@Lately: @wahine08: Thanks. The Dr. Didnt seem to concerned. Told me to call him back if it got worse & they would send me in for a U/S. Waiting on labs from today for more information. I just wish I could go home & chill. I'm going to have to be on my feet more today & am not thrilled about it.

@Emsmems: no blame at all! I needed to be prompted all the time on one of the POAS boards.

My midwife appointment was postponed until tomorrow morning, but my anatomy scan went very well. We saw our very healthy-looking 10 oz. baby girl!
I was thoroughly surprised because I was convinced it would be a boy, but DH claims that he knew all along.

@Lately: Yay a girl! Congrats!
DH has no idea either way. I feel like it's a girl but everyone else and all the old wives tales tell me boy! We'll see haha

I forgot to update before! We had a check up on Wednesday and it went great! DH came along and we met the other OB at our practice. He was great and basically told me that we should try for a VBAC. I am feeling better about the decision and really encouraged about how we got along with him.
Also, counting the days until our anatomy scan next Wednesday! (8/14) So excited and hoping we can tell right away!

@Sugar.Biscuit: @wahine08: @Vegmama: Thanks!
@abbydabbydoodlebug: The anatomy scan would have been our last ultrasound, too, but we're getting one extra one at 32 weeks because there's a small unidentified object near the placenta that's been showing up on our ultrasounds since the beginning. But it seems the anatomy scan is normally the last one.

I'm so sorry for not posting in a while... I'm officially a high risk pregnancy now and I'm still struggling.... tomorrow is my AFT and I have to see my ob/gyn the day after to see everything went well and the babys ok...
so today I found out (no one told me!) that my ob/gyn retired and that there will be a new male ob/gyn who has problems with the language because he is from the middle east. (I have no problem with him being from the middle east) But I do have a problem with them a) not telling me b) not asking me if I'd like to see him, but kind of ordering me to do so. It's a private practice, its really expensive and they never thought it could be relevant to tell me this? Now of course, I cannot find another ob/gyn who will see a new patient that soon. And everyone keeps telling me I'm putting the baby in danger if I won't see an ob/gyn the next day.
I don't know what to do.... maybe I'm childish and naive, but this all feels so wrong....
(I'd appreciate any advice)

@lil owl: take the time to interview the new obgyn like you did your first & give him a chance. Second I'd write a letter to the office manager explaining how you feel about how the situation was handled.
In my experience like this with other dr s usually there is more of a reason then them just retiring. I later found out one of mine had to go on chemo & didn't want his patients knowing or have a dragged out goodbye.
Good luck hon & I know saying this is easier said than done, try not to stress. If this is a good private practice then they would have hired a good doctor...right? Try to have faith that all will be well. If after you give him a chance & you still dont like him start searching for a new obgyn. Hope all goes well! Let us know what thry say at your appointment.

@lil owl: I'm sorry! That is so frustrating.
I second what @Sugar.Biscuit recommended and giving this OB a chance. Interview him and see if his communication level is really as bad as they are making it seem. If he isn't what you'd prefer, continue searching on your own while seeing him (since he seems to be the only option)
I hope everything works out for you!!

@lil owl: Sorry you're dealing with the OB situation. I think it's unusual that the office would tell you he has problems with the language. No matter what, I think that would freak a patient out. I agree with the other ladies that you should meet with him (before really forming an opinion). If it turns out that you're not comfortable with him, I would talk with the office administrator, and ask for a referral. Is this the ONLY high risk office in your area? I only ask because it's never really too late to switch practices ... Your comfort is the number one element to you having a positive birth experience!!
honeydew / 7667 posts
@lil owl: if you aren't happy with the office I'd try and find a new one after having whatever appointments you need.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@lil owl I stayed with two OBGYNs that I disliked, and I really wish I had switched. I say give the new guy a chance, but if he isn't good then leave. Can't you stay on with him while you are shopping for a new doctor, so you are still getting the care and have the emergency contact, but ultimately won't be with him.

