@wahine08: The three hour is pregnant torture! Just kidding It is fasting for 12 hours, then you get your blood drawn, drink the drink, and then blood draws every hour for three hours after that.

I didn't feel sick during the one hour one, but this time around it was rough.

I also found out I failed the 1 hour with a 145, normal range is up to 139, so I'm hopefully that I get good news on Monday....

It's so interesting to hear about all your glucose tests although I commiserate with your not so great results.

I went for my local appointment and they said they don't do glucose tests only routine urine analysis to look for the presence of glucose. I'm not sure if I should be worried about this or not.

The doctor said both I and the bub are pefectly healthy and not to worry about all the extra tests.

Would you seek out the glucose test from another clinic?

  3. wahine08

@Mrs Rivera: I personally wouldn't if my doctor didn't necessarily recommend it.

I took my glucose test on Saturday morning and it wasn't bad at all!! I had a hard time drinking it so fast, but mine tasted like a very sweet gatorade. The aftertaste left a film in my mouth for a few hours (maybe all the sugar) but all in all, not too bad!!

I got my results (Kaiser emails them to you pretty fast) and it looks like I'm good! It said I need to be under 130mg and I was at 117mg.

BUT looking at the CBC blood test (which they did at the same time) it looks like I might be hearing from my OB about maybe an iron deficiency. Of course, this is after Dr. Google told me what the heck each thing mean (HGB, HGT, RBC, etc.)

I'm not EXTREMELY low in those categories, but below the "Low normal" range. I've still been eating gummy vitamins since the first tri (my rainbow lights made me sick!) but I'll switch back today and hope it helps! Hopefully it doesn't bring back the nausea =(

@Mrs Rivera: I wouldn't worry about the glucose test then. Enjoy the fact you don't have to!

@wahine08: Hurray for passing the one hour! The three hour is a beast I keep thinking I'm low on iron (I was for both of my other pregnancies) and my doctor hasn't said anything from my blood draw on Wednesday....

I think I officially passed my three hour!!! The doctor's office closes in a few hours and I haven't gotten a phone call yet Of course now I feel gross for the insane sugar binge I went on all weekend, hahaha. Especially since I have to hop on the scale again next Wednesday (starting every two week visits!)

I scheduled my gestational diabetes test for next week. As I had mentioned, we were planning on doing to 2-week long finger prick test, BUT my midwife said to just do the 2 hour test. We're planning a home birth, but if we were to transfer, the hospital likes having the results of the 2 hour test on-hand. Ughh. Not looking forward to that drink.

@Vegmama: The drink really wasn't too bad for me but I hope it's the same for you! GL!

I'm officially in my third trimester! Just went in for the 28 week checkup and all looks good. I'll be checking in with the doc now every two weeks. Time is flying!

@Honeydew: so excited for you & the other mommas who are already in the third trimester! It seems so far away in the beginning & now that its almost here...eeek!

I REGISTERED AT THE HOSPITAL TODAY!!! Yup, that's right. I filled in the paper work for the birth certificate, and gave the insurance cards..... I would imagine the next time I walk into the hospital it will be to give birth! I'm hoping that next week I find out my actual c-section date and time

@Vegmama: The drink isn't too bad. It is much better if it is cold though, so if you can do that, it helps

@MamaBehr: wow! Can't believe you are registered! Crazy how time flies.

We made our hospital tour appointment for next month.

Are you all taking classes (childbirth or otherwise)? How do you like them? Learned anything interesting! We go for CPR and first aid next month.

@MrsH: We started our birth class last night. It's called "The Yoga Way to Birth" ... It's about connecting mind & body to find your own way to get through vaginal birth naturally. It was totally hippie-fied, but we liked it. It was movie worthy ... like, these are the people that movies make fun of: we were moaning, candles lit, an altar, scarves over lights, yoga ...

