@ElbieKay: yay I feel the same but I'm actually calm since my last appt early this month but I'm so ready for the NT and will feel even better then plus like I say we'll start on the baby room just a little then! How can they tell the gender at 12 weeks?

@Danizaur: Yay Babyzaur!!!! And I LOVE the chalkboard!!
@SweetiePie: So fun to have a friend due so close to you! A close friend of mine is due in November and it's so nice to be able to talk to her about all things pregnancy.
@citymouse: Ahhh so cool to feel your friend's baby kick! In just a couple months, that will be us!!
@SweetMamaM: Ouch! I have that occasionally at night, too!
@erinpye: So glad to hear that the Zofran is still working. I'm hoping you won't need it for much longer.
@ElbieKay: Hearing the heartbeat is so neat!!! Hoping the T21 results come back great (and soon!).

We went public this weekend to our family. MIL has been a bit crazy at times... but it was fun talking to my family about baby! Now we just have to tell the friends in the next couple of weeks!! This is making it feel real.

@Honeygold89: The T21 test can tell you the gender. I got the blood draw for it this morning (10w1d) and will have the results in about 2 weeks.

@ElbieKay: oh ok let me know how that goes it sounds interesting I might as my MW about it at my next appt

@MrsKoala: We have started to tell Family this week as well! Reactions have been mixed, but as expected so no feelings have been hurt! Other than the small remarks about noticing me "losing my skinny-ness." Gee thanks family!! Haha. I wouldn't have called myself "skinny" but my waist has thickened, so I guess I understand.
Will start telling friends after 13 weeks next Sunday!

@citymouse: awwww boo on the comments about your body. My MIL came up to me after we announced and started rubbing my belly fat that I can no longer suck in (I didn't have a flat stomach before but I could suck it in with the best of them). Thta was a very uncomfortable experience.
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@MrsKoala: My stomach has exactly the same issue right now -- can no longer hide the flab, ugh! If anyone other than my husband or my doctor tries to touch my pregnant belly, they are in for a surprise. I will not be receptive to that at all.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@ElbieKay: It's awful, huh? Someone told me I was showing yesterday and I wanted to run away and cry.

So, I am not a mushy person at all. I was a math major in college. I work in the financial industry. I have a very dry sense of humor and even sometimes can get a little tasteless/insensitive -- I generally keep this to myself and/or my very closest friends and husband -- when I'm feeling especially cynical.
But I can't stop thinking about the fact that I saw the baby's arm wave during the ultrasound today. I took video of the heartbeat to email to my husband, but I didn't take video of the waving and now I am bummed. WTH is happening to me?
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@MrsKoala: I need another empire sundress or three.
Five more weeks at the office. Then a week of vacation. Then an early anatomy scan -- hopefully I can schedule it my first day back -- and then I will tell my bosses. I hope I can hide it that long. At least I am tall and kind of broad-shouldered and slightly heavy (BMI between 25-26).
Ideally I would wait another 4 weeks after that -- at the final anatomy scan -- to tell my coworkers more broadly, but I think it's unlikely that I'll be able to hide it that long.

@ElbieKay: I bet you can get creative at disguising that bump. My SIL did not tell anyone she was pregnant until AFTER the birth. Although she wore a lot of big coats and wasn't working at the time. I plan on telling work in a couple weeks. I can't believe I have to likely wait another week for the T21 results! Agghh! My NT scan is tomorrow so I was hoping to have them by then as a double check on the results... And even the most cynical person will melt at these ultrasounds!

I told my employer today at 10 weeks, it was getting to the point of being beyond obvious.... It's true when they say you pop the second time around. Good news is the nausea is gone yay!

@raintreebee: what?? AFTER she gave birth?! Was that weird? Sorry for prying but that is so fascinating!
pear / 1743 posts
@raintreebee: @citymouse: I agree... What? After she actually had the baby? I'm managing to disguise my little bump well...I joke with my husband that it's just filling the skin where my fat used to be (lost 17 kilos in the last couple of years). Still, I don't think I'll be able to get away with that my whole pregnancy.
On another note I am ridiculously hungry today! I have eaten so much and still hanging out for DH to come home so we can have dinner.
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@SweetMamaM: I actually lost a pound between weeks 8 and 10. My doc was pleased about that yesterday. I started the pregnancy about 10-15 lbs above my target weight, so I am trying to cut back on calories. Luckily I have not been too hungry. And while I have been REALLY lucky with respect to morning sickness so far -- knock wood -- I feel nauseous if I overeat now that I'm pregnant. So that has helped a lot in terms of cutting back.
My mom is pretty severely overweight (technically probably obese), and that started after she had her second of two babies at age 33.5. I will give birth when I am almost 37. Trying to avoid following in her footsteps especially since I seem to have inherited a lot of her other physical characteristics. I really feel gross even with the extra 10-15 lbs and do not want to get caught in that spiral.
Of course, despite being down a pound, I still had to use a wider belt buckle last week. Oy!
pear / 1743 posts
@ElbieKay: tell me about it! I've maintained my pre-preg weight (I was still overweight at the start of my pregnancy) and a lot of my clothes are actually looser - except around the tum! I've always been a "fat all over" proportionate weight gainer so it's an absolutely bizarre feeling to have a "gut" for a first time. Not used to it at all!
My hope is that after this pregnancy I lose to my lowest weight, and then another 9 kilos to get to my goal weight. I feel bad for thinking about that already, but health-wise it will be really important for me to get back to that point.

