@runnerd: most of the time when I do any internet research on a symptom, it comes up as cancer- I'm hoping you just slept on something wrong and this is a fluke!

@lauraeabel: haha!! Yea if I dig long enough, I definitely come to dying conclusion with most things. Maybe you're right

@runnerd: amazing pic!! I've been waking up with numb hands and not sleeping any different than usual. gotta love symptoms of pregnancy

@runnerd: Yep, pregnancy induced carpal tunnel! Mine is awful and I've had it for WEEKS! I have to sleep with wrist braces, otherwise I wake up every 45 minutes with achy/tingly hands/fingers and it *hurts!*. The braces are miraculous though, they really help. Hope yours isn't too bad!

Oh and we just booked our babymoon! Heading to Hawaii the day after tomorrow. We like to keep it spontaneous while we still can!

Are y'all having any swelling?? I can't really tell for sure, but I think I may have just a little bit of swelling in my hands and feet along with the pain/tingling... Isn't it early still for swelling? (Paranoid FTM)

@runnerd: jumping in here to say that I have pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, and if I don't wear my braces, it makes my hands swell a bit. I agree with @NorCalWayfarer: it blows! But the braces make it so much better

@runnerd: oh yeah, sleep has been terrible lately

  11. mlm2934

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

@LovelyPlum: thanks!! I was sorta freaking out cause I wasn't sure if it was swelling to do with carpal tunnel or something else. Hoping this doesn't get worse but guess I'll see. Didn't get better at all as the day went on.

  12. LovelyPlum

@runnerd: Serious, CT is the worst pregnancy symptom that i had no idea existed. I thought for a long time that it was the baby sitting funny on a nerve, but it's really excess fluids surrounding the nerves in your arm. Someone suggested massage to me, and that has helped. Rub your arm away towards the direction of your elbow to shunt some of the fluid away from your nerve, and see if that helps.

Really, though, I can't extoll the virtues of getting a wrist brace enough. They're ugly, and I was super embarrassed at first, but I cannot get through a day without them. Now, I can take them off for small amounts of time without being in total pain, but they make such a huge difference.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I hope that you get some relief soon.

  13. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@NorCalWayfarer: I'm glad the braces have helped you. I call CT "bonus fun"

  14. NorCalWayfarer

    nectarine / 2134 posts

@runnerd: I agree with @LovelyPlum re the CT, it blows! Mine started in the second trimester so I've gotten used to it CT is apparently caused by swelling -- the swelling causes pressure on the nerves, which causes the CT pain/tingling. Agree totally with the massage and wrist braces. You can also try some stretching (just google "carpal tunnel exercises"). But I agree with @LovelyPlum the thing that has helped the most is the braces. I only wear them at night or when driving right now. If I fall asleep without them I can only sleep for about 45 minute stretches before the pain wakes me up, so having the braces has been key! Hope you get some relief soon! Definitely one of those "oh it's a totally normal pregnancy side effect" that no one ever told me about!

@NorCalWayfarer: You're probably reading this from sunny Hawaii right now... (or not, hopefully you're on the beach far away from technology/ties to the 'real' world) but I just wanted to say ENJOY!!! That degree of spontaneity is enviable! Have a fabulous time.

Did my glucola yesterday (YUCK.) I took the day off from work because I had a feeling I'd feel pretty gross, and I was right. But then I couldn't waste a day off so I also scheduled my overdue dentist appointment and breast imaging (following up for some prior issues). Talk about being a sucker for punishment. It was not a particularly fun day! But saw the lab report this morning and it looks like glucose levels were within normal limits so no 3 hour test, thank goodness!

Sorry to hear you ladies having trouble with CT! I've been lucky in that regard so far, but my back pain is making up for it with a vengeance. Hope everyone gets some relief soon!

@NorCalWayfarer: I also have a tiny bladder and pee all.the.time! But I'm scared about getting the catheter put in and out, it just freaks me out. Glad it wasn't so bad for you! And hope you're having fun on your spontaneous baby moon!

@runnerd: OMG. I can barely fit my fave pair of boots, I feel like my feet and ankles are really swollen and my wedding rings are starting to get tight. So now I'm paranoid that I have GD or something! I hate getting my blood drawn and I'm super nervous about the results, wish I was eating healthier all this time! I try to eat fruits and veggies but I've been indulging a lot in desserts these days, ugh...

@thismustbetheplace: Yay for normal glucose levels but boo to a crappy day of appointments!

@princessandthebee: I feel ya, I'm paranoid about GD too - I have my glucose test Wednesday!

So how was everyone's weekend? I have a funny fortune to share from when we are chinese on 4/10 - so we are joking preparing for Finley to arrive on 7/10

We had a fabulous time in Hawaii, thanks! Of course I caught a nasty cold on our second to last day and am now working from home hoping it will resolve itself before it gets any worse

Going in for my glucose test next week--not looking forward to it.

@runnerd: How funny would that be if he was born on 7/10??

  22. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@runnerd: @littleredhairedgrl: I had my glucose test 2 weeks ago and it wasn't that bad. Make sure that the stuff they give you to drink is really cold. That really helps! I passed my test with flying colors and that was after a 2 week binge on jelly beans!

    persimmon / 1135 posts

    @justdarling: lol good to know!!

