Ha! It's hard posting between the two boards. I have a doctor appointment today. I have been hurting really bad, nothing this far out like during my first pregnancy. Hurts to stand, hurts to sit, terrible low back pain, a lot of nagging pain on my side, pain when I cough...not sure how long I can take it! Curious what my doctor will say.

@matador84: Sorry you're hurting so much!! This is my first pregnancy but I'm having absolutely terrible lower back pain. It was so bad a week ago when they started they sent me to L&D because they were afraid it was early labor Nope, just pain. I hope your doctor figures out some ways to help relieve yours!!

@ILoveLettie: Yep, I am pretty sure I am just going to have to deal. Nothing like contractions, but if it were my first pregnancy--I would have thought it was pre-term labor! I might be able to swing a massage this weekend and maybe that will help!

Is anyone else considering a lateish change in care provider? I am meeting with a prospective provider in NJ on Thursday. I don't mind my OB, but I don't think I want to deliver in a NYC hospital. They are too factory-like and potentially very crowded. I reeeeeeeally don't want a roommate in my postpartum room, nor do I want to pay $900/night and even then risk not having a private room available. We toured St. Luke's last night, and one of the shared rooms had like 10 relatives in it. What if that was my roommate? And I want my husband to be able to spend the night with me.

I have my GD test tomorrow, so I am going to tell my doc about this then. I'm not looking forward to the conversation but hopefully she won't take it personally. It really has nothing to do with her.

@citymouse: aw I hope everything goes good and it's not pre-e.
And as for the weight loss I plan on just trying to eat as good as possible since I'll be EBF too and going back to the gym with DH as soon as possible.

@OldEnglandMama: yay how sweet was that

@matador84: aw I hope you feel better soon I know Saturday I felt like hell with my tail bone killing me and my feet and lower back but when I woke up Sunday it all was gone

@ElbieKay: I'm not but I don't blame you cause that's why I choose the hospital I plan to delivery at because of the private rooms and baby stay from beginning til end with you unless something is wrong plus DH gets to stay too. We do our tour dec 16th so good luck to you

Does anyone else LO have hiccups a couple times a day? N gets them all the time in short bursts tho

@ElbieKay: I can totally see why you would want to change, and I'm sure your doctor will understand if you tell him/her it's not about them, it's about the hospital. One of the main reasons I chose my OB practice was that the hospital connected to it is SMALL. Like, there are only 3 delivery rooms, it is in a small town, and usually you are the only one delivering at any given time. Small small small. I can't imagine having to be in a shared postpartum room with that many people!! I'd have massive panic attacks for sure (social anxiety).

@matador84: Oh no! I hope your doctor is able to figure out why you are in pain! And you just reminded me to schedule a massage. I hope you are able to get one, too!

@ElbieKay: I don't blame you for wanting to switch. Im sure your doctor will be understanding.
I'm pretty pleased with our hospital choice so far. I've only seen my actual doctor once this whole time and that kind of bugs me. But I like his PA. I see her almost every time. So that's okay.

Just got done with my appointment! Sugar test wasn't so bad. The orange drink was actually pretty good! My blood pressure is good and his heart rate is 156. My weight gain is getting in the high end though but they didn't seem too concerned. I go back in 4 weeks for a checkup and then 2 weeks after that I get my big ultrasound! Yay! It's about time for twice monthly appointments. Can't believe it!

I get my sugar test results tomorrow. I'll update again then.

    @ElbieKay: I forget--do you live in NJ?

  11. ElbieKay

    pomegranate / 3231 posts

@raintreebee: Yes, I live in Hoboken. My Bradley teacher has recommended providers at Mountainside, Overlook and Holy Name. I think we are going to focus on Overlook first since they have a L3 NICU which hopefully we won't need! I have a consult with a midwife there on Thursday.

In other news, I just had this conversation with my insurance company:

Me: "Do you cover lactation consultants?"
Clueless Guy: <confusing, vague answer that ends with...> "if the doctor is in network."
Me: "This is not a service normally provided by an MD."
Clueless Guy: "Well, I'm using the term 'doctor' loosely."

