We have still made no progress on boy names. DH still insists on the dog's name, Kenji, or now it's variant, Kenjiro, and has a million excuses why every single name I suggest will not work! I really like Micah right now and DH says it's too "ethnic"?!? WTF? Kenji(ro) isn't?!? Sigh.

@MrsTiz: I think my dad and grandpa are the only people I have ever met with their given name actually as Jack. I've found it's usually a nickname for something else when you meet someone IRL.
I think if you love it you will quickly get used to it and it sounds totally normal to me...of course I have been hearing it for 27 years so had a little more time to get used to it

@FarmWifeGina: Exaclty what I said! I guess "ethnic" names are only allowed when they are Japanese lol

@anbanan15: Ummm wut..Micah vs Kenjiro...I think Kenjiro is a little more ethnic! I had a good friend named Micha and I love that name!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsTiz: haha Kenjiro is EXTREMELY ethnic IMO! I hate it lol. I said I could compromise with either Kenji or Kenjiro as a middle but no way as a first. The ethnic background DH is claiming Micah is from isn't even correct but since someone at work is a certain ethnicity with that name he insists differently...it's Hebrew and sounds great with DS's and our last name which ends in a -wen sound and is very hard to match names with since they usually rhyme.
ETA: I like Kenji but it sounds like a dogs name to me since we have a dog with it and I didn't grow up knowing the name like DH did. I hate Kenjiro though...sounds like a mouthful!

@MrsTiz: One of my students is Jack (legally). That's our boy name--Jack! Not short for anything:)
We are thinking Jack Ryan.

@sweetooth: Awww! That is a great picture! Even though I have already had 4 ultrasounds, I have yet to get a really good picture.

@MrsTiz: I love Jack!! I had a little boy in my class named Jack once and he was so sweet. As a teacher, I have soooo many name associations! Never had a Nathan in my class. yet. Although there's one in the class beside mine. The teacher said "Bye, Nathan" yesterday when I was leaving and I assumed she was talking to her student. Nope, she was talking to my belly haha
@sweetooth: Awww, beautiful!!! Such a good picture
I'm babysitting a 5 month old baby boy tonight and its crazy to me that in a year, we'll have one just a little older!!

@sweetooth: Ahhhhhh, look at your baby! Love it!
P.S. jumping in to say I loooove the name Jack but got vetoed.
I'm already dreaming of our 20 week appt. Ha!

Picked up some GN items at Baby Gap today on clearance + extra 30% off! I love a good deal The 3 pieces on the left, the thick cardigan and 2 velour sleepers, are 0-3 mo and the stripped sleeper on the right is 3-6 mo so I think they will be perfect for the time of year! BTW the stripped sleeper was marketed for boys...I think the bright orange and button shoulders make it look more girly? For sure GN!

@anbanan15: hopping on the baby gap band wagin, huh? Yeah! I went again over the weekend with my mom and she bought baby some sweet knit hats (a frog, shark, and bunny) for $2 a piece! I think it might be my new favorite place! Great buys!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Ash: yay!! They had some other cute pieces but they weren't as GN. It was really picked out too! We stocked up on Baby Gap with DS too, but it sort of backfired because my mom insisted he wouldn't be a big baby so it was safe to buy months ahead (my nephews you could buy at least a year ahead) and a lot of the things we bought, like skinny cords, NEVER fit between his nursing monster growth and CD'd bum haha. I'm going to try and restrain myself (errr my mom) enough this time until we know babies build after a few months.

@anbanan15: I'm glad I bought my sleepers last week before they went an additional 30% off cuz you're right, they were really picked over. My next stop: carter's outlet!!
honeydew / 7909 posts
@anbanan15: That's what I'm afraid of. I'm mainly only looking for sleepers. :)) And gender neutral at that, so I hope I'll be okay!

@NeekieRose: Thanks! My tech said that the baby was asleep during the ultrasound so we were going to get some good pictures and measurements
@lilteacherbee: Thank you! And it is crazy when you think about your life a year from now, isn't it? I bet babysitting that 5 month old was like a glimpse into the future!
@Ash: Thank you! And those knit hats you mentioned sound adorable! We'll have to see pictures of them on your cute little baby at the end of the year

@anbanan15: I know! It's like my first baby picture! And great find on the gender neutral pieces. They are adorable!
@DigAPony: Thanks

You all motivated me to start getting my registry list together. I definitely want to figure out what we REALLY need, vs. what we can wait and see on. I have to admit, I got a little overwhelmed by it all and had to take several breaks from it. But forward motion is good, even if I'm just taking baby steps first

@MrsTiz: My good friend named one of her sons Jackson. He is the cutest, sweetest boy. I think you have a great name picked out!

