@junebugmama: I'm sorry I'm a bit traumatized as well. I actually thought the section itself and initial recovery were not as bad as expected.. But I'm not handling this complication well at all and it makes the whole thing sort of traumatic for me.

@junebugmama: Your pictures are beautiful. Jace looks so sweet. I'm so sorry to hear about your c section. I know that's not at all how you wanted labor to go.

@Mae: I hate that you and your husband are having to deal with incision problems. This is supposed to be a time to get to know your LO and it doesn't seem fair that you're having to deal with all the unpleasantness of the incision issues instead!

Sorry I'm having to post multiple posts in a row! It's hard to reply to people on the last page on my phone!

@Glitter: He is so darling! Love the pics. We are cloth diapering too - well, sort of. My DS is still very tiny so we haven't started with him. My DD is 7 lbs now so we've been trying out cloth diapers in the afternoons. So far so good, but I feel far from ready to go full time with it!

@gingerblonde: She is too cute! I love her perfect hair. My DD is mostly bald on top and growing an adorable mullet in the back, haha.

At our ped appt yesterday we decided to put Blake in Zantac for reflux. We are going to see how it goes with him and maybe put Alice on it too. Right now they just spit up so much and the ped wants Blake to keep as many calories in his belly as possible because he's still not on the growth chart at 5 lb 14 oz at almost 4 weeks old. I think our ped loves the idea of "experimenting" on our twins, as we are trialing the Zantac with B before giving it to A. Also am cutting out dairy to see if it helps A's meltdowns in the evening. Of course I had just made a big batch of lactation cookies that include butter! So I'm eating those then going dairy free after that.

I'm so sorry to hear about so many frustrations with c-section complications and fussy little ones. I feel so fortunate that my incision has healed well. I'm still very anxious to be back to feeling 100% but I know that won't be for a while!

Little one has been playing around with her eating schedule lately. From Wed night through yesterday evening, she basically ate almost constantly. Then, last night, she accidently slept five hours before I woke up and realized how much time had passed. Given her past track record, I hadn't even bothered to set an alarm!! We shall see what the rest of today holds!!

For those who say their lo eats constantly.. How often do you offer? I'm wondering if I should feed more in the afternoons. I feel like lo would eat 24/7 if I let her. She almost never pops off on her own. I generally let her go 30-40 min per side then pull her off. In the afternoon/evening she often comes off crying or starts within 5 min. And she mouths 24/7.

@junebugmama: so sorry to hear about the c section. As if taking care of 3 LOs is not enough.

Sorry can't respond to everyone from the last page. Posting from my phone as the laptop is totally dead now. I loooove all the baby pics. You ladies make some serious cuties!

@Mae: sounds like you are having a tough introduction to mommyhood. All i can say is that even though it is really difficult now it will get easier.

@caity713: is she back up to her birth weight? Our doctor said no need to wake up during the night now that our little guy is over his. He usually goes about 4-5 hours at night.

@twodoghouse: good luck with the zantac and diet change. I had to give up dairy last time and there was a noticeable difference in DS's sleep. He was the worst sleeper because of gas prior to that.

  7. caity713

    coffee bean / 48 posts

@skipra: she was just at her birth weight at her two week appointment (6lbs 15 oz). Given that she had spent the entire day eating, I'm not so concerned that she went such a long stretch, I just want to make sure she's getting what she needs since she's still a little peanut!

Today she's been back at the frequent snacking though she's been asleep for about an hour now. I'm sure she'll wake up ravenous soon!

Gah, what a day. MRI this morning, this aft I was at another hospital visiting my stepdads Mom, she said most I her goodbyesast night, she may pull through, but looks so frail. C was a good boy through it all, but I'm tired!

  9. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: C pops himself off usually around 15min or so, but I pretty much let him eat whenever he "asks" at this point. In a few weeks I will work on stretching him out and schedule it a bit, for now.....boob whenever he wants! In the night he is pretty much 3 hours on the nose when he wakes to eat, and that is always his longest stretch!

  10. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

@Mae: I feed on demand. He nurses for maybe 45 minutes or so. Every 2 hours, with one 5hr stretch at night. So I get a little over an hour in between feedings.

I fed Jax on demand too until he weaned. He nursed 12 times a day or so, but for no more than 10 minutes, so not a big deal to me.

  11. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

C has this all over his face, any ideas? Is it from me?

It's on both cheeks, only thing I can think of is his cheeks against my boobs?

Can babies just get acne? Seems silly even saying that.

