous than usual. I've got a job interview tomorrow and the NT scan on Wednesday... ack.

    @MrsKoala:

Re: insomnia... Even though my doc said 1 cup of coffee per day is fine, I have been limiting myself to decaf 100% of the time. I made an exception for today because I just slept so poorly.

And good luck at your interview and your scan! My NT scan isn't for another three weeks. People complain about the TWW, but then there is the wait til the HB scan, and then the wait til the NT scan. Ugh! Hang in there!

    @MrsKoala: good luck for both.

@ElbieKay: that is so true the wait is a killer.

@ElbieKay: I am having crazy insomnia as well. I have never been a good sleeper, but these days I am up for two hours in the middle of the night without fail. Worst part of pregnancy thus far for me.

@ElbieKay: I know you are doing to the T21 test too. I had mine done on Friday. I will let you know how long the results take since we are in the same geographic area.

Btw, I am also feeling like it is difficult to suck in my stomach. I am 10.5 weeks now and have similar concerns about when to tell work, which I've written about here (although my issues are somewhat idiosyncratic). http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/when-to-tell-work-im-pregnant-academic-calendar-issue
Things have changed a little bit now that I have been diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma, and I'll likely not tell work until just before my semester starts.

@raintreebee: I just read your thread. That is tough. If your employer qualifies for FMLA, then please make sure that they have 30 days notice that you will be out. I am pretty sure that is the requirement, but you should probably verify that before acting on it.

I just read this book regarding maternity-related workplace rights in the U.S. I didn't find it especially help to figure out how to navigate this tough conversation, but it does lay out your rights (and/or lack thereof) as a pregnant and post-partum new mother. There is a state-specific section too. Send me your email address if you want me to scan the pages that are specific to your state and send them to you.

@ElbieKay: @MrsKoala: @raintreebee: Yes me too! I am up 2-4 times a night now to pee and each time I lay there for at least a half hour unable to fall back asleep. Very frustrating!

Anyone else not feel crampy till a certain point? I haven't felt any cramping really until the last 2 days. It's not sharp or particularly painful. Just dull background cramping that happens on and off. Due to my unclear ultrasounds I have no clue how far I actually am. I thought I'd be 10weeks on Weds but I might only be 9 on Weds.
I'm not alarmed or worried, just thought its weird that it took this long for me to feel them (I felt them pretty much from day 1 last time).

Hey ladies, insomnia blows. I didn't really have it last time but this time I do. No advice to offer unfortunately, just commiserating!

@MrsKoala: Good luck with your job interview and the NT scan! We have our NT scan this afternoon and I'm excited/nervous! My ILs are up visiting so we invited them to go along with us....I probably should have called the hospital first to make sure it's ok they come but fingers crossed, it's fine!

@MrsKoala: Thanks! Unfortunately, DH wasn't able to make it because of some work dramas, which made me quite bummed, but it happens I guess.

Anyway, on a positive note, our NT scan was great today!!!! We're actually measuring eight days ahead (what?!?!) so that means a due date of Jan 27th now, but I'm not sure if my doctor will change it or leave it as is. If she goes by the scan, that puts me at 13w 1d, which would be awesome! Our little bubby was so relaxed and chilled out - it was laying on its back most of the time with its arms folded behind its head and its legs froggy style but crossed at the ankles. It also looked as though it was waving at us at times - so very cute! The nuchal folds looked great (1.8 mm - anything under 2.5 is considered lowest risk) but we won't get an official result until we get the blood work back.

It was amazing how similar things were between this baby and DD - they were in almost the exact same positions for the scan, nearly identical nuchal folds, almost the same heart rate, both very chilled....it's making me think this one might be another girl, which would be awesome! Anyway, feeling very relieved and now I can actually start to accept that I am pregnant!

In other news, the pregnancy exhaustion fog seems to have lifted this week and I am actually able to function as a normal human being for the most part! So take heart ladies, your energy really does one back!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

And I have a questions for you ladies at what point do you plan on starting to buy baby things me and DH talked about it last night and said if all goes well at the NT scan we would start buying things like bottle, diapers, and gender neutral small things like that until we find out the sex what do you ladies think?!

  19. MrsKoala

@Ree723: Aw, what a bummer DH couldn't be there!! But so glad to hear that the scan went well. How cool is it that this NT scan was so much like your last one!

@SweetMamaM: I'm nervous about mines too but so ready to see my baby again along with buying things DH doesn't realize it yet but I'm going to make he get started in leaning out his man cave yes he has a man cave and get ready to start transforming it into the nursery and so we have place to store the stuff we will be buying I'm so ready for aug now!

@Honeygold89: me too! I just booked in my NT scan for the 13th, can't wait to see LO again. We've got to rejig around our bedrooms too, but will probably wait til we've told DH's friends so I don't have to do the heavy lugging!

It seems like just yesterday we were all getting positive pregnancy tests! Now it's ultrasound time and now the babies actually look like babies instead of beans!

I get my ultrasound on Thursday! Woo!

I feel like this pregnancy is dragging by so slow...but in hindsight its actually moving pretty quickly. We will be finding out genders before you know it!

@Honeygold89: We are using MY art studio as the nursery instead of the mancave. No fair!

  27. Honeygold89

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@Danizaur: I know time is slowly flying lol.
Aw so not fair but he happily said well the man cave has to go and he just got it all set up in jan because before that it was just a regular guest room but we never have guest that stay over night so I told him he could change it to his man cave but I guess he didn't have a lot of time to get attached to it lol

  28. artsyfartsy

    cantaloupe / 6692 posts

@Honeygold89: Before we were TTC we assumed we would make the man cave the nursery because its right across from our bedroom. But there's more stuff to move out in there and my art studio already has a TV hook up so it made the most sense.

DH never goes in his man cave anyway. He didn't really care. Lol

  29. artsyfartsy

    cantaloupe / 6692 posts

@Honeygold89: Reading through I just now saw your question about buying things. We're probably going to wait until we find out what LO is. I can't wait to decorate the nursery!

Anyone doing a gender reveal party? We're planning on one in September. We won't know either. We're entrusting a friend to get us a baby boy or girl outfit depending on what the ultrasound tech writes down and we're going to open it in front of friends and family and find out all at once! I'm so excited!

  30. Honeygold89

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@Danizaur: that sounds fun and exciting we just decided to get all gender neutral stuff til we find out and that's why we're just going to do the smaller things like bottles and some diapers but once we find out we'll really kick it into gear

@Danizaur: it feels slow to me at times too. But when I think of my friends pregnancies, they seem to be flying by! So strange!

@Danizaur: we're planning to do a gender reveal at the baby shower (which I think we'll have in December, due to summer holidays and people being away on vacation) so hopefully I'll manage to keep the secret for a couple of months

  34. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Honeygold89: I have a feeling we'll wait a little longer to buy things. I might indulge and get one or two things to gawk at while I'm home But I think after 12 weeks I'll start to register.

@Danizaur: I've been thinking about doing this at the shower as a way to avoid getting too many clothes. But I want to know at 20 weeks!

@Honeygold89: I don't think we'll be buying anything just yet either!

NT scan this morning went really well!! Baby Koala has a HB of 179 bpm and is measuring 5 days ahead. The nuchal fold measurement looked good so now it's down to the blood test. I think we are telling everyone this weekend. EEP. And without further ado, meet Baby Koala:
