@junebugmama: i remember getting one at 12 wks last time but it was only due to trouble getting the hb on the Doppler so I don't know if I want to root for that. But my friend who goes to my OB made it sound like she had more ultrasounds just in the room, so maybe things have changed at the practice? We'll find out soon enough...

@MamaCate: At my last appointment (12 weeks) my doc said she usually uses an u/s to check for heartbeat in the office but the machine was in use so she just used a doppler. I was so sad because I really wanted to see the baby, since I am not getting an NT scan! But I guess I'm grateful the heartbeat was strong enough to find easily with a doppler.

@Beebug: let's see, on what others thought, I would say the one that stands out the most was my boss's boss. She said she thought we would wait longer given "our situation". What she meant, I gather, is my husband's career path. He is a 4th year med student which means he is applying for residency to start next July. We could be moving to a whole variety of places, now potentially with a newborn, but we would be happy staying put too. We will find out where we go in march.

So on the one hand it is insane to throw a baby into the mix. On the other hand, I am due right after his graduation and right before I turn 35. He potentially has over a month off even if we move in there. Having a baby now means not having to find new doctor, hospital, insurance in the middle of a pregnancy etc. plus I don't have to pregnant in the hottest part of the summer! So we are glad with how it worked out even though it may be complicated, and it is really not her business....

    Hope you liked that novel!

@Mae: yeah it totally freaked me out last time as I went right to worst case scenarios...

@junebugmama LOVE that announcement! So cute with the pumpkins.

@sweetkeight Sorry you've had such a rough time! Fingers crossed you'll start feeling better soon!

@coopersmama You look ADORABLE!! Love that costume and that sweet bump!

@twodoghouse That is definitely a bump... so cute!! I love that everyone is out of the closet and starting to show! Your fake names literally made me laugh out loud.

@beebug --- holy cow!! That is definitely a baby now! So cute. Love the hands!

I can't believe some of us are already finding out boys and girls!! Doesn't it seem like just a minute ago that we found out we were pregnant?? Today is my first day in the second trimester, and it just seems a little odd!

Second time moms, do you think that you feel the baby sooner when you know what to pay attention to? My cousin is pregnant with her second and two weeks ahead of me and is already feeling movement, but I thought that wasn't supposed to happen for awhile (I'm 13 weeks today). I thought maybe since she knows what to notice she's noticing things I wouldn't be?

@tarabonno: yay for making it to second tri! I don't really know since I am a first time mom, but I think people just feel movement at different times. I'm 14 weeks and the last few nights I've been trying to stay really still and pay close attention to see if I can feel anything. Once or twice I thought I felt maybe a tiny flutter but honestly I'm focusing so hard it is probably in my imagination

@bushelandapeck: I appreciate your honesty about feeling a little overwhelmed at the thought of two LOs as I feel the same way even though mine is older. I did want to say, though, that my LO is 22 months now and I think it would not be too terrible to have another. She is obsessed with babies right now, and is starting to be so independent. She can wash her hands, feed herself, brush her teeth sort of, put things away etc. so hopefully it won't be too bad....

@caity713: @junebugmama: glad your ultrasounds went well yesterday, what great pictures!

I had my genetic testing ultrasound done yesterday as well, and it went very well! She confirmed that there is only one little bean in there...I'm pretty relieved! He/she was moving around a lot, and had a heart rate of 140! I'm officially "out" at work as of today.

@MamaCate: It really depends on the day. I took the whole day off work yesterday (so did DH) and we were planning on getting tons of errands done after the u/s. I made it to one store and felt so dizzy and nauseous, that we had to go home and I pretty much just lied down for the rest of the day. But right now I feel just fine! Night time is still the worst time of day for me...my dinner still comes up many nights

@twodoghouse: thanks! I am feeling a bit better. My pressure is low. High blood pressure runs in my family, but my dad's is chronically low. It turns out I have his genes-my blood pressure is always low. It's gotten worse since I've been pregnant, so I just have to be careful. But the tests came back fine, thank goodness!

@Beebug: I'm usually pretty low, and that does seem low to me. I was told anything at or below 100 as the top number is low...mine is usually 110 over something, which is still considered low. My OB sent me to a cardiologist, who told me to take it easy, drink Gatorade, and make sure I was getting enough salt. He also told me that when I feel light-headed to lay down if possible. The Gatorade has really helped!

Y'all, I think it's time for those maternity jeans. I am feeling very pregnant. At my checkup yesterday, I had gained 6 pounds since my first appointment at 8 weeks I don't even know why, because I am not eating a huge amount. Generally I start feeling sick and gassy if I eat too much. I guess I'm just one of those pregnant women who gain tons of weight.