  12. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

@Beebug: All babies get acne actually Doctors think it's from the mothers hormones "acting out" in the babies bodies, as males tend to be more apt to get it. It usually will come and go until a baby is about a month old. You can't really do anything to treat it, but sometimes a little breast milk dabbed on it will take away the redness

We're so quiet! I guess everyone is in the thick of newborn-hood!

    I have a happy update!

So, first, I had a follow-up appt today for my c-section wound and it is finally healing faster! It was 4cm deep 2 weeks ago, 3.5cm deep 1 week ago, and only 1.5cm deep today! So it is giving me hope that it may actually be healed (or close to it) in another week or two. Fingers crossed!

Second, I had an awesome appointment with the LC today!!! Fiona was only up to 8lb 5oz today at 2w6d, which is up only 2 oz from last week and only 1oz above birth weight--- so the LC said she is certain that our issue is low supply and that she is just hungry all the time. Obviously I feel horrible that she has been hungry for the last 2 weeks and that is why she's been so cranky... but I'm so glad to have a problem I can FIX. We did a weighted feed and my supply isn't horrible but just isn't enough. So the LC is having me feed on demand and after I'm done nursing give her any pumped breastmilk I have if she still seems hungry and then supplement with formula if she still seems hungry after that. And I also need to start pumping after most feeds to get my supply up. So it means a lot of work this week since we're back to basically 3 types of feeding (breastfeed, bottle of beast milk, bottle of formula) + pumping... but after doing it today we had almost no screaming! She was actually happy when she was done eating and we had some awake and happy time for the first time in 2 weeks! I'm going to see the LC again in a week and hopefully we can get my supply up so I can go back to just breast-feeding her... but even if I'm unable to do that and we have to keep combo feeding I'm just so happy that we seem to have figured out the cause of all the screaming!

@Mae: great news!! I'm so happy for you, both for the healing progress of your cut, and finally for a solution to Fiona's crankiness! Must be a great relief because I know you and DH must have tried everything.

  19. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Glitter: yes!! It was so validating for the lc to acknowledge there was a problem. I'm not sure why the ped was not concerned with her 1oz weight gain last week.. But I totally felt like she blew us off all "umm yea babies cry". So, happy to have a hopeful answer! It's inly been 1 day so a bit too soon to declare the problem solved, but we are on the right track I think!

Oh also the lc got me an rx for my boobs. Also said my level of damage/ pain is more than normal (prob from our marathon nursing sessions where fia was not getting enough and prob sucking too hard), and said the rx can heal me up faster than lanolin. Yay! Love her.

Sorry I've been MIA. My phone is wonky and doesn't like to load hb very well and I haven't been getting to the computer often since I somehow damaged the screen on mine and can only use DH's work laptop. I have been reading what I can though!

@Mae: Great news on both accounts! Hope you continue to heal quickly and that F is more content. P.S. is one of her nicknames Fia? If so that is what my little sister and nephew used to call me!

@junebugmama: Sorry to hear about your birth. However, Jace is absolutely adorable!

@twodoghouse: Hopefully the Zantac will help Blake! Good luck going dairy free for Alice. That sounds so tough!

@Mae: I wanted to chime in and recommend Milkmakers lactation cookies. They are very tasty and after I ate one, I pumped 5 oz out of one boob (several hours later). I'm glad you had a good LC appointment!

Is anyone else's baby having really long awake stretches? The last couple days C has been awake for two four hour or so stretches and then sleeping the rest of the time. I know that is typically way too long of awake time. But also know he is content during the time (mostly) and is then awful to get down, assuming he is overtired at that point? It's weird, but having tried to get him to shorten the awake time both times yesterday and have it take 2+ hours to get him down, I'm kind of clueless on what else to try!

He napped in his crib yesterday for the first time. Following a poop splosion I put him in his crib to get new clothes for him, got him dressed and this was during his long sleepy stretch and he just passed out laying there, too cute!

@Beebug: well, Fiona is typically awake (except yesterday!) from 3-10. So that is super long. But she was also screaming and apparently hungry! Does nursing not make him sleepy?

@Beebug: Leo has had 2-3 hour awake times maybe once a day. He's pretty content too. My 1st never followed those typical awake times either. I used to worry about it. I'm trying to be more laid back this time and not worry so much about his sleep habits!

@Mae: glad your appointment went so well and you have a good plan! Hope you can get your supply up soon!
@Beebug: W used to stay wake like that in the evening and got so overtired it was impossible to get him to sleep. I hav no advice as we still struggle to get him to sleep!

