February 2014 Babies!

@SweetMamaM: Oh wow, I'm sorry! I'm glad little baby is moving around and all is good in there, but that must have been so scary!

@Danizaur: We didn't cloth diaper with LO and probably won't with this one either. If we do, we won't start until later (6+ months) and would do the pre-fits with bamboo liners that are flushable. Realistically though, no, I see us sticking with our Huggies!

@Mrs Music: Speaking from experience here, I'd say buy a proper nappy bag and buy a nice one! Yes, they're godawful expensive here, but as someone who went with cheaper options and is now on nappy bag #5 in 15 months, it's so much better to suck the cost up and splurge at the start. I've finally just ordered a fairly pricy Timi & Leslie bag (which will be bag #6, ugh!) for when baby #2 gets here, but I wish I had just ordered it at the start, instead of spending a few hundred dollars on different bags that never quite met my needs! Also, I know the CR bags you're talking about and honestly, I think those will be too big, and more to the point, somewhat inconvenient. You probably won't want to be digging around inside that huge compartment every time you need something. One of the nice things about a nappy bag is that it has loads of internal and external pockets, so grabbing a dummy, blanket, keys, wallet, whatever, can be done with one hand, without having to put the bag down. Just my opinion though! Also, bags are significantly, significantly cheaper in the US, so may be worth scouring Amazon to find a seller who ships to Australia!

@SweetMamaM: Oh no!! I'm glad all is okay with your little wriggler!!

@Danizaur: We're debating cloth but I'm not sure how feasible it will be with daycare, etc. If not cloth, then probably one of the more ecofriendly dipes but I'm overwhelmed by the different brands out there.

What diaper bags is everyone getting/hoping to get? I am so conflicted over it. The one I *really* want is $180. That seems so ridiculous to me as I troll craigslist for cribs. DH would also like us to be able to share one. So I was looking at Skip Hop bags as they are much less expensive and have some good neutral options. That other bag is still whispering to me though...

@citymouse: Thanks for the link! As for diaper bags, I really really like the Kate Spade Stevie bags but I cannot bring myself to spend that much. I'm debating going to the outlets to see if there might a good deal on one so that I don't feel so guilty.

@citymouse: I have a Vera Bradley diaper bag that I don't really love, but I still use it anyways. I'm eyeing the Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack but can't bring myself to buy another diaper bag (this will be my third) but I want something hands free!

Well its a rainy day here. Enjoying my LO's first case of the hiccups that I have felt. Hoping the rain stops.

Anybody else LO's have the hiccups yet?

@citymouse: I know, right! I was a little surprised how expensive they were! The one currently on our registry is $249 (NZD) - the "So Young Charlie Nappy Bag". Very neutral so hubby can use it as well.

@littleblessings: Still waiting for that, but I have a flipper today. Rolling and rolling and rolling!

SweetMamaM- Glad to hear your little one is being active! I hope your bruises and such heal up soon. Very scary!

We haven't started baby shopping much yet (we're getting a TON of hand-me-downs from friends and co-workers). I do know we'll likely go with a backpack as a diaper bag ($50 max). We're pretty thrifty, so I try to avoid even browsing the super-cute but spendy stuff so I don't get tempted. Hehe.

@MrsKoala: I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to stay at home or not. If I go back to work I may just settle on disposables for the convenience of day care and relatives. If I stay home though I will most likely use cloth.

@Danizaur: we cloth diaper our 2 yo but we're pretty causal about it. I don't take them traveling and we use disposables for day trips.

@citymouse: I have the skip hop bento and I really like it. My zipper is a bit broken now but I still like the look of it so we'll use it for number two

@SweetMamaM: I think it's smart to wait a few moths before cloth diapering. Give yourself a bit of a break and newborns go through so many diapers! The laundry would be insane. We started at month 3 when we moved into our house.

I've got the Timi and Leslie Jessica bag arriving next week when my mom comes over for a visit - can't wait!

