Man, I haven't updated in awhile... It's a busy time of year for us and our DS is keeping us quite busy as well! Our last appointment went well with no worries. Wednesday I went for labwork and my 1 hour glucose test. I haven't heard about the results, but with my 1st pregnancy they called the next day to tell me I failed so I am assuming all is good. Our next appointment is 10/4 and I am excited to finally see the midwife that we saw most through DS's pregnancy. She was a ton of fun and always made appointments enjoyable.

Also this little one is seeming much more active than DS was, but it may just be my weak muscles this time. I am currently loving the big movements, but am also nervous as time goes on!

Glad to hear all of your reports and praying for healthy babies and mommies for us all!

@Navy_Mommy: that blows! I have two herniated disks in my lower back so I can sympathize a little. Hope you can find something to help. I've heard good things about the gravity tables.

@wahine08: I've been having these kicks for a while now & it keeps getting worse. I really need to snag some panty liners. I'm afraid when it happens it the liner won't be good enough.

Any ladies preparing for Maternity leave yet?? Things are already getting crazy at work trying to prepare... My leave starts Dec 13th!

@wahine08: That's an awesome leave!! I work from home (I'm a designer), so I'll be taking my last clients in October. It feels like I'm starting to prep!

@wahine08: @Vegmama: I envy both of you! I plan to work all the way till I'm told not to. Who knows when that will be.

Update: I went to the Dr. again today. I've been feeling light headed, having a pounding heart beat, & it's felt like I'm having a gallbladder attack (I have no gallbladder). He is concerned that it maybe my liver or pancreas. He drew labs & said if it gets worse just to go to the ER. He is hoping that it is just my uterus pressing on scar tissue which is causing my symptoms. Waiting sucks.

@Sugar.Biscuit: I hope you're feeling better today! When will you find out the results of the lab?

    nectarine / 2063 posts

@wahine08: today. They just called & said I have to see my other OB, the specialist, today because my labs indicates that I have extra fluid on my kindeys....idk what the heck that means! Hopefully I can get the time off...

@Sugar.Biscuit: Oh man I'm so sorry! I hope you can too! Could that mean a kidney infection..?

@wahine08: no the labs they did would have shown that.

@sugar.biscuit I hope everything is ok.... that doesn't sound like much fun on top of being pregnant with twins!!

@wahine08 I have talked to my boss about maternity leave, and she promises that I will get it, but we will see. She is 3.5 years old, so I don't take everything she says to heart (I'm a SAHM hahaha) Luckily my Mom is coming for the first few weeks and so even if my "boss" is demanding I'll have help

@navy_mommy how are you feeling? Is your back better yet?

Has anyone else done the glucose test yet? I have an appointment today, and I think it is too early, but they are coming soon....

  12. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@MamaBehr: I got my glucose test given to me to take in a couple of weeks (I'm 24 weeks today, I was told to do it at 26 weeks) They told me to stick it in the fridge and keep it chilled until I'm ready to do the lab.

I've never done one so I'm nervous! Most people say it's not TOO terrible but my sister says it ruined orange soda for her for life haha. She might be a big dramatic though. Drinking the whole thing in 5 minutes seems daunting!

@MamaBehr: did they tell you to fast beforehand? My dr made some off handed comment about not eating after midnight but I'm guessing that's only if you schedule it in the morning??

  14. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@MrsH @mamabehr: I was told I could eat before drinking the glucose test, just not after I drank it for that hour.

  15. Sugar.Biscuit

    nectarine / 2063 posts

@MamaBehr: they did another u/s yesterday and found I have a small amount of extra fluid on my kidneys & Izzy is folded in half which is putting more pressure on those organs. Her hands and feet are by her ears.

There is nothing they can do about it right now. If it gets worse I can take ibuprofen & if it gets real bad they can put in a catheter to drain the fluid. I'd rather not do either.

As far as the glucose test goes I had my first test 2 weeks ago one Dr told me to fast the other told me I didn't have to. I fasted just to be safe. My next test is mid October & I get to eat 4 large Reese peanut butter cups instead of the nasty orange juice I had to drink the first time. I felt so sick after. Yuck! My results were good.

