July 2013 Due Dates!

I just got back from my appointment... and things are happening! Last week I was closed and long, and today at 37 weeks 2 days... I'm 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced and he's at -2 station, so my doctor could feel the top of his head! I am so relieved, primarily because I had myself convinced he was breech again... but he's in position! It's cool to see that I went from nothing last week, to something this week.

He also estimated that he was currently between 6.5 to 7 lbs. He estimates him to be 7.5 lbs or so at birth. Curious to see how accurate he is, as they tend to be off with those estimates!

@Pepper: I'm going to take my hospital bag, and maybe a few things for LO. I don't want to go too crazy, as she'll likely still be in my belly by the time construction is over.

@deerylou: @Pepper: Exciting!! I love that y'all are getting estimates of weight, I can't wait to see if they are accurate!

@Pepper: So glad to hear you had nothing to worry about with the breech thing!

@deerylou: You seem to have a very good attitude about the construction thing-- good you for you! You're right, you will probably be back at home well before baby gets here.

We had our childbirth prep class today, and annoyingly... I don't feel like we really learned much at all, even DH who doesn't spend lots of time on HB! I'm glad we went, but it has sort of made me reconsider any other classes.

Did you all take a basic baby care class? Or infant first aid//CPR? They will teach us stuff in the hospital so now I'm leaning towards just getting the Happiest Baby on the Black DVD on netflix and being done with it! Not sure about the first aid though, every once in a while I read a story and I'm like, it would be dumb not to, just in case, right?

My maternity leave starts one month from tomorrow, which I'm super excited about! I'll be 38 weeks, which sounds good to me.

@Foodnerd81: We're not taking any baby classes, but I am certified in pediatric CPR/AED through my work. I think that's definitely worth it, and they also go over a little first aid as well.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah, we don't plan on taking any childbirth classes. I asked around and it seemed that for the money, I'd be better off watching YouTube birth videos and getting on HB As for baby care, like you said, we can ask things in the hospital and plus my DH is a baby expert from his multitude of nieces and nephews lol. I do intend on taking a baby CPR class here pretty soon, I just need to remember to sign up!! Luckily DH already knows baby CPR, so it's just my lazy butt that needs to get it done

@Foodnerd81: The only class I took was a breastfeeding class. It was pretty informative. We never took any childbirth or parenting classes. My brother is a paramedic, and my mom and SIL are nurses so they are going to teach me infant & child CPR and first aid.

@rahlyrah: I would like someone to just teach me without having to pay for and sit through a whole class! My hospital offers a breastfeeding class every morning that new moms are encouraged to attend the day after they give birth, plus they have LC that visit every new mom, so I feel like just reading up is going to be enough. I may regret that, who knows?

@Foodnerd81: Honestly, between HB and your LC, you'll be fine!

@Pepper:I feel the same! Feeling good!!! Minimal cramping but i have noticed im very sensitive to overheating. Have had a few times where I get hot, shaky, and weak. But no signs or symptoms of upcoming labor.....I have 9 days until due date : ). My Dr. will induce at 41 weeks which would put me in the 1 st week of July. But I'll worry about that if I cross that path. : )

@jh524: I've been getting crazy overheated as well. I mean, I live in Texas and its 95+ these days, but even inside my house or taking a shower I'm getting too hot! I'm just glad I don't have to be pregnant in August!

I've been sleeping in a pair of underwear, and I'm usually the type to sleep in a top and pair of bottoms. It's just been so warm.

I have also been *so* overly emotional, i.e. crying multiple times a day. Nesting has hit me, hardcore, and it's literally making me crazy. I can't sleep, can't eat, can't relax - not before I organize our toiletries, revamp the laundry cabinet, or disinfect the kitchen cupboards. I feel completely overwhelmed, like nothing is going to get done in time. I kinda hate this.

@Bookworm: haha I'm trying. I plan to spend August in a pool. Right now I'm lying in my basement which is not even that warm and a trail of sweat is still dripping down my stomach.... Awesome! Ice cream time I think!

  27. jh524

    pear / 1632 posts

@Bookworm: ahaha too funny, @delight: yes, the heat is tough!! It's 80s here ( but high elevation ) and feels so dang hot!! I can't imagine 95+, I'd melt or have to be in the water 24/7!!!! And Ice cream is a must!! I have it every day fudge bars and dreamsicles !!!!!

@deerylou: I've been sleeping in the same. It sounds like your def. in nesting mode. Nearing the end is very emotional anyways and it seems if I wear myself out by doing too much, then I get super emotional. Sleep is your best friend in those times!!!

@jh524: @Bookworm: @delight: Glad I'm not the only one burning up sometimes! I wake up sweating every night, which is very unusual for me... I tend to run cold!

@deerylou: I've been pretty emotional too... I cried last night for 10 minutes because I saw a movie and the baby jumped at a couple loud parts. I felt like the worst mom ever, which is so ridiculous. I hope you're able to relax, I know nesting can be so consuming.

I wake up sweaty pretty much every night. I hug one pillow to my chest and every time I wake up to pee, it's damp from sweat. Hot, right? I was thinking I should put a waterproof case around it before I do permanent stink damage or something.

Hi ladies... Glad to hear everyone is doing well! The heat is starting to get to me too. I'm dreading it during the next month of pregnancy and first weeks of postpartum (the sweating!). On the plus side, I got a delicious watermelon and have nearly consumed the entire thing in two days-- with a little help from DH.

I sure don't have the energy for nesting, but I've started doing a few little things. Mainly I'm getting a guest room and bathroom set up for all our visitors. I'm counting down until my mom comes July 6!!

@glimmersnaps: lol. I did eat a whole watermelon to myself in the last two days!! Ya know, those things aren't as big as they look ; )

HI everyone! I'm really late to the party, but can I still join?

EDD July 18th, Team (hot) Pink!

Starting a few days ago, sleep has been torture!! Once I fall asleep it's deep, but I wake up because whatever side I'm laying on that arm is numb and crushed. And to roll over is a fiasco: my stomach KILLS when I transition to my back to flip. And if I try to prop up, sit, and roll... my wrists/arms hurt as I push off because I have pregnancy carpal. This "enjoy your sleep now" is not applicable!!!

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@MrsLilybugg: Welcome! For sleeping, I was just flipping through a Bradley Method book last night and he recommends side laying with your bottom arm behind you-- you could check that out-- I'm sure you can just google image it, but maybe not at work since the illustrations seem to have a lot of nudity I hear you on the rolling over though. I can't help but grunt every time, too.

@MrsLilybugg: Welcome! I'll add you to the list I've been having issues with sleeping/rolling as well. I've noticed that if I roll towards my belly (so it's beneath me instead of over me when I'm mid-turn, like I'm about to do a push-up!), it's not *quite* as painful.

@Foodnerd81: THANKS! It looks awkward but also can see how that will help with the "arm crushing" - I'm going to try it tonight! (image was totally nekkid - thank goodness nobody is around me at work!)

@MrsLilybugg: I warned you! I kept showing the pictures to DH last night. Like, this is how you have to help me squat. You may wear really small shorts but I have to be totally naked. In this position, you can wear pants with a belt but no shirt, again, I must be naked. I think I missed the point, possibly.
