Hi May mamas! I'm a 2012 May mama, and due June 1 this year, so just a few weeks or days behind some of you.
Please forgive the intrusion and I can remove this if it bothers you!
I wanted to share a link with you since you are all in the window to sign up (and because I often see how you all are doing since I'm on the border of having a May or June baby)... if you are interested in cord blood donation and your hospital does not do collection, you can order your collection box between weeks 28-34 of your pregnancy through BeTheMatch: https://bethematch.org/Support-the-Cause/Donate-cord-blood/Learn-if-you-can-donate-cord-blood/
I just wanted to stop in and say hi, and happy third trimester, and if you want to donate cord blood, I hope that link helps you out!

@pastemoo: Such a great reminder!
My hospital does cord blood donation collection so the process was easy with my DD 2 years ago. The only thing I wasn't expecting was that they would have to draw my blood to test for certain diseases. I have a friend from school whose son needed donated cord blood for a life-saving stem cell transplant so we will definitely do it again.

@pastemoo: Thanks for stopping by and appreciate the link! My OB just brought this up last week and gave me all the info. She also said to watch out for mailers from private companies who would have you spend thousands to take your cord blood for your own private use... she said cord donation is free, helpful to others, and if I ever need it in the future I can have access to it if it hasn't been used yet.
And a quick update from me, baby was measuring a few weeks behind based on fundal height, but I had an excellent ultrasound yesterday where s/he looks right on track. A little over 4 lbs, in the 43rd percentile, and head down. And everything else in terms of measurements and fluid is excellent. PHEW. Taking this opportunity to relax a little and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy, finally!

So I bought my first new baby thing last week. I found a second hand citimini double stroller in good condition. I wasn't planning on getting double stroller for a while, just babywear and use the single stroller, but it feels good to have it done. I know friends who have reclined it for infants and bolstered them with blankets, so I guess it will be good to have just in case.

@tinyperson: Woah! Crazy how off they can be. Sounds kinda like they're just guessing lol
@pastemoo: Hi! We are planning to donate as well. Standard practice at our hospital.
@YogiRunner: Glad you had such a great appointment and that baby is right where she/he should be - size wise and position wise. Mine has been head down for a very long time - hoping it stays that way!
@HazelEyes: Nice purchase! I've slowly started buying things too. Trying to have fun with it...

Just popping in to say HI! I totally lost track of this thread and honestly haven't been on HB as often but I just read through the last few pages and glad to see you ladies doing well. Had my 32 wk appt today and baby girl is doing well. We are getting close...anyone else nesting like crazy? I might be slowly cleaning out the Steralite aisle at Target...LOL! But also nervous about the birth and all that.

@HazelEyes: we love our city mini! It's just a single though.
@YogiRunner: Yay for good appointments!
I have basically had a head cold for 6 weeks now. And I'm averaging about 4 hours of sleep/night. And my daughter is in full on toddler/threenager mode. Blah.

@Autumnmama79: @sslm: I'm excited! My friends with twins both love their doubles, saying its a smooth ride and can fit through all doorways (didn't think of that!) I'm trying to save money for the mortgage that will be two kids in daycare and J is the one getting the new room (we're just keeping the nursery as is) so its nice to have something "new" for #2, even if its for both of them.

9 weeks to go today! Single digits baby!!! The BH have been amping up a lot lately, and she has dropped quite significantly. I'm not feeling as much movement since she dropped though
We still have her nursery to finish so we really need to get cracking. Paint the cupboard, side table and cot. We need to buy the mattress and we pick up our bugaboo next week.
Also, less than one month of work left and I am on holidays until she is due!

@Baby Boy Mom: Glad your appointment went well! I definitely feel like I'm nesting too. All of a sudden I'm noticing all the dust around my house! Even though I'm not sleeping well, I've had a little burst of energy the last few days so I'm trying to take advantage of that and finish organizing the nursery and tidying up.

I had my baby shower last weekend! Not a surprise or anything (it was at my house), but my mom and 2 best friends did such a great job planning it and decorating and just making it feel really special. It was small, mostly just family and a few close friends, but lots of fun! My only complaint is that hardly anyone bought off my registry so now we have a ton of stuff we need to buy before baby girl comes.... 7 more weeks!

