I need some shoe suggestions. What are you guys wearing? I wore my Nike free yesterday and by mid day I was having shooting pain when I stepped with my left foot. Today, when I rolled out of bed I had a hard time walking to the bathroom and down the stairs without pain. The moms at my daughter's school said it sounds like sciatica. My doctor's appointment isn't till Monday.

@csross217: A getaway sounds fun! I would call the spa though- there are some places that are pretty restrictive on services for pregnant ladies.
We're going on a baby moon-ish trip next week to visit my parents in Florida. Not the relaxing baby moon I originally envisioned but it will be nice to hang out with my mom and let her take care of me a little. We've all had colds and we'll definitely appreciate the break. And DD's first Disney trip!

@My Only Sunshine: I'll make sure to call them! I know they offer prenatal massages but I'd like to do a mani/pedi and maybe facial too... Have fun on your babymoon! It's always nice to get away for a few days, and Disney will be fun

@ohemgee: If I'm reading my results online correctly than I passed the GD test! Will confirm at ob checkup later this month... As far as the shoe situation goes I'm at a total loss. I haven't been able to tie my free runs for weeks now so I'm restricted to uggs and frye booties. Maybe some slip on Vans or something?
The way you describe your back pain is exactly how mine feels, and I thought it would be sciatica but when I told my doc she didn't even mention that as a possibility. Let me know what your doc says?
@My Only Sunshine: Your baby moon sounds great! So fun for DD too. Will be nice to have some time with your mom and letting her take care of you.

I failed the one hour GD test. Anyone have any experience with the three hour they want to share?

HI guys!
I've been MIA. I live near DC so we are just getting back to normal after that stupid snow. Ugh, I'm originally from Boston and it is so infuriating. And a nightmare having a toddler stuck inside for days on end. //endrant.
I'm still playing catch up with all the posts, I"m feeling similarly with the sleeping frustrations and I have been having lower back pain which is annoying. And I think I gained a million pounds after being stuck inside and just eating without being able to do much exercise. Yuck. Last pregnancy I just got a little basketball, this time I feel like its all over-- not sure if it is a boy vs girl thing, or if its just that I don't have the time to work out as consistently, but booo!

@TrailRunner: Sorry. I hope the 3 hour test isn't too bad.
@HazelEyes: Welcome back! Glad to hear you're getting back to normal after the blizzard. I'm right there with you on the weight gain. The first tri just killed me. Between zero exercise and carb mania I gained so much! And now I'm just meh about the whole thing. It came on, it'll come off too. One day.

@Autumnmama79: yay! That's cool you can see your GD results online. My ob dr called me a day later to tell me I passed the GD test.
Yes, I will let you know what my doctor says.
I just slip on my nike frees. I haven't retied them haha. Van slip ons is a great idea. Thanks! I wish I could own Frye boots but its so expensive. My husband said no to them.

@TrailRunner: Sorry! I don't have any experience with the 3 hour test, but I hope it's not bad. I go in for my 1 hour test next week....
@ohemgee: I've found that I just need to wear shoes with really good arch support. I've been getting bad foot cramps, especially at night, and it's so much worse if I wear shoes without good support during the day. I wear my ll bean ballet flats to work usually, and put arch inserts into my other shoes.
cherry / 130 posts
@csross217: I will have to check out LL bean flats. What brand are your arch insert? Thanks!
I just order me too flats off amazon because it has some cushion inside. I hope it fits and works out.

@TrailRunner: No experience... That sucks though! I've heard of a lot of people who fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 though

@csross217: I also have my 1 hour next week! Not looking forward to it. I recall the drink is totally gross from last time.

A little about my pregnancy so far.... This is my second pregnancy, DH and I lost baby boy at 20 weeks in February of 2015. We are now blessed with a little girl! I failed my 1 hour glucose test about 2 weeks ago, but passed the 3 hour test with flying colors! I am measuring 3 weeks bigger than I am, so we are doing another ultrasound to look at her size this week. I'm excited to see her again! And I want them to just make sure she still is a girl! I am so, so excited to meet her (fully cooked, of course).
On a side note, DH and I are planning on doing prefold cloth diapers. Anyone else doing that or anything else a bit off the beaten path?
Thanks guys!!!

@rockinghorse: Welcome and congrats!! Sorry to hear about baby boy, what a blessing to have a little girl on the way I have one daughter and we aren't finding out for this one so we're very excited about the surprise reveal on birth-day!! Yay for another ultrasound this week, will be nice to see her looking so well developed at this point.
No cloth diapers here but I applaud the mommas who do it

I had my 1 hour GD test yesterday, and passed! The drink didn't taste as bad as I expected, but it did make my throat sore and gave me terrible heartburn.... yuck.
When my doctor called this morning to give me the results she said that my iron is really low. I'll need to start taking additional iron supplements. I've been exhausted all the time lately, so maybe increasing my iron will help...
pear / 1703 posts
@csross217: yay! And that's how mine came out too, borderline iron deficient.
TGIF!

@Autumnmama79: I told my doctor about my leg pain and she didn't seem too concerned. She said if it gets worse to let her know. I got insoles in my shoes now and its better.
pear / 1703 posts
@ohemgee: Thanks for sharing about your doc visit. I wonder if I should try insoles too? I'm down to 3 pairs of shoes that I can wear (put on without help from DH) and even then its still a struggle. I can see how being pg in the summer would be good in this case as you could just wear flip flops!

