    @thismustbetheplace: how cool!! I've only been able to feel movement on the outside a handful of times!

    So how are you ladies doing/handling maternity clothes? I hate spending money on maternity clothes, and I'm getting sick of my rotation!!

    My MIL bought me a few long sleeve tops, and I got a handful of hand me downs for winter, but now that spring is here, I'm about to be down to just having 3 short sleeve tops, 1 pair of cropped jeans, maxi dress and 1 pair of shorts.

    Went on old navy today and bought a pair of long denim shorts, 1 tank, and 1 short sleeve tee. Luckily I work from home so I can wear the same thing multiple times a week if I feel like it

    I think out of my pocket I've spent about $150, and I really don't want to spend more but I'm sure I'll need a swimsuit and baby shower dresses!

    @runnerd: I spent a good amount on clothes prior to being put on bed rest and there are definitely some things I should sell that it won't be necessary to wear from the bed to couch. I bought an adorable Rosie Pope collared dress on Gilt that I wish I could wear! other than that I've been living in leggings and pea in a pod ribbed tank tops and long cardigans. oh and dh's sweats on days I don't feel like getting dressed

    @runnerd: stalking so I thought I would post. If you watch for sales you should be able to get some good stuff but like you said I'm sure you'll want to splurge on a dress or two you really love.

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

    @littleredhairedgrl: love those dresses you posted, but I've not convinced myself to spend more than old navy prices so far

    @T.H.O.U.: yea I keep just telling myself to buy things until I actually need it so I don't over buy. So far I've gotten by with old navy sales

    @littleredhairedgrl: My friend did the free one on BabyCenter and also did this one http://thebestbirth.com/videos/childbirth/ and it includes birth, infant CPR, breastfeeding and newborn care. If you sign up for the newsletter they give you $10 off. I think she liked it (but she isn't due for another month so no report on whether it was actually helpful or not). I know a lot of hospitals offer online classes for mamas who cannot attend in person. Hope you find one you like!

    @runnerd: I bought one pair of jeans from ON and a belly band from Target early on in my pregnancy. They've definitely served me well as I can still wear my black work pants with the belly band. I also have two maternity dresses my mom bought me from Target (one black I wear with a suit jacket to work) and one striped for the weekends. I have three maternity t-shirts and two tanks. Oh and a pair of maternity leggings, those are great to wear with a long sweater. Everything else is non-maternity and so far it's been working well. I'm not a huge clothes person so I don't mind wearing things over and over. My wardrobe is pretty neutral (e.g. boring) so I do a lot of mixing and matching.

    Ladies... Check out http://www.thredup.com for used maternity clothes... I have bought a lot of stuff for good prices. I also have a link for $10 off if you ladies are interested.

    I don't live near many stores so I order online or go to target. I have a wedding coming up in May so I have to get a special dress and I'm a little freaked.... don't want to look HUGE!

    Boooooo. I just realized that a couple of the crazy colors on my boobs aren't my intense veins, but stretch marks!! so sad that's starting. And now I'm off to worry and research whether they will stay forever.

  16. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

    @runnerd: they fade!! Mine don't look terrible anymore - silverish in color not an angry red/purple like they were with my first pregnancy.

    @runnerd: I agree with @HLK208: , the boob stretch marks fade really well! I had a ton on my boobs (and tummy) and the ones up there aren't really visible whereas my stomach ones are still really visible from baby #1. I hope yours fade, too!

    So...the stomach flu at 25 weeks really sucks. I haven't kept any food down today or water and am finally getting some Sprite to stay down. It's been a long day taking care of my 9 mo (who also has the flu) while trying to stay afloat myself. DH got home from work and feels off so I think we all got it. I'm scared of getting too dehydrated for the baby so if this keeps up for more than 24 hours will be calling my midwife.

    @littleredhairedgrl: I think taking an online birthing class could definitely be worth it, particularly if you don't know a lot about the ins and outs of births and typical hospital procedures. I found that stuff incredibly interesting from our Bradley classes (and helpful) but didn't find any labor pain management practice (yes, we "practiced" in class with holding ice cubes and the like -- as though that is equivalent to labor pain!) helpful in the least so I would have loved an online option! Just knowing the facts made things go a lot smoother IMO.

    persimmon / 1135 posts

    @coopsmama: I hope you're feeling better today! I think the online course will be a great option for us

    @runnerd: I've noticed the same on my bbs (which I cannot imagine getting more HUGE), but been using some good lotion and hoping they fade nicely. gosh I loved my pre-preg bbs..

