@IRunForFun: I do find it funny that so much of the laboring process is false information haha! I def just lost a little bit anyway and no blood. It was just "exciting" b/c I didn't really have any signs of labor before my induction, so this is something "new" to experience!

    Ghost page?

@snowjewelz: Oh I'd be excited too. Well maybe for me at this point nervous since I'm only 35w even though logically I know it doesn't mean anything!

@snowjewelz: I think I lost it a week before my water broke last time. I can't remember for sure.

    @afishermanswife: he's so handsome! congratulations!!
@snowjewelz: I went into labor naturally, but never really lost one "glob" of mucus plug, so I have no input there!

I had an ultrasound this afternoon (I'm 34 weeks) to check on size (because I haven't gained a ton with her) and baby and I are both perfect! I was pretty stressed beforehand and I'm SO relieved that everything looks great, she's on track to be about the same size as my daughter at birth (7lbs). (And she's definitely still a girl, so let the name debate continue)

  6. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@madger: pretty sure once I deliver the first thing I will say "Is she still a girl?" just like I did with LO. I am so afraid the blood test and ultrasounds are going to have all been wrong!

  7. madger

    cherry / 178 posts

@Smurfette: she wasn't super cooperative during the anatomy scan, so I figured there was a chance we'd get a surprise! this time she was pretty clear about it!

  8. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@madger: I am glad all looks good!! 7 lbs is a great size - healthy but not scary big! I too haven't gained much weight and my belly is measuring about 2 weeks behind, but at my growth scan at 33+4 baby was roughly 4 lbs 6 oz. The doctor estimated it would weigh between 7 and 7.5 lbs at 40 weeks but I have a biophysical profile this Wednesday at 35+3 so I'll have more growth info then, I guess.

  9. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Smurfette: Haha! That never crossed my mind!

@madger: How many name contenders are there?

So I'm 1-2cm dilated and that makes me so happy b/c that's way more action than last time, haha! So with that I'm hoping that even if I have to get induced, things will go faster! OB is happy with all the #s from my blood test last week about the sugar levels and what not, so she said let's see again next week if I want to induce you or not. The anxiety of whether I'm having a Dec or Jan baby is killing me!!

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@snowjewelz: Good news on the progress and sugar levels! Sorry about the unknowns though, that would make me so anxious too!

  11. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@snowjewelz: the unknown is the hardest part. Especially since we have a LO now. I don't want to have to call my sister at 3am and pray she answers cause I'm in labor.

  12. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Smurfette: Agree!! I actually haven't even reminded my parents to keep their phones on at night if they don't!

@Smurfette: @snowjewelz: Oh my gosh one of the things I most nervous about is being able to reach DH if he's at work when I go into labor. He works most of his shift in a sterile environment where he absolutely isn't allowed to have his cell phone. I'll have to call a main number for the company to try to have him paged. I'm hoping I go into labor when he's home!

  14. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@IRunForFun: Oo. I hope so too! But I would think that you have at least SOME time to reach him and for him to get home!

  15. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@IRunForFun: Can he give them a heads up that you might be calling one night?
@snowjewelz: yeah I need to remind my sister this weekend when we see her. We are installing the extra seat for her so she has to drive around with it for a while I guess. Funny since she is single.

  16. madger

@snowjewelz: too many! our first didn't have a name until she was born, and I'm guessing this one will be the same!

  17. sunnyday

    kiwi / 573 posts

@madger: DD 1 was 5 hours in our arms before she had a name! DS was 3 hours and our list of potential names for this one is on a google sheet and is 48 names long, haha we are useless

For labour....my parents live 20 mins away, my Mom works two minutes away if it's a weekday. DH works over an hour away and we have had two Saturday babies so far, so haven't had to make that call to him! Two of our neighbours have given their numbers to come over any hour if we need to go asap and there's some in between time with my parents arrival, nice security to have those offers and so appreciated. Hope to not need to go that urgently haha.

@sunnyday: Haha, I'm right there with you at 2-3 cm dilated and 80% effaced! I almost wish they hadn't told me, because you're right, it means so little but it gets you wondering...

@SNOWJEWELZ: I really don't remember losing my mucus plug last time either! I mean, things were icky down there for a while, but no defining moments. I think it's definitely possible that you're experiencing it, though!

@IRUNFORFUN: It's so interesting to hear about your perspectives as a doula. I didn't know that about mucus plug + bloody show.

@MADGER: Glad your girl is doing well. We're still nameless as well!

You guys, hearing all of your updates (plus an actual baby!) is making this SO REAL. I can't believe how time has flown!

@babypugs: Seriously I swear I just took a test and found out I was pregnant. And Eck! You are due after me and already dilated. Crazy!

  20. babypugs

    persimmon / 1101 posts

@Smurfette: I know, I was reading some of our early stuff from last May this morning--it seems like yesterday! I think I was dilated and effaced pretty early last time too, but nothing happened until 38 weeks. Fingers crossed that I have a bit longer, I'm so not ready!

