@shortcake: We are going to do a newborn photo shoot too. I think 14 days is perfect. It gives them some time to lose their baby acne/jaundice if they have those.
You should check out Pinterest for some ideas on what to have your baby wear.... there are some ADORABLE newborn photos on there! I am pretty sure we are having our daughter wear two outfits. One is a vintage style strapless lace romper, and the other she will be naked with this giant hat my SIL got for her (it's probably the cutest thing ever).

Had our growth scan today and fantastic news! DD is now 6lbs 11oz and in the 76th percentile instead of 95th! DH and I sighed a huge breath of relief! Managing my diabetes through diet has really helped curb the babies rapid growth which I practically burst into tears over. She is sitting very low and doing a complete head stand on my cervix. The ultrasound tech also. Couldn't get over her full pouty lips. I think she is going to look just like her daddy!

In other news I was shocked/surprised by my coworkers with a baby shower yesterday. We received so many cute clothes, rattles, diapers, destin. My husband was even there! We work for the same company but different departments and in different locations/towns so I literally jumped when I saw him! He helped plan it that sly dog! My team then had a lunch for me and got me a separate gift from just them today. A visa gift card which was so generous.

I'm officially 2 weeks out from maternity leave, my last day at work is April 27 and I can't wait! I have another growth scan on May 2nd to check on baby position, fluid, and growth and to determine if they will schedule an induction. I feel more confident now I won't need a scheduled C section because the baby is now on the high end of normal scale but I guess you never know!

@winnie when trying on nursing bras at motherhood I was measured and the rule of thumb they go by is to comfortably be able to fit a hand into the cup to accommodate for the breast and a breast pad. Hope this helps! I plan on stocking up on nursing tanks cause they are so comfortable and mostly using those at the hospital.

@madaredevil I have heard labor cookies, Chinese food, pineapple, and a few other labor foods. My OB basically said lots of sex and time on a birth ball really can help open the pelvis/help the cervix to ripen. Next week is my first internal, wish me luck! I hope I'm kinda ripe!

@msmini have a blast at your shower. I was so overwhelmed with its surrealness and of course the generosity and love from our family and friends. Plus, once all that incredible baby stuff is in the house you really start feeling like you're ready for baby! Can't wait to hear how things went!

@auntpol I'm hoping you and the babas are doing well! You've been super quiet as of late! Hope all is well.

@everyone else on the threads we are all so close! I love reading all of your updates and wish I had more of a memory to respond to all of you!

@shortcake: I hope baby gives you a pleasant surprise and you don't need to do the external version, but if not, good luck and let us know how it goes! We're doing newborn photos and our photographer likes to do them before 10 days old, or two weeks old max. She of course makes exceptions, but that's her preferred timeline.

@marriedandlovingit: They're always so short staffed with guys calling out and taking time due it makes me nervous... but in all honesty, they've been so flexible and supportive during this whole process I'm sure I'm worrying for nothing. Your jersey idea will look amazing! What diaper bag did you go with?

@Nskillet: Yay for a great appointment and great job with managing your GD. What a good feeling that must have been when they gave you her #s, you should be proud! Your husband is awesome, what a sweetie for planning that for you. He should share some of his wisdom with my DH! Sounds like you've been having a fantastic week, hopefully the trend continues!

@Volksgirl64: At least you met some new people. I was hoping we'd have similar luck with our childbirth classes, but nobody really on the same page as us. I'm sure your DD enjoyed herself, but in the very least she'll have someone new for play dates now!

@marriedandlovingit: My cousin got us a Red Sox onesie, bib, and booties (I grew up in MA). I'm so excited to put LO in it and take him to a game this summer when they play the Orioles.

@Nskillet: That was so sweet of your coworkers!

Baby has been kicking non-stop today!
Tomorrow I'm leaving for a 5 day trip to the Poconos with DH, his parents, my mom, and my little sister. Our parents have only met a couple times so it will be nice for them to get to know each other more before their grand baby arrives. I've never been to the Poconos, but I hear it's beautiful and I'm looking forward to hiking to some waterfalls and hoping I'll have the energy!

