@MsMini: It's great that you have such a proactive OB.

So... I am finally nesting. Got the living room all organized so that I could move my desk out of the bedroom. NOW all I want to do is buy and set up a crib!
My family thinks I can wait until baby is born. Initially I thought so too. My BIL and SIL got theirs at 18 or 19 weeks. All my in laws think we have everything ready.
So, I ask my husband, "When do you think we should buy a crib?"
    "I dunno, May?"

Sure that's crazy! You never know whether you'll feel able for the shopping at that point, or if the baby might come early or anything! Personally if we have cot and car seats, some basic clothes and blankets, I'm happy enough the rest can wait, but I don't see those as things that can wait! You'd only end up worrying about when you would get it. Better to buy it now and have it ready to go! We have the cot and the stroller, getting the cot mattress this weekend, car seats in a couple weeks.

@cvbee: From what I hear, the glucose test is one part that's not bad to miss! Also, I always feel *a little* left behind the May babies, since I'm due at the end of May and therefore a few weeks behind what everyone's doing.

@pastemoo: Maybe tell your husband that life will be a little all consuming once baby arrives...I think that's the biggest reason to want to get and set up a crib now. You're probably not going to go crib shopping w/ a newborn ; ) So happy your nesting is kicking in!!

@MsMini: The GD thing is a major bummer. Sounds like your house and other stuff is going well, though!

I finally had a weekend off after working several weekends in a row. It was wonderful, but so busy! Taxes, car inspection, time with DH's family, working on registry, and shopping for a glider. We ended up getting a non-baby room glider (Flexsteel swivel glider) because we figure we can use it in a living room later on. It's super comfy!

25 weeks yesterday. Baby's movements are pretty strong these days (even though I have an anterior placenta). No crazy rib pains or any other crazy kicking pains, thankfully.

My insomnia is...better. I've been taking 1/2 unisom about 30 mins before bed. I still get up to pee several times a night and wake up frequently (my hips start hurting if I lay on one side too long...even though I use the snoogle). But, at least I fall back asleep and haven't had any nights where I can't fall asleep.

Other than that, nothing new to report!

Happy Monday and I hope everyone is well!

@winniebee: I just want to build the crib when I can actually help--not when I can just sit and watch him build it. Also,.. I want to make sure it will actually fit in the space we have! (Eeek).
I'd also like to get the car seat, the mattress, and one sheet. Everything else can wait.

    @aunt pol: Thanks!

@winniebee: Woo hoo for sleeping and having a weekend off! Sounds like things are going really well.
And why do you feel behind? I secretly think this baby I've got will hold on and be a June baby.

Quick update, had a fun evening in the hospital this side of the pond. I went to my gp at 3pm, scheduled appointment, just to keep her informed of where everything is at. So she checked bp, urine, weight, all perfect.
Then she got out her little old fashioned Doppler to have a listen to the heartbeats. And she couldn't find twin 2's heartbeat.
Well she probably did catch it, but her Doppler only has one head so can only listen to one heart at a time- there's no way to compare or contrast. I wasn't particularly worried- at my last scan the babas were literally nose to nose in there- so I figured twin2 was hiding behind twin 1 or something, I really didn't think there was anything wrong. And I've a scheduled growth scan Monday anyway. But doc was concerned so she gave me a letter to bring to the emergency clinic in the mat hosp straight away.

So off I went, poor DH terrified meeting me there- he's a born worrier, can't help himself- and spent FIVE hours in the damn Assessment room. Hanging around, mostly- staff shortages. Their Doppler showed two perfectly distinct and healthy heartbeats but I was told to stay until the doc on call saw me to do a quick scan. Everything perfect on that too. So we got home, starving, at half ten, exhausted from sitting around all evening!

Obviously the main thing is that the babas are fine, but the whole thing was v frustrating. I genuinely felt that everything was grand but as my doc said, Best to err on the side of caution, especially with twins. So that was my excitement for the day! It's 1.03 am here now, in bed looking online for nursing bras and really light comfy pyjamas... Am officially 25 weeks now, only 13 left:)
    How's everyone else doing midweek?

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@aunt pol: Aww. ERs are SOOOO frustrating, and they make you go so much more often when you're pregnant. Glad the babes are doing well. Ihope you can catch up on sleep tonight!

    kiwi / 525 posts

@pastemoo: Lol I slept twelve hours straight after posting that!

Quick question for the rest of you- my friend is 17 weeks today and having really bad rib pains- is that not a bit early? I know some of you have had rib pain since wks 22-24 or so?
I still haven't had any and can't understand my good luck, particularly since my two are breech and seem to be happily using all available space:)

  11. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@aunt pol: not really, but if it's on the right side, between the abdoben and rib cage, near the center, she should go to the ER and get her gallbladder checked, just in case.

  12. aunt pol

    kiwi / 525 posts

Bugger, I'm fairly sure that's exactly where it is:( she's not having any nausea or anything though, don't you usually get v sick with gallbladder issues?

