@beebug- ketchup chips? Are you in Canada? That is the only time I ever had ketchup chips. I was telling an american friend about them the other day, and she looked at me like I was cray, cray!

I am baffled by the naming process. My husband does not like anything I have picked, and yet he has not suggested anything. He won't read the baby name books with me. Boooooo! Anyways, as long as he reads the post pregnancy books that is alright with me.:)

@Coopersmama: lol yes on Canadian. Ketchup chips are totally my fave.

@beebug! Of course. I do miss ketchup chips, and I REALLY miss Tim Hortons, and I would really like to have a decent poutine. I went to undergrad and business school in Toronto and Montreal. This is TMI, but I think our baby was conceived in Toronto during our last visit

I'm having a freakout moment here. Woke up this morning after several really bad MS days, with no nausea. I'm 8 weeks today. No nausea all day, just slightly grossed out by smells. Then at about noon, I wiped myself and there was some brown stuff. Since then I've checked several times and it's been clear every time. I'm afraid. Do y'all think I should call the doctor? I'm going to see her Monday.

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@whodat: don't freak out. Symptoms can come and go throughout the day and if there's no fresh red blood things should be okay. If it helps to calm your nerves you should probably call your doctor and hear what they say.

  6. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: Nope, haven't started talking about it yet! We decided not to talk about it until after we know a gender. Privately I'm sort of looking though. And I told my husband he should be at least thinking of some options now, although I don't think he is.

@whodat: I can't tell you what the right thing to do is, but personally I wouldn't be that worried. I have good days and bad days symptom wise. And a tiny bit of brown blood seems like nothing to me. Especially because you're seeing her Monday.

@Coopersmama: we had the girl name picked before we were even engaged lol and we have decided to stick with it. Taeja-Marie which is a variation of my name, sort of. He likes Matthias for a boy but that is taking some time to grow on me...

@Beebug: my mom's name is Jillian and she's awesome

@whodat: I hope that the spotting has resolved! It can't hurt to call if it will help your peace of mind, but it is great that you are going in Monday. I am a worrier, so I would probably call...

I did end up calling the on-call doctor, and she said since it was brown and I'm not having cramping, there's no immediate cause for concern. She didn't seem too worried about the sudden lack of MS. But she did say to relax and stay off my feet. I laid down for about 20 minutes and then got up to help DH clean, and he was like "oh no you don't. On the couch!" So here I am watching TV as he cleans.... I just want to puke again so I know this little one is still there.

@Coopersmama: hahaha the TMI part is the best part of that comment, that is awesome!!!!

I have gotten Timmies like twice since bfp. I am a tea addict, DH Timmies coffee, but I stay away from tea (or try to) until 3rd tri or so)

@whodat: Hope everything is okay! No red is key, staying positive for you!!!

DD is soooo sick, it's been a heck of a day, to be expected I suppose after her first nearly full week in daycare, I feel so awful for her.

@Orvis18: Yay, even with a June edd, welcome!!!!! And congrats!

Thank you Mr. WhoDat for making sure Whodat sits and gets some rest. I am glad you are wanting to puke again Even just for reassurance.

Welcome @Orvis18. @glitter- love the names. I really like Matthias. Are you going to have nicknames for either boy or girl? Are you having a middle name.

I sorta like the name 'August' right now. I also liked Madison and Harlow and Brooklyn. My husband says only if it is a girl. So I have some girl names 'maybe' picked out, but don't completely love any one of them. And I am stuck with August as the only boy name I can think of right now.

So today, the hormones took over, and I completely lost it on a bratty 12 year old! Normally, I would take it in stride, but he kept running around my work booth and splashing water at us. I ran up to him as if I was going to grab him. My husband had to stop me. I have never in my life even yelled at my dog, and today I was yelling at someone else's kid. I am still in a daze, and frankly really, really embarrassed that some random kid ticked me off. arrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh...........

Oh and I have been meaning to say we are planning to find out sex and have no idea on names. DH and I are both stubborn so it was a lot rougher than I thought last time to finally find something we agreed on! I hope it is easier this time but we probably won't start the conversation/negotiation until after the anatomy scan...

