Hi Ladies, I wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently 29 weeks along with DD #2, due May 22nd! We have another DD at home, who will be 3 on 3/26 and we're all excited to meet our new girl!
Things have been pretty good this time around, though I'm more tired (probably due to DD#1!) but I'm happy I passed the GD test and my weight gain is only 18lbs so far!
Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

@MsMini: stinks about your increased BP - hope that some time at home and off your feet will help!
@pastemoo: hope your hip starts feeling better soon! baby has plenty of time to flip out of breach, so hopefully he will soon.
@volksgirl64: welcome and congrats on your baby girl!!!

How's everyone hanging these days?
I'm pretty good - getting bigger by the moment! 28 + 4 and things seem to be pretty status quo. Still getting lots of BH contractions and trying to slow down in life, but sort of impossible.
We still have LOTS to do to get ready for this baby - the next month is packed with baby stuff - next weekend finally cleaning out our study for the baby's room (March 17), the following weekend, getting furniture delivered (March 24), then my shower (April 1), then childbirth class (April 7). Eek!

Things are going well here! Still feeling pretty great - actually able to exercise MORE at this point but hungrier than ever! Feels like I've been pregnant foreverrr! 9 more weeks...
Passed my GD test and got an ultrasound yesterday which showed baby is head down.
We have 2 showers coming up this month (one family and one friends) and a trip to the Poconos in April. Seems like we're busy every weekend until this baby comes!

I'm 32 weeks and feeling good! I was having bh contractions all evening yesterday, but I am not concerned. I have an appt. today and will tell the Dr. about it.
I might be leaving town next week with my hubby. He has a work trip in San Antonio, and it seems like a good excuse to get out of town for the last time before baby arrives.
I think that pregnancy may have given me a slight hint of a booty. I was pancake ass before pregnancy, and now there is finally a little something back there. It may be my hopeful imagination though, so I will have to ask hubby lol
It feels so nice not having to buy anymore maternity clothes at this point. Whenever it is warmer outside, I wear my yoga pants that hit at the knee and throw on a tank top, and they work just fine!

Glad everyone is in good form this end of the week. That clock is really ticking now, I hit 28 weeks today and am constantly giving thanks for my easy time so far, and crossing fingers that it stays that way! I've nothing to complain about, not with a straight face anyway- a few aches and restless legs at night aren't really anything serious!
Will have the glucose test and a growth scan Monday, can you tell which I'm dreading and which I'm looking forward to?! Even on a practical level the bloods are a pain- I'm a fainter so will probably have to spend the whole three hours lying down. DH will crack sitting there so long! Looking forward to the scan though, it's nice to see the growth and the changes in the babas each time. They're already looking so much more solid and less transparent than they did at the anomaly scan, at 22 weeks.
I've TEN weeks left!! And we'd nearly be lucky to get that far, average twins show up at 37 weeks!

@volksgirl64: Aww, welcome!
@winniebee: We have lots to do, too. Eep!
@duckduckkristen: Yay! Yay! And I miss exercising--it's been a week since my accident and I haven't been to the gym (well, I'm still limping, so I guess I can't go).
@marriedandlovingit: Happy baby moon--tell us about it.
@aunt pol: What's a growth scan? I want one!
kiwi / 525 posts
@pastemoo: Because its twins they pay a lot more attention to me than they otherwise would- one friend of mine is due a month after me and has had a dating scan only, and doesn't expect any more than that! A growth scan is really what it sounds like- they check the size etc of the babies to make sure they're growing normally. Every three weeks since the anatomy scan, end of January, and after the 2nd of April one I think it goes to every two weeks. Appara twins are supposed to grow pretty much the same as singletons until 30something weeks, and as they run out of space their weight gain slows down. And basically twins are classed as a high risk pregnancy so things are more likely to go wrong. Fingers crossed anyway, we've been fine so far!

@aunt pol: fantastic! Fingers crossed for your sugar test! As someone who failed I can tell you initially there is a lot of guilt/anger/sadness but that all ends when you realize you need to eat well for your precious babies and to keep yourself healthy to be the best mom you can be. I've been eating diabetic since last week and honestly feel amazing.
Next week I have my dietician appt where I'll get my glucometer and also have a non-stress test and growth scan. Since I have GD I am at risk for a larger baby as proof by the 4 weeks ahead of schedule my fundal measurements showed at 28 week. I don't feel huge so hopefully baby skillet is growing perfectly. I'm pretty excited to see her again! Then we have an appt to meet her potential pediatrician and then my shower on March 31 and the. Our birthing class on April 5th! We opted for a 2 and 1/2 hour class rather than the all day or 3 week course.
Man, I can't believe we are all pretty much in the home stretch! 30 weeks feels so bizarre!
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@aunt pol: Oh, well I hope you enjoy the extra scans.
@Nskillet: FOUR weeks ahead? Oh, wow! My friend with GD had her baby 3 weeks early.. at 8lbs 11oz. So, I guess that's about the same. Hope the diet's not too difficult.
kiwi / 525 posts
@pastemoo: @Nskillet: Aha. Maybe that's why I have all the growth scans. At 25 weeks my fundal measurements were indicating 35, and the doc said that's cos twins just don't follow the rules and like to use all available space to leap around. Greedy divils:) So I guess that means without the scans it's very hard for docs to tell what progress twins are making.