@ElbieKay: If it makes you feel any better, I had a shared postpartum room after the birth of my LO and it was perfectly fine. Visiting hours are twice per day in three hour blocks, although partners are allowed to stay as long as they want. Technically, partners aren't supposed to stay overnight, but that is more of a rule that is there if they need to enforce it (ie disruptive or unsupportive partners) and not something they care about if your partner is helping out. We had a curtain drawn between my bed and my roommate's bed the whole time and it was seriously no big deal. I was in for 36 hours after my Lo's birth, as was my roommate but we never even saw or spoke to each other! I could hear her on the other side of the curtain but she was doing her thing and I was doing mine. Just something to consider - if you really love your provider, sharing a room for a night or two is honestly not that big of a deal.

@ElbieKay: I am at Mt. Sinai, where I think it is a bit more likely to get private rooms than at other NYC hospitals. It is a frustrating situation though--not knowing what your experience will be like. I can see why you would want to switch to NJ. We are debating whether or not to take a trip to Philadelphia in December. I told DH that, if something happens, I would probably prefer to give birth at a non-NYC hospital anyway! I wouldn't be too concerned about the continuity of care--I think you could get a doctor up to speed pretty quickly. I would just be afraid that you won't like the new doc as much. So maybe you could do a consultation before switching?

@MrsKoala: I'm probably going to get a maternity belt at his suggestion to help with the pain. I'm definitely scheduling a massage but holding off on a chiro.

@lavender: Yes I am asian. I'm still negotiating with my parents.. will do the diet, will try not to go out... but there is no way I am not showering or washing my hair for a month.

@matador84: I have alot of pain too. Part of mine is a previous tailbone injury which pregnancy has aggravated.

@Honeygold89: I can't actually tell when they are hiccups or not... I still haven't worked out alot of the differences in movements... I just know them as 'kicking' and 'crawling' (which is where it feels like something under my skin is crawling around like out of some sci fi movie)

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@Mrs Music: at first I couldn't tell either but now I can't definitely tell because it's like a sort of jumping feeling back to back and I love to feel him move across my belly that's the best for me it makes me think he's in there swimming lol

Finished up my last major deadline at work - three weeks left to tie up loose ends. I am beyond relieved as I am rapidly running out of steam and desperate for some time to just enjoy my pregnancy before baby arrives. Hooray for finishing things up

So my little boy likes to rub his head around my rib cage area causing horrible pains. He refuses to be head down at the moment.

Also, got notification that a 3 bedroom apt is opening the day before my birthday and it might be mine. =) Got my fingers crossed praying that it is mine! I'm so close to getting an apartment I can almost feel the carpet beneath my feet. Lol

@matador84: I hope the maternity belt works! I've been going to a chiro for the past two weeks and it has really helped just to put my two cents in.

    @SweetMamaM: Yay for finishing up!

    @littleblessings: FX on the apartment!

@Danizaur: Congrats on passing your sugar test! I took mine a week and a half ago and assume I passed because they never called me to take the 3 hr...? And I think they would if I failed...?

@SweetMamaM: Yay for finishing things up! I'm with you on that boat...I'm a grad student and we have 2 more classes left in the semester, so TONS of final papers that need writing...and I have TONS of motivation. Oh well, at least I have the whole week of Thanksgiving off and hopefully I'll get them done then!!

@ILoveLettie: oooh wishing you luck for that! I've just submitted my professional portfolio (part of being a registered teacher here) so I feel your pain on the screeds of paperwork. I feel like it would have taken half the time if I wasn't pregnant!

    cantaloupe / 6692 posts

@ILoveLettie: You probably passed. They told me they would call me only if I failed but that I could call and find out, so I just went ahead and called. Lol

@MrsKoala: Yay!! But I ate all the cookies last night after I got home. Lol. I was like, I may not get to eat these again for a while!

@SweetMamaM: Uggh I know, especially 3rd trimester. Miss my 2nd trimester energy--I feel like it takes me three times as long to write a paper now and I always want to take a nap 5 minutes in.

Meant to update this: Asked about my iron levels at my appointment today and apparently they are on the low end of normal, which is to be expected for someone who is pregnant. The MW told me to just keep taking my prenatals, which have a little iron in them. I guess my exhaustion is just exhaustion!

