@mrsog: @whodat: agree! I complain more here because I don't want my husband and friends to get sick of me lol. Speaking of, I hate my sinuses. They started draining last night and I woke up with a horrible sore throat. All day it has just gotten worse. Sinus pressure, headache, coughing, and nonstop drainage/sore throat. I really don't want to take Sudafed even though its "allowed"... so basically right now I'm just cranky lol.

Also, has anyone started thinking about how they'll announce on FB? Pretty much everyone in our life knows now so it's not some big shocking thing, but I still think it'd be fun to put an announcement pic on our page. My two ideas right now are:

    a) dressing my dog in a suit (leftover from our wedding) and sunglasses and putting a sign around his neck that says "Baby M Guard Dog - Duty starts May 2014" or

    b) Just posting a pic of two big pumpkins with a little pumpkin. Or maybe a little pumpkin IN a big pumpkin

Either way I think we'll announce on Halloween (@ 13.5 weeks)

ETA- i totally stole the dog idea from someone else on the board btw-- can't remember who now though

    Happy Tuesday May Mamas!

Special happy tuesday to all those with appointments today (including myself). Can't wait to see the kiddo who has been being so naughty making mommy sick! lol

Actually I've been feeling pretty good for the last 2-3 days and I am praying that continues. It seems the infection really did intensify my nausea because now that i'm finished with the meds I feel significantly better Ready to start ENJOYING this pregnancy!

I hope all of you who had not-so-great weekends are having a better week!

@Mae: I think the little pumpkin in a big pumpkin idea is so cute, and original! I always see pictures of three pumpkins, but not one inside the other.

@Glitter. FINALLY!!! The day is here. I have my appointment at 1:15 p..m. and the day is dragging along ooooohhhhh sooooo slllllooooooowwwwlllllyyyyy! You know this pregnancy has taken over my life. Last night, my business got broken into. They stole a computer and damaged the front glass door. Crappy, but could have been lots worse if the alarm did not go off and scare the hooligans. In typical mode, I would have been fuming and causing a s*itstorm- but pregnancy is just making me go "oh well! crappy, but it will all work out, plus there are bigger things happening today like my doc appointment"

Since I ran to my office when I got the call this a.m. I did not have breakfast. By the time I was done with the police (who were pretty useless anyways)- I was STARVING!!!! So I did what any normal pregnant woman would do. I went to IHOP and ordered the most gigantic breakie you have ever seen. IHOP never tasted so good.

@Mae- as a dog mama, I love the dog idea I was debating how we will announce it, and I was thinking of doing four sombrero hats. One with a mustache below it (for my DH), one with lipstick (for me), one with a bone (for Cooper) and one with a question mark. and then at the bottom it will say "Cinco De Baby. May 5th 2014"

@Glitter: @Coopersmama: Happy appointment day ladies! Let us know how everything goes!

@Mae: We already prepared our announcement, since I shared it with my mom's family's (private) facebook group this week. We are big fans of my husband's alma mater and regularly go tailgating for football games (even though they are awful). So our announcement said that two more Illinois fans are joining the family next spring, plus the picture below. We'll probably put it up on facebook for everyone to see around Halloween.

@twodoghouse: Cute! I think we're going to announce on Halloween too. Or maybe Sunday because that's my birthday and also the day I hit 13 weeks.

btw SO FREAKING EXCITED to hit 13 weeks and officially be 2nd tri this coming weekend!

soo I had the NT scan toady. I was super nervous going into it of course thinking the worse DH and I talked the whole way there about worst case scenario stuff but.... nothing to worry about! everything on the scan looked normal, they did the finger prick for blood and I will get those results from my OB in about 5 days. WHAT A RELIEF! saw my little babe with its arms up over its head and legs kicking around. then we went for delicious bagels and cream cheese and overall a pretty solid morning.

Good luck to the other mamas with appts today!!

@Mae: I had the t-shirt on my bulldog that said "I'm going to be a big brother" I think I posted it here in my opening post so I love the dog idea!

@mrsog: glad your appointment went well! and mmmm...bagels...