@pastemoo: Thanks! I hope I can get some stuff done during my extra time off! I am going to need the time to get things organized around here.
@volksgirl64: Welcome!
@winniebee: Thanks! My BP is better after just a few days of rest, and a couple doses of the meds, so things are looking good! You have some busy weekends coming up! I hope you are finding time to rest!
@duckduckkristen: You sound super busy as well! I think things are amping up for all of us, trying to get everything in before baby comes!
@marriedandlovingit: It sounds like lots of us are trying to squeeze in that one last trip! I hope that you enjoy yours!
@aunt pol: Sounds like you have an exciting week coming up. Good luck with the GD screen and the ultrasound. I feel like I haven't seen my baby in ages, but it has only been 8 weeks.
@Nskillet: I am glad to hear you are settling into your GD diet. I actually like taking my sugars, because it lets me micro-manage my diet, and I like that! I was measuring 4 weeks ahead until this last check-up, now I am only 1 week ahead, it could be the GD diet mixed with my PIH, so I think I will be due for a growth check if baby hasn't grown much by my check this week.

The most frustrating day eeeeeever- was at hosp for 8 am to collect my chart at check in and bring it to perinatal for glucose test at 8.15, as advised to do. Queued for 20 mins to find chart had already been sent down to perinatal. Ok, fair enough. Bloods done at 9.05, 10.05 and 11.10, asked for my chart to bring it to ultrasound where I was due at 11.55. No, chart couldn't be found, told to go on ahead to u/s after getting something to eat, chart would make its own way there whenever it turned up. Ate over in u/s waiting room as nurse said if they could fit me in early they would. They couldn't, u/s was at 12.30. Had a student sitting in on the scan, which of itself was ok, she was nice, but radiographer basically ignored me to instruct student. Then she was cross with me because I didn't know I had to go to twin clinic, apparently I'm supposed to go there every two weeks- news to me! My last time there ( also at the urging of a radiographer) the consultant said they don't need to see me all the time, I'm fine and babies are fine, stop worrying! Gaaah! So I went to check in, where my chart had been all along, then had to insist that I'd been told to see consultant (no appt), told to come back at 1.30. Did so, midwife checked urine and bp, confirmed I've plenty of foetal movement and sent me out to waiting room to queue for consultant. 3.15. Yep. Walked in to office, two students smiling at me while consultant flicked through chart, asked why I hadn't been to see them in a while, insisted I see them every two weeks and kicked me out! I mean she didn't check my belly, she didn't look at me pretty much, just initialled my chart and bye bye now!! Went back to check in to return my chart and make a whole list of twin clinic appointments (which I would bet all I have, will go exactly like that one) and had to explain, twice and slowly, to the secretary how two weeks from today is the 26th and one week from that is the second... Me and DH were like two cats in a sack the whole way home, but it's 5.44 now and I've still had no phone call so fingers crossed I've escaped the GD- somehow!
Sorry for the rant, but I was just so annoyed with the whole thing- its so stupid. My Glucose test could easily have been done at my own doctors office, as could my urine and bp, saving so much time for me, midwife, doctor, and the poor fools filing the charts... Anyone else have a ridiculous day in hospital when there's noting wrong with you but people are stupid?!
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@aunt pol: That does sound frustrating! What a waste of a day. I think most "clinic" type settings have a tendency to be like that, which is why I am working so hard to stick with my high risk OB instead of switching to the high-risk clinic (they try to argue it is easier to be seen in clinic, but there always seem to be confusion and waits, whereas at my OB everything is quick and organized). Fingers crossed that you pass your GD screen, but even it you don't, GD is really not as bad as I thought it would be!
clementine / 959 posts
@aunt pol: that does sound super annoying!
The practice I go to is half midwives and half OBs - the midwives are super laid back while the OBs freak you out about everything! I usually see midwives, but the one time I saw an OB she had me do all sorts of totally unnecessary tests that took all afternoon. At my next appt., I saw a midwife and she thought it was nuts that the OB had me do all those tests when everything was obviously fine! So frustrating!

