wow, it's hard to keep up with this thread when you aren't sitting at your desk at work all day! First official day of maternity leave was productive but exhausting! Got some house work done, and had my 38 week appointment...which ended up being pretty awkward! The OB came in and was like "so I'm checking you today?" I said sure...why not. So he put down this folded up thing on the exam table and said "I'll be right back", but I had no clue if that meant I should get ready for the exam, or if he really meant he would just be right back and we would discuss further. So I just sat there in the chair waiting, and when he came back he was like "uhhhh, what's going on?". I guess I WAS supposed to be getting ready for the exam hahaha. Super awkwardddd. I was totally expecting to change into a gown like I do at my GP...but the folded up thing was literally just like a paper table cloth. Anyways, he did the exam and said I'm low but not open at all A bit disappointing, but there's still lots of time. I was totally having
BH contractions yesterday for the first time though!

@cookie_dough: oh man that does sound awkward! That is how my appointments always are at my OB though unless I'm getting a breast exam. Bottomless and just covered with a sheet (they do give me an actual cloth sheet rather than a paper one at least). I had my first cervical exam yesterday and the positioning was so awkward! lol At least she warned/acknowledged it though. She had me lay back on the table and do the "butterfly position" with my legs and then I had to hold my ass up with my hands.... so weird haha. If I make it to 41 I'm honestly considering throwing my yoga block in my purse to put under my butt so I don't have to try to balance on my fists like that. (does that make me a weirdo?)
Congrats on the BH though!

@Beebug: Hope you start feeling better! I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that I will NOT be next. I feel like the midwife won't even be able to do a membrane sweep at my appointment on Thursday.
@cookie_dough: Happy maternity leave! That is an awkward appointment. That's how those visits are for me too, but they usually tell you, "strip from the waist down and cover yourself with this." Normally they leave so you can get dressed afterwards but with my last midwife she would just stay in the room while I was dressing and the room was so tiny. It was really uncomfortable.
@Mae: Ugh I totally forgot about having to get into that super awful butterfly position. Lovely...something else to look forward too!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mae: hahaha oh wow! That position does not sound like fun! Yoga block for sure
@Skipra: ok that would be so awkward if they stayed in the room while you are trying to get dressed! I would wear a dress every time...that way you are already basically dressed when you stand up hahaha
nectarine / 2527 posts
@cookie_dough: just jumping in I like to check this board to see when a new LO will arrive but anyways in my last few weeks I would just wear dresses or skirts to my appts to make it easier even though my MW left when I got dress/undress
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: oo good call on a dress. I never wore them before because I didn't get cervical checks so all I had to do was lift up my shirt to get measured/doppler. But if I make it to 41 I will totally wear a dress so I can just ditch the undies and pull the sheet over me. Also could help with the weight gain thing, as a dress has got to weigh less than the jeans I always wear. I gained 3 lbs (they say) between my last appt and this one. HOW?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
A dress would be so smart, but I am too wimpy to wear one in this weather, just not warm enough to go without tights yet and I feel like tights would defeat why to wear a dress, hmmm...
Our neighbours next door have landscapers here as of this am, so much noise, so glad this is getting done before baby! I have some beef's with what they are doing between our houses, but really have no say.
My pedi for today was just cancelled, and I just filled it with an appt at the bank, pedi tomorrow now.
I feel like I could have a nap right now, may not be a bad idea!!
@skipra: lol on not being next, I am sure it won't be me either!! Part of me has the May 8th date they have from the dating us as my edd, so now thinking maybe it will be a week after that! The 15th! Little bit of late, but not too much?
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@cookie_dough: Umm best idea ever to wear a dress or skirt! I don't know why I never thought of that. In fact I probably did wear one and just took it off (skirt, not dress).
@Beebug: So I think @Mae: and I will have inductions on the 16th if we make it that long. Maybe all 3 of us will have babies that day! I am hoping we'll all have them in our arms before then but if not it would be a busy baby day.