Otherwise things are fine, heard the heartbeat although it took her forever to find. Doctor swears she felt a kick when she was looking for the heartbeat. I could have sworn I felt little flutters a few times, but it's so early for that I don't know.

Love seeing everyone's ultrasound photos. Does everyone else get offered a NT scan? My doctor didn't offer it to me. We are getting the optional quad screen, but that's just a blood test.

@HayleyJane: I have partial placenta previa and am also hoping it moves up. At my appointment yesterday my doctor said no vacuuming and no grocery shopping, which is a silver lining Also, apparently previa happens more often with boy babies and it's actually somewhat scientifically proven. It could still be a girl, but more likely a boy.

So question for 2nd time+ moms: What are your favorite pair of maternity jeans? I am thinking about getting some from asos but I am concerned about the quality.

No good news here ladies. I found out at my appointment today that there was no heartbeat...I'm starting the medicine today and hoping all goes well. Certainly not what I expected but I know it's common, so that helps some.

@MamaCate: @Mae: We opted out of NT as well, so probably no sono until 20wks or so, unless there's an indication. Most days I'm enjoying the mystery, but sometimes I just get worried and understand that the visual reassurance might have been nice!

@whodat: I'm totally gaining too much weight, as well, and not sure why based on my diet. Don't have a scale at home, but I was 8lbs up at 10wks and have definitely grown since then. Every day someone new asks if I'm pregnant - I'm only 13wks with my first baby! Shouldn't s/he still be hidden? I'm guessing it's a product of a short torso and a body that was so ready for this! Very curious to hear what maternity pants recommendations you get, though I've been trying to hold off in case my hips/thighs grow more... But the unzipped/belly band solution is getting kinda uncomfortable at this point!

@anandam: @whodat: I have been wearing my maternity jeans almost daily since I was 6 weeks along. My favorite ones are from gap. I have a hard time with pants though because I am really tall, so they are one of the places that offers long inseams. I basically buy the same style I wear non-maternity and have been happy. The panel is still a little stretched out so I am wearing my Bella band on top to keep things up. I can wear jeans to work so this is pretty much my daily style at the moment!

I also got a good pair if capris at kohls last time. I had a pair if capris from loft too but I found the panel too loose. I wore a lot if skirts and dresses so those were all the pants I had. I am a fan of thrift stores for maternity if you have a good one near you, but most of the pants don't work for me because they are too short!

@anandam: I just got a pair of maternity jeans at Motherhood Maternity. I wasn't thrilled with the selection at Kohls.

  31. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@anandam: I'm not really wearing maternity jeans yet and last time I had just one pair that I wore because I only really needed them during the summer. I think that pair was just some nothing brand that someone bought me from Ross. They are still packed up so I can't check the tag. I've started to wear a pair of Motherhood jeans with the band rather than the panel and they are comfortable but are not quite fitting yet. They tend to fall down a little so I wouldn't necessarily recommend them if you are concerned about that. Most of the jeans I have are Gap brand inherited from my sister. I didn't wear them at all last time because they were too big but I think my sister probably preferred that brand.

@bushelandapeck: so sorry to read about your news. I know how you feel. My last pregnancy, I went to my first OB appt at 10 weeks, only to find out it had stopped growing 2 weeks before that. Best of luck to you.

Update: I had my first OB appt yesterday, after having been "graduated" from my RE's office. I'm 10w5d today. Things went smoothly, and I heard the heartbeat! Funny thing the NP said while doing the pelvic exam: "Well, you certainly feel pregnant!" I asked, "what does that mean?" She says, "Soft." LOL. Still don't know what that means, but I"ll take it as a good sign.
I have opted to do the first trimester screen, so I do the blood test next week and then the NT scan the week after- I'm over 35, so higher risk.

@anandam: @whodat: Ladies, I'm popping over from April to share my experience...I gained like 12-13 pounds in the first tri (really sick, ate a lot of carbs, but the gain was pretty surprising) and grew out of my pants pretty quickly (although the weight went to my hips/butt and not to a bump). I'm 19 weeks now, though, and I've only gained like, 3-4 pounds in the 2nd tri. I would be worried, but I think it all balances out. Anyway, I feel like my body just needed the weight at first, and now I'm eating normally and somewhat more active, and it's tapered off. Do the best you can!

Is anyone else starting to show? I showed pretty early with DS but this time I feel like it's more noticeable. I started taking pics already actually. I found a cool app called cinemama that lets you take pics (up to daily if you want) and then puts them into a movie

@junebugmama: totally showing and not even 12 weeks! Which is why everyone at work knows already... I was definitely a little more poochy than the first time but I just look a lot more pregnant. One of the girls at work who is due in march with her second said that she feels like it has slowed down now. Hope that is true for us!