I have just been so out of sorts today and had to have two dozey naps... It played havoc with the work I was intending to do today but I just felt utterly tired and miserable. It makes me very nervous for the next term of teaching - what if I have more off days? I'm hoping it's a lack of sleep from my sore leg and I'll be back on the ball tomorrow.

@SweetMamaM: I've been back in that utterly tired and miserable stage too. It doesn't help that work is super slow at the moment with nothing to keep me distracted so I'm basically a zombie all day long.

Y'all. Life is so funny. The day I posted about the diaper bags, I was scrolling through Craigslist and lo and behold is the Green Skip Hop bag I posted for $30.00. I offered $25.00 and picked it up this morning.

I want the JuJuBe even MORE now that we got the other one for basically nothing.

I'm feeling him move regularly so I'm not worried but I'm still barely feeling his movements and not often. If I hadn't known by now, I would be suspecting I have an anterior placenta. Just wish I could feel him more and that DH could too.

@citymouse: @Danizaur: I feel like I wake up at least six times a night, whenever I roll over! I'm not ready for the sleep deprivation just yet!

  22. artsyfartsy

    cantaloupe / 6692 posts

@SweetMamaM: Yup yup me too! It's not fair! We should be able to get huge amounts of sleep...since we won't get much once LOs arrive.

@Danizaur: I've just bought a Belly Bean pillow - doing some reading up, women with wide-set pelvises tend to have more discomfort side-sleeping because there is more strain on our belly muscles when we turn. Would explain why I wake up every time I turn.

    @SweetMamaM: that might be me.

LO has decided that its hilarious to move and kick when I'm the only one around to feel it. I think its got DH's sense of humour...

    @citymouse: Craigslist win!

@SweetMamaM: I can't gracefully roll over anymore, so I feel like I wake up a lot more now than I used to. In reality, I'm sure I'm flip flopping only as much as I had been, but it's just not something I can stay asleep for now since it's a multi-step process. LOL.

@Mrs Music: Mine, too! I tell DH that baby is just a hide and seek champ. I swear LO hears when I call DH over to feel the kicks and knows the difference between our hands. Thankfully we've got a little martial artist in there so DH can at least watch the kicks for now. Ha!

Most of you have found out the baby's sex by now. We find out tomorrow, but I'm almost a little sad that my "mystery" is going to be done tomorrow. I do like having my little secret baby, although I'm much more excited to have DH be able to relate to the wee one more. Did anyone else that found out feel a tinge sad about the mystery being over?

@indi: Yup! I felt like I was dying of anticipation waiting to know...but I thought back the other day to when I was wondering if it was a boy or girl and thought how wonderful that excitement was.

But I've so bonded with my little boy now. I wouldn't trade it!

Happy gender day! I'm excited to find out! My guess is a girl!

Also my belly button is starting to flatten out already. I just barely have to pull at my skin and it goes completely flat. Ah!

@Danizaur: @Mrs Music: @Honeygold89: @MrsKoala: Thanks, ladies! Our ultrasound took a little longer because LO was munching on feet and wiggling and kicking all over. We spent 10 minutes at the end trying to get all the heart measurements the tech needed...she gave up on getting the last one. I guess we have a stubborn wee one!

And we ALMOST had to wait until December to check again because LO was far more interested in dancing for us than cooperating in letting us take a peek, but we found out that Little Indi is.....

A GIRL! We are so darn excited! You were right, danizaur!

@Honeygold89: Thanks! The IRL guesses were about 50/50, so it's fun to see why people thought what they did.

@SweetMamaM: So fussy already, those kids!

@Mrs Music: I hope your LO cooperates! Mine was feisty!! It was really cool, though. Definitely fun.

And our 3D is scheduled for DH's birthday, so that'll be a treat for him.

@Mrs Music: @danizaur: can definitely recommend the belly bean pillow. Much less pain at night. You sleep in between the two connected cushions so you're supported no matter which way you roll.
