@Beebug: that's so fun you have a bump! I am still sadly bump-less. I am just sort of assuming that because I carry weight in my stomach anyways the baby is just pushing into the fat and not really expanding my actual circumference yet? lol. I dunno. My doc said enjoy it while it lasts because I'll get really fat soon enough (love her).

@whodat: LOL on the dream! I vividly remember when it was time to push with #1 me asking all the nurses what percentage of women poop themselves while pushing, hahahaha. It felt like I was going to and I was so mortified at the thought of it, but I remember being SO paranoid. Here I am legs spread, ready to push after a zillion hours of labour and I am paranoid about pooping. I didn't poop, fwiw, but realllllly felt like that would happen.

@Mae: I am thankfully still daytime bumpless! Just in the evening it comes out, and I was out super late last night at a concert, got home 2am and I think that's why it seemed so big! I was pumped to put on a belt today, I know my days are limited with belts, lol.

So, I am having sort of a really excellent week baby-wise (some other things? not so much. but lets focus on the positive here haha). I got up the nerve to talk to my boss today about maternity leave and coming back. Since I don't have a contract and am not covered by FMLA I had no clue what he would do/want/etc.

I started by telling him we found a daycare and we need a start date so we can secure a spot and he asked what I was thinking and I told him that we could start daycare as early as 8 weeks... at which point he cut me off and told me that was way too young to consider putting a child in daycare! (shocked!). So long story short, he is more than happy to let me only do daycare 3 days/week and work from home w/ the baby the other 2 once daycare starts, and he's happy to have me work from home for a while full time with the baby before starting daycare, and he thinks I really need to "think what is best for my family" and let him know!! So I'm going to talk to my husband this weekend but I'm thinking of maybe proposing 10-12 weeks off, then 4-6 weeks working full time at home with the baby, then start daycare at 16 weeks with a 3 days in/2 days out schedule. Woot!

@Mae: that's awesome!!!! Glad that he is being supportive, such a relief I'm sure

@Mae: That's amazing! Would your husband be able to help out when you work from home? Hopefully you will have a good baby, but I sure had a hard time working from home when my son was born. DH also was working from home, so we traded off.

  6. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@whodat: Ummm not that much. I mean he works full time out of the house so he just won't be around all day. He also is in night school 2 nights/week although he may take the summer semester off, we'll see. He does have a good bit of time off work though so he could maybe take like 1 day/week off while I was working full time from home to give me a break. I also expect that he's going to be very willing to take the baby he gets home if I"ve been working and mom-ing all day. When I talked to him about this earlier he said his big concern was me not getting too overwhelmed with work and baby responsibilities, so I think it is something he is sensitive to. Also, my mom lives 2 hours away and will be retired at that point. So if I really needed her for a week or two she could definitely come down and help too.

@mae Woohoo!! I feel like this is going the best possible way it could have!

@beebug I am definitely rocking a small bump. How noticeable it is depends on what I'm wearing!!

  8. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@tarabonno: I am not crazy anxious to tell people yet, BUT I will be relieved when I enter my closet after telling people because I definitely have to pick clothes out carefully these days!

@Mae: Awesome, awesome with the boss, what a nice read to see what he said about coming back, and nice the ball is in your court! I agree on the work from home stuff....I mean it's probably doable, but depending on your work that could put a lot of pressure on you. I wasn't a big "nap when the baby naps" type person, and was pretty busy, but there were still many days around that time where I don't know if my head would have been there for work.

So since like 8:30 tonight I have been waiting to go to bed. I know if I went then I wouldn't sleep through night. I am SO tired. I can probably go anytime now, how pathetic is that, waiting to go to bed on a Saturday night....how life has changed

  9. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: I have no shame when it comes to bed time anymore. Prior to getting pregnant I was the kind of person who was up until 12 or 1 every night, including weeknights. When I was going through the worst of the 1st tri exhaustion I was like 9pm? Awesome I'm going to bed. We stayed out until almost 1 last night (it's my birthday and my husband wanted to take me to a special showing of The Shining at a local theater that was only playing it late-- I love classic horror) and omg it was so hard to stay awake lol.

