Aaaand there goes the a/c. Ugh!! We have a freon leak and had to get it topped off last year, and yesterday it definitely stopped blowing cold air and today it won't get below 79. Its 95+ out there! I'm melting :((( What really sucks is ours is a freon they are phasing out so this fix is gonna cost us at least a few hundred bucks.

Wahhh pity party for an overheated pregnant lady :'(

I've been up all night tonight, ugh! I was having mildly painful contractions that wrapped back to front for several hours... they eventually stopped but now I can't sleep! I wonder if this is how things are going to go for the next 2 weeks. Anyone else having this kind of thing happen at night?

  4. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Pepper: Oh no, I'm sorry you couldn't sleep. Did these contractions feel different to the ones you've been having over the last few months? I wonder if it's a sign that something's happening!! Oh and in answer to your question, no I haven't had this happen but I'm a few weeks behind you!!

@Bookworm: How are you coping with the heat? I hope you are okay. How awful....! It's not even that warm over here and I'm melting!!!

  5. Pepper

    pomelo / 5820 posts

@Cherrybee: They are different because they're actually somewhat painful. The BH contractions I had weren't painful and they only happened to the front of my belly... never back to front like this! I actually have my 38 week appointment today, so I guess I'll see what my doctor has to say. How are you feeling??

  6. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Pepper: I'm feeling really, really good thanks! Since this pelvic pain/sciatica magically disappeared overnight at 30 weeks and I've got this GD under control, I hardly feel pregnant at all! I danced half the night at my BIL's wedding, I painted the lounge last weekend...! People keep telling me I look like I'm going to pop (thanks for that, work colleague) but I just don't feel like that at all!! I'm not really sleeping though, that's tough - I lie awake thinking about the jobs I need to do like mowing the lawn and planting flowers in my garden pots!! Darn nesting!! I have my growth scan on Monday and I'm hoping to get a date for induction (due to my GD).

Hmm - I wonder if this means that you will be even more dilated at this appointment?! Will they check you again? It's a bit exciting, huh?!!

  7. Pepper

    pomelo / 5820 posts

@Cherrybee: Oh that's great that you are feeling so good, and that you have the GD under control! I totally understand the sleep issues... I haven't been up all night since my party days, and even then I was able to fall asleep by this time, lol! Will they induce you at 38 or 39 weeks?

They should check me again today, but if I haven't made any progress with these contractions, I may shed a tear! The downside to those checks is the disappointment, that's for sure!

  8. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Pepper: Just remember how quickly things can turn on a sixpence in this game. Even if you seem to have made "no progress" in centimeter terms, your muscles are totally gearing up for labour, putting the baby in the best possible position and then when the time is absolutely perfect you could go from where you are to 5cm in an hour or so!!! Labour's mad - and the key, from what I've read here, is not to get discouraged!!

I don't know how long they will let me go - i'm really hoping they will tell me on Monday when they do the growth scan. I'm on GD medication - but not insulin - but my numbers are looking pretty good. Providing she isn't measuring huge I think I will be allowed to go to 39 weeks.... but I'll let you know!! In truth, I've made my peace with it all - I just want them to do whatever it takes to get this little girl into the world safely. If that means a planned section at 37 weeks then they can go for it. If it means a super painful induction at 39 weeks, knock yourselves out! Just get her here and stitch me up afterwards!

@Cherrybee: Very good points! You have a great attitude, especially regarding your own birth experience. I'm of the same mindset - I don't care how he gets here, as long as he is healthy!

@Cherrybee, @Pepper: you two are cute! Love your positive attitudes!!! Good luck at your appt today....i'm 39 weeks plus 1 and my dr. Induces at 41 weeks. That's only two weeks away and I can totally handle that!! I certainly don't feel miserable. I feel good but have days where I struggle...like trying to get out of bed ( visualize beached whale stuck in its 4inch foam mattress topper) I'm looking forward to my appt tomorrow to see if anything has changed...just been having cramps daily...

@Pepper: @Cherrybee: Well, I managed to stay cool, but I also turned into Excorcist girl yesterday... I don't know if it was the heat or what but I had a second round of all day throwing up and misery They gave me Zofran, which didn't work, and something I can't remember the name of, which finally did (thank goodness, because I was on the verge of being hospitalized for dehydration)...but yeah, yesterday was hands down the worst day of my pregnancy so far. I have my appointment today so I'm just hoping I've made miraculous progress and will have my lovely baby OUT soon

I'm glad you both are doing well! I'm really trying to be positive but gosh, after days like yesterday, it's hard....

On the plus side, it only cost 100$ to fix my a/c!!