@sweetooth: Thanks! I'm really glad to hear such positive things about other Jack/Jackson's
DH and I are going to start registering this week because it looks like my shower will end up being super early, thanks to my way too eager SIL. I'm going to use the BabyCenter basic list, not the recommendations because I have my own ideas for that

@sweetooth: So cute!!
@anbanan15: I bought a loooot of GN stuff from Gap and Old Navy. We're going to find out the sex but I wanted to shop, haha! My sister just sent a HUGE box of baby clothes but a lot of them are girls clothing.
We've offered on a house and I realllly hope we get it -- if we do we'll close in August and I can finally, finally start unpacking some of the baby stuff we've been collecting!
In other news I feel super sick today... guess I'm not totally out of the nausea woods.

@anbanan15: Too cute!!! I haven't done much clothes shopping yet; I grabbed a few onesies from Carter's awhile back, but nothing crazy yet...after seeing these though, I might have to get goin'!
@sweetooth: Yay, baby!
@MrsTiz: Looooove Jack. DH and I just started talking names this last weekend and Jack was one of our top names if it ends up being a boy!
Things are going great here, nothing too crazy. We were in D.C. over the long weekend, which was fun. I get winded from walking to the fridge, so having a whole 3 days of doing almost nothing but walking was definitely a work out! I still don't feel like I'm really "showing" yet, but I'll touch on that more over on the Bump thread (yeah, yeah, yeah, I have a few pics I'm overdue on posting, I'll do it this afternoon!!). We find out the sex at the end of this month and I CANNOT. WAIT. Man, I'm dying to know!!!

@ms.janedoe: Same here. That's all I purchased so far. I couldn't resist the velour sleepers and for the price. The terry sleepers for the fall/winter are easier to find, but I don't like the way they feel so I was thrilled to snatch up these velour ones. My mom made a few gender specific purchases because she is sure she knows what we are having...Otherwise I am patiently waiting another month until we know
@sweetooth: That is what we did...looked at the lists and decided what we thought we would use to register for then researched what we wanted within each category. We didn't really register for much, but we still ended up with things we never used. It's really hard to judge what you will need, might need, and don't need until you experience parenthood first-hand.
@MrsDragon: Awesome!! Good luck on the house!
@Ash: At least you have a game plan!! Be strong haha. My SIL was team green for their second, but went to the Carter's outlet and bought a HUGE stash of girl and boy clothing and then just returned the items they didn't need after baby was born (they had another boy).

@anbanan15: aww such cute stuff!!
Has anyone started feeling any movement yet? I know it usually starts between 16-20 weeks for first time moms or earlier if its your 2nd/3rd/etc pregnancy. I'm 15 weeks, but baby has been consistently measuring a week ahead (but they won't change my due date, ugh). This weekend I felt what I can only describe as popcorn popping. It was about 3-4 very light "pops." I wonder if it was baby...its definitely not anything I remember feeling before!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@lilteacherbee: I think I have! I was just telling DH I was getting a weird feeling this morning, it was really low and felt like a quick poke. It was weird, but I didn't want to seem crazy telling him the baby is moving because I have no idea what to expect. It wasn't popcorny to me but it was new for sure.
I'm trying to focus on it more when I lay down, but I don't know what i'm feeling for so it's pointless.

@Ash: I know exactly which hats you mean! My DH wanted the shark one so badly but it was full price at the time and I couldn't justify buying it not knowing whether it would be a girl or boy. Ill have to see if there are any left at our store!
@mrstiz: I love the name Jackson and your nursery with tree decals is looking beautiful (I saw the pic on another board).
@lilteacherbee: That must have been amazing feeling movement for the first time! I can't wait!

@Cara M. 17: Super cute, huh? I can check this weekend if you don't get a chance or if your store is sold out. :))

@Cara M. 17: thank you! I'm sortof stuck now but I guess I have plenty of time to get all the little things for it together

@MrsTiz: Yes decorate a little at a time as you find pieces you love! I can't wait to start our nursery but we are waiting until we learn the sex on 7/8!

I just bought a Baby Bjorn Babysitter on NBD for $77 I am so excited!!!! Anyone else have one of these? I know the Bees love theirs.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@Cara M. 17: Ohhh I just looked on NBD and I think I'll be going shopping soon...
Omg, so my (almost full grown) kitten just pounced on my belly and a few seconds later, I felt the baby kick!! There was no denying it that time. Such a weird feeling, but so cool!!

@lilteacherbee: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! So jealous!!!
ETA: Also, so exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So jealous of everyone feeling movement! I've been paying attention but I don't think I've felt anything yet.