Today is the 1st day of my 2nd trimester, woot! I think I'm announcing on fb either tonight or some time this week. Whenever I get around to taking a cute pic of my dog, basically.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Had the NT scan this morning and everything looks good! Will find out the risks after my second blood draw - so towards the middle or end of November but the fluid measurement was well within range and there is a nasal bone so I think that's a pretty good sign. We brought DS with us and he was watching the screen in awe. It was so cute.

@Mae: Congrats on going public! Love the announcement!

@mae- the announcement is soooo adorable! Cute doggy. Congratulations of the announcement

@skipra- congratulations on getting past NT scan. My doctor had me do it the other way around, so blood work last week, and then I am heading to do the actual scan this Wednesday so that they can give me results together. I can't wait for Wednesday to come. Plus, my self-imposed worry deadline is for November 1st!!!

We are almost into second trimester people!!!

So- after not having nausea all this time, this past weekend I got the weirdest symptoms that are leading me to get nauseous. Warning this is gross: I am producing a ridiculous amount of saliva. It is so crappy, it makes me want to spit all the time. If I swallow, it makes me nauseous. I checked online and it looks like there is no 'real cure'. Anyone have any pointers?

I can't wait for 2nd trimester. Rumor has it it is symptom free and all roses!

  20. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: Thanks for the list!! Love it!!!

@Coopersmama: As if 2nd tri is upon us! When do y'all count it as 2nd tri? Once I hit 14w I say I'm in 2nd tri, but really anywhere between 13 and 14! I remember it being a big discussion point in my Oct 2012 thread and everyone did it so differently. My logic is 40w divided by 3! So that's like 13w2.5d (lol) so I just round up to 14w figuring I'll go overdue again anyways! 2nd tri was heaven last time, but I had a bad 1st. It was seriously SO fun being preggo in the 2nd! I don't want to say anything on this time because the 1st has been soooo different.

  21. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: ick, that sounds unpleasant! Maybe hard candies would make it easier to swallow the saliva because it would taste better?

@Beebug: I count it as 13 weeks! My doc said the day you hit 13 weeks is 2nd tri, as does my bump book and also my "what to expect? app. I know it isn't 40/3 exactly, but wtf-ever I'll take it!! I hit 13 weeks yesterday and it was also my birthday and my hubby got my this, which I thought was so adorable!

  22. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: Ohhh! Happy Birthday!!!! (for yesterday!)

So all my claims of no symptoms, I really need to mention two. DH said to me yesterday "you are more hormonal at times, but you don't realize" I was having a drink of something and laughed so hard stuff came out my nose, lol. Then I felt like crying by the end of the time he justified it, so yah.....hormonal.....for sure!

AND I can't clean my kids dirty diapers any more! I am so not one to puke/gag at stuff like that but I can hardly get near her/get a sniff of it without running to the toilet......I reallllly hope that passes -so annoying!

  23. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: thanks! Also, I would totally take advantage of that gag reflex to put hubby on diaper duty

  24. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: I know, part of me is like dang, but another part of me is like.....put him to work! haha. He does a lot so that is a non-issue, but it is nice to get a break from it! The problem is when she goes when she did this am after he left, before she and I went to daycare. Poor kid, she is probably wondering what on earth my issue is as I gag and struggle to get through it.

TMI time: woke up today with a horrid UTI. Hate hate hate.

  30. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Mae: oh man, I was there two weeks ago I feel your pain. Are you gonna go to the doc today?

  31. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Glitter: oh yea. I'm not one of those people who gets a UTI and is like "that sucks" and goes about my day. When I get them I get them BAD and its like 0 to tears in under 3 hours. Luckily I didn't wake up until 730 and my doc opened at 8 so I went in immediately, gave a sample and got my rx, and got it filled already. Now I"m home, in sweats, on meds, and chugging water like it's going out of style.