    @Glitter: @Coopersmama: @Mae: thanks ladies!
We haven't decided on names yet and are still undecided about finding out the sex. We found out with DS and I was glad because I was convinced we were having a girl. It gave me a little time to adjust to the idea of having a boy. DS also has the same name as DH so we didn't have to spend much time thinking about names. This time will be a lot of fun!

  20. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

I guess since others are sharing the names they're thinking of I can too Right now my favorite for a girl is Eve and for a boy is Alexander (Xander). But since I haven't talked to my husband about it yet, and since I tend to change my mind a lot-- who knows what will actually happen.

  21. Coopersmama

@mae- love both names, ESP. Xander.

@Coopersmama: Even though it's still early, we are having a lot of trouble with girl names! Our DD's name is Brynn, and we love her name...but are having a tough time finding another girl name we like as much or that goes with Brynn (not that it has to match or anything, I just like a lot of names that are TOO similar, like Bryce, Ryan, Bronwyn) which we wouldn't use.

For a boy, we had picked William last time, and will most likely go with William this time if it's a boy. It's DH's grandfather's name, and they are very close, so it's pretty much non-negotiable! I do love the name, I just wish it wasn't so popular.

The girl names I currently love are: Teagan, Skylar, Cecilia, Aria (bit too popular for me though), Lane, and Sadie. DH doesn't like any of them.

The list of girl names that we both like: Hannah, Haley, Paige.

I have a feeling that if it's a girl, she will be Hannah. I'd prefer to keep the name out of the top 50, but I do really like the name Hannah, so I don't think I will worry about it too much!

    kiwi / 619 posts

And because I didn't post enough about names already ...I remembered one more name that we are considering. It's for a girl again - Reid. I like that it's different, but I'm wondering if it's too "out there" for a girl. I welcome any feedback, good or bad!!!

  24. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @Coopersmama: thanks!

@cookie_dough: the popularity thing sucks so bad. I feel the same as you, that I'd like a name out of the top 50 if at all possible. But I like so many of the top names! Especially for boys. I have no idea if we will ultimately go with a less popular name or decide to suck it up and go with whatever we love regardless of popularity. One nice thing though is that even the most popular names are less popular now than the most popular names of the 80s. I read somewhere (and of course I can't find it now!) that at the peak of the Jennifer/Jessica craze in the 80s, there were twelve times the number of babies being named each of those names as there are today babies being named Sophia (the current top girl pick). So hopefully regardless of the names we choose, unless we are supremely unlucky, our kids won't be in a class for 4 other kids of the same name.

@Coopersmama: Care packages I can handle!! haha wouldn't that be funny!

@Mae: Just the caffeine! I am sure it is probably okay and I find it ironic that I ignore most "don't eats" while pregnant, but the one thing I have every day, I quit. I guess it's the one thing I don't do occasionally or whatever, I just quit for the 1st and 2nd tri, with the occasional cheat and then bring it back in near the end! I can have de-caffinated just as happily, heck warm water just as happily I think the warm tea is a comfort thing for me!

@whodat: How you doing Momma? Hope okay

@Orvis18: As much as I think I could stand to not find out with #2, I think if it were a boy, I would need time to get my head wrapped around/adjust to a boy as I now have it in my head I couldn't "do" a boy. As in wouldn't know what to do, I realize this is irrational, I don't know if it's because we have a girl now or what, lol. DH and I have it in our guts already this one is a girl, so we'll see

We haven't mentioned names at all more (or our early gender thoughts/feelings) since last week. 9w today, eeep!

DHs parents were coming to visit us over DDs birthday weekend (Oct 20th) but now are not flying here until Nov 22/23. We are insane but are going to try to physically hide it until then (from everyone) and tell them then, my fam too, and probably let the flood gates go from there. Oye! We really want to be foolish and get DD a shirt with something big sister related and let them find out that way.