I'm also really hoping LO doesn't try to make an early arrival since we'll be 4 hours from home. Time to go pack! Hope you ladies all have a great weekend!

@shortcake: Wow! 3 weeks til baby: that is fun! We will be doing newborn photos. I have read (and my photographer confirms) that the best time to do the photos is around 7 days old. At that point the babies are still like puddy and easy to work with (not alert enough to be uncooperative) and they also don't usually have baby acne and other skin issues. It's handy for you to know when your baby is coming out for booking those photos. With us, we have to just let our photographer know when the magic moment happens and hope it works out for the timing. (He is going to Mexico for shooting a destination wedding in mid-May). As for what to wear and what you will like, I recommend doing a google image search for newborn photography and note what photos you like and bring those 'props'/clothes. You could even share some of your favourite images with your photographer so he/she knows some of the things you like.

Today I had zero leg/ankle/foot swelling, so it really might have been a salt thing, as I've been having almost no salt today. But I really want to have some salty tortilla chips right now. Maybe I will just have a few.

I just uploaded some nursery progress pics on flicker: http://www.flickr.com/photos/welchminchuk/sets/72157629445647936/with/7074799873/
I will update the photo set and let you guys know as we finish things off next week!

@Nskillet: That is awesome that your LO is down in the percentiles a bit! That will make a vaginal delivery so much easier on you!

@duckduckkristen: Sounds like an awesome trip! Enjoy yourself!

@shortcake: My photog says the earlier the better posing-wise for newborn pics, but the optimal time is between 10-14 days, because the jaundice will clear up a bit, baby is nicely alert, but still posable,

    http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/baby/features/online_only/for_thehome/diapering_pottytraining/PRD~527492/Jessica+Bishop+Jacquard+Personal+Diaper+Bag.jsp

@duckduckkristen: Adorable! Have you gone to Buy Buy Baby to check out the local sports team apparel? They have adorable onesies and outfits for the teams here. Our son is going to be decked out when we go to a game later on this season! Sidenote: Your Red Sox won today!

@LAGS: Meeting people is difficult. Maybe when LO is born, it will become a little easier? I'm hoping so.

I have been super uncomfortable these past couple of days. Walking is now becoming painful, especially when I get a BH contraction. I need to get so much crap done outside of the house, but the thought of shopping alone does not appeal to me one bit. I'm going to go with my husband tonight and this weekend to get stuff done. Right now, cuddling with my pups and watching baseball is the only thing that sounds good

    Today's accomplishments:

    1) wrote all 13 thank-you cards from last week's shower

    2) online: bought a single medela breast pump (covered mostly by gift card money from the shower)

    3) online: bought a newborn carrier (it's a cross between a wrap and a sling) http://bluecelery.com/sling.html

    4) and I haven't done it yet, but we're going to mass this evening for the first time in at least a month and we'll ask our priest for some info about baptism (how to book it, etc)

@marriedandlovingit: That's a cute bag! I went for all black, kinda non diaper bag looking too! I'm hoping with LO it will be easier too, I'm trying to figure out if there are some playdate or Mommy groups in my area.

@cvbee: That's a neat carrier, I haven't seen that one before. DH and I have to get serious about getting back to church too. We haven't gone since we moved. I feel guilty we've let it go this long but we have to figure something out for LO too.

@LAGS: It's never too late and all churches are always happy to see new people. I have had long lapses in church-going in the past, so I totally understand. When we moved to this town it took us a super long time to go too.

How long ago did you move?
I do hope you can connect with other mommies too. Here in my small town, there is a place called the Early Years Centre where you can go and have your kids play with the toys while you watch them. It is paid for by the health unit, and there is staff there to watch how you interact with the children and they lead some crafts and a story time for older children. And at ours, there is a new Moms group (for moms of babies under a year) that meets every Wednesday afternoon there. Apparently there were 18 moms this week. I can't wait to go, as I have 2 friends that go already (who I met through work). I hope you have something like that in your neighbourhood, but if not, you could join things like mommy-and-me swimming or baby-wearing yoga. I'm sure something will work out for you!

