On my way to my GD test (having it late, almost 30 wks!) followed by midwife appt (that I like to refer to as "weigh in"). Topics of discussion: ongoing BH contractions and sleep issues.
We settled on a day care after looking at another last night. The biggest factor was convenience - we are going with the center located .3 miles from our house rather than the one that is 2 miles from our house. We live in Boston so traffic is a major concern and getting stressed out for dropoff/pickup seems important. Is that bad that that's our primary concern??!

@winniebee: GOOD LUCK! I hope you feel ok after. That test ruined my dad.
@MsMini: Oh. thanks
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Well, the GD test wasn't that bad. BUT, I gained 5 lbs in 3 wks. And I had the stomach bug in that timeframe and barely ate for a week! WTF.
Also, on my walk back from the doc, I tripped and landed on my hands and knees - belly was protected, but cue in wearing flats from now on....

@winniebee: aww no I hate falling like that!!! Im the clumsiest person on the planet so no heels for me like ever. I hope the GD test goes well but honestly being diagnosed isnt as bad/scary as I thought. Ms Mini was right, it just isnt that bad!
I had my hospital appt today and it went AWESOME! I am borderline GD and my blood sugars were all well below recommended levels by glucometer and blood draws all day today. Had my non-stress test and baby has a nice strong HB and movement was good. Then the growth scan and baby girl is BIG. She is already weighing (based on their predictions) 4lbs 14oz. Shes also quite long and has a sizeable head. My fluids are
perfect, and her belly isnt enlarged so the doctors think I am just destined to have a large baby. My EDD based in my LMP is 5/13 but based on her measurements it stated 4/26!! So, I go back in 4 weeks for another growth scan because she is large. DH and I now think she will be early, but who knows she could stop growing!! Regardless, she was beautiful on screen. I couldnt get over how big she had gotten and they confirmed again team pink!!
All in all Im wicked relieved. Shes head down, and is healthy as a horse :o)
persimmon / 1134 posts
@winniebee: Don't feel bad. I gained 3 lbs in 1 week! I'm assuming a lot of it is fluid though, because the same week I noticed how puffy my ankles are now. Some of yours is probably fluid too, especially if you haven't been able to eat much.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@winniebee: Flats are pretty, too!
And don't worry. All 2nd trimester I gained 5lbs every 2-3 weeks. I'm the same weight now as a few weeks ago even though I'm finally starting to eat like a pregnant woman. Your body knows what it needs.

@winniebee - somewhat nervous but this is my second, so not as much. I'm really nervous that when things start to happen, they're going to happen REALLY fast. My mom said it happened to her and her sister too, with their 2nd kids.
@nskillet - great news! And isn't it good to have another confirmation on gender? For some reason I get really nervous that they missed something.
DH has been painting for 2 days and it's pretty bright green but I'm hopeful that once we get the furniture back in there and everything decorated that it will be perfect. We don't really have a choice!
Been walking every day since the weather in MN has been so gorgeous. Took DD to the park yesterday and we'll probably walk again today!

@pastemoo: Thanks! Apparently my body knows it needs full fat ice cream every night! Bit of a wake up call, though. I need to make desserts more of a "treat".
@jennylynn: thanks : )
@Nskillet: Glad you had good results at the hospital and a great growth scan. Baby sounds big and beautiful : )
I passed my GD test, yahoo!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@Nskillet: head down? WOO! and 4lbs 14oz? That's a lot! Maybe you'll be the first of us.
@volksgirl64: I can't wait to go for walks again. Glad you're enjoying them
@winniebee: congrats and passing your GD test.
I realized I typed "dad" instead of "day" on my comment before. I hated that GD test because it made me feel sick all day. Glad that's over.
Home sick today. Baby is being weird today, too--he knows I'm sick. It's weird. And I was bleeding yesterday. I didn't call my OB clinic because they always just say "go the hospital if it gets xyz bad" and it stopped today. I'll let them know at my next appt (next week).

@pastemoo: very nice weekend! Went shopping for my shower outfit which is *gulp* next weekend already! then DH and I put all new blinds on the front of our house/did a deep clean. What a difference!
You feeling better paste?
apricot / 384 posts
@pastemoo - it WAS a nice weekend! The weather here was in the upper 70s both days (but VERY windy). We got lots of outdoor time with DD, even took the bike out for a ride. Put the final coat of paint on the nursery so we'll start putting it back together this week.
We get our taxes done tonight and I'm anxious to see how that goes for us. It will be the first year in our house so I'm curious how that all plays in.

@pastemoo: Great weekend here too! We flew to MA for my family shower which was so fun but also totally overwhelming since there were sooo many people and I'm uncomfortable being the center of attention. We did get a lot of cute stuff though, plus our stroller, car seat, and even a giant stuffed giraffe as tall as me!
@volksgirl64: uhhgg taxes! ours were really complicated this year so we had to actually see a CPA for the first time ever, but it's finally done! good luck!