I refused the glucose test because I don't ever consume that much sugar/glucose in one period - so why would I want to subject my body and baby to it? My OB/midwife practice agreed that I have no risk factors for GD aside from a large birth weight baby last go around and just asked if I wouldn't mind having my blood drawn to check the levels -- evidently they will average them with the other blood draws I've had -- without drinking the glucose drink. Of course I didn't mind. So just FYI that may be an option for some of you, provided you're low risk.

    @runnerd: that's hilarious!!

28 weeks and 2 days here -- and the pregnancy continues to creeeep along! I'm feeling really good though! I think sleep was worse with my last pregnancy at this point so I'm just enjoying good rest while I'm able to get it.

@runnerd: OH my gosh, funny, I'm gonna be thinking about you guys on 7/10!!

@coopsmama: Didn't know that was an option for skipping the glucose test! unfortunately, I eat sugary things pretty frequently. I'm not terrible but I got worse during pregnancy. I'm definitely nervous!

How did those tests go for you who had them done? How long does it take to find out results?

  27. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@princessandthebee: I had to do the one hour at 12 weeks (since I had GD with my first pregnancy). It's not terrible. The 3 hour is bad just because fasting + 3 hours of having blood drawn feels icky. I have to do the 3 hour test on Friday (bleh)

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

    @NorCalWayfarer: so exciting!!!

When do y'all guys count the 3rd tri as starting?

@princessandthebee: I had the 1hr test today, and it wasn't bad, except a little nausea from empty stomach + sugar + waiting to eat. I forgot to ask when my results would be available!

@runnerd: It's like when the 2nd tri started (12 wks? 13?)- some said 27 wks, some said 28wks. My sprout app says 28 so I'll stick to that Had my 28 appt yesterday - the 1 hr glucose test and I didn't think it was that bad either. The lab tech said results usually come in within a couple of days so hopefully the same goes for you.
What DID suck was having to get the rhogam shot. Ugh - I didn't know it would be in the hip and really thick (and a lot of it!) so it hurt when it went in. Was not prepared!
I've also been having a lot of pelvic pressure the last couple of days so my doctor checked to make sure my cervix was closed - not dilating so that's good! She said now I have a baseline to go off of and if the pressure gets more intense and I also have contractions then I need to go in. She said the baby's head is down and pushing on my bladder and other goodies down there which explains it.

We are in the homestretch ladies! Time has both stood still and flown by for me and I cannot believe that there's less than 12 weeks to go. I hope everyone has a good weekend

@runnerd: I had my test Wednesday morning, and they said results take 24 hours. Still haven't heard from them. Not sure if I should take that as good news? I have a ton of diabetes in my moms side of the family so I'm kind of expecting the worst.

I'm just chilling at my glucose tolerance test ... our new lab here is terrible so I'm not expecting to get results for at least a week or more. I'll just be impressed if they get me the results before we have this baby

  33. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

I had my glucose test on a Friday and got my results the following Wednesday at my Dr. appt. The nurse said that if I didn't pass the test she would have called me right away.

I can't believe we are in (or about to be in) the 3rd trimester!!! I got my paperwork for registering at the hospital and my Dr. has starting discussing the birth now....this is just all crazy!!!

  34. Mrs. Cookie

    blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts

@HLK208: Boo to having to do the 3 hour one! I hope time goes fast for you!

@runnerd: Yea, nausea is no fun I bet. I was told I did not have to fast. So I'll probably have a small bowl of the least sugary cereal in the house.

Did I mention this here already? Sorry if I'm repeating myself, I was tested once for GD a few years back when I was NOT pregnant. I was getting a cholesterol test done and they made me drink the orange drink and wait an hour, etc. I had no idea until they realized AFTERWARDS that I wasn't pregnant and should not have had to do that test! So annoying!

My test is the day before we leave for a weekend trip to Chicago!

So I've signed up for classes now as well! We are doing a newborns 101, breastfeeding, and a six week natural birth course. As well as the hospital tour. We have bought our furniture (online) for the nursery and I've ordered a few decor pieces for it as well. Can't wait until we close on the house on May 8th!!!

  35. Mrs. Cookie

@justdarling: Right, talking about the birth with the dr makes it feel so real!!

Finally got results from my 24hr urine screen and glucose test - no GD or pre-e so far, yay!

@littleredhairedgrl: I've been thinking about you!!! How is bedrest going? Are you getting to a point where the docs are gonna start monitoring more closely since viability is so good?

  37. mlm2934

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

@princessandthebee: that is so funny about your GD test when not pregnant! Hope they didn't try to charge you!!

DH and I were discussing hospital logistics last night and I felt like it's getting real/close for the first time!

  38. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@princessandthebee: that's definitely funny, but I feel bad you had to go through that nasty drink for nothing!

@runnerd: I had my screening a week ago, and I finally had to call Monday to find out that I passed. Apparently they only call if news is bad, so I'd been worried over nothing. Yay for no GD though!! We just picked our pediatrician last night, and I'm going to my first breastfeeding class tomorrow- it's definitely making things seem real!

  39. littleredhairedgrl

    persimmon / 1135 posts

@runnerd: thanks! I'm doing alright.. getting a little more restless now, but so excited to be 28 weeks tomorrow! Third trimester!!

I'm still going for weekly ultrasounds to check cervical length and now going to my OB for bi-weekly ffn tests to see if I'll need an early dose of steroids at any point, but last week's ffn came back negative so ok for now

  40. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

The NP at my OB's office called to say what my numbers for my 3 hr glucose were and all were normal (20-30 points below the max of the normal range) but one of them (the last) was 140 and the normal range had to be greater than 140. So they are saying I have it? Ugh.