@MsMini: I tried a couple times to view your nursery pics but Flickr keeps telling me the page is private!!!

@cvbee: I really like the wrap you got. I got a Moby wrap.. .We will see if I (and the baby) like it!

So today is the third day in a row that I have been having AWFUL period like cramps and lower back pain. I don't feel any tightening in my abdomen though, so I am not sure if they are contractions or not. I am sort of excited for my NST on Monday so I can see what's going on in there. I wonder if I really can just not feel my contractions because my stomach is constantly contracted already.

Oh, since @marriedandlovingit posted the diaper bag she got, it got me wondering what diaper bags all of you decided to go with! DO SHARE!
I was super set on getting a nice leather one that looked like a handbag and not a diaper bag, but I kept reading that the most important feature of a DP should be that it is very easy to clean and wipe out... cause it will get filthy! So, I changed my mind and got this one:

@Nskillet: Thanks for thinking of me!
All grand here, just a bit lazy with online-ness lately. Bit lazy with everything- we went for a stroll in town today and after about 20 minutes, 20 very slow minutes, I so had enough... Soooo tired now! Today it dawned on me, of course- I've got pretty much two five-pounders in there now (u/s Monday will tell) - so that's ten pounds of baby- nobody else at 7 and a half months is carrying ten pounds of baby! So I've calmed down on feeling useless and am being a little more understanding of myself.

You're all making so much progress, we're still in renovation land here, although I do have all the hospital stuff bought. Getting the car seats and the cot mattress this week, and a new freezer so we can stock up on dinners to last us through the first few crazy weeks...
Anyone else feel like a total whale trying to turn in bed? I got horrible pains Wednesday night across the top of my bump when I rolled onto my back, it took both of us to get me from there onto my right side! Since then I have to sit up in order to change sides. Mad.
On the breast pump question, I notice some of you are thinking of bringing them into the hosp for proper instruction before going home- at the antenatal class our midwife advised no messing with pumps at all until about 3 weeks pp, that it would be far better to get milk supply established first and be in some kind of a routine with it before introducing a pump. I'm torn now, partly because I won't have to pay for a lactation consultant in the hospital but once we've left there it'll be costly enough, I'd say. Don't know what to do really!

@LAGS: Thank you! What bag did you go for?

I hope you meet some other mommies! My husband and I want to meet other couples with kiddos our son's age. I want a social little dude (and some new friends would be nice too!).

@aunt pol: I feel like a whale, for sure! I wake up when I turn and feel the need to groan while doing it haha.

@Mrsdaredevil: That sounds painful! Something to ask your dr if you are indeed having contractions.

I feel like absolute crap these days. I think that the baby is starting to drop, although I still feel him at times in my ribs. My belly is a touch lower today. We ran a ton of baby-related errands today. We couldn't resist and got him a couple more outfits. By the end, I had my husband go into the last store while I stayed in the car. I was in so much pain by then.

I am laying down for a bit, but I realllllly need to get started on baby laundry. Our very first load of many! I'm going to start packing up the hospital bag as well.

For those of you that have pets, are you going to have your husband bring home a blanket that the baby has used so your pets get used to the smell?

  18. aunt pol

    kiwi / 525 posts

@marriedandlovingit: Yup, lots of groaning going on here too:)
We are indeed going to bring baby blankets home for doggies to sniff- I don't expect any trouble with our older dog but the pup is a bit stupid still so its worth a little extra effort.
Definitely sitting out the last shop was the right thing to do- its frustrating not being able to do as much as you'd like to, but what can you do? Clearly the body is speaking for itself!

@shortcake: Our friends gifted us a newborn shoot, too! While I haven't spoken directly with our photographer, I did a poll on Hellobee and the consensus is that if possible, photographers like to do the shoot around day 10 - apparently the babies are much more cooperative then!

@Nskillet: That's awesome about your growth scan and the surprise shower!! All good stuff : ) Thanks for the tips on nursing bras. I think mine just might be too big...

@duckduckkristen: Did I miss that you live in Boston?? Me too! And we've got our redsox gear, too : ) Have fun on your trip!