@winniebee: yay for passing your glucose test....and yay for ice cream. When I went grocery shopping this weekend I took a good long stop in front of the ice cream section. I thought 'hmm, ice cream is one of those stereotypical pregnancy foods and I haven't had any'......and then I remembered that I hadn't heard back about my glucose test yet, so I kept on walking. (Not that this didn't stop me from eating the red velvet cake DH made last night).

@Nskillet: Yay for your healthy baby scan. I was also relieved to hear that my baby's sex hasn't changed (still a boy). (Not that it really matters, but I just didn't trust it from the one scan so long ago). For me, the ultrasound was all business (probably because I was actually in there because of kidney pain), so she didn't let me see the screen at all. But I do know that I'm also head down. That's nice to know and now I'm just always hoping that baby isn't turning.

It was great! Beautiful out - sat out in the park and got some color, took a long walk, and we moved our office upstairs to clear out baby's room! Lots of progress made. Starting to feel more tired more easily lately - went for a 2.5 mile walk yesterday and my legs felt SO tired afterwards!
@pastemoo: Are you feeling any better??
@volksgirl64: I bet you will get a refund - home owning definitely makes a difference there!
@duckduckkristen: Glad you had a nice shower! Sounds like you got some good gear.
@cvbee: I took a few days off from ice cream after my last weigh in....but then had a brownie sundae at home last night. Oops.

Anyone else feel like they are back in the 1st trimester in terms of food? I was eating so healthy, but now all I want is carbs, carbs, carbs! Working out is getting pretty difficult too. Everything feels like it takes so much more energy and I'm exhausted after just walking a mile and a half.
I think I'm starting to develop a slight waddle too.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@Nskillet: Aww, cute!
No, I'm not really sick anymore (maybe I'm at 50% of normal functioning, but that is pretty much good enough), but my hip is not getting better. More physical therapy tomorrow. My doctor says the baby may actually exacerbate it so I may not get better until after pregnancy...
@duckduckkristen: pics of the giant giraffe? sounds cute! Glad you enjoyed the shower.
@cvbee: hahahhahha. I just asked my husband for ice cream! I've had it twice so far--both times for coworkers' birthday cakes at lunch (ice cream cakes for both of them).
@winniebee: Sounds like a gorgeous day.
@duckduckkristen: I haven't been to the gym in almost 3 weeks now. I miss it!!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@duckduckkristen: Yes, everything is getting more difficult and lately I am so darn tired at the end of the day. The waddle is in full effect, too (but when I notice I'm doing it, I can stop)! I am on a carbs and sweets kick lately.....forced a spinach salad for lunch. Walked 2.5 miles yesterday outside for my exercise and could not have been more pooped afterwards.
@pastemoo: Ugh sucks your hip pain persists....hope PT helps!

Well, despite all my tests coming back okay (other than my baby slipping in the growth percentiles a bit on ultrasound), me and my OB decided together that this will be my last week of work. I will get to work my last shifts on thursday and friday, and then I am off.
My OB was quite concerned that with my complications (hyperemesis that still requites medication, GD and PIH) that working is not the best thing for my baby, and that I need to be at home resting and relaxing.
I am sad, I LOVE my job, and this means I will be away for over a year (I will be on sick leave/short term disability until baby is born, and then on mat leave for a year from babies birth date). I will definitely miss it!
I guess this means I will have some time for nursery projects, once we get the nursery painted. I have a lineup of them right now: Making a ruler growth chart, making some prints to frame for the walls, also making some tissue pomanders for above the change table.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MsMini: Awwww sorry that you have to cut work short. I know how much you like work! In the end, perhaps a little extra relaxing before baby will be good for you. Plus, you might go early, so it might not be as much time as you think. Keep on truckin'.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@winniebee: Yeah, I was sad, but totally prepared today that this might happen! My OB is so concerned that continuing to work could mean delivering in the next couple weeks (preterm delivery rates are higher with shift work), and I really don't want to be in NICU as a parent. I am glad I get 2 more shifts to say goodbye!
persimmon / 1099 posts
@MsMini: Aw, I'm sorry you're slightly bummed MsMini! Hopefully this means you will be able to grow baby mini as long as possible with some relaxation before hand!
Think positive, work will always be waiting for you lucky Canadian girls!

@MsMini: Glad you are at least finding a way out of NICU from "the other side."

