my next appt is a general MW check up, on the 3rd. Less excited for that O_o

@penny lane- yay! That's cool that you got a chance to see your baby be so active.

My NT scan is on Wednesday, and I'm looking forward to see my baby again.

Have any of you ladies had only doppler done yet? My appt this friday is supposed to be doppler only, but I'll just be 12w3d and I wasn't sure if this was too early? I don't want to freak out if we don't hear anything since all my appts have been with t/v ultrasounds!

    nectarine / 2636 posts

@wahine08: I haven't had it done yet but my next appointment is supposed to be Doppler only too. I'll only be 11w4d then. I'm also overweight which might make it harder to find the heartbeat. No help, just wanted to commiserate!

    pear / 1610 posts

@wahine08: I had a Doppler at 10w 4d... The midwife had a harder time finding it but we could also hear baby moving around a lot and it was hard to catch. She said that 10 weeks is the earliest they could hear the heartbeat with the doppler they have in their office. I was nervous too! Good luck!

@creativemomma15: Thanks! This makes me feel better. Hopefully I'll be able to hear something at least. They did say if they couldn't catch a H/B we'd do another U/S.. their pretty good at trying to settle new mama's down haha.

@wahine08: We heard baby's hb at 10w, 6d with the doppler! Then again on 11w, 3 d ... Fingers crossed you'll get to hear it. Only a few more days, right?

  14. wahine08

    clementine / 957 posts

@VEGMAMA: Yep! We heard baby's HB during the U/S but I just wanted a little more reassurance before we announce at the 2nd tri

@wahine08: we got to see the heart beat last week @ 8+6 but couldn't hear it. Ill have a doppler next week @ 10+6 during my first OB appointment. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

@wahine08 I had a doppler only appointment last week. I was 12 weeks and 4 days. The doc had to look a little bit, but it was SUPER loud when she found it

@wahine08. I was at the doctor last week at 11w and 1day and we did the Doppler. My doc had warned us that we may not be able to catch the hb. But we did with a few minute search.

Had our NT scan yesterday. I was so surprised that we could see baby moving around like a little acrobat. I was really impressed with how long the tech spent during the scan, and how much he explained everything. We are team green, but her offered to share the news with us. I THINK I might have caught a glimpse, but it was so fast, I'm convincing myself I'm wrong!

We start the 2nd trimester today (my midwife counts from the beginning of week 14)!!! <- People have been arguing this with me??

Best of luck to you ladies with your upcoming NT scans & other appointments. Hoping for lots of good heartbeats and great news for you all.

@VEGMAMA: Aw so fun! I want to find out but not tell anyone till our shower & do a gender reveal then. DH wants to tell the world!
So excited to see what you end up having!

@VEGMAMA: I'm glad your scan went well!! I get so confused about the whole 2nd tri. I think the exact dating of the 2nd tri is 13w 3d.. which makes sense to me! Some of the Trimester Calculators are telling me I'm in my 2nd tri but I'm 12w 1d. Who knows?!

My appointment went well; everything looks good! Little bean was squirming so they were hard to measure. The official measurement put me at 10 and 1 but she said she's not changing it from our original 10and4. And we got to hear the heartbeat briefly, but they kept moving so it was only a few seconds.

We had our NT scan today. Our lil baby was moving around, it's so great to see it move and see the heartbeat again. Based on the blood screen and scan, our numbers stayed the same in the downs category. But the rest of the numbers went down for risk of trisotomy 13 and 18 . So we are doing another blood test to rule out downs. We did see a nasal bone. The results won't be for another 10 days.

  24. Navy_Mommy

@Honeydew: Did you screen positive for downs? I'm a little confused...

Oh and my next appointment is scheduled for August 9, but I'll have my NT scan before then. Just have to want for the referral to go through since I have to have that done at a specialist.

@Honeydew: So glad you got to see baby. Did you have a previous test that indicated Downs Syndrom? Or are you in the risk category? Isn't it great to see their little nasal bone? It definitely gives them the look of being a little person (as opposed to our last u/s when baby looked like a peanut).

