@NorCalWayfarer: wow! A membrane sweep without even telling you? I would not appreciate that!

I had an interesting appointment today! At first they thought the baby had flipped breech so they brought in the portable ultrasound machine to check and it wouldn't work (so bizarre) so I gave them the okay for a cervical check because she knew she'd be able to tell from there whether she was head down.
Baby is head down still, thank goodness! As I thought, not much progress on the cervix front - 1cm, 60% effaced, and a posterior cervix. Gah! It's looking veeeeery unlikely baby will be here while in laws are out of the country which I'm bummed about to say the least. The baby's head is extremely low though, I guess - she said if I wanted to reach up and feel it I could. Evidently her head is lower than the cervix even which is so strange to me.
But she's healthy - can't ask for anything more!
@runnerd: So glad to hear your news!

@runnerd: Good to hear!
@coopsmama: Glad she's head down! And that's good that she's low -- hopefully she'll make her appearance soon

@coopsmama: the thing about the ultrasound is really bizarre- glad she was still head down!
Funny story that's kind of related to your inlaws- so you may or may not know from previous threads my parents and I have a ton of really complicated issues. We finally started talking a few weeks ago after about five months of not, and when my mom came to visit me this week she informed me her and my dad are going to pennsylvania.... Ten hours away... On July 9th. For a few days. I realize I probably won't go early (although I really want to) but does it strike anyone else as odd they'd leave on vacation a week week their first grandchild is due? They planned this like a month ago, so they knew when I was due.
(Also is it terrible I kind of hope I go into labor while they're there?)

Thanks for all the positive vibes guys!
@coopsmama: glad you escaped the breech scare! progress is progress! maybe things will start moving quicker than you think

@coopsmama: low is good! Don't let the dilation get you down because it can progress fast - especially with a second delivery!! So exciting! Oh and I'm so glad baby is head down!

@lauraeabel: Parents do weird things... but glad you're relationship seems to be improving with them.
Pretty sure I just lost my mucus plug -- probably related to the membrane sweep on Wednesday. Would be great if labor was imminent, but I'm not expecting it any time soon.
On another note, today is my last day of work! Woohoo! Oh and got the carseat installed and checked. Starting to get real!

@NorCalWayfarer: @lauraeabel: @HLK208: Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not getting too disappointed about the cervix thing because, as I said, I hadn't been having too many painful contractions so I'm not surprised but I still have been hoping all pregnancy for the IL's to be gone so I could have a few days of minimal drama and quietness.
(Seriously, last time I gave birth they came into my hospital room and I was a disgusting mess and didn't want to see anyone and then they came to my house the next day and took a million pictures of themselves posing with DS while letting their young kids (long story - the kids were then 4, 6 and 8) run all over our house. They then basically forced their 15 year old to stay with me one day and she followed me all over the house and criticized everything I was doing with my one week old. My blood pressure was definitely up anytime I was around them as a new parent for several weeks - I just don't want them around this time. That sounds horrible. )
But at least I'm comfortably pregnant still so if I have a few weeks left in me I can do it. Also, my baby shower isn't until July 2nd so it looks like (even though it had to be pushed back!) I will still be able to make it for that celebration!
@lauraeabel: It is funny but maybe they just assumed you'd not care either way (and you don't ) since you're rebuilding your relationship with them? Glad things are on the up and up with them! And no, I don't think it's horrible you hope you go into labor while they are gone...Obviously! We're in the same boat sister!
@NorCalWayfarer: Hooray for maternity leave and for losing your mucous plug! I lost mine in labor last time and it was huge - way bigger than I was expecting. I was in natural labor la la land so I wasn't thinking straight and I definitely picked it up (was grossed out by it) and tossed it across the room. I had been laboring on my hands and knees when it came out. Fortunately, my birth team was gracious and didn't say anything about it. After labor I felt bad about how silly I was for doing that! Hehe. Memories.

