@skipra: No accent colours yet! I am either going to let one happen as I go, or wait for baby to arrive and then let gender dictate what we finish it with!
I just had McDonald's for lunch. So grossly full now. But it was so good.

Ok, is there anyone out there super worried about not gaining enough weight? I'm really struggling to gain weight and maintain whatever weight im at.
Ok, yes I had serious morning sickness through the 1st tri and halfway through the 2nd and I still have the occasional bouts of nausea, but I've only gained 10lbs since the beginning of this pregnancy. My dr isn't really concerned about it since the babies are growing well. But I really can't help but worry!

@Apex: I am actually not gaining enough weight either. at my 24 week appt. I was only up 4 lbs. My doctor said that with the added weight of the baby and fluid its actually like my body lost 6 lbs. She said I need to eat 300-500 more calories a day. I really think I have been eating more than normal but I guess not. And I'm certainly not trying not to gain. I am really petite to begin with and everyone keeps telling me how tiny I look and its making me feel like I'm not doing enough to feed my baby! I also don't want to start stuffing my face with cookies and cake so I have been making protein shakes as a snack when I get home from work.
@mae: I also have a lot of trouble breaing and was actually going to call my doc about it this week. I get really short of breath and my lungs feel full - if I had to guess what asthma feels like this is it. struggling to take breaths and getting winded easily. I assume its from the baby growing and taking up room but it is concerning to not be able to breath! I have also had a few dizzy spells where I almost pass out. I have to sit down and drink water to get my head straight. Its scary.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Apex: I'm in the same situation. I actually haven't gained any weight yet at 25 weeks, I weighed myself this morning and I was still 2 lbs under my BFP date weight. It does sort of scare me because I feel like… pregnant people should gain weight! But I have asked my doctor about it and she said that I really shouldn't worry. My baby is growing just fine, I am eating just fine, I'm not even exercising all that much (just yoga). I'm sure things are a little different for me because I was overweight to start, but basically what seems to be happening is that while I"m gaining baby I'm losing fat. And my doc is perfectly fine with it since I am not restricting/dieting at all and my belly is growing.
@mrsog: Can't hurt to talk to your doc just to be safe, but that is basically how I feel too. Especially after a big meal or after I do any sort of exercise/physical exertion. Like I just have a really hard time getting a deep breath. My doc says normal, considering my short torso and the fact my lungs are squished, and it does make total sense. I just hope this baby moves a bit more OUT rather than continuing to go UP because I can afford a few more inches out a lot more easier than I can afford a few less inches of lung space As for the dizzy thing, maybe blood pressure related? I was warned about that by my nurse but I haven't had any issues too bad since earlier in the pregnancy. Now mostly I only get dizzy when I bend over too fast.

@Apex: I gained a ton at first and then my weight gain sort of stalled out (although I keep getting bigger and bigger, so I don't know how I'm not gaining weight). My doctor did remind me that later in the third tri both babies will be gaining a half pound per week and then I am sure to pack on quite a bit of weight. Do you get frequent ultrasounds to check the babies' growth? As long as they are growing ok, I would imagine you'll catch up on weight gain later on!
clementine / 770 posts
@twodoghouse: I get ultrasounds every 2 weeks and everyone is growing nicely. My DH says it only means I would have much less to loose when the babies come. I know he was only trying to make me stress, but all I could think of was OMG im going to have underweight babies....le sigh.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Apex: If they are growing well and the doctor isn't worried, try not to worry! I know that's pretty much impossible, but everyone's body is different and yours is doing what it needs to grow those little ones!

Ugh, since Christmas I've been gaining too much weight! I just found our scale that was packed away and am not happy. In any case, it's probably most important that the babies are growing well. And most likely you'll just gain weight in a spurt. Last time I gained the recommended 25-30 pounds and DS was still too small. Other people I've known have only gained 10-15 pounds and had 8 pound babies!

