hey ladies. had some spotting this morning so called my dr and she told me to go to my hospital imaging center for an ultrasound. baby looked great and heart beat was good but when they checked my cervix it looked slightly shorter. I am now back on progesterone and on bed rest until monday when I go back to dr. they are worried I could be having an mc.. very scared but trying to stay strong and saying lots of prayers. please keep me in your thoughts. thanks

@littleredhairedgrl: I'm sorry lady, it's so hard not to worry in these situations. I'll be thinking good thoughts and say a prayer for you!

Update from today. I had an appointment with specialist to see if my SCH had causes placenta separation. Bottom line is that the specialist didn't feel 100% confident that it's a separation, but since I had bleeding he is going to treat it like a separation and continue to monitor in addition to my normal OB appts. Baby's is still active and right on growth, so as long as that continues there's no harm to baby. The spot we are talking about is around 1in and about 10% of the placenta. The doctors have to go through all the worse cause scenarios, and my miscarriage chance is back up to 10%, but I'm just having to remind myself that that means 90% chance everything will be fine, and as long as the spot doesn't get worse (which it hasn't in past 2 weeks) baby is just fine.

Yikes guys! I started working on registries today. Set them up as not searchable for now. I'm so overwhelmed! I have already been researching items, but it is so hard to know since, ya know, I've never had a kid!! Lol. And we are pretty minimalist, so I really don't want a bunch of stuff just because people are willing to buy it! I am planning on Target and Amazon registries.
Where are y'all registering?
2nd time moms - got any tips or suggestions for us 1st timers?
nectarine / 2134 posts
@runnerd: I started a private amazon wishlist with different ideas for things, and will probably do a real registry once we have our 20 week scan. I'll probably just register on Amazon. My mom and I went to Buy Buy Baby and I couldn't handle it -- it's exactly like Bed Bath and Beyond, but with baby stuff floor to ceiling. Way too anxiety inducing for me. And I won't even bother stepping into BRU -- I can't handle the website (when I've bought stuff for other people's registries). I'm really picky about where I shop apparently hahaha.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@NorCalWayfarer: haha I am not touching BRU!! I am in process of transferring my amazon wish list ideas to actual registries.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@runnerd: I'm a third timer but all I can say is don't stress! BRU still annoys me, so much that I decided I wouldn't go in there after having my first. Baby's are so simple. I felt silly after I bought a swing, a bouncer, a bassinet, a crib and then all my baby wanted to do was sleep on me haha.
(Not that we didn't need a place for baby to sleep but I could have done without until I at least figured out what my baby liked/didn't like).

hey ladies thank you all for the well wishes! after a week of bed rest and starting up the progesterone suppositories again we went back today for a followup. while my cervix has not gotten shorter, it is still shorter than they'd like it to be and my doctor told me that (due to my history of having a cervical leep done a few yrs ago) she would do a cervical cerclage on thursday if we wanted. but she wanted me to take the night and think it through and didn't want to push me into it. i will be 17 weeks on thursday and still not sure what to do.. on the one hand the cerclage would make me feel more confident that things will progress like they should, but on the other i am concerned about the potential risks. urgh.. just want things to go smoothly..

@HLK208: I'm hoping to be able to borrow things like the swing, bouncer, etc from a friend. I have a hard time wanting to register for space-consuming expensive items like that when I have no idea if baby will even like it!
@littleredhairedgrl: I have no experience with either of those, but glad to hear you are doing better and hugs/prayers to you and LO

@runnerd: We went to BRU a couple of weeks ago and that place was just overwhelming, I agree! Just too many choices for the same damn thing. I've been putting together a list of "essentials" as recommended by books and stuff but I don't want a ton of crap that the baby will not use. We are getting a lot of our furniture from friends and family and we also have a stockpile of toys and clothes (mostly boy clothes) from them. We'll wait until we know the gender before we go any further. I'm thinking of BRU for a registry just for the convenience that people can go to but also Amazon. I put coffee on the Amazon one - it's essential!
@littleredhairedgrl: Wishing you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do and glad that your doctor did not push you.
nectarine / 2134 posts
@MK0180: Oh coffee! That's a good idea! Why not put some stuff for mom and dad on there?!
kiwi / 545 posts
@NorCalWayfarer:
I actually read somewhere that some people do put giftcards to restaurants or coffee places for mom and dad on their registries