I'm getting over my temper now, nothing a good dinner, rant and dog walk couldn't fix! And I never got a phone call, so unless something strange went wrong up there and they ring tomorrow, I'm in the clear. I'm going to treat it as a lucky escape though and try to eat better anyway- I've been lazy about veg since first trimester aversion and have to improve that a bit.
The problem here is that the minute the dating scan shows twins, they cover your file in big red Multiple stickers and you're officially High Risk so regulations rule everything from there on.
My strategy from now on, if they're going to insist on my wasting consultants time, is to make sure I have questions to ask and to insist they answer them. If I'm going to queue for two hours then dammit I'm going to get something out of it!
Babas are 2lb14 and 3lb2 now, nicely on target:)

@aunt pol - wow, I can't imagine going through this with twins! Glad to hear everything is going well.
Thanks everyone for the welcome. We head for perinatology tomorrow for a level 2 u/s and I'm just excited to see my girl again. Well, and confirm she's actually a girl. I get paranoid since I can't actually see her.
DH is on spring break this week and should be painting the nursery a nice, light green color! I can't wait to see it!
persimmon / 1099 posts
@volksgirl64: yay nursery painting! DH and I got ours done super early because we've been all about Pre planning this pregnancy and doing things bit by bit instead of procrastinating like we usually do. It's been wonderful!
@aunt Pol ick! So glad that appt is over. I've been dealing with a billing nightmare with a hospital DH and I were taken to after our car accident in October. I can't get over how stupid American insurance claims processing is and how inept the people who do it are! So frustrated, especially since we were the ones hit, had a paid off car destroyed, our witts scared out of us on our one year anniversary by some lunatic drug addict who stole a truck on a police chase. Le sigh.
In other news, is anyone else HUnGRY!? I'm hungry so much more frequently now....is this normal?
clementine / 959 posts
@Nskillet: I am hungry way more often now too! I used to be able to eat dinner and be done for the day, but now I need a pre-bedtime snack and then wake up starving! My belly is getting a lot bigger so I guess baby must be growing well.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@aunt pol: Oh my gosh, what a frustrating day!! So amazed by you getting along so well with twins!
@volksgirl64: Jealous of your ultrasound! We haven't seen baby boy since 19 weeks and I don't have any more ultrasounds scheduled.
@Nskillet: I have woken up really hungry lately! But, I also have not eaten as much during the day - I haven't felt the need to snack lately as I normally do, though I also was recently sick w/ a stomach bug (then cold) so that might have something to do w/ it.
kiwi / 525 posts
Still no phone call, I think I might've dodged the GD bullet!! *happy dance*
apricot / 384 posts
Well, I though it was level 2, but after reading I think it's more of a comprehensive (more in depth) u/s. Basically we're headed for Perinatology tomorrow to look more closely at peanut's heart. We have a history of heart defects so this is just to be safe. I'm not to worried about it, my doctor doesn't seem worried and I'm taking my cue from her.
kiwi / 525 posts
@volksgirl64: Oh very good, more detail is always good. How many weeks are you again? Best of luck tomorrow!
ETA sorry I just realised you're 29/30. Getting there fairly quick!
apricot / 384 posts
U/S went great! She's still a she (it was VERY obvious) and measuring just a few days over but still normal. Heart looks wonderful and we have nothing to worry about.
Even snuck in a few 3-D images for us! So cool to see!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@volksgirl64: Good to hear!
So, is anyone else getting nervous about the birth? I plan on an epi, but who knows what will happen. I know women do it every day and have for eons, but still....I'm nervous. A little over 10 weeks to go and I feel like I can't stop feeling anxious about it. Anyone else?
persimmon / 1099 posts
@winniebee: Me! It's total fear of the unknown that mixed with day dreaming about what finally meeting this amazing little person will really be like. What will my husband be like? Will we be naturals? Will we have unexpected complications? When will I actually go into labor. I guess I'm finally understanding the whole 3rd trimester "done" feeling. I don't physically feel that way but mentally do 100%
All of us have imagined what will happen in the next 8-10 weeks for ages and it's finally happening!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Nskillet: You put it well. I think the biggest "what if's" are (1) WHEN is going to happen - like, week 36 or week 41 - I need to know! (2) will I be able to get that blessed epidural (3) what will my baby be like!?!?! (4) will we be naturals (5) how is my husband going to handle it all. Ok, the list goes on and on. It's no wonder I can't sleep at night!
kiwi / 525 posts
Yep, the fretting is starting here too- exactly nine weeks left until they haul my ass in to get the babas out- 38 weeks on the button, 17th may. No overdue carry on with twins, which I guess I should feel grateful for, but I also want the babas to have the benefit of being inside as long as possible!