  12. Pepper

    pomelo / 5820 posts

@Bookworm: Oh you poor thing!! That sounds absolutely miserable. Here's hoping you show lots of progress today and baby is coming sooner rather than later! Silver lining with your air conditioner, that's not too bad at all!

@jh524: I definitely have the beached whale stuck in a foam topper look going on too, haha. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow! You're so close!

    cherry / 204 posts

@Bookworm: oh no. I hope you are feeling better today!!! Throwing up is the worst. I can't believe Zofran didn't give you any relief but glad something worked! Good luck with your apt today! We have one too but we're only 35w4d. Stay positive and you're LO will be here soon!!! Thinking of you.

@Pepper: I hope you have made progress with your contractions you were discussing. I have had some pain, not sure if it's BH or contractions. They ARE painful... but my stomach is also tightening... so not really sure. Any insight?

  14. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Bookworm: That's great news about your a/c. I'm so glad you could get it fixed. I'm so sorry about the sickness though - I can't imagine being sick at this stage, it must be awful. Get lots of rest, lots of fluids down you and I will keep my fingers crossed that baby bookworm comes sooner rather than later.

@jh524: Tee heee, beached whale stuck in a mattress topper! That image made me crack up! Daily cramps, eh? Maybe you will be our next June/July mamma!

@SouthPaw: Hmm, I wonder what your contractions are! I haven't got a clue - at 34 weeks I've had nothing of the sort yet. I'm going to freak out if I get a BH contraction, I'll be at the hospital demanding an epidural!!

  15. Pepper

    pomelo / 5820 posts

@SouthPaw: My BH contractions are just a tightening feeling. It just feels like my belly becomes a clenched fist, if that makes sense! Now that I'm bigger, they occasionally become uncomfortable, but mine are not painful (though I have heard of women having ones that cause them pain!).

The contractions I had last night also had tightening, but with pain that wrapped from my back to my front at the same time. My doctor says this is a good thing, and pain is what generally causes change... So we'll see! With my luck I'll have pain until 42 weeks, lol.

Sooo I just lost my plug... hmmm... labor soon or labor in 3 weeks, who knows!! I love how all of these little signs and symptoms don't really mean anything for sure, haha.

@Pepper: Woohoo! Don't you just love how now you REALLY feel like it will be soon... or in three weeks... Either way, something's happening!

@Bookworm: I can't believe your a/c broke on top of everything else! I am glad it got fixed right away and I hope you are feeling better. That sounds awful!

Not much happening here. Only 34 weeks so that's a good thing. Just getting slower, and more tired. My maternity leave starts 4 weeks from today and I'm so ready to be done here-- like emotionally, still have TONS of stuff to tie up first!

Thank you for description of the contractions. I was talking with the Dr. today and she said that BH are good and are contractions just not labor... Can never get straight answer;)

@Foodnerd81: @Cherrybee: @SouthPaw: Thanks for the sympathy, ladies I appreciate it a lot!! I'm feeling better today, just exhausted and still have no appetite. I actually lost weight since my last appt for the first time all pregnancy! Buuut I am at 2cm now! Progress!! She said again that she doesn't think I'll have to go full term, with the baby as low as she is already. Here's hoping!!

Trying not to get my hopes up!

Out of curiosity, I asked my doctor today how long they'd make me go before induction (if I was overdue) and he said they don't induce until 42 weeks. Omg I couldn't imagine being pregnant for 42 weeks!! I'm hoping this plug means that won't be an issue, haha.

@deerylou: I really didn't feel anything! I noticed it came out in the bathroom.

@Bookworm: 2 cm is great!! Very promising I think!

  25. Foodnerd81

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@Pepper: Interesting-- I'm the opposite-- at my first appointment I asked how long they would *let* me go before inducing-- I really don't want to be induced even if it means being pregnant longer. But that's probably easier to say from back her, 4 weeks behind you!

  26. deerylou

    pomegranate / 3003 posts

So, I see my OB tomorrow, and am worried I might be developing a UTI. I have never had a UTI, yeast, or bladder infection before (no idea how I lucked out in this area), so I'm a little unsure about my symptoms.

TMI, ahoy, but whatever. I've been feeling the urge to urinate quite frequently, but will often only have a tiny little tinkle. It burns a little, too. I feel swollen and uncomfortable in my nether regions, front and back. I'm 38 weeks, and don't know whether this is normal, or if something else is going on. I feel like icing my vagine, though, to be honest.

Did this happen to anyone else?