@pastemoo: I tried using that link before and my hospital wasn't available through that one, but I'm pretty sure I can still donate bc my ob brought it up before. I gotta make sure to put that on my list to check up on!
@YogiRunner: yay! Glad to hear baby is doing well!m
@HazelEyes: I love making the purchases and knowing it's off my list. (Now I want to shop!)
@Baby Boy Mom: I wish I was nesting. Instead I'm more like napping. Haha.
@sslm: ugh I'm sorry it's been so rough for you. Hopefully the head cold clears up and you can get some decent sleep. The insomnia right now really is the worst.
@iheartleopardprint: only one month left of work is so crazy! This is coming up so quickly!
@csross217: aww glad you had a good shower! Nobody bought stuff off our registry either. They kept asking me what I needed and I was like well there are a couple of lists I made at stores you could refer to...
AFM, I have the dreaded high blood pressure. Boo. I've been going to weekly appointments for a few weeks now. It's not pre-e or anything and it's not too high to justify bed rest, but she did tell me no more exercise besides short walks with my dogs and to cut back on a lot of activities. She also recommended that I work from home as much as possible to avoid the getting ready and traffic, etc. it could def be worse but I miss my walks!
kiwi / 554 posts
@TrailRunner: Ugh sorry to hear about your BP! Hopefully taking it easy and working from home will help. Mine was a little high at my last appointment so they're going to keep a close eye on it but I'm hoping it was just because I'd had a stressful day at work.

I go between nesting and napping. I haven't posted in a while, and have a few things to catch you guys up on, so sorry for the long post!
On Tuesday I developed some serious sciatica issues while at work (I am an RN), to the point where I seriously thought I was going to have to have a wheelchair ride to get around. By the time I got home and took a shower I couldn't even lift my arm up on the left or twist my torso at all. Of course I was on call that night, and the dreaded pager went off at 10:30 pm. I flopped out of bed and literally just started crying hysterically. DH was completely out of his element, had to put my pants and socks on, as well as drive me in and pick me up (no way I could have driven stick, muchless walk in from where staff parks). Wednesday I did nothing but lay and stretch, and it feels much better. I'm just going to have to make sure I sit as much as I can at work now, and not push it. I really want to be able to work right up until the end so I don't eat into my leave.
On Thursday I had my OB appointment, and had a nerve-wracking experience. I have been measuring big for a bit now, so have been expecting that kind of thing, but when she listened to the babies heart rate on the doppler it was going between 170-190! She had me go right away for a non-stress test (ironic name for that, if you ask me, because I was quite stressed ) and I sat there for 20 min hooked up listening to her quick little heart. I felt like my heart was beating just as fast! The nurse was very reassuring the whole time, and it turned out that the baby was just very active, and when she stopped moving around so much her HR went back into normal range.
She has been moving around A LOT! Sometimes she kicks so hard it startles me and I almost yelp! It is reassuringly uncomfortable.
Since my due date is May 3, I creep on the April board as well. It has really encouraged me to start a list of stuff I need to get done, as well as start my list of stuff to pack in the hospital bag. Anyone else started on this?s

@YogiRunner: that's great! Enjoy the rest of the pregnancy.
@HazelEyes: I'm holding off getting a second seat for now. Thinking of just getting a kick board for my 3 year old. She hardly sits in her current stroller. I head great things about the double citi stroller
@Baby Boy Mom: that is great you have the nesting urge. I'm 33 weeks and haven't felt the urge to nest yet. Haven't even got the nursery ready. eek! But I did was some baby clothes.
@csross217: that's great you had a baby shower!
@iheartleopardprint: yay down to single numbers! People ask how far along and I can't think of what month i'm in. I just say 7 weeks left. lol
@TrailRunner: boo to the high blood pressure. Working from home is a good thing right? Hope you can kick up your feet and relax a bit.
@rockinghorse: ha i'm enjoying nap times with my toddler on my two days off. I feel like my energy is low again. Hope you sciatica gets better.

Going to be a little TMI. My ob warned me about constipation during 3rd trimester. I said ok, I'll take stool softens. I stopped for a week cause I was doing fine. WRONG! I tried to go poo yesterday and I guess pushing too hard caused me to bleed! And the poo was still stuck in me. I called my dr and they told me to go to the hospital's labor & delivery ward cause I was bleeding. I was walking funny too. I get to the hospital and the nurse felt me and said she felt the baby's head and that I was pretty swollen down there. Both nurses said, ok you are going to have the baby today! I was like omg, we are so not ready! And its only 32 weeks 6 days. I kept saying I just need to poo! They did ultra sound and saw my bladder was really full so they had to use a catheter to help me relive it. After several tests to check things out they decided to give me an enema to help move things along. It worked so fast and I felt way better but I was still swollen down there and still had a little bit of bleeding. The dr. wanted a full ultrasound to see how my cervix was doing and check on baby. Good news my cervix was still long and baby was doing just fine. I haven't had an ultrasound since my 20 week appointment so it was nice to see baby. Turns out I'm only 1 cm dilated. I finally got to go home after 8 hours in the hospital. They told me keep taking stool softens, drink 10-12 cups of water and eat a high fiber diet! Today is 33 weeks and I'm so glad baby isn't ready to come out.