Just had my gestational diabetes test this morning. First half of the bottle... not too bad. Second half, the chemical aftertaste started to kick in - ewwww. Funny thing I found out was that DH's company actually brings them into the country for one of their major clients!

Anyone experiences any Braxton Hicks yet? I think I am right now for the first time? Not sure. It may be because I need to go to the bathroom? It feels like a period cramp. I had them (period cramps) bad before becoming pregnant. 5-10 seconds, 20 ish mins apart. 3 of them so far. Waiting to see if I have another....

For those of you who passed your 1 hour GD test, did you eat beforehand? If so is there any food I should avoid eating prior to it?

  33. Honeygold89

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@citymouse: yes I felt them for the first time yesterday and they hurted but only lasted for a few and then stopped once I got up and peed so I think it had to do with holding my pee I knew it was a Braxton hicks cause my stomach got hard like a rock but it didn't happen anymore after that. I have a doc appt in the morning so I'll tell her about it then.

@Honeygold89: Yeah, I haven't had another one yet, so I am thinking that is what that was!

    nectarine / 2527 posts

@citymouse: if it wasn't for DH coming home and talking to Noah and getting him all worked up I kind of would have been worried but he is still the same in the movement department he's kicking and moving up a storm right now lol

  36. Ree723

    grapefruit / 4819 posts

@Danizaur: @MrsKoala: Congrats on passing your glucose tests! Go enjoy those cookies without worry now Still waiting on my results, but if I haven't received a call by mid- next week, I'm going to assume I passed as well!

@citymouse: I get BH from time to time - never had them with my LO so I didn't recognise them at first, but yes, they are uncomfortable albeit not painful. I tend to get them if I'm doing too much strenuous activity and/or haven't been drinking enough water. They usually go away once I sit down and rehydrate, but I'm not looking forward to them increasing in frequency as we get further along in pregnancy!

@citymouse: yep- my stomach gets hard as a rock with each one, and although they say they are "painless," I've found them uncomfortable with both pregnancies.

RE postpartum weight loss brought up a page or two back: just a bummer bit of info, not everyone loses weight while breast feeding. In fact, it's quite common for some women to gain (I am one of those "lucky" ones). It took me about a year (of not trying to lose) to comfortably fit back into my old clothes. Then I got pregnant again and couldn't wear them anyway! My hips and rib cage stayed permanently wider, and boobs stayed bigger even after weaning, so some things, like some of my dresses, will just never fit again. I also will be in a wedding about 6 months pp, and I plan on doing Zumba!

Took the 1 hr GD test a couple of days ago, and it sent me into a tailspin of bad nausea again, and even worse heartburn. I'm so mad! Also, haven't done a thing in the nursery except test paint on the wall. Now that I'm in the 3rd trimester, I guess it's time to get cracking! Anyone else just feel too tired to be motivated to do much? I can barely wear real pants anymore, instead opting for leggings because they're just so much more comfortable.

Also, how is Thanksgiving next week already!?

@erinpye: I was right with you on the fatigue thing. I am so glad I took the day off work for the gestational diabetes test because I totally crashed afterwards...like two hours slept like a log on the couch in the middle of the day crashed. I really think I have been overdoing it at work and my body just physically can't handle it anymore. This is literally the first night I haven't gone straight to bed after antenatal classes.

@erinpye: I'm too tired to do anything. I had big plans for my nursery design but I'm almost ready to just tell DH to so whatever he wants as long as it gets done. Lol

I'll be over here taking a nap!

Ugggh, lower back pain is my worst enemy right now. It was so bad last night that I couldn't do anything despite trying stretches, various pillow positioning, etc, and I just gave up and went to bed at 7:30 (and woke up every hour because I hurt so much!). It's also sending pain to my front, which is worrisome, but it seems too constant and not irregular enough to be contractions? It does come and go, but I'm thinking it's just baby on a nerve again. Uggh, so awful though! I'm going to try to get something accomplished today final-papers-wise but I hurt so much!!

@erinpye: I can't believe it either! November has flown by freakishly fast...I'm excited for good food though! Especially green bean casserole and pumpkin pie!