Y'all....I feel like so many posts on here are about "I'm not gaining enough weight/I'm gaining too much weight" and I just want to say as a 3rd time mom it's just not that serious in most cases. I know some problems can arise but if your doctor isn't concerned, it's probably ok. Things tend to even out in the end.
If you're gaining tons of weight (like I am oof), chances are you'll lose it. If you're not gaining weight, well, I'm super jelly

Wow, I've been gone for 2 days and have so much catching up to do!
My doctor's appointment on Tuesday was good - baby is healthy and I got to see exactly why I was being constantly assaulted! Look at that foot! Everything is on track, praise God. Another appointment with no complications is a lot to be grateful for. I am now at 169 (up 17 lbs according to my doctor's horrible scale) and trying not to worry. I asked my doc if I'm gaining too much weight and his response was "I don't care. My baby is healthy and that's all I am concerned about".... so.... I guess I should not be too concerned.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: aw! The most perfect little foot ever
I feel like my worry switch flipped last night for no good reason. I've really been pretty chill but last night/today I find myself obsessing over the baby being okay. I think it is because for about a week she was SUPER active and kicking me constantly, and she has quieted down. But still, I feel her a lot so honestly I shouldn't worry. It isn't AS much as before but i still felt her several times last night and several times today already. I think she maybe just flipped around because I'm getting kicked in my lower abdomen instead of above my belly button so she is either kicking less in this position or I can't feel it as easily. Anyways. As long as I'm feeling her consistently I know it is fine (my doc said not to start kick counts yet just to make sure i'm feeling her daily)… but I got the crazy pregnant worry thing happening.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
Well, I think I'm up about 17 pounds at 22 weeks, but I'm not really worried. I gained 40 with my first and amazingly it does disappear after birth! My body was definitely not the same after, but the pounds did come off.
Baby belly is also officially starting to be big enough to really get in the way. But I love it!
persimmon / 1281 posts
Yes the amount of detail we could see was crazy! We tried to get a face shot but little man had his legs kicking all about over his face and chest, so flexible!
My belly definitely gets in the way sometimes. I open doors and they hit against my bump, or i just don't gauge well enough to not knock it around a little bit. Baby probably thinks I'm getting back at him for the kicks! Also we decided that his name would be Giovanni. It's Italian and means "Gift from God". We both love the meaning and hubby loves everything Italian. We're not telling family yet because when we suggested Matthias we got soooo many opinions it became annoying. Matthias will be his middle name though, especially since a lot of our friends/family keep referring to him as "Matty Fatty" and it would feel so wrong to totally discard his already acquired nickname lol.

@Mae: I've had days like those as well. For a couple days recently i felt movement but not strong kicks, and it did have me worried, but then the kicks returned shortly after. I'm guessing it all had to do with positioning. Don't worry No movements and no kicks may be cause for concern, but you're still getting a sign that your little girl is doing ok!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: awwww Giovanni Mathias! And yes, rationally I know it is fine. I'm still feeling her periodically and whenever I poke her she pokes back lol. It's just that I was getting sort of used to strong kicks constantly and when she slowed down I was like hey… what're you doing?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Glitter: Ummm that foot pic is SO awesome. It is crazy that well detailed little beings are inside of us.....with little feet like your little man's perfect foot!! Exciting about the name choice too!!
re: weight gain, I gained 60lbs with DD and it came off, I think I am on track to gain that much again and trying not to worry about it. For those not gaining enough, it's hard to say don't worry, but so long as doc isn't worried, and we're eating as best we can, all we can do, right? Have to think of much worse has happened in terms of Mom's eating/not eating enough and happy, healthy babies have resulted!
This baby was nuts movement wise from 4am to 6am. That means I was awake those hours....ughhhh. I have been up since 3-3:30 or so.

@Beebug: sorry u had such a rough night! I've been having trouble sleeping as well but mainly due to back pain and just general discomfort. I bought this pillow two days ago so I'm waiting for it to arrive and hoping it gives me some ease. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KJZOWU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: @Glitter: sorry you are having issues sleeping! I feel like I sort of figured out the sleep thing a bit, for now anyways. But I'm sure that will change again soon. Baby girl isn't really kick hard enough to wake or keep me up yet. Sometimes when I get up to pee I'll feel her moving around but it just doesn't bug me enough to not be able to sleep.
Also… I don't want to be the girl who cried name but I think we really did decide on a name this time! We talked this morning and I was honestly still having a hard time deciding between Penelope and Fiona. My husband said he would be happy with either and that I got the final vote since I'm currently growing her-- but he was preferring Fiona. Since I don't feel strongly I think we're going with that! We're going to live with the decision for a couple days at least before we tell our families so we don't get locked in if I change my mind-- but I'm pretty sure she will be Fiona June Sort of loving the idea of my super irish named girl (very irish last name). I hope she has red hair!!