So many congratulations to all the beautiful new moms and precious babies @The_Bees_Knees @CheseToMyWhine @Tarabonno @TwoDogHouse and @Glitter
Our little girl, Juniper, was born at 11:15am 5/1! She was a tiny 6lbs 14oz. What a crazy, wonderful time the last few days have been.
I went to the hospital Wednesday night to begin the induction process & prepare to receive pitocin staring 7am the next morning. The ripening agent induced super strong contractions through the night to the point I can honestly say it was the worst pain of my life & by 7am I received an epidural. By 10am I was dilated to 10. My dr was convinced I had an hour of pushing to do so she left for lunch. However, after 8 practice pushes with the nurse she yelled "don't push!" And proceeded to voice text my dr: "crowning!". I could tell Juni was coming no matter what. I tried not to push but seconds later she gracefully flopped into the world so quickly that the dr didn't even make it to the delivery room. Thank goodness for our extremely skilled and professional delivery nurse! Juniper was placed on my chest & DH cut her cord. The birth was not at all what I expected but I wouldn't change a thing.
We came home Saturday afternoon after a few sleepless nights in the hospital. It's so nice to be home though sleep is still at a minimum.
A couple things that have surprised me about postpartum:
- mommy emotions are even crazier than I expected. I cried nearly the whole drive home from the hospital bc I was so happy.
- breast feeding/establishing milk supply (for me) is even harder than I was prepared for or could have imagined. You get this tiny human that you're told to "feed" every 2-3 hours. But you don't yet have any milk and it hurts like all get out and you're worried you're starving your child. My milk finally came in Sunday night and I think bf-is going to work out for us but it is mentally and physically demanding to the max. I'd 100% recommend to any 1st time mom to see a lactation consultant while in the hospital and don't leave till you have a good latch & some confidence.
- Being selfish is ok! I remember @Mae had concerns for visitors after coming home from the hospital. I was worried about this too. By Saturday evening at home I was so over having both or our moms and my dad lounging in our living room that I just went to the bedroom and asked DH to have them leave. Of course, I felt super guilty and I'm sure I hurt some feelings but I knew it was right for our new family to have a night alone to figure each other out and I think it made all the difference for us.
So excited for all of you waiting for your littles! Hope your waiting is peaceful and labors a breeze.

@Beebug: boo to canceled pedi! I was considering booking one for this week but I was cheap and decided I could do it at home. Except I really couldn't (so out of breath after taking my nail polish off from bending over). So I had my husband paint my toes last night... and omg lol. He tried really hard. But he'd never painted toenails before and my feet are sort of a mess. I'm hoping that most of the polish on my skin washes off in the shower this morning.
@skipra: that would be a busy day! Really hope LO makes her entrance before that.... sigh. lol

@MRSHONEYBEAR: Congratulations! I love her name. And don't feel guilty about needing time for yourself, it's not about them -- it's about you and the baby.
papaya / 10343 posts
@MRSHONEYBEAR: gahhhh congratulations!!! She is precious!!! So happy your milk came in and you're starting to get the hang of things, and that it sounds like your induction went really well! And I will try to keep in mind about being selfish-- we did establish a plan to be alone the first 2 weeks but if she isn't born until she's induced that won't be possible anymore so I'm definitely going to have to adapt and figure out which option stresses me out the least!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@skipra: lol that could be a busy baby day!!
@MRSHONEYBEAR: omg how cute is she!! I am so happy you came by and checked in!!! Love the post partum talk and what you didn't expect, man I forget about all those wacky emotions, but could totally relate with what you wrote.
@Mae: lol/aww on DH trying! I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't using a giftcard from Feb 2013 birthday gift from DH for a spa I haven't used! Same spot I went and got the big hair chop from, I don't think DH will buy me something like this ever again, haha....nearly a year and a half later and I still don't think it will be used up!