I can't remember if anyone asked this recently, but has anyone started feeling movement? I'm 16w5d, and every time I lay down I concentrate hoping to feel something, I'm pretty sure I'm going to trick myself into thinking I did soon, since I want a kick so badly!!
kiwi / 633 posts
@runnerd: At 17w2d I haven't felt anything yet I really expected it before now. I have a tipped uterus and anterior placenta so both of those things are working against me.. but I would love some physical reinforcement that there's really a little person in there!
nectarine / 2134 posts
@runnerd: I'm 18w1d and can feel movement -- started feeling what I thought was movement at around 16 weeks, but never when I was quietly laying down, it was always randomly. I still don't feel movement consistently though, maybe 2-3 times a day and it feel like a little flutter/bubble/tugging. Excited for you and @thismustbetheplace to feel movement in the next couple of weeks! FYI my OB said most 1st time moms don't usually feel it until 18-20 weeks.
apricot / 452 posts
@runnerd: I am 19w2days and I am feeling movement. It started about 2 weeks ago, but I couldn't tell if that was the baby or something else. Now I definitely know that it is the baby. It's still not consistent but its there. DH hasn't been able to feel it yet.

@NorCalWayfarer: @justdarling: ahhh I'm so ready! get excited just reading about ya'll feeling it
@thismustbetheplace: hopefully it's right around the corner for us!

@runnerd: Definitely feeling movement now at 16w6d. I get little bubbles/pops/punches/kicks about 3 times a day. They go in spurts, usually after I eat. I really hope you start feeling baby moving soon -- it's so special!
kiwi / 545 posts
@runnerd: I don't know if I am or not! I *think* feel little flutters or kicks but I'm not 100% sure. I felt some fluttering going on while I was in my prenatal yoga class last week (@17wks) but thought it may be due to stretching and I felt this kick-like sensation this morning getting ready for work. It was in my lower belly, below my bellybutton. But then I got weirded out and thought maybe it was a gas bubble or something.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@runnerd: I've been feeling movement since about 13w with this baby but with baby #1 never felt anything until 19w. you will soon be able to feel your sweet baby and the wait will be beyond worth it! It's my favorite aspect of pregnancy!
kiwi / 633 posts
@MK0180: I'm embarrassed to admit that I have so much gas these days I don't know how I would tell the difference! I feel bubbles ALL.THE.TIME! poor baby has probably been kicking away and I just think she's a fart-in-progress. hahaha
kiwi / 545 posts
@thismustbetheplace: LOL "fart in progress"! I am so gassy, too, it's unbelievable!

Oh PS got our second trimester screening results back and chance of Downs went down even lower and chance of Trisomy 18 remained the same (still low) so that was reassuring to hear this week!
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
Just wanted to chime in and say I'm soooo excited to start feeling movement as well! Just at 16 weeks now so I know it could be a while but I'm so anxious. It sounds amazing. Love hearing when others start to feel movement too!

I'm 15 weeks and 3 days and gave been feeling movement. This is my second though, so I'm more in tune to how it feels I think. With my first I dint feel anything until 18 weeks or so.
kiwi / 714 posts
I am 17 weeks as of yesterday and still not feeling movement. The nurses I've talked to said with your first it's pretty uncommon before 18-20 weeks. I'm super excited to start feeling the baby though!
Has anyone had random sharp pains in their side/pelvis? The past week or so it's been happening off and on at random. Not sure whether to be concerned or if it's just ligaments moving around.

I'm 16wks and I'm not feeling any movements yet. I sometimes try to concentrate on it, but I feel nothing yet. Looking forward to it but also I think I might be a bit freaked out - like there's really someone in there!

@lauraeabel: still nothing here too at 17w2d
@NorCalWayfarer: yay for good results!

I am so excited! Today is FINALLY our anatomy scan. It's not until the end of the day but I'll check in afterwards to update you ladies on whether baby 2 is a boy or a girl! I'm excited to find that aspect out, but I'm also just hoping that everything looks healthy for our little one.
How are all of you doing?? Anything fun planned for Valentine's Day? Have you bought anything recently for your LO? Anyone else starting to feel movement?
Let's liven this thread up, ladies!
kiwi / 633 posts
@coopsmama: Hooray for your anatomic!!! Mine is a week from tomorrow. I can't wait to hear what you're having!
V-day will be pretty quiet for us, my only requirement was chocolate covered strawberries to share (major craving!) We usually do cards for each other but I don't think we'll do dinner out or anything.
I'm still feeling lots of indistinguishable gas/belly rumblings, but nothing I can pin down to a "kick" yet... hopefully soon...

Just starting to feel movement at 16 weeks. Found out the gender... it's a girl! We are overjoyed!