@Glitter: awesome photo! And what a great name!
@Mae: Penelope is very pretty and I looove Fiona! Either one sounds great. Yay for name choices!
DH and I are so indecisive. He is stuck on a girls name, which I love, but I love so many that it is hard. We also are liking Dominic for a boy at the moment.

@Mae: Beatrix with the nn Trixie! He got it from the character on call the midwife (PBS show) that I watch.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: yesssssss I that show so much! I think I've mentioned in passing before, when I first found out I was pregnant my husband teased me saying we should name a boy Buck and a girl Trixie (which was also the name of his childhood cat) and I was like lolomgno. And then I started watching that show and I actually fell in love with the name! I think its so cute, especially as a derivative of Beatrix. Plus she could also go by Bea or Tris if she preferred. Love it!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@cheesetomywhine: I love Call The Midwife! I never knew Beatrix was Trixie's full name though.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mae: I've always loved the name Penelope but I think Fiona is very cute too, and also not as common which could be a nice thing.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: Of people we've shared names with, Penelope is the run-away favorite! I do love it. Especially the nn Penny. But I do fear it is getting a little popular. And I Fiona. My only complaint about it is lack of good nickname, but I'm hopeful it will be a name like Emily or Savannah where it is rarely shortened even though it is 3 syllables.
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: thanks! That is funny about your DH. I love Bea, PR. to rhyme with Leah as well It is funny to see family/friends reactions which are generally crickets chirping but alas it doesn't bother me. One friend even said she would get teased because of Beatrix Potter....right I don't think an author of children's books is a deterrent. I still think puff is a boy though but who knows!
@Glitter: I don't think it is. DH just liked the nn from watching it and we like Beatrix as the long form.
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: my name is long (Shakespeare name) but I don't go by a nn! Well my 8yr old sister and nephew call me Phia but besides them I've never been nicknamed.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: eh people find associations with anything. I've had a few people ask me if "Princess Fiona" from shrek bugs me (no) or the Kardashian chick naming her kid Penelope (eh a little, but not enough to rule it out for that reason). And my mom said Eva reminds her of Eva Braun (aka Hitler's girlfriend) lol.
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: oh jeesh! I've heard the Shrek and Kardashian thing but I ddidn't know Hitler's girlfriend was Eva. That wouldn't bother me at all since it is so random.

@Glitter: DH is coming out of being sick + on Benadryl, I guess that translates into snoring, oh man......so over it! He is away this weekend, so I selfishly am happy to get to sleep thru the night, watch I won't be able to sleep tonight for some reason!
I went to a concert last night, helped run a dog show today, so I am sooo tired, hitting the hay now, hopefully i hear from DD around 7am or so.....no sooner, lol.