Hi all! I haven't posted for a long time, but I've definately been following this thread! Congrats to all the new moms and looking forward to all the new births coming up
As for me, my little guy arrived on May 3rd(due date was May 4th). Definately thought he would be early since I was a week and a half early with my first son, but he stuck it out almost to the end! Lol. The day before he was born I had a final doctors appointment and I had her do a membrane sweep. The procedure itself didn't hurt, but the cramping that resulted a couple of hours later was SO bad. I ended up going into labor and delivery to be monitored as I was bleeding a lot as well. I stayed there for a few hours and the cramping wasn't dilating me at all so they sent me home. They finally stopped at about 11p that night. The next morning I woke up and the cramping started again at around 830. I thought it was the same cramping as the day before, but before long it was apparent I was in labor. Holy crap, it was terrifying and the worst pain I have ever felt. We had to wait for my mom to get to my house to watch my son and then we took off for the hospital. I must have been a sight for the other drivers on the road..moaning, screaming and writhing in pain in the back seat! Got to the hospital and was at 6cm, it took forever to get an epidural. They had some issues getting it in and I had to sit still through a couple of monster contractions..not cool! Finally got it in and about 10 minutes later there was a huge pop and my water broke. I immediately needed to push, doctor checked me and I was complete. Pushed for 6 minutes, maybe 6-7 pushes total and Brady Louis entered the world! 8lb 9oz and 20.5 inches long..he looked like a giant compared to my first who was 6lb 15oz at birth!
Oh and my placenta didn't come out on its own and I was bleeding a little too much so the doctor had to reach in and pull it out...not very pleasant!!
We are home now and settling in to our new family of 4 routine. Big brother loves him and is so curious about him...this was something I was definately nervous about and it's going so well so far!
Here is a pic of Brady and his big brother Luke

@MRSHONEYBEAR: @Smar11: congratulations ladies on your beautiful babies. Both of your posts made me tear up just remembering what it's like.
I had my 37/38 week appt yesterday. I had my dr check me because I want to go to my bros college graduation this weekend which is 3 hours away. I was still closed up tight so I think we are going to go. I have a feeling I may be one of the last to go. Just found out my dr will be on vaca the next 2 weeks so I'm fine being later so hopefully she will be back if I have to be induced again. Can't wait to hear who's next.

@Smar11: yay congrats!!! So adorable!
@sungirl: I hope you have fun at the graduation!

Hi guys! We're currently at the hospital waiting for an L&D room. Turns out they think I have a slow leak. When they checked my fluid levels were low so they've decided to keep us. I'm already 4 cm dilated and I'm having contractions. They're kind of painful but don't seem to be getting worse. They' e been letting me walk and walk to try and get things moving, but if they don't move along soon they're going to start the pitocin. So it looks like one way or another we're having a baby sometime today. Exciting, but very different from when I went into labor w/DD. Excited to meet this little one though!

I have my ECV in the morning to try to turn this little nugget around! I'm apparently anxious about it because I totally melted down on my husband earlier...ugh.

Hey May mommas! I miss you all and keep checking here for pics!
Life has become so hectic..in the best possible way. Giovanni is doing well. He's alert and greedy, though we have been having some latch issues we're working through them. I'm recovering nicely also. Can't wait to find the time to do the birth story and share with you all!
I'm totally obsessed with this little guy so please bear with my over willingness to share more pics.
Come on May babies!! I'm excited to meet the rest of you!

@MRSHONEYBEAR: congrats!!! what a beautiful name, and beautiful baby I totaly cried all the way home from the hospital when i had DD, but out of sheer terror and stress hahaha
@Smar11: congrats! what an great picture of the brothers together...too cute
@caity713: hope the ECV went/is going ok! And great bump pic!
@Beebug: LOL on the spa gift card. I've had one in my wallet for about 6 years that I've never used!!!
@Glitter: there can never be too many baby pictures Love the wool booties!!!
Nothing new to report here other than I think I've started losting/lost my mucus plug...woo hoo! I know it's not a sign of impending labour or anything, but at least it means my body is doing SOMETHING. I'm drinking red raspberry leaf tea now and I'm going to start sitting on my exercise ball this evening!

