@cookie_dough: Interesting. I think I fall pretty far down on the scale of generally worrying about things that my doc hasn't told me specifically to avoid. It seems like if you spend too much time trying to avoid anything that could possibly theoretically be harmful you'd end up in a soft padded corner with nothing but produce and water. lol. I checked my fav tea and it does have ginger, which that site says is a no... but I think I'll prob still drink it and not worry about it. I never have more than one glass at a time anyways and not even every day.

@Coopersmama: lol Quebec stripper name, ha!!! That is funny. I like(d?) the name too, I won't forget that comment though!

@Orvis18: Welcome - glad to see you here!
@whodat: Hope you had a restful weekend and are feeling better today!
@Coopersmama: My DH and I love the name August! For a while we were pretty set that that was our boy name, but now I think we've moved on. I still think it is such a lovely name, though!
@Mae: Beautiful name choices. Alexander is my husband's name (although he goes by Alex) and it is my very favorite boy's name of all time. My DH isn't interested in a junior though.
@cookie_dough: I love the name Hannah! Love Cecilia and Aria too.
My husband and I have mostly non-compatible naming styles, but we have found a few girl names we have agreed on: Alice, Kate, Anna, Lila. They aren't my FAVORITE girl names, but I think they are all nice. I know whatever we pick will grow on me and be the perfect name in the end.
I have no idea what we're going to do about boy names. My husband has said he's liked a few names that surprised me (Felix, August) but then sort of backed off on them. I'm leaning towards Max or Theo for boy names and I think he might come around on them. I guess we'll wait until we know if we're dealing with two girls, two boys or one of each before we get too serious about names.
I have another ultrasound at 11:30 today - can't wait to see my little bugs again!

@Mae: Ya, I don't know why this "rule" stuck with me...but I definitely don't abide by ALL the rules. I think ginger tea would be great to help with nausea so if I had any, I would probably drink it too!
@twodoghouse: yay, good luck today! I love Kate and Anna together And Max and Theo!

@cookie_dough: Yea... it isn't even ginger tea. It is chai roobios tea that happens to have some ginger in it. I'm sure it is fine!

we have done some name thinking.. I'm trying not to settle on anything till we know what its going to be. DH and I also don't always seem to agree on names.
My favorite girls name is Madelyn. We have an Irish last name and I think Maddy O' would be so cute. I also like Paige and Josephine. I am totally stuggling with boys names tho. DH has suggested a Jr. but he has the #1 most popular boys name of all time so I don't know. On my list right now is Gavin and Alex but I'm not in love with them.

@Mae: my doctor said I can have 8 oz of caffeine a day - so thats a coffe, tea or soda. I was a 3 large cups of coffee a day drinker but I haven't had any. Until today - this is my first tiny little cup of coffee and I will try not to make it an every day thing. But this monday morning I sure needed it! And I'm 10 weeks today so I treated myself

@twodoghouse: thank you!
@cookie_dough: my OB last time told me there were no specific studies about the consumption of herbal teas during pregnancy so he advised against drinking them as well. I did have peppermint tea occasionally and plan to do the same this time, so long as it doesn't nauseate me.
@mrsog: I really like Josephine! That's on my list as well.

Hi ladies. Having trouble keeping up with all of you lately. We decided to sell our condo and the listing is going up tomorrow so we've been soooo busy getting ready for it. On top of that, MS decided to rear its ugly head last week. I mean I felt queasy before but I was enjoying not throwing up. Unless I eat super greasy foods it seems that anything will set me off. I just opened the fridge yesterday and barely made it to the bathroom in time. So now I'm just living on eggplant parm.
I think we'll find out the sex this time. We didn't (until the very end by mistake) last time and it was really fun, but I'd like to see how it is knowing this time around. There is a good chance that we'll be done after this and I'd kind of like to have one of each but at the same time the thought of a girl really freaks me out. I only have nephews and have no idea what to do with a girl. No names yet. We waited until the very last minute with DS and will probably do the same again. DH is no help at all picking out names, so I have to come up with them and he will pick out which ones he likes and hates from my list. DSs name is at the top of the list for popularity, yet we haven't met any other kids with his name. I'm sure there will be some when he goes to school though.
@Orvis18: Congrats and welcome!!! I live just outside Boston. Where do you plan to deliver? I had DS at NWH but since we're moving may change practices and hospitals. It's kind of scary because I don't really know much about the other hospitals around Boston.