@cookie_dough: Found it! Sort of. I can't remember where it is nationally, but you can look up names by State and see exactly how many babies were named each name for a particular year. I'm in Ohio. So in 2012 there were 830 babies named Sophia (#1) and 820 babies named Emma (#2). The year I was born, 1984, had 2,265 Ashleys born (#1) and 2,261 Jennifers (#2). There were 843 girls named Amy (#15 on the list) in Ohio the year I was born. That means that I should have gone to school with as many or more Amys as our kids would go to school with Sophias. And honestly--- I certainly knew AN Amy or two, but it wasn't like they were all over the place to the point where there was ever more than one in a class.

Hello ladies...I'm really behind so I'm sorry to not address everyone personally. I will have to go back and catch up soon. I just started a new job so things have been crazy. I'm still here though. I'm still feeling pretty good. I didn't have any MS last time (sorry to all those who are suffering) and it seems the same this time so far. The lack of symptoms worries me but I keep testing and so far they are still positive. I should be 8 weeks today and my first appointment is a week from today. Look forward to getting caught u p with everyone soon! Wishing you all well!

@Orvis18: Welcome! I think I remember your name from the August 2012 boards from wedding bee. Am I right? I had a different name and for the life of me I can't remember it right now.

@Beebug: You have so much patience to wait so long to tell people! Also, makes sense about the caffeine if you're trying to avoid it. My doc said I could have up to 3 cups of coffee/day. I stick to one and I feel fine about that lol.

    @Mae: That link is awesome.

DH and I were talking about BIL and SIL and the name they chose for their boy. We don't love it for our taste, mostly because it's probably one of the most popular boy names (if not the most) right now, buuuut thought about it, their two names were the most popular boy and girl names of the 80's, like I always had four of their name in every class growing up, so it sort of made sense. But I wonder, do other people pick that way? If one has a more common name are they then more comfortable with a popular name? Or do some work the opposite not wanting their kid(s) to share a name with so many others? DH and my names are recognizable but not crazy common, as is our daughters, and probably any future kids, not off the wall, common enough you've heard of it, but not often!

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: Glad you enjoy it! I love that website. And it does really help put things in perspective. My name was #13 in my state the year I was born and there were more girls named that than there were girls named Sophia last year. And I really never felt like my name was "too popular." Most of my schooling I was the only one in my grade (until hs when two other girls with the same name joined the district!). Now as an adult I see my name more but I think it is sort of just a fluke. My best friend married a girl with my name and her best friend has the same name as her. So he always jokes that it gets very confusing for him because his best friend, wife, and wife's best friend all have the same name. Even still though, it doesn't bug me. Maybe I should let that be a lessen to worry less about how popular a name is if I like it!

@Mae: That's a good point, and awesome link! Plus, our kids will be going to a french public school, so even less chance of there being too many kids with the same names in their classes if they have very english names.

@Beebug: I bought a bunch of caffeine-free teas, and realized that they all contain ingredients that you are supposed to avoid during pregnancy like hibiscus, chicory root, etc. I haven't done much research into why they are bad, but I don't think I will chance it. I do miss my daily tea though. I've been cheating and having Tim Horton's apple cinamon tea a few times a week, although I'm sure it contains some of those no-no ingredients.

@cookie_dough: I have caffeine-free earl gray at home, I haven't really touched, I should look at the ingredients!

I have a name I always get asked if I am french, I'm not, funny my Mom liked two french names for me.

I made this list for 2012 in Canada, #77. DDs isn't on there.

Lots of great name ideas in there. I like the name Quinn, there is a "Cuinn" in my family tree. I think it's cool with a C, but I could never do it, lol.

@Beebug: nice! I like unisex names. One of my favorites was Charlotte (nn Charlie) but completely coincidentally my husband's best man's wife just had a baby last week and they named her that! I don't think I love it enough to do the same considering how often we see them.

@cookie_dough: How did you learn about the list no-no's? I feel like my doc is maybe a bit more chill on this than many. I got a list of things to avoid but those weren't on it. And like I said, I specifically asked if there was any reason I couldn't have tea and they said no (except for not going overboard on caffeine, which my fav kind is caffeine free anyways).