I went to Lowe's today, and priced out wainscotting materials, I got soooooo excited, I think I'm actually going to do it in nursery! I was thinking about doing a one wallpaper wall instead, but decided post-nursery days, I wasnt sure I would like it, so needed to price and plan out the wainscotting, and I think it's totally doable. I ordered window coverings (just blinds) for the baby's room today too, and for our main bathroom, nothing exciting, same as DDs room, there is currently nothing covering all but 3 windows in our house.....joys of a new build.
It has not stopped snowing this wknd, and I have totally overdone it with the shovelling, looking forward to DH being home so I don't feel I have to do it.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: yay for nursery planning! We've been snowed in all weekend and under snow emergency so I sewed our crib skirt today! I have the fabric for the curtains too, but I'm sort of dreading doing it. I much prefer the look of very tall curtains and we have 2 windows… which means a total of 96 FEET of material of to iron and finish. And its not like sewing a straight line for 96 feet is exactly interesting lol. Plus I still need to get some curtain rods so I'm putting it off for now
Also I hear you on over-doing. I've just been putzing today because my husband has been doing homework all day (cleaning, laundry, sewing, ironing, etc) but it has mostly been on my feet. Then I offered to help my husband with shoveling bc we'd gotten so much snow and mostly I wanted it done ASAP and I felt less badly asking him to stop what he was doing and do it if I offered to help. But now I feel that was a bad idea bc I feel achey Sat down and had some water and I'm taking the rest of the night off!
(don't mind the still-unpainted and messy changing table… lol)
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@Mae: very pretty! I wish I was crafty! The nursery looks nice and airy, too. Our nursery is a room off the master that was probably an office. The downfall is that it is on he small side and has no windows or closet. It always feels like a mess because the stuff that would normally go in a closet is in a corner. But it literally is 5ft from my bed. I hope to one day make it a toy room.
I started looking through DS' baby clothes today. I can't believe he was ever that small! I have a lot of basics but the boys will be born at the start of different seasons so lots of the little stuff is winter. If little Leo grows the same rate as his brother, I may not have too much clothes that overlap besides jammies. I guess we'll see!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: skirt looks awesome, good work on that! The curtains will be worth it!
@Mamasig: I pulled out anything gender neutral of DDs, and going thru it all, it is crazy to me how small she was! I remember certain outfits (let's be real, sleepers and onesies!) more than others, and it was nice to bring back some memories that already seem like eons ago!
papaya / 10343 posts
You guys, I hate myself. I'm having name doubt lol. I'm going to become the girl who called "named." Sigh. Why is this so hard? haha.
The thing is, I love the name we picked - Fiona June. I came up with both of them myself (I came up with all the names, my husband just picked favorites among my list) and also agreed with them being top favs. The wrench in the plan is that June is a family name for my husband. I didn't realize it when I suggested it but as soon as I did, he told me it was his great grandmother's name and he loved it and it was almost immediately a shoe-in for middle name.
And now that we're "decided" I'm just feeling badly that his family is so well represented (if unintentionally since I suggested June first and do love it!), and will also be if we have a boy next (it is tradition for boys to have middle name Thomas and we're agreed on that). Plus they have his last name.
I think at first it didn't bother me because I didn't have any names from my family I wanted to use, so it just wasn't even on the table. But it had occurred to me recently that if we went with Penelope she'd have the initials PJ which match my mom's initials which is kind of cool. Bahhhh. I know no one can tell me what to do because I just need to decide… but I can't. I do love Fiona June and it is my husband's favorite and it is more original than Penelope. But Penelope would make me feel like both sides of our family were represented, and if I decided I definitely wanted that my husband would be fine with it.
Anyways. Just venting at my own annoying indecisiveness. Apologies to anyone who made it through that whole thing!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: Keep on venting! But is there a reason you feel pressure to commit to a name now? I know everyone is different, but I so couldn't imagine committing to a name before babes is even here! Indecisiveness and over thinking might be getting you a tad, time will be the best help for you over what any family (or any of us :p) can say, whatever it is meant to be will settle with you eventually
I fell this morning, and so didn't even have the energy to save myself. So now I am sitting at my desk damp, sore, and exhausted, the weekend definitely caught up with me, to bed early tonight, I already can't wait.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: I don't think I feel pressure to commit so much as …….impatient-ness to? Like at first I was not thinking too much about the baby as a person because I know how much can go wrong early and I didn't want to jinx it. Our nickname for the baby for the entire first trimester was "the embryo" because we didn't want to get too attached. But for the last few weeks I've been feeling like she's really coming. And she's a person. And it feels almost rude to me that we haven't given her a name yet and she's still just "the baby" which feels so impersonal. I know I over think but I'm just so impatient to give her a name because it feels to me like at that point she'll be a real member of the family, whether she is here yet or not. Which is why I'm surprised/annoyed at myself that I'M the hold-up in the process because I am just so indecisive between our final two! lol I thought my husband would be the challenge in this process and he's been wonderful, it has totally been my issue.
Also-- ow! Do you need to go into the doc? Are you rh-? My doc made sure to tell me if I fell I needed to go in for rhogam ASAP if I ever fell. I hope you get a good night sleep tonight!!
We had a weird night last night. We were a bit restless and didn't go to bed until 12:30 (late for us!) and then just after 2am our burglar alarm started going off and woke us up! Turned out to just be that we'd not closed the garage door super tight and it was so crazy windy last night that it pressured our garage and blew it open somehow. But we were so amped up after the rude awakening and checking the house for a hiding burglar and the fact that neither of us were feeling well (husband had a sore stomach due to poor food choice, my abs are/were still feeling weird from shoveling and at 2am it seemed much more ominous to me and baby) that we didn't get back to sleep until almost 5. So we're functioning today on about 3-4 hrs of sleep. Guess its good practice for what is to come?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: I didn't fall hard.....the foot of "beautiful" powder snow saved me, I just didn't have the energy to not fall, lol.
I get the name thing, I think my fear of commitment let's me hang onto my "can't name the baby til it's here" mentality!