@cvbee: Good for you for a no salt day - I am so addicted to salty stuff, it's terrible! Pickles, nuts, chips, mmm.

@Mrsdaredevil: back pain can definitely be contractions! so now that you are 36 wks are you off modified activity or are they still having you limit activity b/c of blood pressure? wicked cute bag!

@aunt pol: Good to hear all is well with you and the bambinos! Yeah, I can't believe you are due when I am but have DOUBLE the trouble going on in there. Amazing. I can roll side to side OK, but I can't sit up in bed without assistance - to get out of bed, I have to do a log roll to the right and then let my feet touch the ground.

I got a StorkSak Olivia - from my parents for Christmas. Love it!

    http://www.diapers.com/p/stork-sak-olivia-moss-23190

Weekend has been fine - not much different than week honestly! I feel pretty crappy lately courtesy of only getting like 4-5 hours a sleep a night. I just can't sleep lately (I feel like a broken record). I know others are having this problem too. SUCKS.

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@Mrsdaredevil: That is a cute diaper bag. I must confess that we don't have one yet. We got a mini diaper station, which can be put into any bag. http://www.skiphop.com/product/202000.html I would love to get a skip + hop diaper bag too, but for now we'll just go with the flow and toss the mini thing into whatever bag.

@aunt pol: I have definitely been thinking about how you have as much baby in there as the rest of us will ever have even if we have big babies. Plus you have two placentas, right? I am amazed by you.

@marriedandlovingit: I'll have DH bring home a baby blanket for the dog if we remember. That's one of those little things that we're planning on doing, but we'll see if we end up actually remembering.

Thanks to winniebee for asking about the d-drops in another thread; I remembered to buy them today. Check!

And we asked the priest about baptism and he said that there is a registration class once a month on Wednesday evenings. It's this week, but I would have to get someone to cover my last dance class so I could make it and I'd feel bad about that because the recital is coming up so it's pretty much our last class to work on the dance. I guess we'll have to go to the mid-May baptism registration class and won't be able to have the baptism until July (as I think the people we want to be Godparents are very busy in June).

@cvbee: Yup, two placentas, two sacs full of fluid and baby:)
I've been blessed so far, I can't really complain about discomfort at 33 weeks!
There are good points about a bit of a wait for the baptism- at least you'll be completely recovered from labour, baby will be big and strong. I'd say ours will most likely be August or September. It's not hugely important to us, to be honest, and I wouldn't like to have to organise it while us and the babas are still getting to know each other, on minimal sleep!

Looks like everyone is having pretty productive weekends! I got all my thank yous done, so i'm ready for next weekend's shower. Washed all the baby items from the last shower and put them away. Added a few items to my hospital bag. And DH and I narrowed our name list to two (we both picked 3 of our favorites from our list of 7, and two of the names were on both lists). Now we need to decide on some middle names for each of them and should then be set!
This is our "main" diaper bag, but I registered for another one on Amazon. DH says it's "manly" enough that he won't be embarrassed to carry it

@cvbee: That seriously sounds amazing! I hope there's something similar around here, you'll have a blast. We moved about 8 months ago, so I'm hoping with Spring we'll start exploring a little more and making more connections. I know there are breastfeeding support groups so I'm planning to start there and I'm sure there'll be some in the know people who can recommend some other groups!

@Mrsdaredevil: I got the Skip Hop Studio http://www.diapers.com/p/skip-hop-studio-tote-black-17780 I'm pretty excited for it! I love the colors of yours!

@aunt pol: You definitely have reason to feel like you're slowing down! My goodness, you have double the baby we all have in there! I'm starting to feel the discomfort while switching sides in bed too... there's nights where my hips are aching and I know I need to change sides, but I just dread the thought of doing it.

@marriedandlovingit: The socializing thing is my main concern too, I don't want a little hermit baby! If we think of it we might send home something with her scent, but our animals are such space cadets I don't know if it'd make a difference.

@winniebee: You must feel so drained not getting a good nights sleep I hope that changes soon and you can recharge a little before LO arrives. Such a cute diaper bag btw!

@Goldilocks1107: I think I've done myself a disservice getting the diaper bag I have... DH definitely wont be toting that around... we should probably figure something out for him. You're getting so close with names, exciting!!