@ohemgee: Oh my! How scary that they thought you were going to have to deliver today! And man, that constipation is no joke. I was started on iron, so I am being extra religious about my stool softener, and will be even more careful after hearing your story!

@ohemgee: holy crap! So glad everything turned out well and baby gets to cook longer, but that is a scary and crazy story!

@rockinghorse: I'm due May 2, and just started making a list for the hospital and of things to do before baby..... it's a long list! I need to crack down and start getting some things done though!
@ohemgee: Yikes! So scary! The constipation is no joke. I'm on extra iron and have been taking fiber and prune juice every morning and stool softeners at night... it's still pretty uncomfortable most of the time though
cherry / 130 posts
@rockinghorse: seriously! my mind was like omg omg omg! But the staff was super prepared if I was to give birth early. Yes, keep take stool softeners!
@TrailRunner: thanks. I'm glad everything turned ok too.
@csross217: I should get some prune juice too.
clementine / 849 posts
@ohemgee: omg! I can't believe they scared you like that. So glad the little one is still snug in there!
@rockinghorse: the nst is indeed really stress inducing. I was on it for awhile a few weeks ago and I get it... Every time baby's heart rate went up, so did mine! And I'm due May 5 so also lurk the April board... Went a little crazy this weekend and got nursing pj's, sleep bra, slippers for the hospital, etc.
What are you ladies who plan to bf doing for tees, tanks, bras etc?
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@csross217: Ahh the dust yes! Last weekend our "project" was cleaning out the whole kitchen. It's like things that have been bothering me for months need to be taken care of right.this.minute. Of course, then I need a random nap because I get totally winded.
@ohemgee: Glad to hear everything was ok. To be honest, so many foods have made me sick this pregnancy that every time I need to go too often I'm scared it's labor. Not good. Just as an FYI some things that are good to keep things moving other than water and lots of veggies are chia seeds, coconut oil, fresh coconut if you can get it, actually those naked smoothies you can buy bottled. I'm sure there are a few more I'm not thinking of right now, but unfortunately I've had to investigate the issue.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
@rockinghorse: I'm May 7 but first two kiddos were born between 38-39 weeks and I already look like I'm pretty much at capacity so I'm also on the possibly April bandwagon. I have a list, but it is insane because we are in a ONE bedroom and trying to hold off to the end of the school year to move. The furniture shuffle has begun, and then we are basically starting from scratch on baby gear because we sold it all after number two. Eek!
@YogiRunner: I liked the bravado nursing bras, not a fan of tanks but I think this is just personal preference. I usually wore just regular shirts and pulled them up in the summer. When it was cooler, I liked henley or button down style so I could just open buttons and unclip the bra. It's a little guess and check in the beginning.

@ohemgee: ahh, that must have been so scary to hear! I'm so glad things got moving and everything settled down.
For me, I'm a mess currently. For a couple of appointments in a row my bp was raised so my doc had me coming in weekly for NSTs and BPPs. My BP has actually been fine for a couple of weeks now, but at my Tuesday's NST I was contracting regularly (I couldn't feel it) so they sent me to L&D. They stopped everything and I went home, but I started contracting again on Wednesday, so I spent the night into Thursday while they tried to stop them again. I'm still having them but they are less frequent and I guess not productive. Now I'm on bedrest until 36 weeks, which is so difficult with a toddler. I have a prescription for procardia too but I'm trying to take it sparingly because the side effects suck.
On top of it all, I have a double ear infection and a gnarly cough and am on some strong antibiotics, so currently I am having the opposite of constipation because my gut is all messed up.
I am pretty over all of it, haha, but I'm really glad baby is staying put for now!

@sharpie: Oh jeeez. That sounds awful, so sorry you're dealing with that!!! Do you have a good support system to help out? Family/friends nearby?
grape / 84 posts
@sslm: Oh yes! My mom has made it her mission to not let DH cook so he can do everything else and my mother in law has had toddler duty whenever DH has to be out of the house.