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@babypugs: I went back and checked my old DD thread. I wasn't dilated at 36 weeks with LO but was around 2.5 a couple days before 39 weeks. So I was happy I wasn't dilated at 35 this time. But I hope to be a little next week, 38 weeks, when I get checked again. I just want to get through Christmas with baby still inside!

    pomegranate / 3032 posts

@Smurfette: @babypugs: My Dr office doesnt do checks unless they plan on inducing you... they said its not a good indication and doesnt give them any real info and it often just stresses the mom out because sometimes it can cause cramping afterwards.... for my first I thought it was a very good indicator when they told me i was 4cm at my 38 week appt

  23. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Chillybear: A friend was at 3-4 for weeks before she went into labor, so I see how it doesn't really mean anything. But to me knowing I am dilated some makes me think at least my body is getting ready. My OB won't schedule and induction before 41 weeks unless you are already dilated.

  24. Chillybear

@Smurfette: My water broke the very next morning at 5am and I had LO in my arms by that night

  25. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Chillybear: I really hope my water breaks again this time. So easy to not question if the contractions were the real thing or not. Mine broke at exactly 39 weeks and I was almost 3cm when I got to the hospital.

I kinda forgot about losing mucus plug until reading it here! I think (!!?) I lost mine the week I had both my kids. I remember the grossness of losing it both times, but foggy on when it actually was compared to labour.

38w tomorrow and appt again....weekly time! eeeek!

We got baby name list from 48 to 24 last night, progress

  27. babypugs

    persimmon / 1101 posts

@Chillybear: @smurfette: Yeah, I kind of wish my doc's office didn't because while logically and statistically I KNOW it means nothing, it has me on alert and I'm overthinking everything! My water never broke last time so I'm like...cramp? contraction? what's up??

@sunnyday: Lol. Maybe you won't know until you see the baby!

  28. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

So I got a stomach bug last night that seem to have put me into labor... Currently timing contractions... Seems to be about 3 and a half min apart but last no more than 45-50 secs

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@sunnyday: Wow. Long list. I would be going crazy not having a name. Even though we don't call her by her name, since we don't want to slip and say it in front of someone. LO's teacher said all the kids were asking her what baby sister's name was going to be and she said she doesn't have a name, we are going to call her baby sister. ha!
@babypugs: I am so afraid that I won't get the hospital in time cause I will think the contractions aren't the real thing till too late.
@snowjewelz: oh wow! Exciting! Did you call your OB? LO was up Sat night puking with a bug, this is one reason I was so afraid about catching it.

  30. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Smurfette: I did.. Contractions were crazy painful last night but I was too sick to keep track so now I am... And have to call them back to see what I should do. I really don't want to go tho bc I want to feel better first! What if I diarrhea and can't move with epidural in! Or I have no energy to push bc I haven't eaten!

@snowjewelz: good luck?!? Today could be a very exciting day!

  32. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@snowjewelz: !!!! Are you sure it was a bug and not just the start of labor? If it was a bug I hope you're feeling recovered enough to get through the next day and bring baby girl here! Keep us posted if you can!!

My midwife practice doesn't check for dilation before 40 weeks either, I think just b/c they don't think it's a good indication of anything and also b/c it can cause cramping and spotting and mess with your head. I've always reassured doula clients about not getting checked and encouraged them to decline checks but now I'm like...hmm I AM curious if all these BH's are doing anything!!!

  33. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@snowjewelz: Oh man. Well hopefully at least they'll be able to give you meds in your IV to stop any vomiting and diarrhea. But maybe contractions are from dehydration and once you can rehydrate things will taper...thinking of you!!

  34. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@IRunForFun: I got checked yesterday.. You think that's messing with everything? I am reading that chills/diarrhea are signs of labor so I have no idea if it's a bug or labor...?! So confusing! And my contractions are all over the place...

  35. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@snowjewelz: 1) you won't be the first person to poop all over. the nurses are use to it. but I still understand that fear. But the fear of having a baby at home is worse to me. 2) You will be able to push. They should be able to give you fluids so you feel better too. Did you try and drink some Gatorade?

  36. IRunForFun

    pomelo / 5509 posts

@snowjewelz: I'm not sure! Diarrhea can definitely be a sign of the body clearing itself out before labor and feeling flu-like symptoms is also pretty common. It's anybody's guess but hopefully your OB can give you some answers.

@Smurfette: My daughter says the baby is named Stella or Emily....DS just follows suit....or will protest that it's not a girl, haha! We didn't have names for the first two, so this isn't surprising, but we definitely had a few faves (top 3!) and one of those became their name! This time.....just useless. First two are English and Scottish names with strong Scottish last name with two parents who work in education, we'll figure it out.

Today going too fast. I am looking at vacation rentals for next summer, lol.

At the hospital! 3cm. Have a fever so I gotta get some meds and fluid through IV. apparently my water broke already and the bug may have come from me infecting myself.
