@whodat: yay! So glad to see your little one and that you got to hear a heartbeat!
@twodoghouse: congrats on a good ultrasound for you too and for "graduating" to regular OB care.
You guys are making me so excited for my appt on Thursday. I am seriously considering spilling the beans at work if everything goes well just so I can start busting out the maternity clothes and be more comfortable!

Hi everyone! I had my first appt today but sadly no ultrasound. I have to wait another 4 weeks until it's time for the nuchal screening. I gave the poor phlebotomist a run for her money though...I have AWFUL veins and they had to stick me 5 times to get what they needed!
Dr was able to validate my various concerns and questions though so that's good! Here's hoping the next 4 weeks fly by! We also scheduled the BIG ultrasound and I'm psyched that it will be 12/16, so before Christmas!

@whodat: congrats!!!
@caity713: bummer! did they use a doppler on you to hear a heartbeat?
coffee bean / 48 posts
@Mae: Nope! Apparently I just have to assume there's a baby in there unless proven otherwise? Hopefully Nov. 4th will come quickly!!!
kiwi / 619 posts
@caity713: sounds like you and I are in the exact same boat! I'm going to schedule the genetic testing for November 4th as well (if they have a spot available), and until then I'm just assuming that there's a baby in there!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@skipra: Good call, I never thought about that with boys, the trade off (usually) through different ages/stages versus girls.
@twodoghouse: Exciting about update on your two and moving on from RE to OB!!!
@whodat: yay on heartbeat and on change of EDD! One day apart edd's!!! Glad to hear everything is looking okay and hopefully no more worries moving forward.
@caity713: Dec 16th!! Eeee that is so awesome you got to schedule it already! We fly to DHs hometown on the 22nd so having ours just before would be unreal and maybe we'd do something fun for gender reveal!
I haven't had my IPS stuff booked yet, assuming I will hear from my doctor's office soon that I have to go pick up paperwork and have the dates to go for all that, I forget, two blood tests and an u/s? Or just one blood?
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: I think it's a blood test and ultrasound between 11 and 13 weeks, and then another blood test between 15-18 weeks.
@whodat: @twodoghouse: yay for your ultrasounds! glad they both went well!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Yes, you're totally right! I remember it seemed like quite the process, I have to go to the hospital for it and not my regular doc so I just remember it being a bit more than one u/s! IPS was in between both of our first tri scares so with all the extra bloodwork and u/s's for that it was sort of a blur.

I'm having a skinny day at work today. Skinny pants, tight top. Will put on a show sucking in when up from my desk. Decided I need to have one skinny day a week until I can't to try to keep any guesses away. We will see how I feel this afternoon about this plan
apricot / 365 posts
@Beebug: Haha me too! Skinny jeans and a tight sweatshirt thing. Looks ok now but this afternoon I might regret it. I was going to tell my boss today, but the one person I told at work is out of town and I wanted her in the room for moral support. 9 weeks today based on new EDD!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: I am having the opposite kind of day. Maternity pants and a very flowy shirt. I pretty much have nothing left in my closet that doesn't make me look pregnant. Not sure how I'm going to make it 4 more weeks trying to hide it! I'm pretty sure I didn't look this pregnant until I was about 20 weeks last time.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Maybe the end of the week we should do an updated list with EDDs for those who have had appts or confirmations and upcoming appt dates! I feel like it's been a while since our initial one!!
@whodat: Woo 9w! I think next Monday (10w) I am going to start weekly belly shots! I started at like 7w last time, which was totally pointless! I think this time I am going to wear the same shirt for the pic, I really like the ones I have seen that wear the same thing!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: I am so with you. I have to make sure I get dressed for work before DD is up because I just stare at my closet (forever) trying to figure out what I can fit into. It's awful. Hiding it will be hard, there will be definite freedom in what I can wear once people know. I have some maternity shirts thrown in with my regular tops already just so I am wearing them and it makes it easier to hide when I do have to! I am struggling with pants. I have no mat pants and my normal me work pants are sooo tight at the belly. Even with bellaband dealio, just not comfortable. I need pants, I just won't go buy them yet. Probably because I know how much the ones I want cost! I love my clothes from Thyme, but they are just so dang expensive.