@cvbee: I like your idea! I'm scared we'll all be so busy we wont update/check in as much and I'm sure I'm going to have a million "Help, what the heck am I doing?!" moments!

@marriedandlovingit: yeah, but I don't think we should start another one.....that is my point (well, if this one is getting too long, we can start another one now) because I think if we have to check 2 May babies boards then we might miss things....and at first the one board will be lonely, and in the end this board would be lonely.....I say we just keep it together, know what I mean? Good Morning!!

How is everyone feeling? I was thinking about it, and for me first trimester was harder than 3rd trimester. And it is just hitting me that in less than a month I won't be pregnant anymore. People say I will miss it, and now I actually think I will.

I was just skyping my friend last night who has a 3 month old. She said she wanted to talk to me to tell me that the first 3 weeks are really hard, and she doesn't want to scare me but she felt like no one told her and it would have been better if someone just gave her the heads-up so that when she was going through the baby blues (even semi-resenting the baby! some crying, and feeling like it's so hard) she would know that it's at least normal. So, I thought I'd pass that along. She said sometimes it's nice just to tell someone 'it's hard!' and for them to say 'yes it is'.

So let us enjoy these last weeks before it gets hard friends!

@marriedandlovingit: Since I have to share with SOMEONE and it's not going to be with people IRL, we've narrowed it to these two first name options: Audrey and Natalie. Now we just need to think about middle names. Ugh!
I had Zoe for my 3rd favorite and DH had Alexandra for his third.
And your dog is adorable - the bassinet is the perfect size for his bed
@cvbee: I think it will be great for us to have this when we get to the "babies are hard" stage. And then I'll be able to finally share our nursery when we have it ready in July!
My back has been aching at night for the past week (it hurts during the day, but since I'm not trying to sleep, I can deal). I tried sleeping propped up on pillows because my hips also hurt and that didn't help. I think I'm going to skip the gym tonight to see if maybe my body just needs a day to rest.
But, since Monday is starting with a "bang" I had to resort to some morning caffeine and am satisfying my fix for a Cherry Coke.

@lags, @marriedandlovingit: We need to meet some people because we don't actually have any couple friends except for some family around here. I signed up to join a MeetUp group for moms and we're supposed to go to an event on Saturday. A lot of them are SAHMs though so it makes it hard when I can't attend the Friday moming coffee dates!

@cvbee: We actually didn't baptize DD1 until almost a year had gone by, whoops! We were living so far from both our families and we didn't know how to include both of them. I finally got tired of waiting and we just did it. I think with this one that we'll be more on the ball.

This was kind of a busy weekend for us, just with errands & stuff. Saturday we did gymnastics and then did some shopping. I bought 2 coming home outfits that will both go to the hospital so that's good. We spent SO much at BRU!
Yesterday we bought a freezer! We've been talking about it for EVER and finally found a good one on Craigslist so now its in our basement. I think we'll try doing Dream Dinners once to stock it up and I'll start making some extra dinners to put in there. DH is all about filling it with meat, which is great but we need actual meals.
Doctor appt. today and I'm just hoping that my weight hasn't changed because I had some serious water weight last time. I'm going to be guzzling water today!

I have 1 week left of work and I'm on maternity leave for 1 year. Excited about that. I need to start putting all her clothes away, packing my hospital bag and buy all the missing baby products 'Creams, soaps etc'

Oh and I have to find time for a maternity shoot in there as well. Lots to do, and less than 4 weeks to go!!!

@cvbee: Agree! If this thread gets too long or maybe in June, once everyone has had their bambinos we start a new thread "May Mamas" or something. I am attached to all of you and it will be nice to have sounding boards throughout the early months!

@duckduckkristen: Aw, well it's nice you can still catch Red Sox games : ) Today is marathon monday and I'm watching it from my couch - it's supposed to be upper 80's poor runners!

@cvbee: I have heard that from several people - you always focus on how hard pregnancy will be, or how hard labor will be, but it's nothing compared to the first few weeks. Lots of emotions, trying to figure out breastfeeding, lack of sleep, and otherwise just pretty overwhelmed.