@Mae: I don't have a facebook account...crazy I know...so I haven't had to worry about how to announce it! But I think all of your ideas sound super cute. I kind of like the two big pumpkins with the little pumpkin! I like the pumpkin inside another pumpkin too, but I would just be worried it would look like the big pumpking ate the small pumpkin Maybe I'm just crazy hahaha

@Glitter: glad you are feeling better!!!

@Coopersmama: hope the appointment went well

@twodoghouse: so cute! and what a gorgeous dog!

I was a rebel today at lunch and had a cold cut turkey sandwhich. I had to have it. I've been battling a terrible cold on top of the nausea, so I decided that I was going to cave and have one. Now I want another one.

@cookie_dough: I had cold pizza Sunday morning. I had leftovers from dinner Saturday night in the minifridge and was in a hotel so no microwave. (It had pepperoni on it so it should've been heated). I ate it anyways. Sometimes you just... do.

Also I don't know if I'm impressed or confused about your lack of facebook..... heh

I have facebook but I use it more to see what other people are doing than to post anything about myself. I won't be making a facebook announcement - but my dog has his own instagram and I might let him make an announcement (yes we are those crazy dog people)

Just got my specialist ultrasound. Baby looks great, measuring at 11w1d, which would push my due date up again to May 12. Crazy growing baby! And my placenta is only slightly covering my cervix, so it's not complete previa. The specialist was hopeful that it will eventually move.

Also: scheduled the anatomy scan for December 17! So psyched to do it before Christmas.

@whodat: @mrsog: how exciting that you will have your scans just in time christmas! Mine might just sneak in before as well, but I'm not sure yet...although we will be team green anyways so no big announcement for us!

@Mae: I know, I can't believe I've gone this long without signing up! I think I'm one of the very few people out there who hasn't taken the facebook plunge!

@Mae: I think it really hit me today: I am not going to have a miscarriage! I walked into work so ready to tell everyone, but since I was coming in late due to the appointment, everyone was already at lunch or running errands. Oh well.

@whodat: I've felt pretty secure since our 8 week scan but getting close to the magical 2nd tri is making me a little superstitious. I've actually been contemplating telling my boss this week but then I feel like if I do that I'll jinx it and I should wait until after my 12 week appointment this Thurs... I'm crazy

Haven't had a chance to catch up in a few days. Sorry if I miss someone's update!
@Mae: I don't think I'm going to announce on FB but I think the pumpkin idea is really cute!
@whodat: Wow so glad that it looks like your placenta previa might move. I've heard of a few people that had that and it did go away and they had healthy normal pregnancies. @twodoghouse: That is a fun announcement!
@mrsog: Yay for a good NT scan!!! Isn't it such a huge relief? I have mine next Monday. I think after that maybe I'll really believe I'm pregnant.
@Coopersmama: Wow so scary about the break-in. Glad no one was hurt!
I had a check up with the midwife yesterday. We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! I think some of you mentioned not feeling pregnant and I'm in that group. I'm not feeling 100% normal but just not pregnant so it was a huge relief to know that there is a baby in there still!

Hey Ladies- I am back from my appointment!!!! We did the finger prick test, and then I still have to go back for the actual NT scan with the sonogram person next week.

The finger prick test is a thing of wonder. I can't believe they can get so much information off of five dots of blood!

The doctor did use the doppler to check the heartbeat, and the baby was in there jamming to some tunes. So we heard the heart beating again. What a joy

    Quick update ladies!

Baby is doing well and measuring two days ahead! We saw baby dancing, moving those arms and legs about in waves and head bobbing. Soooo awesome! Measuring 2 days ahead now and beating at 169bpm.

We did the NT scan and everything looks good! Baby has a nose! No risk of abnormalities and down syndrome. We are soooo grateful to God.

    For your viewing pleasure

@Glitter: aw! I love seeing everyone's 12 week u/s pics! I'm living vicariously through you all and its so crazy to think our blob looks like a baby now haha. Also it kind of creeps me out how much they move at this stage and you can't feel it at all. i feel like i should be aware if something the size of a peach is break-dancing in my abdomen.

I put the little guy on the waiting list for daycare this morning.... It feels real now. All the daycare ladies were cheering and jumping around. They told me my son's classmate's mom is also due in may, so the infant class is already filling up for August 2014.

  32. Coopersmama

@whodat- I put my name on the daycare list 5 weeks ago. They said- congratulations- you just got the last spot for September 2014. I was like WTH!!! Who are these people? Did they get on the list when they conceived. Turns out it is really competitive where I live.