  13. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@aunt pol: No, it's rare, but very serious.,

So where's everyone been all week?

  14. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@pastemoo: I know, quiet thread this week! I had a really busy week at work and we were away last weekend.

Things here are going well - almost 27 weeks and 3 months to go! Had a midwife appt. yesterday and all seems well. We talked scheduling classes, stress relief, and weight gain (up 6 lbs in a month and 16 total lbs). My midwife is fine with the gain and I'm on track to gain at least 25 lbs so she seems happy with that.

This weekend, we're doing some baby stuff - starting to clean out our office for the baby's room. Sunday, we are heading to the mountains for some R&R for a few days (to the place where we got married) for a mini baby moon. I have 3 days off next week and when we get back to town, hopefully will make more progress on the baby room.

Oh, and my shower invitations went out (and were received) - makes it all seem so real! Shower is April 1 : )

Winnie my shower is March 31st! So excited. Not too much new with me. Really bummed I failed my 1 hour glucose test. Tomorrow I have the 3 hour which I'm not excited about. Weirdest thing is I've only gained 8 lbs this whole pregnancy am 28 weeks but baby is measuring at 32 weeks. I even felt great after the orange glucose! Keep your fingers crossed for me ladies!

Husband has been stressed about finances lately which has been a bother. Otherwise, doing pretty good!

We just finished painting the baby's room and our crib arrived yesterday so we'll be setting up the furniture this weekend. It's getting real!

Glucose test coming up on Monday and rhogam on Wednesday. Up 18 lbs at 29 weeks. Feeling great and getting hungrier!

  17. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@winniebee: Yay, that is so cool! Have fun planning the shower. So excited to hear about the baby room! I am going to look for cribs this weekend.

I just had my glucose test this morning. The drink itself wasn't so bad drinking it, but keeping it down was tough. I almost passed out before/during/after the blood draw (felt really light headed from 20 minutes before the blood draw until I ate "real" food). Results Monday!

@Nskillet: Good luck on your test! I'm suprised you failed since you have so little weight gain. I'm afraid I'll fail since I've gained 25+ pounds already (27w) and haven't been feeling well the last few days.
I'm also starting to stress about finances because my job doesn't want to let me work until I go into labor--they want a specific last day.

@duckduckkristen: Good luck on your test! And -- yay, new crib! We're hoping to set up this weekend, too.

  18. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@pastemoo: I have no role in planning my shower! I just picked a date and provided a list of friends to invite. I don't even know the theme - very excited : )

Ugh re: GD testing.....I just had mine bumped a few weeks, so I actually won't have it until I'm almost 30 weeks.

  19. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@winniebee: 30 weeks Well, I guess it's less time to worry about it.
    Shower sounds fun!

  20. Nskillet

Well, failed the 3 hour. Fasting levels were great at 85 but after 100 glucose drink I sky rocketed to 196 at my hour and then 177 at 2 hour and then regulated at 132 for my 3rd hour. I'm trying not to be upset but can't help myself. I'm a plus sized mom and have always dreaded GD and now I have it. Here's hoping my 24 hour urine (joy) and trip to the dietitians and OEF or whatever is good when it happens. Just feeling guilty about my body today I guess.

  21. aunt pol

    kiwi / 525 posts

@Nskillet: that's a divil. Still, chin up, don't let it get the better of you. Fingers crossed its just the diet and the blood checks. My test is less than a fortnight away and I'm not feeling positive about it- I'd say my weight will decide it for me:(.
Best of luck with it, keep us posted!

  22. Nskillet

    persimmon / 1099 posts

@aunt pol: thanks for that! I needed it :). Truth is GD is a common thing, isn't life threatening and I could probably stand a bit more rabbit food in my life. My baby is my #1 concern so I'm going to take this quite seriously!

  23. aunt pol

    kiwi / 525 posts

@Nskillet: try to look at it as a (Ok, forced;) ) opportunity to really overhaul your health. If you're like me you've been living and eating healthier pregnant than previously, but with a gd diet you'll really be on the ball.

  24. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@Nskillet: I'm sorry. Don't feel guilty though! They know how to help with GD now. Also, baby might be early. It's only a couple months of annoying diets and treatment.
Good luck and feel free to complain here

@pastemoo: Thanks for the support! I guess I needed to vent/feel a but blue about thr diagnosis. Ive worked so hard to not gain weight during this pregnancy and to try and stay ahead of diabetes but is hormonal and nothing I did "wrong".

    Thanks for all the encouragement!

  26. pastemoo

@Nskillet: Exactly it's nothing you did wrong It's still ok to complain though. It sucks! I mean it's not super awful, but it still sucks.