I'm more or less head-in-sand about the actual delivery, I think I'd just upset myself if I thought about it too much! I'm a wimp with pain and you just hear so many horror stories:( Fingers crossed we all have safe and (relatively) easy deliveries!
persimmon / 1099 posts
Welp, tomorrow is my big hospital appt. Wish me luck that my sugars are controllable by diet alone!! I guess they have me eat healthy foods and check my blood sugars at the hospital. I also have a non stress test and ultrasound to check baby girls size and how she is doing so far. I also have to turn in my glorious 24hour urine sample, let me tell you catching every drop of your pee os over-rated!!
grapefruit / 4056 posts
I haven't been as active on updating about my complications on here, but I am doing the PIH battle as well as managing my GD with diet now. I am kind of week by week on wether I can work or not, I just got a reprieve for one more week, so I have 3 more shifts ahead of me before we re-asses. My BP's are up and down, so I use labetelol based on my home BP readings, and I am about 50:50 on needing it right now.
Unfortunately I had a bad BP readings at my OB, so this week I had a bunch more bloodwork, and a urinalysis, and I have an NST/BPP friday, and then a growth ultrasound on Monday to see how baby is doing. I am excited to see how big baby is now!
@volksgirl64: Yay! Glad to hear your US went well.
@winniebee: Yes and no, I think I am in denial about the whole birth thing LOL. My complications have given me other things to focus on. I think I am mostly just feeling like nothing I can do now will change my labour experience really, how/when the baby is born is really so out of our hands!
@Nskillet: Good luck with your appointment! I find it odd that they don't have you tracking sugars already, the first thing I got after I got my GD diagnosis was a glucometer and instructions for checking sugars 4x per day. I do that and email it in weekly. I actually love knowing my sugar based on everything I am eating, it is so re-assuring to see the numbers.
persimmon / 1099 posts
@MsMini: I was surprised about not being given a glucometer instantly too but they filled a script for the needles/test strips and have the glucometer waiting for me tomorrow. Basically, I requested the diet early and was provided what to and not to eat and have been strictly adhering to that. Tomorrow will begin my glucometer testing 4x a day. Have your levels been normal? I have great fasting glucose it was just the sugar test that made me sky rocket. Im curious how actual food will go!
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@Nskillet: My sugars have been awesome, I actually have a big of an issue with low fasting sugars and passing ketones in the morning, so I have to eat a carb heavy snack at bedtime. My post-meal sugars have all been awesome. I am really feeling optimistic that I will be able to avoid insulin (which is good, because my hospital as an automatic 2 hour admission to NICU for all babies whose moms need insulin to monitor their sugars and electrolytes.)
persimmon / 1099 posts
@MsMini: no kidding. Im really hoping mine is just diet/exersice controlled. Ive also been walking 30 minutes a day on my breaks. Ive been very very mindful of carbs, I hope I havent been eating too few but it almost seems like you cant win. Too many or too little. So, we would need insulin and not a hyperglucemic type drug like metformin? I guess I dont know how this works after all haha.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
@Nskillet: They use insulin because it is known to be safe throughout pregnancy, metformin hasn't been studied beyond the 1st trimester, they are in process of studying it now, but it will likely be years before it is approved for use for GD (I looked into it because I used it for PCOS and took it through the 1st trimester to reduce chances of MC)
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@Nskillet and MsMini Good luck not needing insulin!
Anyone allergic to spring? I can;t tell if I got my husband's cold, or allergies, or both. I really wish I could just call out sick. :(@MsMini: enjoy the scan--should be cool! What is PIH?
@winniebee: hahahh i am so curious when it will be too!
@volksgirl64: awesome! glad you got to see her in 3-d.
cantaloupe / 6146 posts
@duckduckkristen: that's a bummer. did the ob give you a reason for all the extra tests?
clementine / 959 posts
@winniebee: Definitely starting to get anxious! Sometimes I feel like I'm so ready to meet the baby and hope the next 8 weeks go by fast, other times my fear of the unknown makes me want to just stay pregnant forever!
@pastemoo: I've been congested the last couple months, but this week, now that the flowers are all blooming, it's gotten a lot worse.
The OB did all those tests because I had some bleeding from sex (which is totally normal). She had me get blood tests and a u/s of my cervix, then wanted me to get another u/s every 2 to 3 weeks even though my cervix was 5 cm and everything was totally normal, plus had me go to a perinatalogist for my anatomy scan instead of just going to my husband's practice (he's a radiologist). Oh and she had me get rhogam at 18 weeks (I'm A-) and now no one at the practice seems to know when to give it to me again since they don't usually do it until 28 weeks. uhhgg.