    @Goldilocks1107: I love Audrey!

@volksgirl64: Sounds like a busy weekend! Great idea about the freezer, too. I wish we had space for that!

Today is Marathon Monday in Boston, which is such a fun day - and it is going to be upper 80's - I am SO wishing that I could be outside. Once of the downfalls of living in the city is that we just have a back deck and it only gets morning sun (and we live on the third floor) so I can't really get much vitamin D.

34 + 1 which means less than 2 weeks of bedrest to go! I'm kind of stalled on baby stuff at the moment - need to order a baby book, figure out my nursing bra situation, and have my mom iron and hang curtains and hang our fishy wall decal. Need to have DH install the carseat this weekend, too, but that may be it? I need to do some other stuff like figure out how my breast pump works and figure out life insurance, but not worried about that stuff.

Somewhat funny story to share about raging hormones. I was trying to look up a coworker's baby registry on Target.com yesterday and kept getting this message about cookies needing to be enabled. Basically, I couldn't get past that screen and went on a mini rant while trying to find a workaround. DH told me it wasn't worth freaking out over and before he even finished, I snapped "Not helping." Then told him it doesn't help to point out when I'm being irrational, especially when I'm in the middle of being irrational.
After that, I utilized the Google to get past the Target internet police and just googled the direct URL to the baby registry. Crisis averted.
I really think DH has had it too easy this pregnancy because my hormones haven't been too out of whack and I just don't think he gets it (and how telling me I'm being ridiculous only makes it worse - he did the same thing when I wasn't pregnant "don't get upset" - well, I wasn't getting upset until you told ME NOT TO!).

In other news - anyone else looking for a dislodged mucus plug every time you go to the bathroom? Um . . . me neither

@cvbee: That sounds good. I agree in waiting until everyone has their little ones. We all will update here in the meantime

@volksgirl64: You too?! We went crazy at BRU. I have a bunch more to spend this week on Amazon and a few more things to get at BRU!

@Goldilocks1107: Audrey is a beautiful name! I like Natalie as well. It is a fun, cute name. Thanks for sharing!

I am feeling crappy. I am sooooo congested. The pollen here is awful, and I wouldn't be surprised if that is why I am feeling this way.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I was SO busy for the weekend I was at home. One of my Aunts even flew in from out of town for the shower and to visit for the weekend (and to harass me to lie down more all weekend long LOL). The shower on Saturday was awesome, we got our infant car seat, and video monitor, the Coach diaper bag that my Mom had me choose, and a ton of other really nice useful stuff. We got a fair bit off of the registry, and the non-registry items were all really practical things. It was so awesome seeing everyone. I will try to get a hold of the pics and post some (and get my flicker security settings figured out ... oops) We only got about 6 outfits, in all different sizes amazingly! We also celebrated our nieces 1st birthday party on Sunday, so I have to go buy some bundlers and sleepers this week.

I have been contracting all weekend every 20 mins to 1 hour with lots of cervix pain, so I will be interested to see how things progressed at my appointment today. My swelling is pretty crazy right now, from friday on it is there from the moment I wake up, and it looks like I traded legs with the Michelin Man. My blood pressure has also been really touchy over the weekend. I have been so uncomfortable and tired, that for the first time I am feeling like I could be ready to have this baby soon.

@marriedandlovingit: I am with you on the discomfort! I hope you can find some relief!

@cvbee: That Moms group sounds awesome, I will have to see if there is something like that here!

@winniebee: The third trimester insomnia is just brutal! I had so much trouble sleeping over the weekend that by the time we got home last night I was a zombie! I hope you are fitting in lots of naps!

@Goldilocks1107: I like your names, they are so classic and pretty! Good luck with a middle name (we are using whatever name we don't use for our first as our middle as they luckily go together).

@blushink: It sounds like we are on almost the same schedule with the nursery! I can't wait to see yours!

@MsMini: Can't wait to see yours too! I love nursery reveals. They make me so happy.

I have to admit I'm a little sad that this is the last nursery I'll be doing (we only want 2 kids) and she's #2
