@runnerd: I definitely agree that with dogs, hardwood or tile is the way to go! All but our living room on our main level (including the master bedroom) has hard floors and I love it!

@MK0180: congrats on the boy! So exciting!

@MK0180: congrats! Yay another boy mama!

Had a quick check-up today. Heard baby heartbeat on Doppler nothing else of interest to note. My big appt with the specialist is tues with growth ultrasound and to monitor the placenta abruption.

I am about 75% I've felt something every day this week that is probably baby moving around!!

@NorCalWayfarer: Have fun at your appointment today!!! We are having our sonographer give us a sealed envelope with the gender so we won't really find out until tomorrow (DH's birthday party). But I'm so excited to see this little person again!!!

My husband posted a picture of me while on our babymoon on FB this week and his cousin posted this gem:

"Whooo -- that sure is a girl -- look at how big she is already!"

Thanks a lot, cousin. That's just what I wanted to hear!

Just felt like sharing with my fellow July mamas!

@runnerd: Apparently they never actually changed my due date even though I thought they did! So it's still 7/6 if the list above is still editable! If not, no worries.

@HLK208: Thanks. I just thought it was crazy she would say that since she's had two kids and should know better!

@princessandthebee: I was borderline irritated by the comment but at least some other recently pregnant mamas came to my defense and commented on how tiny my bump is.

@coopsmama: people can be sooo lovely, can't they? We don't find out for another four days, but I had someone tell me the reason I look so awful is I'm having a girl. So that was nice.

Does anyone else have friends/family that are also pregnant around your date? My SIL is due three weeks after me, and a friend is due four days before. The girl due before me just found out she's having a girl, and it made me irrationally sad. I just feel like because we are all so close together in timeframe, the milestones I hit never seem quite special to anyone since someone just did that/is about to. I know this is crazy selfish and stupid, and obviously I'm happy for both of them , it's just a bummer sometimes.

I haven't been sleeping well because of some issues with my parents, so I think tiredness and hormones are just making me extra sensitive.

hey ladies been a while but just popping in to say hi and see how everyone is doing

we had our cerclage placed on February 11 and so far things are looking good - cervix went from as short as 1cm to between 2.1 and 2.6cm and now I go back weekly for checks just to make sure things stay stable. still on bed rest tho and going stir crazy but praying it's all worth it in the end

@lauraeabel: I totally understand your feelings. My cousin is due 3 days after me and my sister in law is due 6 weeks after me. We struggled to conceived for 2 years and did IVF for our miracle and I wanted to have this time be about me and my baby. Now I have to share and I really don't like it. Anytime I talk to a family member they always bring up the other pregnancies. I hate this feeling because I feel selfish but that I shouldn't feel selfish. So, I totally understand where you are coming from and I think it is perfectly ok to be feeling this way.

  21. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@lauraeabel: Yup. I know the feeling. With my first pregnancy, I had two cousins who were pregnant at the same time...we all had our babies within 6 weeks. And we all had boys. Our showers were shared. It just was kind of disappointing to have to be lumped in together.

This time, another one of my cousins is due 3 weeks before me...with a little girl, just like what we're having. She announced (right before we were going to) that they were naming their daughter Genevieve and calling her Evie. We had planned on naming our daughter Geneva and calling her Eva!! What are the odds? So that we disappointing and hard. My cousin also has had to conceive her kids through IVF, so her pregnancies are a little more celebrated than mine are (at least it feels that way when people talk about hers!). And I'm completely happy for her, too, but still sometimes have that selfish feeling creep up if wanting to be in the spotlight alone! I think it's a normal human feeling...and I can promise you, once your baby gets here, it won't matter at all anymore!

@littleredhairedgrl: So glad things are looking better with your situation, even though bed rest must be very hard. Good for you for doing the best thing for your baby! I hope the days go quickly. We're here for you.

@justdarling @coopsmama thanks for making me feel less alone. I know once all the babies are here, it won't matter, i just have moments of weakness where it gets to me.

@littleredhairedgrl: another vote for being glad to hear from you, and glad things are going well still.

@lauraeabel: no one is pregnant around me, but I kinda feel like my stuff isn't too exciting to others since a step behind friends.

Question of the week: do you plan to breastfeed? How important is it to you? What is your goal?

I want to breastfeed for maternity leave, and don't plan to after that unless my supply just holds up. Actually, I more plan to try to pump, not too concerned with actually breastfeeding. And if I only make it to 1 month, really won't be a big deal to me.

I know many women feel much more passionately about BF than me!

  26. thismustbetheplace

    kiwi / 633 posts

@runnerd: I feel pretty strongly about it, but I'm also realistic and realize it doesn't work for everyone. My "plan" is to exclusively breastfeed/pump until I go back to work. Hopefully having a decent stash built up by then. Then DH will bottlefeed breastmilk while i'm at work, and I'll continue to breastfeed when at home. Pipe dreams i'm sure, because even to me that sounds like a recipe for nipple confusion. But a girl can dream

  27. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@runnerd: I breast fed my son exclusively for 5 months and then did combo feeding until recently -- as in last week, recently. My milk supply just dropped so much with this pregnancy and my health was suffering to do both. We found the best formula we could find on the market and he is doing wonderfully on it.

