@coopsmama: every time you update I just hope for some labor news! I'm gonna be so excited for you when that happens!!

Also, who told you she's posterior? A OB/midwife or can you just tell based on back pain, etc?

@coopsmama: that's bad news for me too then. She was still face up at our ultrasound last week. Hoping that the next one on Wednesday she will have turned around the right way!

@princessandthebee: Thanks! One of these days we'll all have happy news to report! Several of the CNMs have commented that she is posterior along with my pregnancy chiropractor. I will say it's definitely a different feeling than with my first pregnancy - lots more lower back pain and tailbone popping/swelling over the last month or two. Have you been on spinning babies? They show how to "map" your belly so you can figure out where LO is hanging out. I've tried using their tips to turn her but she is stubborn!

@lauraeabel: Yikes! Well from some googling some people say the posterior issue isn't a big deal at all and some people say it's horrible so hopefully if they don't turn we'll be on the good end of the spectrum! I posted a thread on here a few weeks back asking about posterior labor and got some great responses.

@coopsmama: one of my BILs was posterior, and so my mil is convinced my back problems are the beginnings of back labor. I've heard some horror stories, so I'm trying to prepare myself for the worst.
I have similar issues with my tailbone, sorry to hear you can relate to that =(

@coopsmama: Wow, I just browsed through the belly mapping part of spinning babies, it seems so complicated! although I'm sure it's not, it appears to take some time. I did have an ultrasound last week for my bpp, I wonder if they noted what position baby was in... I'll have to ask at my appointment!

in our birthing class we were told to sit in the "guy pose" (leaning forward, arms resting on knees) as much as possible to help keep baby anterior or help baby switch to anterior.

My teacher also had a doula give her an amazing tip that helped deliver her second baby. During labor she had her stand with legs apart, open one leg/hip at a time so the foot is facing out (not forward), and then do lunges. Baby turned and was born 7 minutes later.

@lauraeabel: Seriously hoping your back pain is not a sign of back labor!! Fingers crossed!!

No luck here! Contractions got as close as 4 minutes apart after I posted last night so I took a shower and they spread apart again. 10 minutes, 15 and then completely stopped. I have an appt this morning so maybe I'll be checked??? Haha. I've been saying that for weeks!

@runnerd: in labor now! My BP was high at my last appointment so they induced me this morning. The concern with high BP is that I could have seizures so they put me on magnesium which is no fun! Rather have that than seizures tho!

@lauraeabel: Honestly, I had back labor with DS and he wasn't posterior! I didn't feel any pain in my back with him. It was very odd, but the OB said some people are just more prone to it! All of the real contractions I've felt so far (not that many!) this time have been in my back too, with of course the tight belly.

@princessandthebee: I knew about that first pose but not about the second. I'm adding that to my mental labor "tool-kit." Thanks for the info. I'm sure it they didn't say anything you're good to go!

@HLK208: What?! So disappointing. False labor really, truly sucks. At least your body is doing something but STILL. And it's keeping us all on edge over here, too! I'm sorry you're having to go through it. Hopefully it's the real deal soon. I can't wait to hear how your appointment goes!

@mellybelly: I hope your induction goes smoothly! Exciting stuff. Can't wait to hear the good news.

    @mellybelly: ah! Good luck!!!

Well, the doctor I saw today (my OB is still on vacation) said no cervical check until 39 weeks, when they'll also do the membrane sweep. I go in next week at 38 weeks, 6 days so I bet I'll never have a cervical check!

  20. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@HLK208: that's crazy. I mean I know every doctors different, but if you're wanting a check this far along they should accommodate that. My OB requires them after 37.
If makes you feel any better, it really is pretty painful and the numbers don't mean much based on labor stories.

ETA i just remembered this isn't your first baby, so you probably already know they're uncomfortable and all that =)

  21. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@lauraeabel: it's so odd - my old OB did cervical checks starting at 36 weeks and every week until I delivered! They truly are uncomfortable though and (tmi) I hate walking around afterward with the gunk they use, so gross.

  22. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@HLK208: i can't remember them using anything at mine, hmmm. The spotting afterward freaked me out though even after them warning me.

I have a question- i go in for weekly BPPs due to some issues. At the first one I asked if they could estimate a weight, and they said that wasn't in the doctors request so they wouldn't be able to. I'm thinking of asking if there's any way that while they're looking at the baby if they could just glance at my cervix through the ultrasound to see what it's looking like. Think there's any chance they'll go for it? I'm mostly just curious, and can't see why if they're already poking around they couldn't just glance at that area. I'm hoping maybe her head will be right up against it anyway.

  23. LemonLong

    pear / 1698 posts

@lauraeabel: you can ask! Not sure if they will be able to though, when baby gets lower I think it's pretty hard to get the ultrasound down that far to see. I'm getting growth ultrasounds and I know getting the head measurements is a lot harder as the baby gets lower down.

  24. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@HLK208: Ah! Disappointed you didn't have a check but only cause we're all curious!

  25. Mrs. Cookie

    blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts

@lauraeabel: I asked during my bpp what they estimated his weight at and I'm not happy I did! they said it can be off by 19 ounces, which is a lot! And when they told me he might be 7 lbs 15 oz already I freaked out a bit... what is he gonna be by the time I deliver!?!? EEEK

@HLK208: Bummer I was curious too! Your old OB sounds like my new one, although I started at 35 weeks because of camping.

Also, my OB must be extra gentle because I've had three cervical checks so far and they were all more uncomfortable than painful I'd say. But they must get worse as you dilate!