@mrsog: Yay Irish! We have a very Irish last name too (although it doesn't start with O). I am definitely considering some Irish names because I think it would be cute. I love Fiona for a girl, and Liam for a boy (although I know, SO POPULAR). lol
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@mrsog: @Mae: We have a Scottish last name, could be Irish without an 'A'. Funny how much with DD we sounded out her whole name when trying to pick a name, you watch she'll marry someone with a name that totally does not "go" with her first name, and it won't even matter!
@skipra: So you and I can coach each other through when we end up with what we're freaked of, you and girls, and me and boys!!! I know we'd be fine, but yeah, I just think "I don't know what to do with a boy"!

@mrsog: I gave up caffiene altogether last time but havent been able to this time. I havea cup of decaf on my way to work, then a grande half caff at Starbucks when I get to work. I think it's 16oz total so I'm within my limit for the day.
@skipra: We are just north of the city and plan to go back to MGH, where we had DS. I really liked everything about the experience, aside from the long wait time during routine appointments. We considered going to Winchester instead, as it is so close, but decided just to stay with MGH. I have a lot of mom friends around, so feel free to PM me if you have other places in mind because I probably know someone who delivered there
@Mae: We have a Scottish last name (starts with Mac) so it limits our choices too. DH doesn't want any names that start with M. lol.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Orvis18: M's are hard! Our last name starts with an M and I feel like it makes it really hard. My fav name always used to be Mae (hence my name here!) after my grandmother, but Mae M---- is a mouthful. I don't even know how I feel about names with M in them. I always liked Camille (nn: Cami) but Cami M--- sounds weird to me too.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mae: Mae is actually the middle name I'm hoping to use if we have a girl, after my great grandmother. It wouldn't go with our last name at all! haha.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: I'm joining you in the "I have no idea what to do with a boy" team! DH would love a boy though. I will be happy with either, of course, but I would love for DD to have a sister! My sister and I fought like crazy growing up, but we are so close now that we are older.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Orvis18: Love it!! I think it is so beautiful. Weirdly my grandma always hated it, but I think mostly because her family called her by her full name (Nancy Mae) which she though sounded too country. I wish that we could have used it for our own child but I think it just doesn't go with our last name and my husband doesn't really love it anyways.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Orvis18: We really liked Madeline, even with how popular it is here (I swear every other girl name I hear around her is Madeline) but Madeline Mac_____ (our last name) yah.....it just doesn't work!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Exactly, totally happy with either, and I know we'd be fine! My sister is 8 years younger, we have nothinggggg in common, so close sisters would be cool, even with some solid sister fighting surely along the way, lol.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Orvis18: That is such a common last name where DH is from (east coast) so when I heard it as a first name, I was like "what" but do really like it, too! But yah, no-go with the last name!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Beebug: @cookie_dough: Boys are so much fun! You guys will love it if you have a boy They can be rambunctious when they are younger but from what I hear are much easier when they are teenagers. I'm not so nervous about having a baby girl. I'm nervous about the teenage girl!
@Orvis18: I have heard very similar things about MGH and glad you had a great experience. I guess we'll have to see where we end up. I'm nervous that if we move away and stay with the same practice that I'll end up giving birth in the car on 128 during rush hour traffic.
Our last name is Lithuanian. Really really hard to find a good first name to go with it. Most of the names that I loved last time just sounded awful with the last name. I told DH that I might put my maiden name on the birth certificate this time!

2 1/2 hours until the ultrasound.... Ugh it cannot get here soon enough. I continued to have spotting yesterday and this morning. Still very light brown and no cramping, plus I threw up this morning and still feel pretty horrendous. Praying I see a little heartbeat!
I asked DH this weekend whether we should go "team green," and he immediately said "No." I explained that we already have crib bedding for both genders (blue and green animals for DS, and purple polka dots for DD), plus we have boy infant clothes and a lot of gender-neutral stuff, and he was still headset on finding out. Oh well.
Re; Names -- We literally did not decide what to name DS until he was already born. Naming a boy is so hard. DH wanted "Axl" and really nothing else, and I absolutely cannot stand Axl. Like, there's no way. We ultimately named DS a name that DH kind of liked and I loved, and I can't imagine us finding another boy name that's mutually acceptable. Girl names are fun and easy!

@skipra: I was worried about the traffic too, but it ended up working out fine since my water broke at midnight and we didn't need to go in until noon the next day. We are off of 128 too, if that helps.