@coopsmama: oh my gosh, I would NOOOOT get along with your in-laws, mine bug me and they are way more respectful!
And I'm definitely lol'ing at your mucus plug memory!!

@runnerd: Yeah, having children really destroyed my relationship with IL's! It's a bummer but it is what it is. I think it's been hard for them to watch us parent differently then they do. We used to get along great but these days see each other infrequently, maybe every other week or so. I have tried to extend a hand of friendship to them and have said MIL and her kids are welcome over any time (with advance notice) to see DS since they complain about not getting to see him enough but I was told that "we don't feel welcomed into your home." Which is total BS, and DH has told them so. It's hard to work and change things with people who are completely unreasonable in every way imaginable!
Okay. I'll stop whining about them. Thanks for listening, ladies.
kiwi / 714 posts
@coopsmama: feel free to whine, that's what we're here for at least your DH is on your side and calls them our on their behavior. I'd agree with your theory about mine if I wasn't subjected to harrassing email after harrassing email from both of them about how horrible I was being to leave them out of such a huge money in THEIR lives (even though my mother is the one who decided she no longer wanted to speak to me, and I just held her to it). They finally succeeded in making me feel guilty enough to try again... And then plan a vacation a week before I'm due.
Annnnnd sorry, I'm done ranting.
That's a really funny story about tossing your mucus plug. I'm sure the birth team has seen it all which is why they didn't give you a hard time. =)
@norcalwayfarer jealous you start your leave already! I'm trying to work up until I go into labor. Exciting progress re: the mucus plug!

@NorCalWayfarer: Not cool about the membrane sweep without notice but yay for mucous plug, hope that means baby is coming soon!
@runnerd: yay for baby boy's weight increase!! Hoping for 6 lbs by induction!!
@coopsmama: Your in-laws sound like drama. Which you don't need! And yes lol'ing to that plug story too.
@lauraeabel: Good luck with your parents visiting, I say go in with low expectations and hopefully they surpass them.

Question, is anyone else measuring larger than their current week? I've also been consistently about 2 inches bigger than my week. So now I'm almost 38 inches even though I'm 36 weeks. Does this mean I'm going to have a huge baby?? Hoping not! Is this kind of normal?
pineapple / 12234 posts
@princessandthebee: I have! At 31 weeks, I was measuring 35 but then slowed to be 2 weeks ahead, and then right on target and again a week ahead. I think it just depends on the baby's positioning. The doctors at my office won't worth unless I'm measuring 3+ weeks ahead, in which case they order an ultrasound. When I had my u/s at 31 weeks, baby was in the 75th percentile though.
pomegranate / 3225 posts
@NorCalWayfarer: That is definitely not cool. I requested two membrane sweeps with DD as she was 9 days late. I ended up with a terrible uterine infection which was almost certainly caused by a membrane sweep. So they do have risks and he should have never done that without asking!!!

Is everyone/anyone else having trouble sleeping? Obviously I have to pee in the MOTN but I am waking super early every morning too! I hate it, now is the time we all need sleep the most!
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
@HLK208: Ok good to know! My OB doesn't seem too concerned although she does say, "Oh you're measuring big, what were you last time?" Because she must not remember that I ALWAYS measure big.
@kml636: Yes, I've had terrible sleep. The whole 9 months! Not fair but I should be prepared to survive on minimal sleep once baby arrives!
kiwi / 714 posts
@kml636: I'm getting very little sleep also, but I think of it as prep for the newborn stage. Still totally stinks.
Anybody else suffering from serious nausea again? The past few days I've felt like I was going to vomit pretty much all day but never do. Not sure if it's pregnancy, the humidity, or both.
kiwi / 545 posts
@kml636: yup. I can't sleep at all during the week, it hurts to shift positions and after getting up to use the bathroom it's impossible to fall asleep.
@lauraeabel: I've had nausea from time to time within the past couple of weeks. I gag when I brush my teeth which is what I experienced in my first trimester. Sucks.
10 days till due date but I'm only at 1 cm, I'm at the point where I don't think this will ever end.The days are just creeping by.