Back from our babymoon - from hell - DH and I both got the norovirus or food poisoning while there and spent half the time in our room....I will spare you the details, but I was pretty close to an ER visit. So much for a nice relaxing time off : ( Supposed to go back to work tomorrow, but thinking I need another day....

    persimmon / 1099 posts

@winniebee: Oh no!! How horrible. Was it something you guys ate at the resort? Im so sorry to hear about you almost having to go to the ER, how scary...

More news, Dhs doctor called us tonight to let us know he also has elevated glucose levels so has to head to the doctors tomorrow for another blood draw. Looks like we both may be in this diabetes thing together

@winniebee: Oh no! I'm sorry--that's awful! How are you doing now? I hope you get well soon.

@Nskillet: Wow. That will make following the diet easier. Sorry!

In other news, I finally bought that crib I wanted--it went on sale for leap day, and I jumped on it.

Got in a car accident today. Had to be hooked up to a fetal monitor for 6 hours! Poop.
BUT baby is not bleeding and the contractions stopped after 2 or 3 hours so they finally let me come home. Yay!

  32. cvbee

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@pastemoo: scary! I;m so glad all is well. I've never been in a car accident, but I've been trying to be conscious about putting my seatbelt in the 'right' place just in case of an accident. Yikes. That must have been so scary for you.

  33. MsMini

    grapefruit / 4056 posts

@winniebee: That sucks! I can't imagine how disappointing that would be.

@Nskillet: I am sorry for your GD diagnosis (I have GD as well, and so far it isn't as bad as I thought it would be!). I am also sorry for the news that your husband is having issues as well.

@pastemoo: I am glad you and baby are okay! That is a scary experience that I am sure you could have done without though.

  34. Nskillet

    persimmon / 1099 posts

@MsMini: Ms Mini thanks! So far it hasnt been so bad for me either and Im actually feeling quite good watching my carbs/sugars. I havent started using a glucometer yet but will after my appt on March 15th. DH also went for a second blood draw today and his sugars were normal...yay! They gave him a glucometer though and took more blood for his physical next week so fingers crossed it was a fluke or lab error. Do you have any favorite or "go to" diabetic foods/recipes?

@pastemoo how scary!! I was in a horrible car accident at 11 weeks and it was the most frightening thing ever. If you need support or just need to vent feel free to wall me or post here!

  35. MsMini

    grapefruit / 4056 posts

@Nskillet: I haven't really got into much diabetic friendly recipes, I have just been cautious with my portions, and I have pretty much eliminated treats. Honestly though, it has had minimal impact on my diet in general, save for eliminating snacking on cookies or whatnot. My sugars have been awesome doing it this way, and I will restrict even further if I notice them trending up, but so far in 3 weeks I have only had 2-3 high readings (all were when we ate out, and I didn't pay enough attention to the serving size of the carb components). I did make a chocolate cheesecake for DH's birthday using Splenda, there is a bit of an aftertaste, but we found by serving it with some berries, you covered that taste up.

  36. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@Nskillet: ugh sorry about your hubby's news too!! at least you can go through this together!

@pastemoo: holy crap! are you ok? glad to hear the little one is doing fine...

Thanks for the kind words - we were pretty bummed about the babymoon, but what can you do? Feeling better today and back at work. I might sneak in a sick day or two over the next few months to make up for it ; )

  37. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

@cvbee: Thanks! Yeah, I am always good with the seatbelt. And luckily traffic was already heavy, so we weren't going that fast (well, I wasn't--no clue how fast the guy behind me was going).

@MsMini: Thanks. I don't know--I've been feeling better/more excited about everything lately, so it's really weird timing for me to be back at the hospital.
    How have you been?

@Nskillet: Thanks so much! It was pretty scary, and tomorrow or later I will totally take you up on that! Glad the diet is starting well, and glad to hear DH seems to be in the clear.

@winniebee: Baby is good. He flipped to breach (and out of his "usual" spot since I first noticed I could tell where he was (14 weeks or so?)--pretty weird. I'm going to be sore for a bit, but should be no permanent damage. The car thing is going to be rough--possibly totaled. I love that car
    Do it--take those sick days!

  38. MsMini

    grapefruit / 4056 posts

@pastemoo: I am glad to hear that you are feeling better about it all lately. I have been feeling well, no more spotting or cramping. Just the usual braxton hicks/sore back/sore growing bump. My blood sugars and blood pressure are well under control, so I am feeling more confident I will be able to work until the end of my pregnancy. I am trying to eat up my vacation a bit before I go on leave (shortening my long stretches of shifts), because they won't let me hold it for the year I will be off, but we are super short staffed, so that is proving to be difficult!

  39. pastemoo

    cantaloupe / 6146 posts

    @MsMini: Taken any vacation lately?

  40. MsMini

    grapefruit / 4056 posts

@pastemoo: I haven't been able to yet, but because my BP is up, and I am on meds now for it now, my manager is working to cover some shifts for me, so I will use 2 vacation days next week, and 3 in early April, so that will use a good chunk of what I had left to use. I will still need to pay out a little bit of vacation in the end I think.
