@MrsKoala: what a cutie! Oh that makes me so excited for mine!

I got screened for a boatload of genetic diseases due to my ethnicity. My ob just called, and I am a carrier for a disease that I had never heard of before. My husband does not share my ethnicity, so I doubt he has it, but he needs to be screened now. Good times.

@SweetiePie: @Danizaur: @Honeygold89: @SweetMamaM: Thanks, ladies! It's so cool when the baby really looks like a baby! Baby Koala had his/her hands up by their head and a couple times moved its arms and looked like it was waving. I just melted.

@citymouse: I saw the measurements on the U/S showing that I was measuring 12w4d. I don't know they are officially changing the date or not since no one mentioned it. Maybe I'll see at my next OB appointment tomorrow.

@ElbieKay: Aw, that sucks but the good news is that it's highly unlikely he's a carrier as well.

@MrsKoala: Thanks, glad to hear that your NT scan went well!

@ElbieKay: Oh no! That must be scary but hopefully it's a nonissue. Did they say that it's only an issue if DH is a carrier as well?

  6. ElbieKay

    pomegranate / 3231 posts

@SweetiePie: My doc implied it, and that tied out with Wikipedia too. It's a recessive gene, so if we both have it then there is a 25% chance of it affecting the baby. But it also said that 1/100 people in the U.S. have it. So, really there is a 99% chance that it's a non-issue.

@ElbieKay: aw hope everything goes well but if you don't mind me asking just out of curiosity and not being rude or anything what's you ethnicity you can post to my wall you like

  8. ElbieKay

    @Honeygold89: I'm an Ashkenazi Jew.

  9. Honeygold89

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@ElbieKay: oh ok I did read that at my first ob appt and about how each ethnicity has its risk like I'm mixed African American and German and I don't know about the German side but sickle cell runs in African Americans so they tested me and DH for that just incase but like I say I'm hoping it goes fine for you guys

@MrsKoala: so did they say when you'll do you anatomy scan

  11. ElbieKay

    pomegranate / 3231 posts

@Honeygold89: Yep, exactly. Tay-Sachs is probably the most well known genetic disease that is common to Ashkenazi Jews, but there are a bunch of others and apparently I carry one of them!

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@ElbieKay: yeah I heard of that one it was one the list when I was looking it over but at least your DH isn't really a carrier of it so it give your little one a good chance

@Honeygold89: He's going to get a blood test tomorrow so we should know in another couple of weeks.

@IcebergMom: ugh I'm with you on that one... Meant to be getting some work done (school holidays here) but feel so lethargic.

Thanks for all the kind words on the NT scan! I've been staring at the pics nonstop since we got them! I didn't get my blood test done until yesterday morning (the day after the scan) and found out it's going to be 10-12 working days before the results come back! That sounds ludicrous to me so I need to call my GP and see if she thinks that sounds right. Regardless, I'm feeling pretty confident after the scan so I think I'm going to go ahead and start telling people tomorrow or this weekend.

@MrsKoala: So glad you had a good NT scan as well! Isn't it crazy how much you can see and how much they move around in there? I think they're trying to make the most of their real estate now because before long, it starts getting a wee bit cramped in there!

@ElbieKay: Hoping everything turns out well with the genetic testing! The odds are definitely in your favour so I'm feeling positive for you!

@IcebergMom: Blah! No fun! How long until you're out of the first tri? I swear, this week has been a major turning point for me! Before this week, just getting off the couch required a Herculean effort, now I'm running around like a mad thing with an almost insane amount of energy! I don't know if I'm 12+2 or 13+3 now as I thought I was the former, but the NT scan has me measuring 8 days ahead, which would actually correlate more with my early pregnancy tests, so it may actually be the latter. Just waiting to see if my GP adjusts my due date or not (I hope so but we'll see!)

Anyone have any cute ideas for announcing the baby? I'm trying to think of something cute I can do with my 13 month old announcing she's going to be a big sister, but I'm drawing a blank....

