@msmilkshake: I'm so sorry that your mom is going through this, and of course the pregnancy hormones make everything harder. Totally understandable that you'd rather be with your family for the holiday.
@Winnie13: Sorry that you're not feeling well, but so reassuring to hear those heartbeats!
@bookwormmama: Yay for coffee and for telling your family! Enjoy your trip.

@winniebee: Have a great holiday! I'll be thinking of you for that ultrasound on Monday
@MrsStar: I hope this is the beginning of feeling much better for you. Congrats on 12 weeks!
@rattles: I have always felt so awkward making pregnancy announcements! I'm not sure why but other than very close family I sort of hate that moment of telling people. With #2 and #3 especially, I have this totally unfounded fear that people are thinking "she can hardly handle the kid(s) she already has!"...

@MrsStar: glad to hear you had a good scan! I had an ultrasound at 9+2 today and could very clearly see the baby wiggling his/her arms. It looked like he/she was waving at us!
My update: my appt went really well today; measuring right on track with a HB of 189bpm and the cute little "waving!" NT scan is scheduled for 12/13. I'm still feeling all-day nausea like a bad hangover, but no vomiting so I'll take it!
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving

@jape14 great update!
I've gained a noticeable amount of weight even though it's not an actual bump so I'm having such a hard time finding cute comfortable clothes to wear for thanksgiving. We'll be going to a party of good family friends we're not telling yet and my family always dresses up for thanksgiving. Ugh I'm just ready to be "out" and have a real bump. This in between stage is so hard! Anyone else there?

@jape14: congrats on a great scan!
@Mrs. Pajamas: I hate that in between stage! It's so hard to dress comfortably! I guess because it's my third, I had a bump pretty much immediately this go around. A coworker of DH asked when I was due (not having been told we were expecting) when I was at a gala 7 weeks pregnant! I don't think there will be much "announcing" tomorrow as much as just showing up obviously pregnant.

I'm also having issues with keeping the pregnancy under the radar. I'm about 95% sure my SIL is pregnant and I'm hoping not to steal any of her thunder (she has also had previous losses so I'd like to be sensitive). So I'm not sure if I should announce or not. I have my NT on Monday so at the very least I'll text everyone after that. I'm just not sure I can hide this pregnancy because I have (what to me is) a very obvious bump. And before I got pregnant I got my whole family on this weight loss bandwagon and everyone was losing tons of weight. I think as a family we're down 100lbs and it'll be very obvious if I'm eating tons of thanksgiving foods and soda. Sorry for the rambling. I'm so tired but have terrible pregnancy insomnia!

Hey everyone!! Hope everyone is doing well. I'm 11 weeks 2 days along and finally starting to feel human again.. up until now I have been an absolute zombie! This is baby #3 for us. We also have a 4 yr old boy & 2.5 year old boy. I'm sharing today's ultrasound photo, anyone want to take a guess at the gender??? The suspense is killing me - so much pressure for this (last) baby to be a girl. I'd obviously be happy with either, and I am totally obsessed with my little boys, but can't help but secretly wonder if this one might be a girl

@misskriss19 what a great scan!!
Thanks to everyone who said nice things about my mom, the news is not great, there is definitely cancer, now we go into the phase of many tests to figure out if it is isolated, how advanced it is, etc. My dad says the family motto for this is "one play at a time" so I'm trying to live by that.
I was thankful to finally feel a little better yesterday nausea wise and so be able to really enjoy my in-laws amazing food. I am also thankful for this community.

@MissKriss19: Such a great ultrasound picture! My last us was at 8 weeks and it, of course, didn't look like a baby yet. This pic is getting my excited for my NT scan next week Congrats on #3

Hi everyone. I haven't been on the boards much. My improvement in nausea was only temporary. It got a lot worse this last week and included lots more throwing up. I lost 3 pounds this week and am getting pretty close to a diagnosis of hyperemesis gravidarum if we don't get it under control. We added another medication, and it seems to be helping. This med comes with the major downside of almost knocking me out, though, which makes caring for my daughter quite difficult. I haven't worked (normally do part-time) in over a month, yet I still have to pay our nanny to come and help watch my daughter while I run back and forth from the couch to the bathroom. So it's just hard times all around.
We did get the panorama results, and baby was low-risk for everything.

@msmilkshake: I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm hoping and praying for the best for your mom!
@Mrs. Pajamas: Totally the same for me! I've gained about 10lbs already and nothing fits. I just bought some jeans from MM, but I'm too small to wear. I may use the Bellyband and start rocking the maternity clothes!! When in Rome!

@ms milkshake hugs to you as you go through this scary process with your mom. My mom had breast cancer when I was in high school and it was scary but she's so healthy and strong now!
@iced tea oh no so sorry you are so sick! I hope the new meds work soon.

@Rae: welcome and congrats!
Also I hope everyone is doing well after the holiday weekend. We ended up accidentally announcing on one side of the family and not on the other! I'm glad to be home. Although I seem to have come down with a mild sinus infection (here's hoping it says small)!

@Iced Tea: I'm so sorry that you've been so sick That has to be incredibly difficult because you have an older child as well. I hope that your new medication helps and that the side effects subside!

@Rae Welcome!
My NT scan is next Wednesday, they already took my blood so I'm looking forward to it/nervous.