I'm due late Feb too although I'm thinking LO may come in March. I look about 5 months pregnant though due to bloating... every morning I look normalish and after eating POOF.

Is anyone taking bump pictures? We just started at Week 11, but Im afraid to post them because I don't want anyone to recognize me on here! I love the anonymity behind my username. Thoughts? Just get over it?
ETA: Im a Photographer/Blogger so its more than just friends and family who could recognize me and read my posts!
@Mrs Music: Welcome! Our board is better than the March board anyway Just kidding!
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@citymouse: Make a Gold board for bump pictures if you want a little extra privacy.
I am not taking them (yet? ever? unsure) because right now there is a little stomach pooch covering my bump. It only appeared within the past year and makes me self conscious.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@citymouse: I've taken a couple so I can get an idea of progression later on and I tried to subtly cover my face with my phone just in case I decide to post on the Bump Thread. If some people have Gold/are interested, we could do a Gold Feb Bump thread.
@raintreebee: I can't believe she hid it for that long!! That's amazing! Hope the NT scan went well today!!
@Mrs Music: Welcome!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@MrsKoala: @ElbieKay: Someone at work said, "Wow, to be 10 weeks you're already showing a lot?"
I literally said "Actually that's just fat and bloat. Thanks." It shut them up lol.
I've gained 4 pounds so far. Ugh. I lost 13 back around January. I'm not overweight but have always been very curvy and "soft".
@citymouse: I've been taking them every 2 weeks since week 4. Granted they all look the same...but I do a pregnancy update every 2 weeks in my journal I'm working on so I get a picture just because.
Update for me:
Well at 10 weeks 4 days my symptoms have gotten worse all of the sudden! I've only puked once my whole pregnancy and over the weekend I puked 3 times. I'm napping for 4 hours a day (literally) now. Headaches galore. I'm hoping it will let up soon!
persimmon / 1116 posts
@Danizaur: I read that headaches can take the place of some First Trimester symptoms, in the 2nd Tri! Pregnancy is weird!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@citymouse: Pregnancy is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.
But in a good way. Lol
persimmon / 1295 posts
@lavender: I am also having the second time popping early situation!
@Danizaur: ugh. What a terrible weekend. I hate throwing up so much
cherry / 209 posts
Thanks for all the welcomes
@DANIZAUR: Me too! Puked once the whole time then 3 times over the weekend as well!! I've only just hit 10 weeks today so I'm really hoping it gets better soon... I've had headaches the entire time though although I think those are either getting better or I'm getting immune.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@Mrs Music: No puking today. I feel much better. Maybe it has to get really bad before it starts to get better?
Second trimester...I'm ready for you!!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
@Mrs Music: Welcome! It's so nice to have another Feb momma join us!
@Danizaur: Oh no! Apparently 9-10 weeks is the peak of it and then the placenta starts taking over, which should make things calm down. Really hoping it gets better for you soon!
@IcebergMom: @lavender: Yeah, the second time popping early thing really is true! So far, at 14 weeks, I thought I was doing ok (still a mostly flat tummy) but just this morning, I noticed love handles!!! Wtf?! I've never had love handles in my life! And I just remarked to DH last night that my underwear doesn't feel like it's fitting properly anymore so clearly my butt is getting bigger too. Sigh. I'm just going to keep reminding myself that all the weight fell off the first time and it will do so again after this LO....
@citymouse: Is the general bump thread gold or standard? I can't remember now, but what I always did last time was held the phone in front of my face so you couldn't see who I was anyway. Also, I remember a number of others cropping their photos or blurring their faces to keep a bit of privacy. I definitely don't think it's weird to protect your privacy on the interwebs! I'll probably do the same again this time.
I'm still waiting on the blood test results from my NT scan last week. They had to be sent to another state (this is what happens when you live in the middle of nowhere Australia) so it's going to take 7-10 days for them to come back. Argh. My poor GP, I've been pestering her like mad because I want to know. The nuchal folds looked good, so we went ahead and made the public pregnancy announcement to our family and friends, but my information hungry/number crunching/analytical side wants the concrete numbers ASAP!
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well!