@Ree723: Assuming all goes well with today's appointment, we're going to put it on FB finally. I'm thinking of just posting this picture with no explanation to see what people say. Lol

This is my chalkboard in my kitchen. I did it a month ago.

@Danizaur: So cute!!!! I'm not artistic so maybe I'll have something made with a similar theme...but only to give our parents. I'm not sure if I'm going to do a FB announcement.

So last night I went to dinner with a really good friend of mine. She too suffered a MC a while back (almost 2 years ago) and she has been on and off TTC since. We always shared our struggles and fears and emotions...and last night she told me she's pregnant! She just hit 12 weeks. The last time I saw her in person she was waiting to POAS and it turns out she was pregnant! I am almost happier for her pregnancy than my own Its been a struggle for them and I'm so happy they have a healthy baby on the way. And its just amazing that we're about 2-3 weeks apart. AND if my due date of Feb 19 sticks its her birthday! We've decided to have a weekly pow-wow to talk about how we're feeling. I'm just so excited for her!

@SweetiePie: That's so sweet! So glad for her!!!

We put it on FB that we were expecting. Have a lot of close friends from high school that I want them to know and don't see them enough in everyday life to tell them. Glad to have it out in the open now!

So exciting that people are starting to announce! I think we're going to tell our jobs at thirteen weeks but potentially not put it on Facebook until a week or so after that so we can tell more people face-to-face first I'm looking forward to telling my home room students - I'm like their school mum so they are going to flip out!

  28. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

@Danizaur: I think you are just ahead of me (a couple of days) so it's very cool to see your scan and know that's kinda what my little olive looks like!

@SweetMamaM: It was so moving to see LO for the first time. I didn't get an early ultrasound so this is my first time seeing him/her. For some reason I kept thinking that today they wouldn't find anything and I would have just been crazy this whole time, so I was actually surprised that little bean popped right up!

I teared up when I heard the heartbeat. It was so amazing. I don't want to wait 9 more weeks to see him/her again. Lol

  30. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

@Danizaur: I know the feeling. I was pretty sure that when I went in for my first scan they were going to say "You crazy lady, you're not pregnant!". Now I feel like I'm going to go in and something won't be right - I'm such a worrywart! Two and a half weeks to go til I get to see my littlefoot!

  31. artsyfartsy

    cantaloupe / 6692 posts

@SweetMamaM: Lol that made me laugh! DH thought I was crazy when I told him I was afraid that would happen and he thought it was silly! Although I was rational, I still had that nagging thought that maybe it was all in my head.

Relieved to know that it's not! Lol

Excited for you to see your LO. It was amazing. I'm sure everything is fine!!

I got to feel my BFF's baby last night!! She is 19 weeks tomorrow. She had me pressing on her belly and we felt the biggest kick! I squealed and jumped. Makes me so excited to start feeling the baby move and for DH to be able to feel it!

I think LO is trying to kill my sleep before they even get here. Woke up this morning with a big ache in my groin. 10 weeks today and I think my little prune is trying to establish more room down there.... Ouch!

@citymouse: aw I think we are all ready for that I so can't wait!

Back at the ob this morning, waiting in a gown for her to pop in. I am really here for a T21 blood test but she said she'll do another heartbeat scan. I was fine for the past two weeks but am suddenly really nervous!!!

  38. ElbieKay

    pomegranate / 3231 posts

Aaaand, everything's fine. I heard the heartbeat for the first time!

    NT scan in 2 weeks.

@ElbieKay: yay! Did she say how long for the T21 results? Still waiting on mine and had mine done a week ago Friday.

  40. ElbieKay

    pomegranate / 3231 posts

@raintreebee: She said it will be around two weeks, so you probably have another week to go.

I can't wait to get past that and the NT scan. I feel like I will be able to be less apprehensive then. But I'm sure there will be something else to worry about then!

ETA: Isn't it trippy that we can learn the gender at 12 weeks?!
