Giovanni Matthias was born vaginally at 11:28 pm on May 4 after 16 hours of labor, no epi! That was tough! Will update more soon. DH kept notes so I'll likely do a birth story
He is so adorable and we are so in love! See pictures in next few posts. Data service is pretty bad at the hospital so I had to attach them one by one!

@Glitter: congratulations! He is gorgeous! And way to go with no epi for 16 hours! Tough mama. I look forward to reading his birth story.

@twodoghouse: @tarabonno: @Glitter: Congratulations!!! All of your babies are perfect and beautiful!
What a busy weekend the May mamas around here had! I wish I had the same news to give. Instead I'm sitting at work on my due date. I had a friend with the same due date as me have her baby on Saturday via planned c-section (baby was breach). I'm so jealous of that you all have your babies - I want to meet my son! I was super busy this weekend unpacking and running out to stores and finally having some alone time with DH after living with his parents that hopefully I have gotten things moving. I was up a part of the night with some bad cramping and yesterday walking around I had the sharp pains in the cervix area so I'm thinking my time is coming soon

@mrsog: I hope you go soon!!! Sounds like a nice weekend, hopefully the last sans baby
So, I had my post-date appointment today and it was a bit disappointing. I was really hoping for a membrane sweep but I wasn't dilated enough. I was "not quite a 1" and she tried to stretch me a little but couldn't get a sweep done. She did say that my cervix was soft and in a good position, and that I was 50% effaced though, so all that sounded good. Oh also the baby's head was at -2 station... which I don't quite remember what that means but I feel I remember thats not the least it can be... so sounded good to me lol.
She of course reminded me that dilation isn't necessarily a predictor of oncoming labor and I could still go soon even though I'm not very dilated yet (but I was very glad I opted to wait until today for a cervical check bc if I'd been the same last week as this week I'd be discouraged, I prefer to believe that I was 0/0 last week and made progress haha). And she thought that all the BH and crampiness I've been having are good signs anyways.
Induction scheduled for the night of 5/16, just in case. But fingers crossed I don't get anywhere near there!

@Mae: that is still quite a ways off! I hope she comes before then. I have my appt tomorrow to discuss an end date, if necessary. I think he may come this week though - I feel much different than I did last week at this time.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: I hope so! For both of us! I also feel like the past week (particularly since Friday, really) I've felt different than previous. But I think I'm trying not to really believe she could be here soon because the let-down each day is too big then. But ugh I want her here within the next week! I just got my call telling me my schedule of appointments for next Monday if she's not yet arrived. Drive all the way across town for an 8am ultrasound to check amniotic fluid, then all the way back across town for a 10:30 non stress test, then 11:30 midwife appointment. I'd really rather be home snuggling my baby than spending half my day driving around to appointments!

@twodoghouse: @Glitter: Gorgeous babies! Congratulations!
What an exciting weekend. It seemed like every time I checked on here someone had posted baby pics!
@Mae: Hang in there girl. I was only 2 days late with my first but I remember that let-down every morning waking up still pregnant. It's going to be over so soon!

I've been feeling so menstrual-crampy today. Ugh. But I'm not having any more contractions than usual, so I figure it's not related to labor. It just feels super uncomfortable.
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: My midwives keep telling me that the period cramp type feelings I've been having are working to get my uterus/cervix ready for labor. Although I've been having them for like a week and I"m less than a 1 so it seems like they aren't doing too much for me haha.

So I had my 37 week appoiment today. My amniotic fluid level is low so that's something else to monitor. Basically, I have to drink a gallon of water a day, rest, and try not to spend too much time outside. If it's still low next week, we may be having baby Leo a week earlier than expected!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: I've been getting the weekly ultrasounds for my GD. It was a 6 and my doctor said she doesn't like below 5. She asked if I was outside a lot this weekend, which I was. It could just be from that and not drinking enough water.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: ah, good thing they are watching closely and hopefully it is just an anomaly! I don't know why but I'm sort of paranoid about low amniotic fluid. I guess just because I've heard of a lot of ppl having that and I haven't had an u/s since 24 weeks. And I'm measuring behind at this point (which I know can be an indicator of it)... but the midwives think that is just because baby has dropped down. (I'm 38 weeks at 40.1)
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: I understand the worry! Another thing she mentioned is to make sure I feel regular movement. So I think as long as you are feeling the baby move, it's a good sign!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: yes, I am also super paranoid about that! lol. They ask at every appointment but the last 2 they have been very insistent that I pay attention to movement and call if I stop feeling regular movement. Which is a super awesome way to make an already sort of anxiety-prone person more anxious. Because a person can drive themselves crazy trying to figure out how much movement is "enough" or "normal" and whether she is just sleeping or in distress. She's gotten poked a LOT in the last week because I get freaked out if I don't feel her for a while and poking her makes her move lol.

