@Beebug: Not shocking since you also waited until like, half way through your pregnancy to tell ppl you were even pregnant! I think you're just a more patient person than I am. I am so excited about everything and always want to do things omg-right-now.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: lol it's funny because in most of "me" I am captain instant gratification, must do and decide everything now type person! I am sooo impatient in a lot of ways, so it is funny to see the more patient part of me sneak through at times!!
Told my dog friends last night at class, they were all so pumped!! I did it by asking a rule question and it made one of them assume I was due in August (asking if our trainer could run our dog to qualify for National's, then if I could run him at National's) and she was blown away we were due in May, that was pretty funny.

@Smar11: Yay for the anatomy scan! Hope it goes well!
@Beebug: I need another ultrasound at 28 weeks because of the low lying placenta so we'll see if we can get a third opinion then. I'm having such a hard time keeping this secret. It would've been better if I had no idea! I can't believe you were able to keep the pregnancy a secret for as long as you did!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: yay! so are you all 100% out now?
@skipra: gah that sucks to wait so long! Interesting how different places do it differently too. My 2nd ultrasound for the placenta issue is scheduled for 24 weeks. (although I wonder if its still low if I'll then have to have a 3rd? I was a little surprised it was still so far from my due date).
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: I was told that they want to wait long enough to give my uterus enough time to grow and for it to shift up but before it becomes too difficult to measure and that 28 weeks is the perfect time. We also have the cyst on the brain which usually goes away by 32 weeks so I wonder if that is part of the reason they are waiting too?
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: ah, could be! I didn't really ask any questions about timing. I had my anatomy scan at 18+1 and the doc just said "okay set the next one for 6 weeks from now" so I did.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I am pretty much 100% out now! There are definitely people that don't know still, but I am not hiding, denying, etc, lol. I still reallllly need to tell my one gf who mc'd two weeks ago. I have been texting with her lots, just sort of hard to bring up.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
Oh! AND I have a friend who has been away for 2 years, hasn't even met #1 yet and she is showing up at my place tomorrow and I am telling her, that should be fun, lol.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Beebug: That will be a fun announcement! We also have people that still don't know but we're not hiding it or anything. I don't think I could've hidden it as long as you if I were working. How were you able to hide it? My mom likes to tell me on a daily basis how much bigger my belly is this time around. There is no way people would not have noticed.
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: I feel like I could still easily pass for not pregnant as long as I wasn't wearing something super tight. I never would have thought I'd make it to 20 weeks like this!

Good morning ladies. I am happy to announce May is getting another... BOY!!! I had the feeling - everyone said girl bc I was so sick but I just knew I was having a son. DH and I are overjoyed!
2 things from the appt tho- since the 12 week NT scan the Down syndrome likeliness increases 20x so we are at a 1 in 25,000. Which is nothing. I'm not worried I just don't like that it changed. also, the umbilical cord is entering my placenta sideways. So I have to go back in 4 weeks for another scan to make sure baby is growing properly. That's not something I have ever heard of so I have to do a little research but the doctor said that it will most likely correct itself.
So, despite that I am feeling really good and staying positive that I will be having a healthy baby boy in May. I have my OB checkup at noon so ill see what she says too.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@skipra: I expected to be way bigger! Work is why we told when we did as it just wasn't hideable anymore day-to-day, or certainly not fun to hide anyways, lol. I just dressed carefully, and tried to hide behind my desk lots!!

@mrsog: awwww yay! Congrats on your little boy!!!!! I'm sure the placenta thing will turn out to be nothing. (also whats up with May placentas man… our group just can't get it right early heh)
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@mrsog: Noooo way! All these boys! Good news otherwise and hopefully the cord/placenta corrects itself in the next few weeks!
I was thinking about this May mostly boys business, and I knew three boys born two May's ago....maybe May is just a boy-dominated month for whatever reason? Weird!!!