  27. Pepper

    pomelo / 5820 posts

@Foodnerd81: I guess I worded that poorly... I don't want to be induced unless it's necessary (meaning I wouldn't want to schedule an elective one). I was just curious when they do them if you're overdue. I really couldn't imagine being pregnant at 42 weeks though! Hoping he decides to come on his own before then

@deerylou: I haven't had a UTI while pregnant, but when I've had them in the past, I had a lot of pain while urinating. I hope you feel better

  28. Foodnerd81

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@Pepper: yeah my sister had my nephew at ten days past her due date. She was very very ready for him but really nervous for an induction. He finally came on his own.

  29. glimmersnaps

    apricot / 491 posts

@Deerylou Aww sorry to hear that! They will probably get a urine sample to see what's going on. I'm sometimes pretty tender down there and I've been using my postpartum spray (Earth Mama Angel Baby Happy Mama Spray) and it helps.

I'm only 36 weeks and I am pretty sure she's already dropped. My chiropractor said her head wasn't engaged but it's really low. I think she still bobs up a little because I can feel her head on one side.

I'm starting to come to terms with the idea that I'm really going to have a baby, lol. I'm going to write a birth plan one of these days. Is anyone thinking about trying for a water birth? I really wanted one the first time, but ended up having to go to the hospital and it wasn't possible there.

    pear / 1632 posts

@deerylou: sorry your feeling icky, that sounds so uncomfortable...as if just being this pregnant isn't uncomfortable enough....Hopefully the doc can get you on some medicine to get it taken care of quickly!!

@glimmersnaps: I would love to try the water birth but my hospital doesn't have that option

@Pepper: thanks, hopefully there will be some progress!

    @Cherrybee: yeah, it's not a pretty sight!!

@deerylou: bring it up to your dr.! I thought the same thing (35w4d) and talked to her yesterday she said they tested and it came back negative but that his head is SO low that it's constantly on my bladder. The only thing that makes me think you might have one is you described burning... good luck! Normally they will give you 'loading dose' of antibiotics that will speed up your relief. Good luck today!!

@Bookworm: 2 cm! Wooooo! I am glad to hear you are feeling better. Keep drinking water and getting ready, so excited to hear how you progress!!!

@Foodnerd81: I actually got a visual of waddling into August I am with you on not wanting to get induced... we are hoping to go natural and I heard Pitocin will make it *more* hellish.

@Cherrybee: The BH were definitely uncomfortable and kind of gave me an oh $h1t moment of I have not mentally prepared for this BUT I drank a ton of water and started to feel better. When I told DH about them we wrote down our to-do list and are kicking it in high gear to get ready...

@jh524: have you had your apt yet? any progress??

@glimmersnaps: I so badly wanted a water birth!!!! They have tubs at our hospital but you can't actually birth in it. DH is terrified of having a baby anywhere BUT a hospital so... maybe next time I'll be able to sway him to a birthing center with tubs. I hope you're able to have one!! What format are you going to write your birth plan up in? Bulleted form or more essay?

We had an appointment yesterday and had an ultrasound. On the ultrasound it showed he is head *way* down still but his belly is smaller than normal - the ultrasound tech obviously wouldn't give us more info and we had to wait for our Dr. The Dr. was at the hospital dealing with an emergency so we were waiting for an hour... then I googled :woof: bad idea. When we met with the doc she said that his weight is great (60th percentile) and he's just a long lean baby. Mind at ease, wish the tech would have downplayed it more so I could have avoided - induction, injection and chromosomal research.

Hope you ladies all have a great day!!

Have you all written up birth plans? Anyone want to share? My hospital already does a lot of what I know I want-- delayed cord clamping, immediate skin to skin, breastfeeding support, they'll do some tests while the baby is still on your chest, minimal cervical checks, perineum massage as baby's head is stretching. I tried to keep mine to the bare minimum but letting them know certain things that are important to me. What do you think:

Birth Preferences if everything goes smoothly:

    Labor:
    • We do not know the sex of the baby. Please let my husband announce it.
    • I am attempting natural childbirth. Please do not offer interventions or pain relief unless labor is stalling and you believe it will help move things along or otherwise medically necessary.
    • I prefer to be able to be up and moving as long as possible. I would like the option of laboring in a tub if possible.
    • I respond well to directions, verbal coaching and explanations are appreciated!
    • We are not cord blood banking, prefer delayed clamping if no other complications.

    After Delivery:
    • Exclusively breastfeeding, no pacifiers or formula without express permission
    • My husband should remain with the baby when he or she goes to the nursery to be checked
    • Will circumcise if a boy

  33. SouthPaw

    cherry / 204 posts

@Foodnerd81: I have definitely thought of my birth plan but haven't put it into writing!

I think that your word choices are great, it's not demanding or off putting to read.