@Navy_Mommy: So happy to hear that everything is good! I'm excited for your NT scan. They are SOOO squirmy ... it's amazing that we can't feel it, even though they are moving so much!

@vegmama I'm pretty sure we will be team green too! I think I finally convinced DH to join the green team I'm pretty convinced it is a girl, and I'm so in love with our girl name that I might be a little disappointed with another boy. (obviously I just want a healthy happy baby, but if I had to choose, it would be a girl )
@emsmems thank you so much for doing all the due date/next appointment updates! I don't think I could do that!

@navy_mommy so statistics was my risk based on age is 1 in 210. After my blood work, the number didn't change. In my doctor's eyes I tested positive. We took another test to make sure that we are ok.

    pear / 1799 posts

@MamaBehr: Hooray!!! We're the opposite (have a boy's name). I swear I saw girl parts during our NT scan. I wasn't looking (we REALLY don't want to know), but the tech was scanning all over, and the screen in front of us was like 42". I would be happy with either, but I almost HOPE it's a boy so our 'surprise' wasn't spoiled.

Does anyone else get a little nervous the day before their appointments? I was talking to DH last night and told him I hope everything is okay with the babies & that we get to hear the heart beat. His come back was, "Look at you. You're already freaking out." UM EXCUSE ME?! "It's called parenting."

Good luck to @creativemomma15: tomorrow as well!

I forgot to give an update on my 7/5 appt!

We did a nurse appt (I guess at Kaiser you have an OB nurse you see mostly as well as your OB. I've seen my OB more at this point, though.) She went through the basics (what to eat, what not to eat, calcium intake, etc.) and did a pelvic exam as well as a doppler.

The doppler took a REALLY long time! she had to basically search my whole tummy haha, DH was so nervous. I had a feeling it might take a few minutes but I forgot to warn DH so he was a nervous wreck. Once we heard the heartbeat, it was steady between 150-160! It was such a relief. Now I see why mama's get the home dopplers!

@Sugar.Biscuit: I get nervous for appts but not as much as I used to (like say, around 5weeks!) I'm so glad to finally be in the second trimester!

  35. Punky

    cherry / 168 posts

@wahine08: Yeah at my Kaiser I will almost never see the OB. I saw her for my first appt to confirm the pregnancy with an u/s. Next appt was with a nurse to go over all the paperwork, family history, do labs, and schedule a bunch of appts. My next appt was with a midwife and apparently that is who all my monthly checkups will be with unless I have some complications and become high risk, then I would start seeing the OB again.

@Sugar.Biscuit: thanks for the well wishes!

We just got back from our appointment and i feel more frustrated now. We met with one of the OBs to discuss Vbac vs csection and had to take my DS along. DS wasn't very well behaved so that was frustrating and the OB wasn't very into answering questions and I felt cut short. On the bright side, all my blood work and ultrasound came back good and I got to hear baby's heartbeat again so everything on that front is good. Now we just have to keep thinking about what we want for the delivery and consider those risks. Oh, our next appointment is 8/7. Good luck to all of you ladies And your upcoming appointments!

    @creativemomma15: glad things went well!

Didn't get to hear the heart beat. Dr. Thought he heard it for a split second. I didn't realize they looked for it right above the pubic area! Should get labs back tomorrow. I go back in two weeks to have a recheck on labs & another Doppler.

@sugar.biscuit I was so nervous for almost my appointments for my first pregnancy. I was pretty nervous for some of my appointments with my second, and with this one I'm hoping that the nervousness stops in the next few doc appointments.

@creativemomma15 Have you dealt with this OB/GYN before? I only ask because if you are having some trepidation about the doctor switch now. I didn't like my OB/GYN that took care of my during my second pregnancy and it didn't get better, not even after the baby was born. A doctor should be able to take the time to answer all your questions, especially about a VBAC. And, I'm right there with you I have to drag DS and DD to all my appointments, the first one went well so hopefully the rest go as well.