For DD, my goal is to breast feed for a year. We will be a lot more careful to avoid pregnancy instead of NTNP to make this a reality. I am lucky in that, before pregnancy, I didn't have supply issues and since I SAH I don't need to worry about pumping which would make it a thousand times more work!

I think the biggest thing with BFing is just to keep an open mind and be prepared that your expectation may not turn into reality but if it's your goal to BF exclusively -- there are a lot of ways to help make that successful! And if it's not, there are good formulas on the markets and babies grow up just fine on them, too! I should know -- I was 100% formula fed.

@runnerd: what @thismustbetheplace: said. I, too, hope to breastfeed/pump to build up storage during my mat leave. My goal is 6 months if not longer. When I go back to work, I will pump there since we have a "magical" room. I think we will attend a breastfeeding class and I've been reading Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Breastfeeding. I'm excited to breastfeed and hoping I can do it but I know it can be quite difficult and challenging.

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

@thismustbetheplace: @coopsmama: @MK0180: I admire that ya'll are dedicated to keeping at it! I wish it was more important to me, but I will definitely be open to continuing longer if BF/pumping doesn't seem as burdensome and stressful as I fear it will be!

@MK0180: i may check that book out!

  30. NorCalWayfarer

    nectarine / 2134 posts

@runnerd: I definitely plan on it and would like to EBF/EP for a year if possible. I'll be going back to work in November, so I'll have to figure out the pumping thing. I also want to pump while I'm home to build up a stash for when I go back to work.

Has anyone made any nursery purchases or been working on the nursery lately? We've pretty much got ours all cleared out, so we're ready to think about decor and furniture now. We've already started receiving some hand-me-downs so I feel like I want to get started on the nursery before it gets all filled up with stuff!

  31. MK0180

    kiwi / 545 posts

@runnerd: I like it but she does go at it a little bit with hospitals and statistics on not being birth- friendly which may be a little dated (I would think most hospitals are for mommy- baby contact and bf-ing) so I skip over these parts and focus on the actual mechanics of breast feeding, latching, how your milk changes, and basically how you can make it easier for you and baby. She also talks about what happens immediately after birth (as the two topics go hand in hand) which I found fascinating Definitely learning a lot since I know squat about birth and breast feeding!
And in the end, we'll all do what's best for us and babies and what works in our own situations Although every time I walk into BRU and look at the rows and rows of bottles and bf- ing stuff I get a little nauseated!

@NorCalWayfarer: yes! Our nursery is Star Wars and I've been scouring the internet for stuff, we are going to paint the walls a light grey and some type of dark blue. Most of our furniture will be hand me downs which helps with our budget so we can get some cool stuff. Saw Star Wars nurseries on Pinterest a year ago and am really excited to get started!

  33. mlm2934

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

@NorCalWayfarer: I haven't done anything new since we painted. My ILs are about to buy the crib for us! we are going to redo the closet shelving, and I'm so anxious to start on that and buy baby clothes!

@MK0180: don't let my husband see this, he will think you are way cooler than me!

  34. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@runnerd: I had to have breast surgery in my teens (long complicated medical thing) and I have this paranoia that it will make breast feeding impossible. If I can, the ideal is to keep doing it for 12 months or so- incorporating solids at 6months. I don't want to ever exclusively breastfeed, because I want DH and others to feed the baby occasionally and I don't want them to refuse bottles.

This is my never having had babies, hope it happens ideal plan though. We will see what actually happens!

@MK0180: Oh that sounds awesome! I need to start scouring Pinterest for ideas. I pinned a whole bunch of ideas before we found out gender, but now that we know we're having a boy I'm wondering if I should go a little more boy-ey (I just really didn't want a pink nursery if we were having a girl!)

@littleredhairedgrl: Glad to hear everything is ok... and bed rest will definitely be worth it!

@runnerd: Re: breastfeeding... yes I plan to BF. I BF my DS1 for 14 months and never gave him formula. Hoping to be able to do the same for this DS.

@thismustbetheplace: Not pipe dreams at all. I did the whole BF/ pumping thing for 14 months, even while working 70-80 hrs/ week sometimes! My DS didn't have any nipple confusion... I introduced a pacifier to him at 1 month, and bottle around 6-7 weeks.

In all honesty, BF was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I had 3 episodes of mastitis (requiring antibiotics twice). The first 6 weeks were hell, but after that, it became second nature for DS and me. Pumping is annoying, but you do what you gotta do. It takes a lot of dedication, determination, and patience. The bottom line is, you just have to do what's best for you and your child... whether it be BF or FF, or a combination of both.