@rockinghorse: I have sciatica pain too. A maternity belt has been really helpful. I bought a Curad one from Amazon for like $12. Totally worth it.
@ohemgee: Yikes, scary!
@YogiRunner: I like the nursing bras and tanks from Target.
@sharpie: Oh man!! How far along are you now? Hope you start feeling better so you at least don't have to deal with being sick on top of being on bedrest!
grape / 84 posts
@My Only Sunshine: I'm 34 weeks tomorrow, so only a couple more weeks of bedrest. And yeah I agree, if all the ear pain/drainage/coughing would stop I'd feel a lot better about everything. Especially since I'll have a RCS and I don't want to have a cough during recovery...
kiwi / 554 posts
@sharpie: Oh no, I'm sorry you're going through this! I hope you feel better soon.
@YogiRunner: I picked up a couple nursing tanks from h&m that are really comfy and seem like they'll work well. Not sure what I'm going to do for bras yet though... I'll probably just pick up a couple sleep type bras for now, and then get some nicer ones when I know for sure what size I'll be.

Well, I'm currently nursing my 3rd head cold of the winter I picked up some robitussin after checking with my OB, but it doesn't help at all with my stuffy nose! Does anyone have any tips on clearing nasal congestion? It's bad enough that I'm up 4 times to pee at night but now I can't breathe through my nose....
persimmon / 1129 posts
@csross217: A neti pot! Super gross but also really effective.
How's everyone doing? I had my 32 week appointment today and all is good. They're going to schedule my repeat c-section soon so it'll be nice to have that on the calendar. My doctor said my weight gain is good which is insane since I've been eating easter candy like it's its own food group.

30 weeks today and I have a non-stop mover in the mornings! Still waiting on the results of my 2hr glucose test. I'm assuming I have GD again, but trying not to stress out too much. It'll only be 8 weeks or so. I feel more zen about the whole thing this time around.
clementine / 811 posts
@YogiRunner: Last time I LIVED in nursing tanks for the entire time I bf. I think I bought out target. I would sleep in them, wear them around the house and when I went back to work, I just wore them under my shirt. I felt more "covered up" when it was just my boob that was out for nursing or pumping and my belly wasn't exposed. I do have a couple bravado bras that are super comfortable fit with the fluctuation of your chest size. I have actually been wearing through this pregnancy as I, uh, expand.

@csross217: Yeah, I second the netipot. Or I have found some success with the saline spray like I use on J. I found an extra and just made it mine.

@csross217: I put a bit of vicks under my nose right before bed and it has been working wonders!!! Other suggestions the pharmacist had were saline solution and a humidifier.

I have my 34 week appointment tomorrow and we're bringing DD so she can hear baby's heart beat. She's not super interested but I'm hoping she'll think it's cool!
I'm also curious because I've had this sneaking suspicion that the little guy may be breech. I'm hoping they are able to tell tomorrow.
cherry / 215 posts
@YogiRunner: I got a nursing tank at my shower, and just went crazy on kohls.com and got 3 nursing bras to try, as well as some button down shirts. I guess I will have to see what works best for me when it all gets down to it.
@sharpie: Oh no! Bed rest is pretty much one of my worst fears! Best of luck with all of that, but it sounds like you have a great support system.
I am 34 weeks today and it feels like a big relief to be here! I am really quite uncomfortable though, and will be talking to my OB at my 35 week appointment about doing those silly things that probably don't actually induce labor starting when I hit 36 or 37 weeks. Babe is in the 97th percentile, and I am only 5' 2", so I feel like I am ready to pop. I can't even believe how crazy big my belly is!
So far on my list of things to try is walking daily as much as I can tolerate, raspberry leaf tea, and some other things not fit for polite conversation.
Anyone have any other tips?

32 weeks and lost my mucus plug yesterday so I had a cervical check (fingertip dilated and water bag intact) but they found no signs of pre-term labor. I was ordered on bed rest for the rest of the day and it was glorious... Napped all day.
Baby is head down and deeeepp in my pelvis so I constantly feel like I was kicked in the crotch and I'm doing the sexy pregnancy waddle due to the feeling of holding a bowling ball between my legs.
Although the mucus plug regenerates itself and losing it doesn't necessarily mean labor is imminent, I'm now paranoid I'll go into labor early so we're packing the bags this weekend "just in case".
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
Just came from my appointment and my midwife suspects baby boy is breech, but she couldn't tell for sure. I'll be having an u/s to confirm sometime next week. In the meantime I'll be doing a couple of things she suggested... if he is breech they suggest acupuncture, but at 36 weeks it requires a consult with the OB as well...
Cross your fingers for me that he is actually head down and none of this matters!!