ETA: here is our latest shots of our little ones! Baby boy is on the left & baby girl is on the right. Baby boy looks like his daddy!

@MamaBehr: @MrsH: @wahine08: I did my glucose test last Wednesday and was told to do it anytime after 24 weeks. She encouraged fasting at least 2 hours prior to the test if not overnight and said if I need to eat something to eat protein, no carbs or sugars. I think she gave extra tips because I failed my 1 hr with my first pregnancy but passed the 3 hr with flying colors. She was giving me tips, and I passed so I am happy. My drink was lemon lime and I chugged it just because I wanted it to be I've with! Good luck to all of you!

Ugh my glucose test is Friday! Not looking forward to it. But on a positive note - I can finally feel LO kick (I hadn't yet because of an anterior placenta)

I see lots of talk about the glucose test. We chose to do the two-week test ... Lots of finger pricks, but it'll give us a better idea of how my body is processing everything. Anyone else opt for this one?

  19. MrsH

    honeydew / 7667 posts

@Vegmama: I didn't even know it was an option.

  20. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@Vegmama: I wasn't offered this! I would totally do this. I live very close to the hospital so it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience!

@wahine08 I chug the orange drink. It sucks but it isn't THAT bad. This is my third OB/GYN and third baby and the first time that there was a choice, but the nurse told me the orange is better.

@MrsH they told me to fast the two hours before hand. I will not only fast for at least three hours before but eat super low carb and low sugar for at least 24 hours in advance (I have had to take the 3 hour glucose test with both of my other pregnancies)

@vegmama I didn't know that was an option either! With my second pregnancy I was never technically diagnosed with gestational diabetes, but they wanted me to do the 3 hour glucose test TWICE in one week, and I said I wouldn't do it and just proceed as if I had gestational diabetes. The finger pricks aren't bad at all.

Well, I officially have a big baby already. I'm 25 weeks 3 days and measured between 27 and 28 weeks. I find it hilarious (and not unexpected). So I have been singing "I make big babies and I cannot lie" (just like "I like big butts") ever since I walked out of my appointment.

Oct 16th is my next appt and it will be "G" day (aka glucose test).

My glucose test is tomorrow morning. I was told that I was allowed to eat in the morning. They suggested a protein packed breakfast.

  23. Vegmama

    pear / 1799 posts

@wahine08: They give you a glucose monitor to do at home ... You check 2-3 times per day & record the glucose levels. So, no hospital!!

My hubby is going to do it along with me!

I did my glucose test today. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The flavor I got was fruit punch and it was a way sweeter version of Hawaiian Punch.

I ate an egg before getting there. While waiting an hour, I felt as if I was getting dizzy from the solution. Anyone else experience this?

  25. MamaBehr

    pomegranate / 3275 posts

@Honeydew: I have never felt dizzy due to the glucose test (I have done two 1 hour tests and two 3 hour tests with previous pregnancies), but I know plenty of women who have felt this way and almost passed out. I also have one friend who threw up when she was almost done and had to go back and DO IT AGAIN!!!!

  26. AmandaB8

    clementine / 849 posts

I nearly threw up my glucola drink - I'm not used to having that much sugar at once!! But I kept it down!

The taste wasn't too bad - it was like two day old orange soda - ya know, nearly flat but not quite?

I had my appointment with the OB yesterday. She seems very nice and knows her stuff although I'm a little concerned that she has a very high C-section rate for her patients. She said that it is because many of her clients are recommended from an IVF clinic and many of them have elective c-sections. I will travel back to Bangkok to see her again in November.

I have not heard any mention from my local clinic here about the glucose test. I will ask next time I am in there. My OB pointed out that they have failed to do a blood typing for thalassemia which apparently should have been done so I have to chase them about that too! My next appointment with the local clinic will be 18th October.

Had my ultrasound appointment today. They couldn't get the heart flow last time and they were able to see it this time and everything is good. She is measuring right on track and it was awesome being able to see her again! The tech was able to get me some profile pictures too which I was really excited about. I only had a blob, foot and girl parts before. So having a picture of her face is nice.

I go back October 29th for my 1 hour glucose screening! Eep. Hoping that goes well!