@cookie_dough: I've heard a lot of 2nd time moms show a lot earlier with their 2nd!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: I don't know where @sweetkeight: is! She wanted to run the list but it feels like she hasn't been around in weeks-- I hope everything is okay! If we don't hear from her by the end of the week we should maybe make a new list ourselves until she comes back
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I am definitely showing sooner, but I struggle with am I actually showing sooner or did I really just eat too many pies, lol. I used to say that until about 18w last time, for so long it was just looking like I ate too much versus preggo until the belly really took over. This time I know I was less fit going into the pregnancy, I had a surgery in May on my foot, then the IUD surgeries so I hadn't been working out, so I had that going against me, which sucks because I worked so hard for my 10km post-partum race I did early May and got myself right down to my pre-preg size/weight. So I think between less fit and #2 I am screwed with wanting to hide it as long as I do, haha!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Beebug: @whodat: You two are brave with your skinny outfits! Every afternoon I'm so bloated that my pants barely close. If I were wearing something slim I'd probably have to go home after lunch! Right now I'm rotating between dresses, a couple pairs of pants that were on the big side before I got preg and a pair of maternity pants.
@Mae: I hope everything is ok with sweetkeight too! Hopefully she's just busy and hasn't been able to get online lately!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: I hope I don't start showing earlier this time. DH won't let me get to my maternity clothes while our house is for sale. What's even worse is that we never swapped out our summer clothes for fall so I barely have anything to wear as it is.
@Beebug: Sorry if this is too personal, but have you started gaining weight yet or are you just starting to show without the weight gain? I can see the beginnings of a little belly but I'm hoping that if I don't start to gain anything for a few more weeks that it will hold off on growing too early!
I also hope everything is ok with sweetkeight!
I can't believe that I'll be 10 weeks tomorrow. Only two more weeks until my next appointment where we will hopefully hear a heartbeat!
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: yay!! I have an appointment in 2 weeks too. I'm hoping she does the doppler so I can hear the heartbeat again. It's just such nice assurance that there is actually someone in there!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@skipra: I weighed myself last weekend and was the same weight that I was at my first pre-natal appt (154lbs!) I don't think I am gaining too much yet, but I might not be seeing it as others might!!
apricot / 388 posts
I am rocking the belly band today for the first time. I wish I had one of these things before I was preggo - I sit at a desk all day and pants can get tight on the waist!
@Beebug: I weighed myself this morning too and somehow it is the same exact as 4 weeks ago. I don't see how thats possible just purely out of how much more/different I have been eating. I guess I'll have to go by the doctors scale bc I don't know if mine is working.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@mrsog: I am the one who won't keep a scale in the house, so it's either wait for the doctor's or go to my neighbours, ha! I guess with what more we're eating, but the little bambino is growing and maybe balancing things out? We can hope anyways?
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@mrsog: Have you heard of the hcg diet? People take pregnancy hormones so that they can eat and still lose weight. That's my guess why most people don't gain a ton of weight the first trimester when they often have to snack a lot to keep the nausea away.
I braved the scale this morning and it seems I've lost 5 lbs from when I found out I was pregnant. I've only been able to eat super greasy unhealthy foods lately so go figure...
apricot / 388 posts
@skipra: that is interesting - never heard of that. makes sense though since I've literally lived off of bagels and pizza for a few weeks and haven't gained a pound lol there has to be some kind of hormonal balance going on. pregnancy is a crazy thing with what it does to our bodies.
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: Same. I've lost about 5 lbs as well. I keep telling my husband this is the best diet ever. Eat whatever sounds good to me and as often as I feel like. Barely get off the couch. And somehow lose weight.

I feel like I have been showing form week 6. The only thing is I know it is not showing 'baby'- it is purely form an insane amount of bloating! I look like I am 6 months pregnant and it is all GAS!! I have never eaten so much fiber in my life! I am afraid to get on the scale.
As for clothes- I am a dress kind of girl, so I have been wearing lots of forgiving dresses. Wrap dresses etc. I did finally order some maternity wear, so looking forward to that.
@Skipra and @Mae- I have my appointment in two weeks too!!! I am counting down the days. It is going to be my 12 week appointment. I had one at 6 weeks and we heard the baby's heart beat then, and did the beginning genetic texting. I had a panic moment last night because I was reading up on the NT testing and how it tests for Downs syndrome, and I was a nervous wreck. Even though it said at my age (35) there is a 1 in 250% chance, I was just so focused on the 1, not the 249!