@mae- i can't believe you can pass for not pregnant. My bump is gigantic now, there would be no hiding. But I still feel like it doubles up on some days, and then disappears on others, and then I just look fat, not preggo.
@beebug- I know how tough it is telling a friend who has had problems conceiving or had a miscarriage. One of my girlfriends I was terrified of telling. She is doing IVF and miscarried, and is doing it solo. I was actually going to be her Bradley class partner once she got preggos. I called her to tell her, per other friends advice who said it might be good to give her time to process, but she was so ridiculously excited for me. I felt relieved, and cried for like 15 mins!
@skipra- Ohmy....... That is a long, long wait. I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks, because I could not wait until 22. Are you prepping all the other stuff, nursery, classes etc. I did not want to 'officially' get started until after anatomy scan. Wish you the best with the opinion (and with waiting).
papaya / 10343 posts
@Coopersmama: I'm sure it is only because I'm a size 18 generally and carry weight in my stomach, so on a normal pre-preg day I feel like I sort of had a 4 month bump haha. My bump has changed shape now (more round vs. just flab and sticks out farther vs. flatter against my abdomen) but I have really only gained 1 inch in my waist. I think I sort of look pregnant bc at this point I just wear fitted clothes and rest my hand on my stomach so ppl will assume "pregnant not just fat." But if I wore my more normal loose clothes I think most ppl who know me would think "hmm did she gain a bit more weight?" Meh. Its weird though bc my stomach is starting to get really hard vs. squishy. I dunno where all the chub is going since it seems it is being replaced by baby, but man I hope it goes away and stays away for good once I have this kid
cherry / 129 posts
@mae- wow. I wish I measured my waist. I have only put on two pounds since pre preggos, but might be because I am a size 12 and weigh 173. Doc did not seem worried. But my belly is big, maybe the fat redistributed from my arse to my belly. Lol!
@mrsog- congratulations. Yay for May boys!
So what is the total tally now?

Hey ladies!
Been MIA a bit - had a week of training last week which was so hectic plus our internet is down at home and we are waiting til Wed for the technician to arrive and rectify the issue.
I think I finally caught up with what's been going on. Lots of anatomy scans today and in the near future! Yay!! Ours is on Thursday and I CANNOT wait. This baby is so very active. Last night we went to listen to a live orchestra and I got such a strong kick that I buckled forward and paused. It was awesome Can't wait to see the little man again soon.
I hope all the placenta issues rectify themselves and that we get more and more good news from the upcoming scans!

So I misunderstood the dr at the hospital and my OB said my DS risk is 1 in 2,500. That changed things a little. I did another blood test today and she gave me the name of a genetic counselor. I still feel confident in those numbers but more tests never hurt. Anyone else have increased odds after their NT scan?
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@mrsog: Yay for another boy! I hope the placenta issue resolves by your next appointment. That is scary to have an increased risk but it is still ridiculously low - .04%? I think because our little guy has the cyst even though the risk was really low based on the screening it may now be slightly increased.
@Beebug: I'm jealous that you're not that big with your second pregnancy. Between being my second and the holiday season I'm feeling enormous.
@Mae: Wow only one inch! I could've hidden my first pregnancy til around 22 - 25 weeks. Not so much this time. So jealous!
@Coopersmama: It's funny because DH calls the baby "he" and "little brother" so it's just that he's making a big deal about telling people. I feel very comfortable planning for a boy but regardless there's no way we're going to get to the nursery before the next scan anyway since we don't even have a house right now!
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: We didn't do the NT scans for sort of that exact reason. Generally increased odds make you worry and almost always everything is fine anyways! I didn't want to make this pregnancy any more stressful than necessary, so we're just moving forward assuming everything is fine. I'm sure everything with your LO is fine too! 1 in 2,500 is still soooo small. It's less than 1/2 of 1/10th of 1%.
@skipra: Well its my first so who knows next time… I might be a blimp by 8 weeks
apricot / 388 posts
@skipra: I thought that still sounded low too but I guess bc it changed from the last appt they want to monitor it.
cherry / 129 posts
@mrsog. My doc told me the threshold is 1 in 3000, and any number less they refer you for more testing. Having said that, he also said that the 1 in 3000 is an 'obnoxiously low percentage'- (LOL- his words not mine), and that they have to pander to their legal teams- so that is why they use that number. Unfortunately, if you are anything like me, I would be so fixated on the 1 as opposed to the 2499, so I would do the additional testing. At the very least for peace of mind or to prepare for whatever.
@Mae- I love that you broke it down with the math. Very good way of looking at it.
@Skipra- what is the cyst? Sorry, did I miss it? Is that why there is the additional testing?
@glitter- your baby does not need Baby mozart. They are into the real thing My baby was kicking a lot while a jazz band was playing at my holiday party.