Had my glucose test yesterday and passed, yay! I did one at 10 weeks also and had orange flavor, this time I had fruit punch, still gross but I thought it was better, tasted less sugary or something. As for the rest of my appointment, I'm not anemic, baby is measuring a little big, her heartbeat was good, and the past few days I've been having Braxton Hicks but my doctor said everything looks right on track.

I have my glucose test tomorrow. I'm kind of nervous! I've never had gestational diabetes, but I have had to do the three hour one with EVERY pregnancy. I'm mentally prepared to do the three hour test on Friday hahaha. After this appointment I start going in every two weeks (I can't BELIEVE we are at this point already!!), anyone else?

@Punky: I've never had the fruit punch and the nurse told me the orange is better. Now I kind of wish I hadn't listened to her and tried the fruit punch!

@MamaBehr: I've been going to the Dr. Every two weeks since the beginning for labs. And once a month for check ups. My next appointment is in 3 weeks. Sooo...I guess its about that time for me too lol.

I just came back from my 24 week u/s (Ill be 25 weeks tomorrow) everything is looking good. Babies weigh just under 2 pounds each, breach & are measuring on time. They were ahead of time for the longest time. So I'm not sure what that means but the dr. wasn't concerned. Baby boy has some BIG feet though lol. I see my other OB tomorrow for a regular exam/appointment.

I'm doing my glucose test this Saturday. I'm planning to do it in the morning about an hour or so after I have had breakfast. I'm planning on eating just an egg and a piece of toast for a light breakfast.

They just gave me the bottle and told me to do it by 28 weeks!

After Nov 22nd, I'll start my 2 week appts. I'm 27 weeks this week

I find out tomorrow if I passed my glucose test (sure hope I did!). I should also know by Oct 30th what day my c-section will be scheduled. It will be December 27th or December 30th, which do you think is better? I could probably talk her into either.

I also have my appointments up until DECEMBER!! Crazy town!

@Sugar.Biscuit: I can't believe you have been going that frequently since the beginning!!! Will they induce you by a certain point? What is your doctor's goal for keeping the baby's baking, but not baking too long?

@wahine08: That's the breakfast I had today! Hopefully it results in not having to do the three hour glucose test Good luck on Saturday!

  34. Sugar.Biscuit

    nectarine / 2063 posts

@MamaBehr: babies will bake as long as they can. We have no plans of inducing or of a c-section at this point. I've been seen every 2 weeks to help maintain progesterone levels.

Wish me luck ladies! I have my second 1 hr glucose test tomorrow but I get to have 4 peanut butter cups before my test

I failed. I failed the 1 hour glucose test I'm so upset. The three hour one sucks (I've done it twice before) and it always just makes me feel disgusting and fat, like it is my fault that I failed. Sure hope I pass this one, otherwise I don't get the following:
    Halloween candy
    Thanksgiving pies
    Christmas cookies

This is a horrible time to be diagnosed with GD. ::pity party over::

  37. abbydabbydoodlebug

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@MamaBehr: aww, I hope you pass the 3 hour! I do my 1 hour on the 29th and I'm so scared I'll be diagnosed with GD! It's really been my only worry since the beginning. I don't want to have to skip the pies and treats at all the holidays this year. Hopefully you won't have to either!! When do you have to do the 3 hour?

  38. MamaBehr

    pomegranate / 3275 posts

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I'm just getting it done with tomorrow. I figured the sooner it is done the better. I have read that the later in pregnancy you are the higher the false negatives, and I'm 28 weeks 4 days, so totally on the later end of the window to test for it. You would think after failing the one hour glucose before it wouldn't upset me this much, but it still sucks. I'm trying to get it in perspective..... still have a healthy pregnancy.

  39. Sugar.Biscuit

    nectarine / 2063 posts

@MamaBehr: boo! Sorry you didn't have any luck on your 1 hr test. I was lucky & passed my test again. I was almost certain I was going to get GD considering that 6 years ago I was diabetic! Keep your chin up.

I'm now seeing a doctor every two weeks & not just going in for labs every two weeks. this shit just got real lol.

@MamaBehr: Aww man! I'm sorry!! Hoping you pass the 3 hour!!

What does a 3 hour entail..? Is it like a drink as well?