@Mrs Music: Welcome to the board. Stay with us! Gotta go with the due date!
Ok it's too hard to do the "replies" on an iPad so I'll just address everything generally, ha.
I'm also worried about weight gain. First of all because I'm a pretty fit person but this trimester I've been to the gym once. I just have no energy and feel too nauseous and blah. As a result I've already gained 5 lbs! Ugh. I thought you aren't supposed to gain anything in the first tri! Granted my boobs are enormous so I'll attribute a couple pounds to that (wishful thinking). Secondly, I have awesomely bad hips. So I have to be careful about weight gain to try and avoid bed rest later on. I'm finally starting to feel better so I'm hoping in the next week to start some light jogging and weights again.
@citymouse: I was taking bump pics weeks 6 through 8. But after my last appt when I no longer knew how far along I was, I stopped. Hoping I can start them up again tomorrow.
@erinpye: so glad you're feeling better. Hoping it continues
Tomorrow is another ultrasound to check on progress. She said last time that this appt she will DEF be able to give me a due date. I just hope he or she has been growing and isn't hiding in the corner of my uterus again so we can get a good measurement this time
Hope everyone is doing well overall!
pear / 1743 posts
@citymouse: I'm not taking them yet, at 10+2 I still just have a glorified fat roll! I'm thinking we'll take them every four weeks from Week 12.
cherry / 209 posts
@SweetiePie: I was also going to the gym prior to my holiday... I've been once since finding out I was preggers just to see what I was able and not able to do with my trainer... so slack. I don't think I've put on weight though cos I can't seem to eat alot... I'm asian and I can't eat asian food!! Even though I haven't gained weight my tummy is always bloated like a 5 month pregnant lady and I already had to buy a bigger bra (and after buying so many nice Victoria Secret ones in the USA Husband was not impressed).
There is actually a lady at church who is due in December... I swear I look as big as her already (although she was a skinny thing and I wasn't super skinny to start off with).

@SweetiePie: thank you
Am I the only one who opted out of the NT scan? We did last time, too. I have to admit it's a bummer not getting to see baby on an ultrasound between 8 and 18/20 weeks, but we just prefer not to do the testing.
Worried about TRYING to gain weight here (or at least maintain)- only time in my life I ever have this problem is when pregnant. The profuse vomiting has subsided thanks to Zofran, but I'm still having trouble eating and am down 4 lbs., but the bump is as big as I was at 18+ weeks with my first.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@erinpye: We opted out too. Actually our doctor didn't even offer it to us, but we would have turned it down anyway.
persimmon / 1116 posts
@erinpye: Nope, we opted out as well! I asked about it a cpl pages back bc I was thinking the same thing: are we the only ones! Haha!
persimmon / 1116 posts
@Ree723: @MrsKoala: We are taking them a little differently, mostly bc Im a professional photographer and I like things like this. So we go out every week to a spot we found and take them. No way to really hide myself.
Ill think on making a gold thread for 2014 Mamas.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@erinpye: DH wanted to opt out at first. But then I explained that if there's a strong likelihood that our child will have special needs I want to be prepared for that. It won't change our decisions or our love, but I'd rather be prepared and do what research I can. DH and I both have special needs in our families (I have an uncle with downs who lived with us and he had a brother with brain damage from birth) so we both understand that the love is the same but the care is different.
But I totally understand the reasons for not testing too. Just sharing our personal experience. If we didn't both have that experience I'm not sure what we would choose to do.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
@Danizaur: @citymouse: Pregnancy is totally weird.
@SweetiePie: Hope the ultrasound goes well today!!
@citymouse: Ahhhh.. that makes sense that you would want to do something a little nicer than iPhone pics! If you start a Gold thread, I would probably post. I'm still hesitant about posting on the general one because I'm afraid someone will find me.
I'm still feeling sick.. yesterday was pretty bad. Everyone keeps telling me I'll feel better in two weeks and I really hope they are right!!!
grapefruit / 4554 posts
@erinpye: the only reason I'm doing the NT scan is so I can see the baby, my and DH's family both have a very low risk for special needs.
pear / 1531 posts
@citymouse: @SweetMamaM: @MrsKoala: Yes, she hid it from nearly all of their friends. It was odd, at least in my view, but I think she was super paranoid! I think she mostly hid at home the last month or so, and did have kind of a belly to begin with and carried the baby "tightly." I have a peculiar family. I couldn't tell anyone about it so all of my friends thought I was strange when the announcement came!
@citymouse: a gold bump thread is a great idea! i always wondered why the other one wasn't gold.
I had the NT scan yesterday. Everything looked great except my pesky subchorionic hematoma that is lurking around. So still on pelvic rest and generally instructed to "take it easy". Wish so badly I could exercise to help my insomnia. Still waiting on my T21 results, which tell the gender and give more reassurance on Down's, etc. Any day now.