@whodat: good luck at the u/s! a little brown spotting is most likely nothing but I know anything would make me nervous too. At least you have this appt today to find out right away!
cherry / 129 posts
@whodat.... sending love and good luck sprinkles your way. Let us know how your appointment goes.
@everybody- I have been pretty diligent with the no-go foods. I have not even had a coffee or diet soda since I found out. Maybe over compensation for the excessive wine and oysters and brie I had the weekend before I found out I was preggers. On the other hand, I have not been super healthy either. I have the craziest cravings for random stuff like McDonald Fries, fried chix, doritos and Mac&Cheese. Stuff I don't typically eat. Weird!
My husband keeps calling our baby Heinrich or Helga. Strong german names he says :0 it is a joke, but we are totally going to tell our friends that that is what we are naming our kiddo, and try and keep a straight face.
What are your 'fake names"?
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: good luck at your u/s! I'm sure seeing the HB will put your mind at ease. Most people I know who have been pregnant spotted and went on to have healthy babies.
@Coopersmama: Lolz. My husband swears he wants Buck (as in, Kill Bill) or Trixie (as in, his childhood cat).

@whodat: Good luck at your appointment. Crossing my fingers everything looks good!
We just got back from our appointment. Things were still looking good. Baby A is still measuring a few days ahead and Baby B is right on with the 8 weeks 4 days that I am. However my doctor thinks Baby B might be a little bigger than he measured because B was situated at a weird angle which made it hard to measure. At first it was hard to hear B's heartbeat too (freaked me out!) but then there it was loud and fast! Baby A's heartbeat was 167 and Baby B was 183. I'm wondering if the difference in rates is because they are different genders? I am dying to find out!
I am officially released from my RE now! He said the next time he needs to see my DH and me is when we're each carrying a baby. So now I need to call my OB and figure out when I need to be seen by his office. I'm nervous about leaving my RE and his staff, but excited to move on to a regular OB like a normal pregnant woman!

@whodat: thinking of you and hoping for a reassuring appointment.
@Coopersmama: I've been good about the foods and eat pretty well and exercise a few times per week. I have had a few diet sodas and crystal light though. I know it's not the best thing but I just don't like drinking plain water.
No fun nicknames yet for us this time around. I feel like it isn't really going to set in for me that we are pregnant until I hear the heartbeat. That's how it was for me last time. 4 weeks until my first appointment....
papaya / 10343 posts
@Coopersmama: haha yes! we've vowed to not seriously talk baby names until we know a gender. That was just one of those after dinner walk "Oh honey I thought of the beeeesssst nameeeee" convos
@twodoghouse: yay congrats!!!

@mae- Thank goodness
@twodoghouse- yay for two dogs and two babies! Sounds like quiet an exciting time. Btw- silly question, what is an RE?
Also- has anyone heard of pregnant pauses? Is it just a silly gimmick? http://www.pregnantpauses.us/
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Coopersmama: An RE is a reproductive endocrinologist. Basically, the doctor at the infertility clinic where we did IVF.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Coopersmama: I haven't heard of that website but I do know lots of people who've done maternity shoots. I am hoping to do one this time with DH and DS. More of a family photo shoot I guess.

@Coopersmama: I haven't heard of that, but my doc said my doing yoga was really great for pregnancy and I should definitely keep it up throughout.

@whodat: Hope your appointment went well and the spotting goes away soon.
@twodoghouse: Yay for two good looking babies!!! So exciting!
@Coopersmama: Never heard of it. I did prenatal yoga with DS and honestly was never really uncomfortable. The cat/cow stretch and squats seemed to help most.
@Orvis18: That is reassuring.`

Hey guys! Thanks for the well wishes. We have a heartbeat!! Baby is measuring 8 weeks 6 days, while based on LMP it should be 8 weeks 2 days, but because I had 24 day cycles it makes sense. So I'm changing my due date to 5/13 instead of 5/17. We even saw a colorized ultrasound that showed the blood going from the umbilical cord into the heart.
My doctor as usual was awesome. She started out the appointment by saying, "Ok, is it a boy or a girl?" And I said, "No, my question is, is it alive?" She laughed and said of course it's alive. She says the bleeding may have been caused by a polyp, or residual implantation bleeding. And then she goes on to ask me to compare my first pregnancy (girl) and second (boy) to this one so we can see whether it's a boy or a girl. But, this pregnancy isn't really like either of the prior ones. I'm not deathly sick like with DS, but I'm a lot more sick than with DD. So who knows. I still think boy (and DH won't talk names until we know).