@Glitter: he is absolutely adorable!! Loving the pics! So glad things are going well for you!!
@cookie_dough: yay glad things are happening! I'm feeling the same way. I think I started having real (if mild) contractions yesterday, as they definitely felt different than anything before (more sharp period cramp-y, a little bit painful, and definitely clench-y but only lasting 30 seconds or so). But they're so sporadic and I only had like 5 all day that I know it could still be a while. But still. Anything NEW is exciting.

@Mae: yay, fingers crossed that the contractions start picking up and that Fiona will be here in the next few days

I think I am going to pick up some RRL tea today! I feel ready, lol. I just went to the hospital to finallllly drop off my pre-admission forms! I saw my fave nurse from when I was as there with DD from afar, I hope I get her again at some point! I cried entering the hospital, total wave of emotions thinking about going there to leave with another baby! I called DH crying, haha poor guy and my emotions.
Dropped the dog at groomer, waiting to get waxed now, massage at 11, pedicure at 1245, weekly doc appt at 4, busy! But good busy I think!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: sounds like a great day!
Also yay for all the tea drinkers Is it weird I've actually really developed a taste for it? I look forward to my several glasses/day. And it's weird because I have NEVER been an iced tea drinker. But I'm already thinking as soon as I'm done with the RRL tea I'm going to experiment with some other tea/juice combos this summer!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I found the tea really yummy! But I addicted to raspberries in any form possible so that May have something to so with it!? Me and my frozen raspberries right now is nearly a problem, ha!
Anything frozen, sign me up!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: I don't feel like the kind I have actually tastes much like raspberries? But I've been making a strong iced tea and flavoring it with no sugar added cranberry juice, and I think it's super tasty. I'm thinking this summer I might try some regular black tea with various other fruits like maybe peach nectar? mmm
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I don't think it really does either, but there's just a hint of it sometimes I think!
I definitely love my tea, but never venture far from regular orange pekoe tea or earl grey!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: I always hated tea but started drinking it hot about 1.5 years ago. I like Trader Joe's cinnamon vanilla black tea (this was my gateway tea I got at Christmas 2 years ago) and chai, or anything flavored like fruit. But I always found iced tea too bitter. But I think I just needed to get used to it and now I actually really like it. Plus as a former pop addict I am really enjoying drinking something other than water throughout the day! I feel like iced tea gives me the same satisfaction drinking pop did, but I don't feel guilty about it because it's caffeine free and the only sugar in it is from a tiny bit of fruit juice (I do a 4:1 ratio for tea:juice)
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Waxing = done! Now I'm really ready, haha! I was scared for this time because it hurt SO bad last time I got done, and it so wasn't that bad this time! The lady is so sweet, I was feeling self conscious about my down there varicose veins, but she so must see it all because she didn't make any mention of it and got it done, lol. My eyebrows are crazy red though, weird!

@Smar11: @MRSHONEYBEAR: Congratulations! Such beautiful babies!!!! It's so great to hear your updates
@Keds: Good luck. I hope all is well and you are holding your newest LO!
@caity713: Good luck! Hope the ECV is successful!
@Glitter: Oh he is just perfect! Congrats again!
@Mae: I hope those contractions mean Fiona is planning to make her appearance very soon! I started having those type of contractions a few days ago and they just totally went away. Now I'm barely even having BH any more. It's like this like guy decided to unpack his bags and stay a while. Boo
Today's my official due date and I am officially ready to get this baby out. I took DS for a 4 mile walk today and probably about 3 miles yesterday. Sex, pineapple, RRL, EPO, etc... and it feels like I am less likely to go into labor now than a week ago. Curious to see what the midwife will say tomorrow. I am wondering if baby is just in a bad position and can't or won't get into a good one. It feels like he goes between my right side and total sunny side up position, neither of which I think are good?

Hi everyone! So, we were unable to try the ECV. They did an ultrasound and my fluid was a bit low so they decided not to attempt it. It wasn't dangerously low so I just have to go back on Monday for a fluid check. If it has dropped, I'll have a c-section then. Otherwise, it'll be a c-section later next week. I should have a date and time later on today. I'm kind of disappointed but at least I have a better sense of the plan, even if it is a c-section.