@msmilkshake: Hugs! I'm sorry to hear the news wasn't what you hoped.
We had our NT scan today! Baby looked great, moving around a ton. The neck measurements were great, so now I just need to wait on the blood work for official numbers. We think the baby was sucking it's thumb at one point. Our DS is a major thumb sucker, so it would be funny to have another! The tech looked to see if she could tell the sex. She used the nub technique and she thought it definitely looked like a girl. The nub was completely straight, so if that theory is correct I would agree with her thoughts. We will see in 7 weeks!

Had another good scan today (9 wks). Going for my NIPT draw next Friday. So nervous!!

I had my NT today as well! It was a good scan and we had good news. I already have the analysis for the bloood and ultrasound as well (through their online portal). So that all looks good for the most part. It was also the first time my husband got to see the baby, so that's exciting!
It's getting more real to me. I think because my morning sickness had been so bad I've been in a fog and just not able to enjoy this pregnancy. Now that I've announced and am showing I'm hoping my mood picks up and my ms goes down! Here's to hoping! I vomited through 22 weeks with my first so I'm not too optimistic.

Congrats on good test results, ladies! So good to hear.
I have good news also. It appears the new medication combo did the trick. I haven't even thrown up in two days and feel significantly better. Exhausted, but not miserable. We had a weekend trip to Atlanta planned and were about to cancel, but I think we will be able to go after all!
I also totally popped. No hiding the belly now at 13.5 weeks.

@Bookwormmama Thank you. And yay for a great scan and a mobile baby!
@winniebee and @newlypregnantlady Hooray for good scans!
@IcedTea I am SO glad to hear you are feeling better. I think I'm finally starting to get there too.

I had my 12 week appointment with an OB today. The university hospital I am going to call it a "new OB" appointment. I was pretty disappointed with it. It was basically a regular gynecology appointment. The only difference was she calculated my chances for a VBAC (60%, which she said was good?) and then did a pap smear, etc. She didn't even listen to the baby's heartbeat, which I thought was a little strange. Then she told me they wouldn't see me again until my anatomy scan which is 7 weeks away! I was seen every month with my first pregnancy until 32 weeks. Am I expecting too much by thinking I should be seen every month? I am thinking about calling the system we use for our regular care/my son's care and looking for an OB through them. Has anyone switched OBs during pregnancy? Any advice? I am thinking switching would be best because I just feel like I haven't been getting the care I want. I also dislike that the OBs only have appointments in the afternoons and I'm not really interested in seeing a midwife. Mornings would work much better for our schedule!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@bookwormmama: I switched OB care in the middle of my pregnancy with DS2 because we moved. It was totally fine. I want to say that each of my OB has been different (I've had 3 now because of moves) but I recall my first had visits at 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, 30 and then I think Bi weekly, then weekly. im not totally sure of my current OB standard protocol because I get the royal treatment due to my history. I believe she does dating scan around 8 wks then new OB at 12 weeks and then it's monthly until 3rd Tri. So I do think it's a little strange that you won't be seen for 7 weeks - though maybe they do anatomy scan on the early side at 18 weeks?
pear / 1586 posts
@bookwormmama: that seems weird to me! My office also does the "new OB visit" -- usually around 9/10 weeks -- but it's coupled with an ultrasound. After that, they go to visits every 4 weeks, though the first visit is a little sooner than that if you want the NT scan. So my appt schedule is: 7 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks, then every 4 weeks until the 3rd tri. I don't blame you for looking into a different OB - I would totally do the same thing!
@Iced Tea: glad you are feeling better!
@newlypregnantlady: @winniebee: yay for good scans!
persimmon / 1198 posts
@winniebee: They did offer to schedule the anatomy scan between 18-20 weeks. We decided to go with 19 weeks because we want to know the sex and want to be as sure as possible, so we figured waiting an extra week would be good for that. So she was thinking it would be 6 weeks, but that still seems really long to me...it seems like once a month in the first two trimesters is pretty standard. Also, I need to get a blood draw between 15-16 weeks for the rest of the genetic testing, and she made no mention of that, which is strange if they won't see me again until after 18 weeks. Thanks for the insight on switching!
@jape14: Yes, it seems like once a month is pretty standard. I did have an ultrasound yesterday, so I can understand not doing a bedside/another one, but it would have been nice to hear the heartbeat since the doppler was in the room and would have taken an extra minute! I think I am also unhappy with more than just the appointment frequency...I haven't been very happy with my appointments (although I have really like the ultrasound techs). I was forced to see a midwife at 8 weeks because the OBs don't see people at 8 weeks, and I felt like both times I've seen OBs (I saw one for my annual appointment in March) I've been rushed out of my appointments and they don't always follow through on things we've talked about. It is surprising to me that I feel like the care is sub-par here. I loved my care at the last university hospital system I was at! Luckily my clinic system partners with the university, so I can still deliver at the university hospital and possibly (hopefully!) do my ultrasounds there.

@bookwormmama: I've switched before during pregnancy. I think you should; you need to be comfortable with the people providing your care. Good communication is an important part of that, and it sounds like it was lacking.

@winniebee: I'm so glad your scan went well! Wonderful news and very reassuring, I'm sure

@bookwormmama: Sounds like a great ultrasound! Sorry that your appointment was disappointing though. I think I've been seen every 4 weeks at this point usually. It couldn't hurt to look into switching if you don't feel comfortable!
@newlypregnantlady: I hope you're feeling better soon. It's definitely starting to feel more real!

I had my initial OB appointment today. It was with a NP that I've never met before (this office is new to me) and she was SO great. Makes me feel really optimistic about things going forward. I got to hear the HB for the first time in 5 weeks, and I have my NT scan tomorrow so I'm excited to see the little one again