Just got back from my anatomy scan...doctor said everything looked great at this point..yeah!! We even got a 3D pic of our little dude :). Have to go back in about 6 weeks to check on a fibroid I have to see if it's growing, but I'm not too concerned about it. It didn't affect my first pregnancy at all.
@mrsog: congrats on another boy!

@Smar11: wow! Look at that face! So awesome to see such clear features!

Hi everyone! We had our anatomy scan today...everything looked great but unfortunately, the little nugget has decided to be stubborn. They couldn't even get close to guessing the sex! We go back in two weeks to check again and get some better spine shots since the little one was on his/her back. I didn't think I really cared that much about finding out but now I'm super bummed!!! I'm just reminding myself to be thankful that everything else went great and the baby is healthy.
papaya / 10343 posts
@caity713: aw, sorry you couldn't tell the sex!! Silly shy babies.
So all…. group question. Would it be TOTALLY insane of me to apply for a new job now? At 20 weeks pregnant? I mean realistically with the holidays and interviews and notice and all-- even IF I got the job I probably wouldn't start until my 3rd trimester. Also it is for a nonprofit so I'd be shocked if there is any paid maternity leave (I am getting 10 weeks paid at my current job then 6 weeks work from home with baby). I'm just…. so terribly unhappy at my current job. I do a good job of compartmentalizing and not letting it ruin every day. But basically 100% of my feelings in regards to work are of the extremely negative sort. And this job would be so awesome if I got it I think. I mean…. can't hurt to apply at least right?
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mae: I've been applying for new jobs too, but most for a work-from-home position. I attended an interview about 3 weeks ago and I'm pretty sure my bump showed but no questions were asked. I think it all depends on the nature of the job and culture of the company you're applying to. I have paused the applications because I felt a little odd going to the interview with a bump, probably because it is so frowned upon at my current job, but if the company you're applying to is "family friendly" and flexible I wouldn't have any reservations. It never hurts to see what options you have, and even just the prospect of something new may help you through the difficult days at your current job.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: glad I'm not the only one! I'm sort of moving in the opposite direction though. My current job is SUPER family friendly. I work from home almost entirely, have a great maternity leave, and my boss has approved me only putting LO in daycare 3 days/week and working from home with her the other 2. So in that respect it is perfect. Its just that I hate what I do so much and its getting me nowhere in my career. The new job is working as a staff attorney at the local university. I think it would be a very traditional 9-5 type job that would mean less maternity leave and full time daycare. And probably no more money than I make now. But I might actually not hate working….. such weird timing for this position to come up.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: lol not at all sure! But it just seems worth exploring. I just feel like I've been kept imprisoned by the perk of flexibility for so long and nothing is going to get better if I don't start trying to make it better. (also sort of an eye opener that I feel like my boss is actually bad for my health. My last OB appt I was talking to him on the way in and was so frustrated, as per usual. And generally low bp was high! Then the very next appt when i hadn't spoken to him in 3 days it was back to being low. Clearly I don't handle the stress that well hah)
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mae: I understand. And if you're feeling that stressed and unhappy it's totally worth it IMO to see what's out there, while you have the chance. Do you know when the university would want the position to be filled? In any case (as a direct answer to your question) I would still apply because sometimes it takes soooo long for the whole application and hiring process to be completed. Who knows, you might have already had your kiddo when they're ready to take you on.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: No idea. The job has been posted for over a month now. I've been waffling on applying until I was up at 10pm last night emailing with my boss and yelling at my computer (well, at him, the things I wish I could say via email but can't lol). It was sort of the last straw.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Glitter: You in the am, me in the pm!!! Two more days!!!
@caity713: Glad everything looked good, but sorry you didn't get the peek you wanted!! Mind's of their own I guess!!
@Mae: I am not too risky in the work world so I wouldn't do it, but your mental health and sanity is #1, so go with your gut would probably be the best I have to offer! I have been in the same office since I started my career and can't picture me ever leaving, I am not a mover when it comes to my job!!
DH felt the baby last night! 4 solid kicks a few seconds apart, right in the centre of my belly, below my belly button. I wanted to cry, one of my favourite moments by far!!!