@rockinghorse: Welcome!
@csross217: Same here with the iron supplement regime. I'm taking the "slow release" on the recommendation of the nurse with vitamin C, at a different time of day than the prenatal. Also hoping it helps with the energy level and dizzy spells! Now that I'm in the third tri I'm starting to get a bit more sluggish.
Otherwise how is everyone feeling? I'm feeling officially large And the baby has been doing some crazy kick and rolls lately which is super cool.
pear / 1703 posts
@YogiRunner: I too am feeling rather large these days. I often pass by a mirror or window and am shocked when I see my reflection Getting dressed is hard but I'm at the point where I don't want to buy anything else because we are getting close! I know after I deliver I'll want to start buying new, non-mat stuff, so I'll wait until then...
I've totally been feeling those big movements and strong kicks. Some of them really take me by surprise and I've even yelped out loud at a few of them. I can only assume baby is having fun in there!
kiwi / 554 posts
@YogiRunner: @Autumnmama79: I totally agree about feeling very large! DH asked me what I missed most now that I've been pregnant for a while, and (other than wine) I miss being able to move normally! It's getting difficult to get up off our squishy couch, and I can barely reach down to tie my shoes... I even think I'm starting to waddle!
Baby girl's kicks are getting a little uncomfortable! A few times a day it feels like she's stretching out as far as she can and pushing up on my lungs and down on my bladder.... She gets the hiccups a couple times a day too which is just the coolest thing

@rockinghorse: Hi! I actually lost my first baby at 19 weeks in May 2013 before having DD1 in August 2014. I'm so sorry for your loss. Welcome and congrats on your little girl.
I'm a cloth mama too. We used cloth with our first and I'm adding to my stash now since we'll have two in diapers at the same time. I love it. Definitely research washing routines because there's nothing worse then diapers that are stinky or not fully clean. Join Fluff Love and Cloth Diaper Science on facebook if you haven't yet. Such good info there!

I'm with you all on being huge and it being hard to move. I have to do like a 5 point turn to roll over in bed now! I'm starting to remember this point in pregnancy and how creative you have to get to do normal things.

Anyone else just feeling utterly exhausted lately?
The last week or so it's taken everything I have to get up in the morning, and I fight to keep my eyes open all day at work! I know it has to do with the fact that I've been sleeping terribly, but this is seriously worse than I felt in the first tri...
Any tips on feeling more awake and alert?
pear / 1703 posts
@csross217: oh gosh yes. The only thing saving me right now is that I'm taking one day off a week - it makes a big difference in how I feel overall!
Pretty excited about how close we're getting though
pomegranate / 3858 posts
@csross217: oh my goodness - I work from home a few days a week so I can take a quick 20 min nap in the afternoon, but the days I'm in the office, I'm dead tired! No advice...I'm just trying to get up for a walk every so often and drinking more water (which helps with forcing me to get up to walk to the washroom).
kiwi / 554 posts
@Autumnmama79: I can't believe how close it is! Some days I get really anxious thinking about out quickly time is flying, and other days I just can't imagine being pregnant for 10 more weeks lol
@tinyperson: I'm thinking I need to start working from home a day or two a week! At least that way I won't need to get up as early and I could take a nap on the couch if I needed to... it's so miserable to sit at my desk all day!
clementine / 849 posts
@csross217: I would try working from home if you can swing it! This week I had to be in the office Mon-Thurs, and just fell asleep on the couch after needing a break to "rest my eyes". But the cat nap helped and I'm feeling a bit more energetic. That and drinking a ton of water, and having some 1/2 caff coffee have helped. Are you not sleeping because of general insomnia or because you're getting uncomfortable? A friend lent me her giant maternity pillow and it's really helped with sleeping. Feels like the pillow is giving me a giant supportive hug
kiwi / 554 posts
@YogiRunner: It's a combination of both! I get up to pee at night and can't fall back asleep, and when I finally do, I wake up an hour later with hip pain. It's gotten a little better now that I'm using my body pillow though. I kind of prop it under one side of my body so I can lean back on it and take some weight off my hips.

So, at my 27 week appointment my fundus measurement was at 30 weeks. My OB had me go to get a growth scan at 28 weeks, and baby is measuring about 2 weeks ahead. Now, at my 29 week appointment, my fundus is measuring at 35 weeks! I passed my 3 hour GD screen at 26 weeks, but she wants me to start checking my blood glucose during week 33.
My thoughts are the fundus numbers are inaccurate because I am short (5'2") and am carrying pretty exclusively in front. You can't really tell from behind that I am pregnant. Or at least that's what I am telling myself
Anyone else not measuring where they are supposed to?
kiwi / 554 posts
@rockinghorse: I've been measuring 1 or 2 weeks ahead at my last few appointments! My OB doesn't seem concerned yet, and I think it's because I'm like you and carrying right in front. It looks like I have a basketball under my shirt! I have a scan later this week so we'll see how everything is looking.
pear / 1703 posts
@rockinghorse: @csross217: Maybe you two will have big babies! Always a good thing when the OB doesn't seem concerned. I think you're lucky if you're all baby belly up front - when I'm pg I just get fat everywhere. lol sucks.
I've been measuring on schedule and things are still looking really good for a vbac. DH and and I have a prep session with our doula on Saturday, really looking forward to that.
Have a great week May mamas
cherry / 240 posts
@rockinghorse: My fundal measurements have been right on but baby girl measured small (14th %ile) at the 20 week ultrasound so I've already had a follow up ultrasound last week to check her growth. She's still small but growing properly. DD1 was only 6lbs 5oz born the day before her due date so apparently we just have little babies. Which I definitely won't complain about.

Hi girls! I also posted this on the April board, but man have these kicks and jabs gotten intense. Every once in a while they make me gasp out loud or shriek a little (my coworkers are like, what is wrong with this lady). And I'm pretty sure this baby is spinning like a top in there. For days I felt big rolls and kicks in the lower left, but today it's up closer to my ribs. Getting soooo curious about what she's doing in there and what her position is!