G is a much much better sleeper than i ever could have imagined. I have to work to keep him awake some days but when we get it right he gives us a nice 5 hour stretch at night. W didnt do that until i night weaned him in January so I am so so very thankful for the good nights. This is my first full week alone with the boys so hope we can get through it!

@Mae: I'm so glad to hear your update! We do breastfeeding, pumped milk and formula too. Such a pain! But it is nice to know exactly what your LO is getting in the bottles!

@Beebug: He looks so cute in that big bed!

@skipra: That's awesome that G sleeps so well! Good luck this week with both LOs!

@Mrs Hazelnut: I hope the membrane sweep works and you'll be meeting your LO soon!

A and B are one month old today! Times has really gone fast. I can barely believe it. Things have gotten a little crazy with the screaming around here. We ended up getting A on Zantac too, so I'm hoping we see some improvement with their reflux soon!

  32. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Mrs Hazelnut: I had two attempted sweeps but was too closed both times for anything to be done. If you actually got a sweep done twice, I'm pretty sure you'll be going soon!

Being the last one due AND being overdue must be a hard wait. But don't worry you'll always be a "May Mama"

Hey everyone! I've been completely MIA lately, and I feel really bad that I haven't been around! Congrats to everyone who had their babies in the last couple of weeks, and I'm loving all the pics you guys have posted!

We've been having a bit of a rough time over here. Baby William was jaundice (not enough that he needed the lights, but enough that we had to go to the hospital for a few days to check his levels, and enough that he wasn't really eating). So I started exclusively pumping, and that's what I've been doing ever since. It's what I did for DD so I'm used to it, and honestly, I like it a lot more than bf-ing. The bottle washing is annoying, but other than that, I love that it takes 20 minutes, then I'm done, and I like seeing how much he's getting ,etc.

A few days after we got home from the hospital,. both DH and my mom came down with a horrible horrible flu bug. We assume they picked up something at the hospital. DH actually passed out in our bedroom and woke up in a puddle of puke (yes, super super gross). My parents took DD for the night (my mom was better by then), but that left William and I stranded with nowhere to go on our second night home! (we don't have a guest room, and my back was so insanely sore that I couldn't sleep on a couch) so I had to call around and see if any of our friends were willing to house me and a newborn for a night! Not fun! I felt soooo bad leaving DH for the night, he couldn';t even move...but I couldn't have a newborn sleeping in a puke-filled room! Luckily the rest of us didn't get sick.

Once we finally recovered from that episode, I started having my own issues. Overnight saturday night, my feet were so so so itchy that I couldn't sleep. I figured it was just hormones or something. It lasted for a few nights, but it was just my feet. Well, yesterday, it turned into a full blown rash EVERYWHERE. I seriously look like one of those google images that no one wants to see. And it is spreading so fast that I can practically watch it happening. I went to the ER last night because it was spreading so quickly and I was really worried about it possibly being contagious. The ER doc wasn't exactly sure what it is. He thought it might be PUPPS, but not definitely. I went to my doctor this morning, and she had another doctor come in to look at it, and neither of them can tell what it is either. I had a blood test done this morning to check my white blood cell count, so I guess I'm just waiting on those results! I'm going with the assumption that it's PUPPS, but everyone thought it was strange that I would get it post-partum rather than while pregnant. I'm pretty much in constant pain everywhere now because the itchiness is so bad. And it's starting to reach my face now...which is going to be SUPER attractive!

Anyways, things aren't ALL bad. William is SUCH a good baby, we are so lucky. He sleeps a lot, and doesn't really fuss unless he's having a bath or getting his diaper changed. He's not great at sleeping on his own at night, so we've been co-bedding, which I never ever wanted to do...I'm super paranoid that one of us will roll over him...but so far so good. I'm trying to put him in his bassinet more and more because I don't want to co-bed for too long.

DD is doing pretty well with her little brother. She does get jealous a lot of the time if I'm holding him, but it hasn't been too too bad yet. However, I haven't yet had to do a day alone with the two of them, since she was going to daycare full time until last week, and my mom has been helping me this week.

And since I never attached any pictures originally, here are a few glamour shots of baby William!

@cookie_dough: Oh my that sounds like a good few hectic weeks!! So sorry you went through all of that, and still are going through.... I had a strange rash as well that my OB couldn't figure out. I really thing it was PUPPS, he thought it was an allergy. All over my abdomen and legs. It took a week t clear up, with the help of a little Piriton. I hope yours clears up quickly! And your boy is adorable!! Love his sleepy face, so cute.