Thank you all so much!! I was really freaking out... I blame it on the hormones...
My AFT yesterday went better than I thought. They did an ultrasound first, looking for all organs and everything, then they took the amniotic fluid. DH was with me the whole time. I had to close my eyes when I saw the needle... but it didn't really hurt. I was shocked though about how much they took.
Today I met the “new” ob. I didn't understand him at all. (we even tried 3 languages...) He did an ultrasound to check the baby but I didn't want to get undressed or anything because he was alone with me the whole time. I didn't feel safe, if that makes sense.
So I talked to my midwife (and I'm really happy I was looking for one so early) and she told me that she would ask her ob/gyn if I could come and see her. So I'll be going there tomorrow.
And there's another thing that nobody but DH knows and nobody will know for about 23 weeks but I wanted to share with you: the doc doing the AFT told us that 95% we're having a boy
pomegranate / 3275 posts
@Lil Owl that's fantastic! Congrats on a little boy I hope your midwife can get you into her doctor, it can't be good to have a language barrier between your OB and yourself, I can't even imagine... ugh

@lil owl: How exciting! A Boy! Congrats I'm glad you appointment went better than you thought.

@lil owl: Glad to hear it went well, and that you have another OB (or so it sounds). Thinking of you and that little boy!!

We had our anatomy scan yesterday. It was amazing to see the differences between the first trimester screen (6 weeks ago).
Most importantly, everything with baby seems to be perfect. We are team green, so we just closed our eyes for that part (it's so funny to me that someone knows whether baby is a boy/girl, and we don't).
Overall, I was a little disappointed with the scan. It was long, which was great ... however, we didn't get the tech we requested (the one who did our 1st trimester scan), and the one we did get was very quiet. She spend A LOT of time looking at the heart, and not saying a word. After she was done, she told me to sit up to get the baby to move (it was head-down), and the doctor was going to come in and look. Of course, I immediately thought something was wrong!!
It turned out, the doc just needed to review her scan/notes ... He came in for 3 seconds to say everything looked great.
Then, she came back in, the baby had moved, and she was able to take more profile photos.
I just had no idea what to expect. Our last tech was amazing, and communicated the entire time. This lady was knowledgable, but not very fun, which scared me. Once again, I am so thankful to be in the caring hands of our midwives for the remainder of this pregnancy. I forget how cold some members of the medical community can be (or are required to be).
This was a long post!! Baby is healthy ... things are looking really good, which makes me so happy.

It's a girl! We had our anatomy scan this morning and everything looked great! We are excited, (but really would have been excited with a boy too!) It's so funny now to think of girl names and girl rooms and such!
The ultrasound went well and we ended up connecting well with the technician. She explained a lot and we got to see some 3d images. It as funny because little girl was doing some of the same things that DS did during his 20 week ultrasound, like covering her face with her hands whenever we tried to get a good profile shot. I can't believe we know now!

@Vegmama: sorry you didn't have a fun experience! I know what you mean about waiting for the doctor, we had to sit and wait for 10 minutes after we were done to wait for the radiologist to review everything...all was well, but it makes you worry!
clementine / 957 posts
@Vegmama: What a great pic!! I'm sorry the scan didn't go as well as you hoped but I'm happy to hear everything is good!
@creativemomma15: Congrats!! A girl! How exciting!
I'm getting sooo anxious for my scan on the 27th!! I can't believe I still have to wait 1 and a half weeks haha. I'm so impatient!

We have our 20 week appointment with the midwife today ... It's just a regular appointment, but it feels extra special because we've reached the halfway point!! Thinking of you mamas during these few weeks when we'll all be halfway there. Next big step: viability week!!

Had my anatomy scan yesterday, everything looked good and baby girl is weighing 13 ounces. I get the results of the rest of the genetic testing and the ultrasound next Tuesday.

Our anatomy scan it's September 3...but we already know we're having another boy.
pomegranate / 3275 posts
We had our anatomy scan on Monday, shocked to find out it was a boy. Now we are left trying to find a name (boy names are so HARD!). I have my 20 week appointment tomorrow (after DS's 18 month appointment, ugh), but I have a feeling it will be uneventful hahaha.
PS anyone have any suggestions for boy names? We like things a little off the beaten path...
pear / 1799 posts
@MamaBehr: So exciting!!! We've known our boy name since before getting pregnant, but I've still been browsing others. Some of my favorites: August (Augie), Simon, Jack, River, Cash, West, and Ira. We like 'weird' names!!

Had another check up today. Everything went well & we got to hear both heartbeats today! One was 148 & the other was 152. We had to reschedule our U/S for September 4th. This is becoming more real the further along we get. There really are two babies growing in me *tears of joy*.

@Mamabehr - Congrats on having a boy! My DH and I came up with our list of boys names really quick. The girl's list for us was much more tough to come up with. Here's our list: Graeme, Jaxson, Duke, Harrison, Hudson. Graeme is our top pick.