Argghhh...... everyone talks about the physical ailings of pregnancy, but no one says anything about the mental craziness. I will take nausea over anxiety any day!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Coopersmama: Aw, the worry is SO hard! I'm the weird sort of person who doesn't seem to worry that much until I'm about to find something out. Like I haven't really been that stressed about whether the baby is okay (I just assume he or she is still kicking around in there). But I know when the actual appointment comes I'll be terrified(/excited) when she pulls out the doppler to check the heartbeat. I think that is part of the reason we're opting out of genetic testing. If we were given increased odds on something (even if the odds were still TINY like 1/250) I'm sure it would set my mind into a spiral of worry. As it stands, I don't know our odds on anything except that we have no reason to believe our baby ISN'T perfectly healthy so I'm just not worried about it. I'm weird. lol
cherry / 129 posts
@mae- I wish we could trade. The long drawn worry is the tough part for me. My husband today sent me a link of 'pregnancy affirmations'. LOL! He knows I am a woo woo, new-agey, oprah loving kind of girl!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Coopersmama: hopefully it gets better after your next appointment! I think I'm just a "head in the sand" person. If no one is looking for a problem, a problem does not exist. lol

Hi, friends! I've been off the grid for a few days and am finally catching back up! Hooray for everyone with appointments, heartbeats, new due dates, and skinny days!
We finally got to tell my family last week and it was fantastic. Everyone totally freaked out and is so excited. It's also such a huge relief not to be lying to everyone all the time! We went to the lake with some college friends and told them too. It was a little weird because we're the first ones to have a baby, but they were excited.
I definitely feel super bloated. Today I wore pants that I probably won't be able to wear again unless I get one of those belly band things. No one has said anything to me about looking different or anything, but I wonder if people are thinking things? Probably no one cares that much and I'm just crazy!
I'll be back in touch now -- I hate how much I missed being away! Amazing how fast we all come to rely on each other, isn't it??
pomegranate / 3595 posts
@tarabonno: welcome back! Glad to hear that sharing your news went well!
As for me , I am trying to be patient until my appt tomorrow. We definitely plan to tell our parents this weekend, which is what we did last time. My SIL has a shower next weekend for her second baby so I am hoping to stay incognito until after that to avoid stealing the spotlight and then see from there.
As for work, I went ahead and told two close friends earlier this week sort of on accident (they are both also pregnant) but I have not told anyone else. I am considering telling after the 8 week appt so I can stop worrying about hiding the bump!
What have you/are you doing about telling work??
honeydew / 7230 posts
@tarabonno: Welcome back! Yay for telling family and friends! I feel like my bloat/pudge is super obvious, but my co-worker said it's mostly in my imagination. She doesn't think anyone else would notice. I bet it's the same for you!
@MamaCate: Good luck at your appointment tomorrow! Some people at my work already know because I'm close friends with a few ladies and they knew I was going through fertility treatments. My boss knows we were going through fertility treatments too (I told her because of all the appointments I had to go to) but she doesn't know yet that it was successful. I want to tell her soon so I can come out to a few more work people, but I'm nervous! I'll be nine weeks tomorrow, so maybe when I hit 10 weeks I'll tell my boss?
cherry / 228 posts
@Twodoghouse @mamacate That is my plan too! I will be 10 weeks on Monday, so I thought that I would tell my boss then (she's wonderful). Then, ask her to keep it quiet for a few weeks so I can tell my "work friends" and let it be public around 12 weeks, which is when we are planning a FB announcement.
My cousin called last night to tell us they are pregnant with #2... it was everything I could do NOT to tell her. She's not all that great at secrets though.
papaya / 10343 posts
@tarabonno: so glad telling ppl went well!!
I"m having internal debates about when to tell my boss now. Initially I was planning to wait until January bc I was worried he'd be upset and dock my Christmas bonus (we have a weird work situation. It is just me and him, no contract. No maternity plan. Nada).