@Mrs Hazelnut: any baby news yet!?

My BIL and SIL were scheduled to have a c-section Wednesday at 38w, ended up having baby this am! All we know is girl, no name yet! My ILs are here (ILs and this BIL/SIL live on east coast) and so it figures they have the baby while BIls parents are away!

One of my grandmothers passed away this am. I've had an insane week with hospital visits to her, Colin went from sleepy baby to never sleeping baby, my nips are effing raw and I'm in so much pain. Getting house ready for ILs was insane, but visit is going great so far.

DD and DS are sick, it's awful.

Just bleh, this week has been so crazy!

@cookie_dough: my goodness it sounds like you have had your fair share of crazy too, eeep. Hope things getting better for you.

My last post in here was asking about awake stretches, literally as the week went on his stretches got longer and longer to no daytime sleep at all, hell! I was so worries he was hungry and so unsettled, now with him sick, stuffed up, goopy eyes and cough. Argh.

I had to get him nursing on a schedule vs on demand, one the nipple pain is nearly unbearable, the break between sessions was needed, and on top of that I was just worried I didn't have anything in there for him, and this way I know there's lots in there by the time he eats. We try for every 3 hours start to start, but it's usually 2-2.5 hours!

Ummm what else, I really hope everyone is doing ok ad hopefully we will get more active on here again once the newborn days settle out a bit, they have definitely caught up with me and I am eating my words from previously about "sleep" and "easier". Serves me right.

    @cookie_dough: so cute!!

@Beebug: I'm so glad to hear that your inlaw visit is going well, especially considering how stressful that was for you last time. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother though! and the nipple pain! I can relate. My nipples are still cracked and hurt so bad. Like I have to vocalize during every latch because just... OW.

Things here are going pretty well over all. I feel like we're definitely still figuring things out. Particularly eating. So I think I updated before the LC told us to supplement after bf because my supply is low. We've been doing that and cut out almost all of the inconsolable crying. She's still a bit fussy in the evenings but there is no more "omg are they juicing that child?!" crying for hours on end anymore. But its still really hard for us to figure out how much and when to feed her. I really wish anyone would give us permission to just throw the schedule out the window. At this point she is BF for about 30-40 min and then usually during the day she wants more so we give her whatever I pumped at my last session (which is almost always less than an ounce) and then offer 2 ounces formula. She usually finished that. And then sometimes she wants even more! it seems like so much for a baby but sometimes she just keeps mouthing until we give her another 2 ounces (we do 1 more ounce and wait. then 1 more if she is still mouthing and chewing on her hands). But this whole process can take like 1.5 hours and then it takes her like 30-60 min to fall asleep. so then she is sleeping hard when we hit the 3 hour mark where I'm supposed to bf her again! And I hate waking her but we're still supposed to. Also I'm getting really sick of pumping after every session. But honestly these things are still SOOO much better than before. A bit frustrating but do-able... not like omg i'm losing my damn mind like before.

Otherwise I think things are pretty good... I think I'm falling in love with her. I mean, I loved her immediately and felt very bonded immediately. But I think I just loved her because she was my baby, I didn't really love her for HER, if that makes sense. Now she does things and just cracks me up and I feel like I'm getting to know and love who she actually is, which is amazing.

One other thing I'm still struggling with is feeling like she is such a 24/7 job. This is probably a common new mom feeling though! I just can't believe how little time I have. This is the first time I've been on my computer in like 3 days... I used to spend like 16 hrs/day on it! I don't even leave my bedroom until after noon most days. I feel like if I"m not nursing, I'm pumping, or cleaning pump parts, or letting her sleep on me, or tending to my c section wound. She doesn't really like to sleep during the day other than on a person, and has a really hard time sleeping on anyone but me (she will occasionally sleep on DH but its like 10x easier to get her to sleep on me)... so I just feel like I'm busy with her constantly. Today she actually fell asleep on DH and I painted my toenails and got to come on HB on my computer and it feels like a vacation-- this 1 hour I've had to myself! I don't know how people do anything with newborns... I see all these bloggers doing updates and a ton of photos and they go on outings and run errands..?! I haven't even updated my blog that she was born. And other than the newborn photos I did and iPhone photos I've taken no photos of her. Really almost anything that requires 2 hands is beyond my reach at the moment.

So yea. That's the (so long!) update on me! I hope everyone else is doing well!!