    24 weeks today!! and mfm checkup on tues was good! cervix stayed stable and, while w'ere still on high alert, we return next tues for another checkup

    anyone having trouble staying on left side while sleeping? I always seem to roll to my back in the night

  20. mlm2934

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

    @coopsmama: @HLK208: so glad to hear there is a good chance they'll fade!

    @littleredhairedgrl: I'm trying to be more diligent with lotion now! And haha!! I was also pretty happy with mine pre-preg so wasn't pleased with this discovery
    Glad your appt went well!!!!

    Sleep has gotten worse for me lately. I sleep in every position through out the night.

    There are online birthing classes? Well now....

    Haven't posted a ton but have been trying to catch up on this thread. We are almost to the third trimester and I cannot believe it. 25 weeks for me and I can feel little bam bam literally bam baming his way all over the place. I can now feel an arm or a leg as he grazes over from time to time. Movements are still not consistent but when he moves I feel him! Still not used to it!

    @runnerd: Yup, sleep has been hard for me, too! I can't just roll over anymore when I want to change positions - I wake up and have to adjust everything - pillows, blankets, the dog, my DH... ! I also get a lot of leg cramps from sleeping in one position for a long time.

    @coopsmama: Oh gosh I hope you and your family feel better soon!!

    Just got back from an appt with my midwife (25 weeks!). We talked about birth classes and my desire to attempt a natural birth (but not afraid of interventions if needed). I'm planning on taking a half-day yoga and massage for labor class and my midwife thought that was a great idea. She said as long as I took that class (which has an introductory component about the birth process) and took time to talk to my midwife/OB about the birth process, that she didn't think another birth class was necessary. She did recommend "The Birth Partner" for DH to read in order to be prepared as my birth support person. Now I'm thinking about not taking the traditional all day birth class, which is kind of a relief. My midwife did highly encourage the breastfeeding class so I'm planning on taking that. Just thought someone might find this information interesting/useful!

    @runnerd just echoing what the other girls have said, but I used to have crazy bad stretch marks on my boobs just from a fast growth spurt as a teen, and they faded after about a year. Can't even see them anymore! I'm really hoping to avoid any on my stomach, those are supposed to stick around longer =(

    @littleredhairedgrl: I sleep on my right side constantly- I've am tried switching to my left but I just can't get comfortable that way. It had me worried, but my doctor said a full nights sleep is the best thing you can do, the position your in is secondary. If your most comfortable on your back, maybe try pillows to elevate your heart over your stomach to make sure bloods flowing properly?

    @runnerd: Boo to stretch marks!
    @coopsmama: Boo to the flu, hope you're feeling better!

    @NorCalWayfarer: I got The Birth Partner on my Kindle for DH to read, now just gotta get him started on it.

    I HAVE NEWS EVERYBODY! We finally found a house and it's ours pending an inspection tomorrow! seriously, it is such a relief and now all I can think of is paint colors and buying baby stuff and a dining room table and a new washer/dryer, and oh yea, where is the money coming from? haha

    The funniest part is after looking in many suburbs, we are going to be living on the same street as my parent's first house. And we're two minutes drive from my parent's current house, what are the odds!??! It was just meant to be.

    Also, feeling movement now! Lots of pulses on my bladder, which isn't ideal but I just love feeling him.

    And final update, I have an appointment with a back surgeon on Tuesday to see if i'm even a candidate for an epi or if I should really stay natural. Either is cool with me, just want to know how pushing and labor will affect my herniated disc and nerve damage.

    Oh and I've spent waaay too much maternity clothes (although my mom has bought a lot as well) but I just love them so much!

    @princessandthebee: congrats on the house! Very exciting all around!

    Have you heard that a herniated disc could affect an epidural somehow? I've been dealing with flare ups with one in my low back for a year now, the last one about 10weeks into this pregnancy. I never even considered that it might impact an epidural. Definitely worried about getting bigger and childbirth because of it. Let me know what he says. Good luck!