My only comment as I also am attempting a natural birth is "you believe it will help move things along" that could open the door to Pitocin or them potentially breaking your water early (which I have heard having the sac intact could potentially act as a shock absorber lessening the feeling of intensity of the contractions longer).

I do think it's great and this is the approach (bulleted) that I will take as I don't want to come across as demanding or needy

  34. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Foodnerd81: Hahaha!! Waddling into August!! Cackle!! That's funny. As for a birth plan - I was going to have one but since the GD diagnosis and my coming to terms with having to be induced (probably), which means I will be strapped to monitors, unable to move far from the bed, unable to labour in the tub, loaded up on picotin etc, my plan goes more like this:

    - do whatever you need to do to get her here safely. If that involves a section, do it. Saw me in half if you want.
    - do whatever you can to make sure I don't make too much of a scene because my hubby will not let me live it down! Pain relief offers are welcome - I will take it if I need it.
    - do whatever you need to do to make her happy and healthy, be it pacifier, formula or a cheeky gin and tonic.
    - When it's all over, fetch me wine. Fetch.Me.Wine.

@deerylou: Yes, that sounds like a UTI. You poor thing, that must be awful! I've been getting the needing to pee (every time I stand up) then only have a tiny, unsatisfactory tinkle (the baby is probably on my bladder) but I haven't had the burning or the swollen feeling - that's very UTI-esque. I hope they sort it soon for you.

@SouthPaw: Picotin?? Hellish?? Surely not!! I'm likely to be induced, so I'm choosing to ignore all suggestions that picotin is anything other than a dream!! I'm sorry they scared you so much and I'm glad your LO is looking great. Long and lean sounds perfect! Dr Google has a lot to answer for!!

  35. Foodnerd81

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@SouthPaw: That's a good point. I might rephrase it to just medically necessary.

@Cherrybee: I like your outlook, especially the final 'fetch me wine'. You deserve it!

  36. SouthPaw

    cherry / 204 posts

@Cherrybee: Oye... sorry to use the word hellish. Poor choice on my part. Based off of what I have read from fellow HBers (http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/pitocin#post-32459) it just seems that with Pitocin it speeds it up and makes them unbearable vs buildup etc. My apologies!

Wine - I will add that to mine lol.

@Foodnerd81: I think medically necessary will be how we word it too!! We went on our hospital tour and were asking about natural birth options etc. and our nurse who was providing the tour told us that they have a 98% epidural rate, heart sank.

  37. Foodnerd81

    wonderful cherry / 21504 posts

@SouthPaw: Ours bragged about a 50% epidural rate or less! So I'm really not that worried about them pushing stuff on me. And their c-section rate is only 20%, but of course, people will higher risk pregnancies would probably choose a different hospital in the area.

@Cherrybee: What I hear about pitocin is that it makes the contractions harder to bear without an epidural. If you want the epidural anyway, then I don't think it's such a big deal. And like you said, the healthy baby is the important part!

  38. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@SouthPaw: Lol. I'm only kidding around. I *know* picotin is the devil! I'm making a huge joke out of it because if I don't I might refuse to be induced, go on the run and give birth to a 15lb GD baby in the woods somewhere!!

@Foodnerd81: I really, really wanted a natural birth and was 100% committed to not having an epidural because I was scared it would slow down my contractions and lead to a host of other interventions. But as I'm starting out from a place of intervention, I'm just going to take it in my stride and see how I feel. I'd rather avoid the epi but if the picotin contractions are that bad at least I know I can get some relief that way....

  39. SouthPaw

    cherry / 204 posts

@Cherrybee: lol run give birth in the woods somewhere... oh boy. I completely admire your desire to have a natural birth and acceptance of an induction!!! Honestly my desire for natural is I am deathly afraid of needles... deathly...

@Foodnerd81: oh great! I am glad you have such a great hospital to go to. We got locked in at ours due to our early complications and being new to the area. Plus the hospital is literally 2 to 3 miles from our house!

  40. Bookish

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts

@Cherrybee: Bahaha your birth plan sounds just like mine! I started off really wanting to try natural, etc., but frankly, I just want her out, and I'm starting to be very open to whatever happens, happens. If I'm able to go no meds and avoid interventions, then I'll be thrilled, but if not, whatev, get her out safe, lemme count her toes and snuggle, then bring me a beer.

We'll see how that last part goes

For those of you who have had cervical checks, how did you feel afterwards? The first one I had, I had zero spotting or cramps, but yesterday I had some spotting and all day today I've had a TON of pressure and weird twinges. It seriously feels like she's about to fall out. I'm trying not to get my hopes up that it's things progressing more......