  32. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Mae: Happy birthday! Such a cute cake Hope the UTI clears soon. I had one once several years ago and was absolutely miserable... I would never wish it upon anyone.

@Beebug: I had the same issue weeks ago. I started gagging and dry heaving while changing DS and he thought it was the funniest thing ever. Even more awesome was that he had really bad diarrhea around that time. I totally still take advantage of DH's willingness to change poopy diapers when he's home even though they don't usually bother me anymore.

    @Mae:

I'm ready to join the fun! Met some of you on the POAS board, but then I kinda fell away for a bit. I'm ready for some community!

EDD if you have one: May 14

When Did You Find Out?: We confirmed it around 16dPO

Child Number: #1 (and maybe #2? We have a twin feeling...)

    Where You Live: Brooklyn, NY

What kind of provider will you see?: A hospital-based midwife group. Never their patient before, but I know most of them well.

When's Your First Appointment?: 'Twas 10/18. Next 11/25. DH and I decided to opt out of the NT and sequential screens.

What kind of birth do you want?: This is probably crazy, but I think I'd be little disappointed if I had a short, easy labor. I'd like a good 12+hr wind-up that really requires digging deep. Other than that I just hope to be well-supported and respected by staff through the process, not to feel abused when it's all finished.

What You're Most Excited For: Finding out who this LO is and who s/he becomes! Also the sonogram - probably around Christmas.

What You're Most Scared About: Managing time/energy in pregnancy and motherhood. More urgently, I'm terrified of telling my supervisor - we have two other pregnant team members right now and she's already stressed by that. I'm planning on Friday.

Symptoms so far: Nausea since about 8dPO. Progressed to a few times daily vomiting since about 7wks with no signs of reprieve in sight. Been wearing pants unzipped since around the same time. Exhaustion has started to kick in over the last week. I have that dark line coming up my belly. And heard the little heartbeat at our first appointment! Best symptom of all, I'd say!

Any fun plans for the end of summer/fall?: Just trying to live my normal life without barfing on anybody! Though sometimes I kind of fantasize about how funny it would be to get sick all over somebody annoying on the rush hour subway.

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@anandam: congrats!!! So exciting to have a new person in the group Sorry you're still feeling icky though, I hope that it clears soon as you approach the 2nd tri! You said you have a twin feeling? Wouldn't they have heard that when they looked for the heartbeat?

  35. anandam

    kiwi / 687 posts

@Mae: Maybe, but I was only 10wks at the time so we were surprised to be able to hear anything! I've read that without ultrasounds many twins are missed until third trimester or even delivery - I think it's hard to tell, somehow?

That said, we're first time parents so we have no idea and I almost feel silly even saying it, but we both just kinda think it feels like there might be two in there? Rationally we know it's probably one. We'll find out for sure when we have our anatomy sonogram. Or maybe sooner if I'm measuring big at our next appointment and they recommend one earlier.

    Thanks for the welcome!

    @anandam: Welcome!!!!

So tired today, home from work around 10:15 and already back at my desk. No travel today thank-goodness, but I have tomorrow off, so I best be mighty productive today. DD has her 1 year shots tomorrow so I took the day off (and I thought it would be fun to take her out and about in her costume since we won't be doing anything in evening except our usual routine!) but I am notttt looking forward to those shots.

@Mae: oh no, that's terrible! UTI's are the worst. Hope that you are already feeling better.

@anandam: welcome! It will be exciting to find out if your twin feeling is right or not! I have a bit of a twin feeling too, but it's more of a twin "fear" than a twin "feeling"! I will finally find out on Monday.

@tarabonno: such a cute announcement! Love the pumpkin idea

@Beebug: good luck with the shots tomorrow, I'm sure that your DD will do great!