Are any of you ladies having/have had a third trimester growth ultrasound? I didn't think I was supposed to get one but at my 33 week appt today they had me schedule one for next week. I thought they only did them if there was some kind of problem (GD, etc.) and I have had an issue free pregnancy. It should be nice to see the baby one more time though and find out how he's growing!
kiwi / 525 posts
@duckduckkristen: yup, a list of them:) that's twins for you! Have one on April 2nd, then the 16th, 30th, I think, and I'll probably be weekly after that. It's great knowing how they're growing! Apparently they'll only bring me in early (before 38 weeks) if u/s shows babas have stopped growing, but if I haven't gone in by 38 I'll be brought in then anyway cos that's full term for multiples.
To be honest I think if we go again after this pregnancy and we have a single baby pregnancy, I'd find the scarcity of u/s very hard to adjust to- its great seeing them change all the time !
How's everyone else doing midweek? I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop- I'm having such an easy time it's ridiculous. Yeah I've round ligament pain when I've sat too long and stand up quickly, restless legs at night and mild rib pain the last couple days, but overall I feel so well and I can't help but think I'm saving all the discomfort up for the last two months. Fingers crossed it stays like this!
MsMini- it's great that you like your job so well, but the rest will obviously do you and the baba the world of good, and maybe you'll get to store up some sleep!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@duckduckkristen: As far as I know I'm not having one, but I'm only 30.5 wks so that may change.
Well, this afternoon I had BH constantly for 2 hours. My OB's rule is if I have them every 15 mins for 2 hours (and am resting and drinking water, call). Well, I had them every 7-15 minutes for 2 hours so called. Had to go in to office - did cervical check and cervix is still long and closed. Then NST, which seemed fine. I only had one contraction while on the monitor though. And, one before and one after. The nurse confirmed that I'm feeling BH so at least I know I'm not crazy. Now I am waiting for results of a fetal fibronectin test and my need to go to the hospital if it's positive. All a big headache and not sure what any of it really means. The OB seems to think the contractions are activity-related, but I don't think so. Also, I drink over 100 oz of water a day, and that's just water! Since leaving OB office, I have continued to have them for every 15 mins. Am now on the couch hoping they will subside....

@duckduckkristen: I had one at 34 weeks because I was measuring a little small. Not to disappoint you, but she was so big at that point that it was really hard to tell what I was seeing on the monitor. I personally thought the 20 week u/s was way better.
@winniebee: I hope everything is ok. If it's any reassurance, I had a similar experience at around 34 weeks. I really thought I was in preterm labor, but it went away and I haven't had anything like it since. Keep us posted!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@jennylynn: Thanks! I have had BH contractions pretty consistently for about 4 weeks, but nothing as bad as today. Still no word about the other test, so I'm just chilling and getting them every 5-7 minutes still!

I got great news today, turns out I have a buttload of sick time, so I will use that and will be off on full pay until I deliver (WOOT WOOT). I also do qualify for short term disability, but they require you to exhaust your sick bank first, so I will do that.
I had no idea I had enough sick time to go off for almost 2 months with pay (shows how often I have called in sick, even though I feel like I used a ton of sick time this pregnancy!).
Let me tell you, the idea of sitting at home with full pay certainly warms me up to this being off of work thing. I am just so glad I don't have to eat into my mat leave benefits before baby is born.
Also, I am trying to plan outfits for my mat pics ... I might put together boards to get opinions if I can find a good place to do so.
@aunt pol: Thanks! I am looking forward to my last 2 shifts, and then I think I will enjoy my rest.
@winniebee: You are certainly having a ton of BH, hopefully your fetal fibronectin comes back negative! Is your doctor considering trailing bed rest if he thinks the BH are activity related? I wouldn't think it is a hydration issue considering how much water you drink! I hope the BH give you a rest, they are just not that much fun!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Well I bought myself a few overnights at hospital. Am now 1 cm dilated and 50 percent refaced. These are real contractions. They are doing what they can to stop contractions. At not quite 31 weeks we want this baby to stay put. Wish us luck....
persimmon / 1087 posts
@winniebee: Crap! I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your hubby, and your little one right now. You are in good hands there, I am positive.
If it makes you feel any better, my friend's water broke with twins at 25 weeks. After rushing her to the hospital, they stopped her contractions and kept her pregnant until the Dr and her figured it was time to deliver (she could've stayed pregnant longer, but she had enough). They can do so much these days.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@winniebee: Oh no! Good luck and I hope you and baby are ok. Even though 31 weeks is really early, baby has a really good chance now (90%?) so don't stress. Good luck!
persimmon / 1099 posts
@winnie wow baby boy is eager to be in your arms! Praying for you that they slow things down. Remain positive girl, sounds like your OB is all over you which is a good thing.
In baby skillet news had my OB appt on Tuesday and they confirmed my baby is large (95th percentile) but don't think she is due to my GD since they said. My sugars are perfect they more think due to genetics I will have large babies. As a result, I have another growth scan in April and cause my sugar is so good they won't make me do the weekly NSTs which is excellent. My OB has been mentally preparing me for C section or induction based on her size at the next scan. They said they most likely won't let me go past 39 weeks but a final decision will be made after my next ultrasound.
I am also feeling awesome. Getting some more rib pain/upper back pain and tired more easily these days but I haven't had a single Braxton hix contraction! Honestly, don't know what they feel like or if I'd know it was happening.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@winniebee: Oh no! I hope that they are able to stop the labour, and they your little guys keep gestating inside your belly for a few more weeks at least! Take care of yourself!

How is it that I just found the due date twins section?!? I think I'll come over here and check in a bit more (good to see so many familiar faces from WB!).
@winniebee: Just posted to your other update and wanted to reiterate here that I hope everything goes well for the next few days.
@duckduckkristen: I have an ultrasound next week (32 weeks), but it's to double check on a small issue they saw on my 20 week ultrasound. I'm hoping to get a second check at the gender - just to make sure there's still a girl brewing in here.