  26. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@princessandthebee: when I asked she said "we aren't measuring the parts of the baby that would give us an estimated weight, next time if you want to know have the doctor request it" I thought it was odd, becauseeee I'm not asking for an exact figure here man.

Well I have to say -- the nice thing about being in the last few days and weeks of pregnancy is the fact that it is motivation to keep the house spotless and things organized. Even DH has been busy with nesting. Now it only we could be this on top of things ALL the time!

Just trying to think of the positives of being overdue! Hehe.

  28. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

@lauraeabel: hmm, I'm not sure! But asking wouldn't hurt!

@coopsmama: no kidding! All of the laundry is done, everything has been dusted and sanitized, I've been decorating and trying to make sense of our house.

Even DH is man nesting lol. He power washed absolutely everything tonight and installed a new bathroom sink today. Over the weekend, he cleaned the bathrooms and put together some furniture. It's so nice to have everything look in order for once!

  29. Mrs. Cookie

    blogger / persimmon / 1225 posts

@lauraeabel: That is weird, can you ask your OB to request it at your next appointment?

@coopsmama: @HLK208: Yes, nesting over here too! As a FTM I must think the world is going to implode when I bring baby home from the hospital because I just stocked up on lots of food (want to make some freezer meals) and TP, kleenex, all that stuff because how will I get to the store once I have a baby?!?!? Also I panicked about putting the finishing touches on the nursery and packing the hospital bags. Feeling more and more ready though!

We are also a one car family living in a suburb (one car works way better when you are in Chicago and sans house/baby) and I hate the feeling of not being able to get places. Luckily my mom lives nearby and has been really helpful. I will be able to walk more once my swelling goes down after birth, right now my ankles and feet ache constantly. ugh

How is everybody feeling this morning? Any updates?

  30. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@princessandthebee: Ugh the feet swelling - YES! I've been able to hold it off all pregnancy with herbs, and mine isn't too bad, but I hate the feeling of even a little bit. It's been so hot here and already at 7:30am I can feel my feet starting to swell! I guess I will be drinking lots of water and coconut water today!

All your prep, especially on the meal front, will totally pay off. I only made 10 dinners this time around but wishing I was still making them. It's nice not having to cook or worry about shopping with a newborn!

No updates here. 40+2. I'm going to my chiropractor this morning which I can't wait for because my hips have been killing me lately when I sleep and after a visit to him they don't hurt for several days. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go to this appt when I booked it a week and a half ago but ah well.

I think I got all my baby nesting out of the way too early, so I'm twiddling my thumbs on that front. The house on the other hand, needs a lot of work!!! But I am literally sore from head to toe for absolutely no reason so I've barely had the energy to do the dishes the week. DH and I are gonna make a massive to do list for the rest of this week

@coopsmama: I wish I was in as good spirits as you! I am way crankier and not as pregnant haha

  32. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@runnerd: I feel like it's easier to go overdue the second time around (if you went late with a 1st) because in your heart of hearts that's kinda what you were already expecting. Plus, it sounds like you're a lot more sore and miserable than I am which is no fun!

  33. cookiemomster

    kiwi / 714 posts

@princessandthebee: totally have the same panicked feeling about making sure we are stocked up on things because post baby there's obviously no way I will be able to grocery shop. Sorry about your swelling, I've been pretty lucky and only experienced it a few times, but it was lousy each time.

Most of my nesting is pretty much done- the nursery is done, except for the name we ordered for over her crib a month ago that still hasn't come =( - laundry is done, tons and tons of freezer meals made, and the house is relatively clean. I'm trying to do more deep cleaning but I can't seem to work up the energy. My back is so sore, and I'm just generally getting more cranky, which makes me feel really bad for my husband =(

@coopsmama did you ever try those cookies? I have all the ingredients so I'm considering making some today.

@lauraeabel: Sounds like you have a lot done though! Yea, my swelling it out of control but there a lot worse pregnancy symptoms out there so I'm trying to keep perspective.

I'm also crabbier and easily annoyed these days, I don't know how anyone could not be!

I feel like someone going into labor will put things in motion for the rest of us. Purely speculative and not scientific. And probably won't happen haha. But everything happens in threes and I know we're all so ready to meet our LO's!!

    I'm rooting for you @coopsmama: !

I'm still 2.5 weeks away and I'm really sick of family/friends telling me I'm gonna go late. My BFF is joking about August and honestly it's making me annoyed. She's being funny but I don't see the humor in it!

  36. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

So what are you guys doing to stay busy other than nesting?

I'm sitting in front of a fan most days and eating ice cubes. Need.air.conditioning. I can only go to Target and Carter's so many times a week haha...and I don't really feel like going out alone with the LO's anymore. We seriously don't need anything for the baby now.

Maybe I'll get a hair cut this week.

@HLK208: ugh well I'm still working, but I can barely focus and most of my work is wrapped up. plus I WAH so I really shouldn't be complaining. I have 2 doctor appts Thurs. Other than that a lot of napping and complaining

Just hanging out over here! I'm glad Tour de France and World Cup are on right now 40 weeks tomorrow, have an appt this afternoon. At the last appt midwife said baby was sunnyside up and gave us a few exercises to try to get him to turn. She thinks that his position may be what's holding labor up (last week I was 2cm and 80% effaced, but he was still high). OB is out of town this week, but that's okay because I really like our midwife at the practice.

Need to check with the midwife that it's okay if I go to my mom's for the day tomorrow (about an hour away -- DH will drive since he has meetings out there for work) and into the City on Thursday -- I'm going a bit stir crazy out here in the suburbs. Been making some freezer meals. Just made some cookies for the doctor's office.