    @lauraeabel: My OB is worried that pushing while under an epi means I won't be able to tell her how my back/leg is doing and if a disc gets moved too much it could affect the feeling/numbness in my leg and/or other nerve issues, which might mean I could "wake up" and still not feel anything because I've pushed too hard? or pushed something out of alignment? honestly, I'm not sure, appointment is tomorrow, I'll let you know!!

    Hello All! I wanted to introduce myself, as I've recently come out of the lurker shadows. I've been a lurker for the last couple of years, visiting HB daily, but have been too shy to introduce myself. So, I decided today was the day.

    EDD: July 11th

    Child Number: 2

    Where You Live: Los Angeles

    What kind of provider will you see?: ObGyn

    What kind of birth do you want?: Unfortunately, I ended up having an emergency C-section with my son. I had hoped for a natural unmedicated birth, but LO's heart rate dropped after about 36 hours of labor, hence the C-section. I was pretty traumatized from the experience and so this time, I'm opting for a scheduled C-section.

    What You're Most Excited For: Finding out the sex (Team Green!) and seeing how my son does as a big brother.

    What You're Most Scared About: Sharing my time/love with another LO, labor/delivery.

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

    @princessandthebee: yay!

    @afpfgirl: welcome - glad you decided to join in!! were you team green for your first also or trying it out this time?

    @runnerd: Thank you! Yes, we were Team Green with my son and it was an awesome surprise. Our families hated it though!

  34. Mrs. Cookie

    @afpfgirl: welcome! Glad you're joining us!

    @lauraeabel: Had my appointment today and basically there is nothing to do! Epidurals or natural birth are both options. He said my leg will probably go numb with pushing but there's not much we can do about that. The biggest concern is if you start losing muscle tone or can't move your toes.

    I guess there's a 1 in 4 chance of re-herniating the disc or something. But less of a chance of herniated another one? He says it's basically random and the best thing to do is get fit for labor! Walk 35 minutes a day for 4-6 days a week and then 45 minutes after we're done being pregnant. And lots of milk/calcium/vitamin D.

    I'm just happy he is not putting any limitations on my labor! Although I'm still interested in going natural, it's nice to know I have options!

    What's everyone else doing regarding meds or no meds during labor?

    @afpfgirl welcome!! Excited to have another July Mama on the boards!

    @princessandthebee: great news for you, great information for me! Thanks for reporting back =)
    My plan so far is to try and be as flexible as possible during labor. I don't want to commit in my head to a birth plan, because i know that I would end up stressing out way too much if something didn't go according to said plan. Ideally I want to try and go med free, because I'm terrified of tearing and apparently not feeling the pain can make you tear more because you're pushing harder than your body is ready for. Also, I'm freaked out by the idea of a catheter and apparently that's part of the epidural process sometimes.

    All that to say I have no idea how I'll deal with the pain, so an epidural may very well happen.

  36. Mrs. Cookie

    blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts

    @lauraeabel: Glad I could help! I'm with you, I want to be flexible so I'm not devastated either way but I'm leaning towards going without an epi if possible. I'm also TOTALLY freaked out by a catheter as well. But have no issues with the long needle and am preparing myself for back pain since I have an inkling of how that may be. Of course, who knows what will happen! The catheter could end up being the easiest part!!

    I had my latest growth scan this week, so have to post LO's little mug. I'm so tired of waiting to meet him!! Our friends have 3mo old twins, and we just visited another friend last night in hospital to meet their newborn. I'm ready for our turn!! Lol.

    @princessandthebee: I had an epidural and catheter for a (non-pregnancy) surgery and let me tell you, the catheter was amazing! I never had to get up to pee! I have a tiny bladder so I loved not having to get up every 30 minutes to pee (even when not pregnant I have to pee every 30 minutes). The only uncomfy part was when they took it out

    @runnerd: What a cutie already!

    @afpfgirl: Welcome!

  39. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

    @princessandthebee: if labor is more painful than rupturing a disc, I feel like I probably will cave and get an epidural. I'm sure a catheter will be the least of my worries! Glad I'm not the only one freaked out by it.

    @runnerd he's so adorable!

    @norcalwayfarer comforting info about the catheter, thanks!

    Blaaaaahh. Sleep horrible last night, and fingers were sore when I woke up. Now wrists hurting. All internet research points to pregnancy carpal tunnel... Made it to 25 weeks before this lovely symptom appeared.