@Vegmama: I can picture it now. We are skipping childbirth classes that's why I'm wondering what everyone else is experiencing

  17. MamaBehr

    pomegranate / 3275 posts

@MrsH: I did a prepared childbirth class and a breastfeeding class with my first pregnancy. I found it to be helpful, just knowing the various stages of labor and the various things that they can use during labor (ie internal heart rate monitor, the thing they use to break your water etc). With the second pregnancy I did a c-section class, because I didn't pay attention to what happens during the first class and freaked out during the c-section. This time, I am not taking any classes. I did sign DD up for a sibling class at the hospital though. I think that'll be fun

Signed up for a breastfeeding class today! Also, my 27 week and my 1 hr glucose screening is tomorrow! Eep. I really hope I pass.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: How did the glucose test go?! When is your breastfeeding class (I found mine super helpful with my first pregnancy).

  20. abbydabbydoodlebug

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@MamaBehr: As well as it could go I think! Haven't gotten the results back though. I'll find out in the next day or two. The tech who drew my blood did a lot better job then the last one though! Lol.

The breastfeeding class is in the beginning of December. We are doing it through our hospital. I hope it'll help! I've read and watched videos on breastfeeding, but seeing/hearing it in person will probably help. And having DH there to learn will actually be really good because he doesn't really have a clue, so having his support will be really good.

Wah! I failed the 1 hour. I was 144 and the cut off is 130. I go in on Monday morning for the 3 hour. Is there any way I can "prep" for the test so I have a better chance of passing?

  22. Vegmama

    pear / 1799 posts

Just started my 2 hour test ... Drink didn't taste terrible, but there was so much of it! Also, as I was scarfing down Halloween candy last night, I remembered I had this test today. Ooops. My starting level was 78, so we shall see in an hour.

  23. Honeydew

    kiwi / 568 posts

@abbydabbydoodlebug - I was advised before my glucose test not to eat anything "carb heavy"/ sugar heavy (no juice) a full day or two before the test. I stopped eating sweets for the week and on the morning of the exam I ate a scrambled egg and that was it.

I passed. I hope that helps!

  24. abbydabbydoodlebug

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@Honeydew: I'm not allowed to eat anything the morning of the test, but I think I am planning on not eating anything too carb/sugar heavy this weekend. Which means I need to eat my halloween candy today! haha.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I'm sorry you failed I bet you will pass the 3 hour with flying colors though!!

@Vegmama: good luck! The drink wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either! I'm sure you'll be fine and pass!

How long is the 'normal' wait time for results?

  28. MamaBehr

    pomegranate / 3275 posts

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I failed the 1 hour at 145 but passed the 3 hour! All I did was fast 12 hours before hand, that's it. I even ate lots of sugar the night before, in case it would be my last bit of sugar until January ha! In fact, I have failed the 1 hour with every pregnancy and have ended up taking the 3 hour and always passing. So I wouldn't be too worried. How far along are you? They say the closer to 28 weeks the higher the chances of a false positive.

@Vegmama: I took my one hour test in the afternoon and had a phone call by 10:30 the next morning telling me I had failed. So it's pretty fast.

  29. abbydabbydoodlebug

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@MamaBehr: thanks for the encouragement! I'll be 28 wks on Sunday. I sure hope I pass. I didn't feel sick at all during the 1 hour but I don't know if that really has anything to do with how well you process sugar. What should I bring to eat after the test? Pb sandwich?

  30. Sugar.Biscuit

    nectarine / 2063 posts

@abbydabbydoodlebug: thumbs down to failing your first glucose test. Eat healthy with lower carbs and higher proteins for the next couple days & it should help. FX for you!

Update from my appointment yesterday. I have officially gained 43 pounds and about 18 of those pounds came on in just the last month! I'm averaging 6 pounds a week... yup I'm probably going to reach 300 pounds by the time this is all over. *tear* Pretty sure DH is no longer attracted to me. Seems like there is always something else going on or he hurts to bad when ever I want to get frisky.

Sorry I got side tracked. I saw my regular OB this week & he says all is going well & to plan on being huge by the time this is over He also said that we should shoot for a singleton next time, its far less complicated (yeah he went there). He also said to plan on being very sore & hurting a lot now that I'm in my third trimester (again, thanks doc!) OTHERWISE babies seem healthy & are moving like crazy which is causing me to be very sore! I see the specialist again on the 13th for another U/S.