@Glitter: @Tarabonno: Congrats to both of you ladies!! What beautiful babes!!! I love that every time I check our board, there's always such exciting news and impossible cuteness.
@Mae: Ugh, tell me about it. I also am prone to the anxiety. I curse aloud when she kicks my front-butt all evening long, but then as soon as she isn't moving, I start to freak out that she isn't okay and that she's in distress. It's kind of a no-win situation right now.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: I understand that too! I am a bit of an anxious person! Sorry to tell you it gets worse after they are born! I drove myself crazy at first wondering if DS ate enough, slept enough, etc. I'm way better about it now, but the first months were hard for me. I hope I'm more laid back this time.
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: @Mamasig: Glad I am not alone! I blame my mother, she's such a worry wart haha. I have actually been pretty surprised that I've been very chill (until recently) through pregnancy and didn't have a single "omg I'm worried" call or visit to my doc/midwives. I think I just have this post-date fear that is probably unfounded? Mostly because several of my good friends had to be induced after 40 but before 41 due to fetal issues (low amniotic fluid, failing a stress test, placental breakdown) and because I'm not having any of my "is baby okay?" testing until 41.1 I have this worry that something is wrong in there and I just don't know it because I chose a hands-off practice. But I think my sample group is just skewed towards bad luck and there is just no reason to think LO isn't fine so I need to chill.
@gingerblonde: lol EXACTLY. I feel like she spends half the time kicking me so hard I'm gasping and the other half of the time sleeping and freaking me out. Every time I get pummeled I try to remember to be thankful that I know she is okay. And STRONG. lol.
cherry / 184 posts
@Mae: That's exactly what I keep telling myself. My mantra when she starts to hurt is "at least you know she's healthy and happy in there..." Even so, I think it's only natural, especially in your case as you have passed your due date, to feel freaked out, whether or not you have "reason". I too have tried to be the girl who doesn't call the office with every little concern, but... as the due date draws near, my anxieties heighten. Odds are she is fine, but erring on the side of caution could never be bad at this stage in the game!
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: Yea. I mean really the only thing I would/could even call about is fetal movement. But I know what they are going to say-- it's not like they can tell me over the phone if she is okay so if I'm worried I need to head to L&D for monitoring. And I'm always 95% sure I'm just being a paranoid nutcase. Which so far as been true bc by all accounts she is fine and within a few hours of whenever I get worried she's always back to kicking again! This last few weeks is just not fun.

@Mamasig: I hope the low fluid is only because of your busy weekend! Does it sound like they will want to induce if it stays the same or just if it drops down to 5?
@Mae: I haven't asked the midwives to check me because I don't want to know if my cervix is closed up tight! I am nervous that they also won't be able to do a membrane sweep at my appointment this week. I've been pretty crampy the past few days and have tons of BH with what feels like some real contractions mixed in so I'm hoping that I've made at least a little progress.
@mrsog: Fingers crossed that your little guy makes his appearance this week!
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: That was exactly my thoughts re: skipping the cervical checks until 40 weeks. And I'm really glad I did! They offered last week at 39 and if I'd been 1cm and 50% effaced then and made no progress to this week I'd have totally been bummed. Not that I'm not a little bummed anyways but I choose to believe that had they checked me last week I would've been 0cm/0effaced and that I have actually made progress

@Glitter: Congratulations!!! He is gorgeous!
@tarabonno: Congratulations! So beautiful
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@skipra: I'm having a repeat c section which was scheduled for 39 weeks. So I'd be moving it up a week. I think we are ok if it stays the same. I do really think it's from being a bit dehydrated. On the weekends, I find I don't take care of myself enough chasing after DS and not drinking enough.

@tarabonno: Congrats!! I had been thinking about you (and mean to message after I see pinterest stuff )What a cutie, hope she, and you are doing well!!
@Glitter: Eeee, congrats too!! How cute is he, glad he has arrived and hope you are all doing well!!
@cookie_dough: How was day #1 of (official!) mat leave?! I just got my EI stuff done today, as I was on vacay up to Friday technically. Returned my phone and computer today too, I'm free! lol.
@mrsog: Glad you seem to be getting settled! Unpacking, and settling in, and on alone time!!
@Mae: Eee about induction date!! Will be interesting to see if you get there, I am thinking no!
I am definitely still not well over here, but haven't stopped eating, and definitely paying for it, sucker for punishment I guess?
I was just catching up on reading here, and was updating DH on the babies born, as I read the Penguins scored (nhl playoffs for anyone not into hockey!) and he was like "yeahhhhh!!!!!!" all intense and loud. He was like "yayyyy for May babies, that's how excited I am". I near peed myself laughing, nice try, but cute effort.
So.....who's next?! Hard to know based on calendar, (thanks for posting/updating @Mae: ) with some May Momma's who haven't visited in here in a while!
Had a busy day today, hung out ay DDs daycare for a bit when I dropped her off, then to work for a bit, walked the dog at work around a small trail and pond, then home, sat for an hour watching tv, then spent 3 hours outside washing the car inside and out, and swept the garage. Then fuelled up car, annnnd as I was pumping gas I cried because I thought about it being the last time I pump gas as a Mom of one (I fill up only every 2w or so, haha). Hormones much? Took dog for another walk, and then DH and DD were home around 4. Made dinner while he bathed her after her dinner, and juuuust sat down. I could fall asleep right here, right now, but have this odd want to go out for ice cream or something!! I probably won't do it, I shouldn't!
Counselling, and pedicure tomorrow....solid combo, haha. Maybe I will get waxed too.

Thanks, everyone! I was looking at the first pages of our comments before clicking back to this page and got a little teary. It's been quite the journey.
@Mae - my contractions felt like period cramps the whole time, but the most excruciating ones that I've ever had, and I have bad ones. I will say that when people say, "You'll know when they're real," they're right. If you are questioning whether or not they're real, at least in my experience, they aren't yet. You'll know. Man will you freaking know!!
Can't wait to hear about all the other May babies!!