I went in today though and he was hacking up a lung all around me. I soooo wanted to excuse myself but I couldn't think of a good way to do that without telling him the truth (i.e. I'm pregnant and therefore immunocompromised at the moment--- so I'm going to go stand ALL THE WAY over there so you don't get me sick). I'm just feeling like these sorts of issues may come up over the next few months and like it would be easier to just tell him now and roll the dice. I don't know.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@tarabonno: Welcome back! Glad to see you back again!
@MamaCate: Hope your appt is great today!
@Mae: Hmm on timing, I guess one of those silly things to say in weighing the pro's and cons of telling now/soon versus waiting?
My one boss is off work now for a few weeks and I have a feeling she will ask me when she gets back, like might see the difference in me after not seeing me for a few weeks? My other boss would ask at any moment too, we are all pretty close though and I know they would be thrilled and keep it to themselves for a while as they did last time!
DH said to me last night that our babes is a boy. He was daydreaming on his way to work he said (lol) and is convinced it's a boy. I am acting like it's a girl, so this should be fun, lol.
Anyone else an insomniac lately? I am finding I am up for the day anytime after 4am or so, I am sort of over it! Sometimes DD is waking early too (but I leave her in bed, she is just happily babbling to herself, lol) so I just lay listening to her and have no chance in heck falling back to sleep.
I had minor spotting yesterday, just in the am. I don't even want to say spotting, it was (tmi) more like a smear and not bright. But of course, any "colour" when wiping is a worry, I hope it's nothing. Still not rocking any symptoms worth talking about, this realistically is a dream 1st tri if everything ends up okay. DH wanted McD's last night, this whole monopoly at McDonald's thing is bad, we need to get a game board!
Mom's of one (or more) already, especially us 2 under 2 crazies, have you thought about 2nd crib yet? DD will be no where near (I don't think?) losing her crib by the time #2 is here, I don't know if we'll just buy the same crib 'cause it works and we like it, or if I will look at different colour/style options! I am not doing two change tables I decided already, I don't think there's a need, we can make one work for both.
cherry / 228 posts
@Mae It seems risky to jeopardize your Christmas bonus though, especially if that's money you guys count on (I am picturing you like Christmas Vacation ). If you can hold off, maybe you should?
I for one, would move away from someone hacking even if I wasn't pregnant. Yuck!!!
pomegranate / 3595 posts
@twodoghouse: @Beebug: thanks for good wishes for today! Bi am trying to think positive but do feel a little nervous. DH will be able to come so that should be nice.
As far as telling work, maybe 10 weeks is a good goal. My direct boss is out until midway through next week and then I would only have to wait another week or so. 10 sounds more official than 8 anyway...
As far as beds, we have DD on a floor bed now and have since she was a few months. We are hoping to move her into the guest room, probably to sleep on the double bed without the frame, and have the new baby take over the floor bed and nursery. Vi haven't figured out the timing yet but I guess we have done time to think about it!
I have a busy day at work for better or worse but will update you all as soon as I can after my appt!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: we are very in sync this morning...I had the exact same spotting issue as you last night. Just a tiny bit when I wiped. freaked me out, but I didn't see anythign else this morning so I'm hoping it's nothing. I have a doctor's appointment anyways tomorrow, so I will mention it.
AND i was also going to ask the same thing about cribs! hahaha. I'm thinking that we might get a crib that changes into a double bed, since she currently sleeps sooo well in her crib, I hate to take her out of it too early. But the crib we have is an ikea crib and only turns into a toddler bed, so it seems like a bit of a waste to buy a second one like that. But at the same time the room is pretty small so I was hoping to only have a single bed in there, not a double, and I don't think that there are any cribs that turn into single beds, only toddler beds
AND I've been waking up before DD for the last couple of mornings before DD for no reason, even though she is still fast alseep!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: that's great that you're still feeling good! i'm sure the "color" was nothing. But it's never fun still!
@tarabonno: I know! It's just so hard to know if it actually is jeopardizing it or not. My boss is just... strange. On one hand I'm confident he'll be very excited for me. He always talks about how kids are the best thing ever and the only thing that matters is family and his boys (he has 3 grown sons). On the other hand he's running a business where I do 90% of the actual work and he is sort of around to just supervise. So I know he's not going to be thrilled with my being gone for a bit. (But on the OTHER hand.. bc ya know, 3 hands lol.... because I do most of the actual work he NEEDS me. So maybe he'll realize he really ought to keep my happy... hmmm).