@Sugar.Biscuit: I'm sorry you've been having so much round ligament pain! Hopefully it's temporary and you'll feel better soon. Glad your babies are healthy though! And that's all that matters, really.

Did my 3 hour glucose test today... I thought I'd be able to walk around the building to waste time, but they said I had to stay in this little room for the whole 3 hours. So I didn't get to walk around like I wanted, but I did end up pacing back and forth for a few minutes. There was another girl doing it with me and she was super nice and we ended up talking the entire time, so it made the time pass really quickly. I didn't even pull out my tablet! I didn't get sick or dizzy feeling from the drink either. I just started getting hungry near the end. I'll hear if I fail in a couple days, otherwise "no news is good news." *fingers crossed!*

@Sugar.Biscuit: Don't worry about the weight gain, you'll be surprised at how it comes off! I'm up 30 lbs with just ONE baby!!! So don't feel bad I am having lots of pain with this one too, and I'm hoping that it gets better..... Have you looked into a pregnancy support band? I'm soooo surprised at how much this has helped!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: I asked to walk around too, and they wouldn't let me! I tried to read but ended up playing on my phone the whole time. I hope that you DON'T hear from the doctors

  33. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@Vegmama: I get my results emailed to me, but my OB didn't email me back until a week later letting me know I was good to go. The results pretty much breakdown if you've passed or not, though.

She did mentioned I am slightly anemic so I'll have to add a iron supplement to my prenatal. Blech.. I was just starting to feel regular, too! I hear the iron can cause constipation.

Ladies, I am a mixed bag of emotions today. I passed the gestational diabetes test with flying colors. Good news there.

On the Vitamin D test, I was 28. They want to see a number of at least 50. Whoops. Supplement!

On the circulating Iron, I was an 11.1. They want to see 11.5-12. When I was tested in January, I was a 12.6, and in May, I was 11.6. So, I need to get that back up. If it goes below 9, I will not be able to have a home birth. Sad.

On the Iron stores, I was a 7. The healthy range is 25-50. WHOA! Super freaking low. They said I need to get an iron supplement today. And, eat iron rich foods. If it goes any lower, I will not be able to have a home birth, because in case of any hemorrhage, my body would be pretty wrecked.

Suddenly, I feel overwhelmed with the thought of my birth plan changing. I'm just hoping that with 8 weeks left, it's enough to get my numbers back up. Ughhhh.

    Thanks for letting me vent!

@wahine08: One note with the iron ... Calcium & Iron cancel each other out when taken with each other (most prenatals have iron & calcium, which is dumb). I JUST talked to my midwife about this 5 minutes ago, and she said to be sure to take my iron supplement away from my prenatal, and any other calcium rich foods. This will ensure the best absorption.

  36. MamaBehr

    pomegranate / 3275 posts

@Vegmama: I have no ideas what my numbers were with my other pregnancies, but I have been anemic with all my pregnancies (except this one, so weird). I hope that an iron supplement will fix it!

  37. abbydabbydoodlebug

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@Vegmama: I hope you can get all your numbers back up so you can have the birth you want!

Ladies, I just got a call and I passed my GD test with amazing numbers! I was way below all of the maximum numbers for all 3 hours. Hallelujah! I totally thought I was going to fail, so this is great news!

  38. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@Vegmama: I hope you get your numbers back up too!

Thanks for the info! I did read about that too and I do plan on taking them seperate... which I hate because taking the prenatal is enough for me!

I also heard that you should take Feosol on an empty stomach which I don't know if I can do.. but I guess iron absorbs better with stomach acid or some kind of acid (like with OJ)

    @abbydabbydoodlebug: Congrats!!! Great news!

    @abbydabbydoodlebug: Yippy Skippy for passing!!!!

We found out today that we will be meeting this sweet little boy on December 27th at noon. Kind of conflicted about the date, but this is the stuff I can't really change. Still kind of hoping he comes early (DS#1 came at 37 weeks 1 day...)