@kml636: toss and turn city here! and every time I get up to pee my whole body feels beaten and bruised!!

I think these are the outfits I am going to take to the hospital with me. The center one is preemie just in case since my first was under 5lbs when she left the hospital even though she was full term.
I'm slacking on packing my hospital bag. I know there's a chance of being induced early again, but I just don't feel ready yet!

@lauraeabel - I am very nauseous this morning, even dry-heaved a few times. And I threw up a little on Saturday. I think it's pretty normal: hormones combined with the fact that our intestines and stomachs are all smushed and out of place.
I'm going to the doctor in less than an hour so I'm going to ask to be sure, though.

@LemonLong: all sweet little outfits!

Welp, baby hasn't flipped, so my OB went and scheduled me for a c-section for July 22nd, six days before my "official" due date. I can't believe baby will be here in just three weeks from tomorrow!

@runnerd: nope, decided to hold off until today....
Water broke at 5:30am.. No dilation yet (boooo) so my dreams of an intervention-free labor is out the window. First dose of cytotec is on board and we're just hanging out. I can't believe this is it!!!!

@thismustbetheplace: ahhhh so exciting!!! hope it goes smoothly despite the interventions! Keep us posted and good luck!!

@kml636: I was having trouble sleeping but am doing a lot better lately! I'm not sure why but I'm grateful! I think I only got out of bed last night to pee 1 or 2x which is some sort of miracle! I hope your sleep improves over the last couple weeks of pregnancy!
@lauraeabel: The nausea has definitely been back for me - along with constant hunger. Gah! I was doing so well on the weight gain front (only 25lbs) but in the last two weeks am now at 30. I know it has to do with the nausea/hunger cycle. That and I'm craving every dessert under the sun as of late!
@LemonLong: Those outfits are so sweet! A nice selection for your LO. I really hope you avoid an induction this go around!
@runnerd: No baby! Looks like DD will in fact be a July baby! 39+1 today and so very ready. I feel like I've been pregnant forever.
@night cheese: July 22nd is a great birth date! It must be nice to have it on the calendar and know when it will be happening as opposed to having to wait and find out. Baby will be here before you know it!
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@thismustbetheplace: Ugh!! Annoying about no dilation BUT hooray for baby arriving today/tomorrow! I hope all goes smoothly and that the induction works its magic and that you're holding your little one ASAP!
pineapple / 12234 posts
@thismustbetheplace: oh my gosh!!! Good luck!!!
@kml636: between peeing all night, drinking water, eating tums, turning on/off the fan and positioning my leg pillows, I'm sleeping like 4 hours a night haha.
@LemonLong: where is that sleeper with the red bows from?! So adorable!!

Contractions were pretty rough and consistent yesterday afternoon but went away by 8pm. Ugh. Oh well, I still have a lot to get done so I wouldn't mind if she held off a week, even two!
Probably having an internal exam this morning though so I'm curious to know if these contractions are doing anything at all.
blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts
@thismustbetheplace: YAY!! I'm so excited for you! Sorry about the interventions but can't wait to hear more updates, you get to meet your LO so soon!!
@HLK208: Yes, keep us posted, sounds like you are having lots of contractions lately, hopefully they are doing something!
kiwi / 714 posts
@lemonlong very cute outfits!
@nightcheese I'm sorry baby's not flipped, but I'm a little envious you have a definitive expiration date for your pregnancy- the waiting is already driving me crazy!
@thismustbetheplace super excited for more updates, good luck!!
@hlk208 curious how your appointment goes also.
Things seem to really happening for a lot of us, super exciting all around!

So, I saw a different doctor today and she said she would leave the internal exam to my regular doctor despite my contractions (my regular doctor wanted to check me two weeks ago!)
But, it took her 2 minutes (my eyes were on the clock) to find the heart beat. 2 minutes. I was freaking out...ugh.