@Glitter. That is so exciting!!! You can see the features. It is sooooo wild. Thank you for sharing that with us. Very cool.

I have told a few more people, including some who are not immediate friends. I will not make the official FB announcement until a little while after the NT scan.

Last night I went to a networking happy hour with a professional women networking group I belong to. They had oysters and prosseco (my absolute favorite thing)- and I could not have any of it. Someone then said- Are you pregnant, and I said yes. It then switched from a women's networking event to " ohmygoodness you are going to love being a mom, and lots of gushing, and this is soo exciting." No more business talk, just baby talk

This is a silly question- why are there fruit names under our names/posts like Apricot, olive, persimmon etc?

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: they are bee levels based on how much you post. the more posts you have, the bigger your fruit. I was confused at first too! since they are using fruit I assumed it was the size of your baby based on your due date, but then I realized that totally didn't work for most people haha.

@whodat: @Coopersmama: I have a meeting with a daycare tomorrow and I think we'll sign up then! When I called 3 weeks ago they had 3 spots left for July 2014 so I'm hoping they're not already full up tomorrow! I just wanted my husband to be able to go with me and that was the best day to go since he is already taking off work for my appointment. Although honestly if they're full for July and can't take the baby until August I won't be *that* upset. I'll just have to tell my boss sorry-- nothing I can do I don't have daycare until August! lol

@Coopersmama: Glad your appointment went well! That's so cute about the networking event turning into a baby talk evening. How fun. Here's a link to some info about the bee levels (the fruit names). Basically it corresponds to how many posts you have on the site! http://www.hellobee.com/2011/09/16/bee-levels/

Thank you ladies. You are sooo resourceful.

@mae- even though I have signed up for daycare (and it is literally one block from my house), I am not so sure I will be able to do it when the time comes. I am so torn. Maybe it is first time blues! My day care allows for 6 week olds. I would only go at 3 months. Even then it feels like it might be tough.

@twodoghouse- I love the 'mommy comradery". I guess I never really noticed it before. It is so interesting the reaction I am getting from my friends who have kids. It is like they are so excited to share this secret, incredible life.

  37. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: I assumed I'd send the baby at 8 weeks because I couldn't see my boss giving me more time than that off (I'm not covered by fmla). I still haven't talked to him though. I still fear he'll freak out a bit. But I think we'll book for july if we can and then I'll probably talk to him early next week and see what he says.

Also would it be TOTALLY lame to tell my boss via email? Lol. My husband says yes. It's just... I hardly see him (like once every week or two max) and rarely talk to him on the phone either. Mainly the only way we speak is email anyways. And I'm so worried about his reaction I just want to do the easy thing and email him. But I know I should be a grown up and tell him in person. Or if not that, at least on the phone.

  38. Coopersmama

    cherry / 129 posts

@mae- what is he going to do when you are gone? Do you have anyone else you work with? Can a temp take over? I would have the discussion with him but suggest a contingency plan of what happens while you are gone. Maybe even give him some ideas of what you can do for him to make it easier for him to keep running things while you are gone.

I am in the opposite situation where I will need my team to help take over some of my duties while I am away. I have never been gone for longer than a week so it is causing me a lot of angst, but I also know something has to get done. So the next few months handing over, and training, and documenting things is going to be extra important so that I can actually take 3 months off.

p.s. Yes, you should tell him in person.

@Glitter: wow, what an amazing picture! such a cute little baby

@Mae: good luck at your meeting tomorrow. Hopefully there is still a spot left!

I'm not quite sure what to do about daycare yet. DD is in an amazing home daycare 4 days a week (and my mom looks after her one day a week). I would love to keep her in full time while I'm on maternity leave (full year here in Canada), but I'm not sure it will be financially feasible since we will eventually have to pay for 2 kids in daycare. I feel like it would be smart to keep her at home with me and save her daycare money for when we have to send her the following year! But she really loves it there and I think that she will get way more stimulation in the daycare environment than stuck at home with me and a newborn. I would like to be able to do 2 days a week of daycare or some arrangement like that, but not sure if that will be possible, since we might lose our full time spot for the following year. Very complicated!
